Jim Morrison...light show tribute to Doors @ Vegas Freemont Experience!

It was like a zoo on Freemont street last night as tourists poured into the historical part of downtown Vegas to participate in the summer of 70’s music madness celebration.

Live bands revved up audiences, street vendors managed to entice out-of-towners into snapping up their novel souvenirs of Sin city, and barkeeps kept the booze flowing to quench an unstoppable thirst that was triggered by a tropical heat wave this past week that caused the mercury to soar to 110 degrees Fahrenheit.

At dusk, after the sun slipped beyond the horizon a golden ball of fury, the night sky was still thick with a muggy goo that was almost stifling.

By the way, the Freemont Experience is now presenting a dazzling light show at 9 p.m. every evening which features the provocative - at times haunting - rock 'n roll music of legendary Jim Morrison and the Doors.

The madding crowds enthusiastically sang along and danced in the streets last night as they gazed skyward and gobbled up all the delicious sights and sounds the dazzling light extravaganza offered up.

Tonight, I intend to trot back and capture the segment on HD video, with the aim of posting the clip on my YouTube site.

Haight Ashbury...trippy walking tour in San Francisco! "Summer of Love" memories...

The past glory (and legend of) the Haight Ashbury lives on in the hearts and (psychadelic) minds of many!

The upper Haight district is infamous for its role in the 1960's hippie movement.

Home to legendary musicians of the era (Janis Joplin & Jim Morrison) - "heads" (who also drifted in from around the country to experience the "Summer  of Love" first hand) found the quaint neighborhood a relatively inexpensive place to flop down, light up a joint, and tune out!

Before the completion of the Cable Railroad in 1883  the Haight-Ashbury was a humble collection of isolated farms and acres of sand dunes.

With the advent of the cable car, land grading and building techniques by the turn-of-the-century - the Haight was eventually transformed  into a residentail upper middle-class homeowner's district - which resulted in the construction of novel character-driven dwellings boasting fanciful design flourishes such as gingerbread trim.

Now, tourists and locals alike, can step into the nostalgic past (with a keen eye towards redisovering a romantic page out of San Francisco's illustrious past) by virtue of a walking tour.

The delicate Victorian houses - with their elaborate monochromatic eye-catching hues - are a definite highlight you won't want to miss!

There are also a handful of lush little gardens and vistas overlooking the city to soak up - too - on a stroll  that may require a little pick-me-up to make it to the finish line.

Brunch at any one of the trendy watering holes, perhaps?

Troubadour...nightclub where Elton John, James Taylor & The Doors got their big breaks! WeHo...

The celebrated Troubadour first opened its doors way back in 1957 when West Hollywood was still a wild unincorporated town!

The legendary Doors allegedly signed their 1st record deal after a record exec caught their act LIVE! and in the raw.

Sir Elton John, Tom Waits, and James Taylor appeared on a regular basis in the halcyon days of their illustrious musical careers, too.

Today, a gig at Doug Weston's Troubadour is still a status booster, no matter how 'ya cut it.

Jim Morrison...ghost haunting Alta Cienega Motel? Caught on HD Video by Julian Ayrs!

Jim Morrison may be haunting his old digs at the Alta Cienega Motel in West Hollywood.

Yesterday, after I shot some footage of the Motel from across the street, I zoomed in for an up-close image of the name of the cozy little establishment.

After my lens settled on the end position, I was about to fade to black. Suddenly, something very eerie occurred. An orange & yellow light sprang to life and not only illuminated the face of the Motel - but also - cast a warm glow in the center of my video!

Watch the video quite closely and see for yourselves. Was it a coinicidence that the light came on when it did? Or, was Morrison's ghost playing tricks with me?

I am a well-known psychic and I used to appear each week on a TV Show about the occult - Tomorrow's Fortune - on CKVU TV in Vancouver, B.C.

Was the Doors lead singer keen on the fact he might be able to use my "sensitivity" to acknowledge to die-hard fans that his spirit is alive and that he is haunting the Alta Cienega Motel? It was quite a mystical experience to me.

Jim Morrison...historical "Doors" haunts in West Hollywood!

If you head about seventy-five feet west of La Cienega Boulevard on Santa Monica, you'll encounter a quaint little watering hole known as the Benvenuto Cafe.

Out front - a brass plaque notes that in 1970 - the location was a sound-mix studio for the "Doors".

Ironically, this is where the legendary band recorded, "LA WOMAN".

And, just around the corner a few steps North of Santa Monica Boulevard, there is a small motel by the name of the "Alta Cienega" where the lead singer for the band once rested his weary head.

The sensuous rock star - Jim Morrison - resided in Number "32" from 1968 until 1970. In fact, the room is still decorated with Jim's portrait and personal belongings!

I recall reading in a biography somewhere that Jim was inclined to take up lodging there because on occasion he was inclined to get a DUI. Because the "Alta Cienega" was central to all his local haunts, he was able to zip around the neighborhood without much difficulty sans automobile.

And, if you caught the film bio on Jim Morrison - starring Val Kilmer - then you are undoubtedly aware that about a mile down the strip (just shy of Beverly Hills at Doheny Drive) the "Doors" landed their first record contract while playing at the celebrated "Troubadour".

But, other celebs tended to hang out in the neighborhood, too.

When I first trundled into West Hollywood, I stayed at the Tropicana Motel just down a-ways from the Benvenuto Cafe. Back in the seventies, a whole raft of rock stars trashed the rooms there. And usually, ended up at Duke's the next morning for breakfast, none-the-worse for wear.

After the Tropicana was torn down to make way for the Ramada Inn - in keeping with the history of the location - the owners installed Pop Art posters of rock celebrities in each theme-based suite.

Ah, those were the good old days!


The Tropicana Motel was a tacky ramshackle structure which resonated with character!
