Beverly Hills Affaire in the Gardens...art show to attract thousands! May 21st - May 22nd!

 



Residents of tony Beverly Hills are gearing up for a snarl of traffic - and throngs of art-lovers this week-end - as the ever-popular "Affaire in the Gardens" is launched.

Over two-hundred artists - from a wide array of creative mediums - will unveil their original works which range from painting, to portraitures, fine-line drawing, multi-media pieces, and sculpture.

In addition, there will be eye-catching hand-crafted one-of-a-kind items such a jewellery, pottery, and what-have-you!

The lively festive event runs May 21st thru May 22nd and features a Wine Garden for those who savor a glass of bubbly while taking in the artsy-fartsy event.

Early risers may take a stroll through the picturesque park setting commencing 10:00 a.m.each morning.

Nightly the exhibition space shuts down at 6 o'clock sharp.

Art Tours

Visitors are invited to sign up for an informative stroll around the grounds with art connoisseurs who will point out and explain famous art pieces which are part of the City’s permanent sculptural collection.

Guests may request a tour of some of the best work in the eclectic Affaire in the Gardens Art Show this year with a discussion headed up by one of the Vetting Committee Judges on hand.

Wine Garden @ Affaire in the Gardens Art Show in Beverly Hills!

American Indian Arts Marketplace...@ the Gene Autry National Center!

It's been such a hectic week - covering the World Series in San Francisco and taking in a handful of film premieres screening locally - that it has been a challenge to keep up with all the cultural events underway over the next week to ten days.

However, I would definitely be remiss, if I failed to publish a quick post on one high-profile event taking place this weekend at the Gene Autry Center.
185 Native American artists from around the country representing more than 40 tribes will be on hand show and discuss tribal traditions and offer up examples of eclectic examples of their contemporary art forms

The annual event is the largest Indian marketplace in Southern California showcases featuring 185 top artists and performers in a family-friendly setting.

The 30,000-square-foot Marketplace includes performances by Native dancers, musicians, and storytellers, plus other musical acts throughout the weekend.

The slated program will also feature hands-on activities for children and artist demonstrations.

Native American food including frybread will be available to munch on and savor!

Visuals include: Full-size Lakota tipi, Pow Wow dancers, large and small scale paintings and sculptures, colorful traditional and contemporary stone and silver jewelry. Demonstrations of weaving, painting, flint knapping, soapstone carving, mask making, gourd art, and traditional jewelry-making.

Audio includes: Flute playing, drumming, traditional singing, storytelling.

If you're in the mood to take a stroll through a rose garden, or simply reflect on the creations of a handful of artists exhibiting their work in a park-like setting, then take in - "Affaire in the Garden" - in the city of Beverly Hills this sun-splashed weekend. (May 17th - May 18th)

This morning, I strode along the well-worn path along the "flats" to the spritely-decorated exhibit area - amid a gaggle of pristine-white canvas tents - fascinated by the myriad of artistic expressions on display.

While a large percentage of the offerings fell under the category of "Craft" - as opposed to the lofty designation of "Fine Art" - there were a number of original paintings and sculptures that caught my discerning eye, none-the-less.

Just maybe, it's wholly possible to snatch up an obscure piece before the "Gods" smile on an artist - and thereafter - catapult 'em into the nether-regions of the high-brow art collector!
If you're in to chatzkas, though, this is definitely the place for you.
The "affaire" in the "park" is rife with elegant blown glass, bold colorful ceramics, one-of-a-kind delightful ornaments, two-dimensional wall-reliefs rendered with artistic flair - you name it.


Also, there is a kids' alley where the young ones in tow can paint up a storm!

When it's time to relax, hop over to the wine garden where art connoisseurs mix and mingle, and wax poetic on the state of - well - many things!
