The Grove...adventurous escape from poorly-designed parking structure!

Just when life appears to be simple and uncomplicated - BAM! - out-of-the-blue an unexpected slip-up sends 'ya for a loop!

Today, as I attempted to take a short-cut through the Grove (Fairfax Market), a right-turn landed me in a one-way lane into the parking structure, teaming with a posse of irate drivers pounding on their horns as they tried to navigate the unruly jungle.

Suddenly, I caught site of a turn-off for Valet parking at the  Hotel, so I swerved into that lane so that  the Concierge could wave me on through a magic exit separate from the one with the snarling traffic.

Once I explained my dilemma, the beaming Valet instructed me to just follow the other cars to my left.

Unfortunately, the well-intentioned employee was not familiar with the garage procedures.

About fifty feet down the pavement, I spotted drivers plunking tickets into machine - at which point - the gate majestically opened and let vehicles pass.

But, I didn't have a ticket!

I imagined myself diving up to the machine (which was not manned by a guard), getting stuck in the lane with no conceivable way out, and being forced to face the angst (and mob mentality) of the angry motorists behind me.

On my right, I spotted a lone lane leading back into the parking structure, so I quickly scooted along it back towards the general parking area.

Unfortunately, I was forced to drive all the way to the top floor (a barrier prevented shoppers from exiting on the lower-levels) before I could glide back down to the exit.

With some precision driving, I managed to meander my way back to my original starting point.

"I don't have a ticket," I cried out in frustration to the Valet.

"Just explain to the guard what happened," he instructed.

But, there wasn't anyone manning the gate, I informed him in so many halted words.

"There's a service button on the face of the machine," he pointed out.

I didn't recall ever encountering one in the past at any parking structure - so, of course - I was skeptical.

What the heck, I'd give a shot one more time, after taking a vicodin..

As I slowly approached the exit, one lane was forced to merge because a frustrated man was unable to get through the gate he was parked at.

Uh-huh!

Panic set in.

So, when the gate lifted for the car ahead of me, I threw caution to the wind and decided to make a ballsy move.

I stepped on the gas, and quickly scooted under the arm, just before it crashed down on the roof of my vehicle.

OMG!

Don't try this at home.

Bottom line, I am publishing this post for two good reasons.

The first reason is obvious.

First, to warn shoppers about the poorly-designed parking structure at the Grove that may cause consumers a headache or two if they are not mindful of the glaring problem at the popular shopping center.

And, of course, to go public about the reason why I scooted out without paying.

For good reason.

Because I am so famous (and recognized on site) I expect that - as fate would have it - there was probably at least one motorist in the parking lot who observed the incident, knew who I was, and assumed I fled without coughing up my parking fees.

Not true!

The Valets are my witnesses!

And, how was your weekend?

West Hollywood...meter maid Black Bitch from hell!

I thought I'd better write this Public Service Announcement to warn residents (and visitors) to WeHo about the meter maid from hell who's out to get 'em come hell or high water!

In particular, I am inclined to draw attention to two parking zones along Santa Monica Boulevard that are currently causing some problems for unsupecting motorists.

When folks park in front of Starbucks (across from 24 Hour Fitness) or on the street in front of Pavillions (at Robertson Blvd) before 7 in the morning, they tend to be unaware of the fact there is a parking restriction for street cleaning.

Part of the reason motorists get thrown off is due to the fact that most throughways in the neighborhood only have one day assigned for street cleaning.

At the two locations in question, however, the restriction applies EVERY DAY (from 4 a.m to 7 a.m).

In fact, most drivers aren't aware of it until they step outside with a cup of hot java in hand, and spy the ticket on their windshield.

At this juncture, they stride up to the parking meter and proceed to scrutinize the parking sign more closely.

How deceptive!

For the first time, the driver suddenly notices there are actually TWO signs for each parking stall.

The one that states the restriction or street cleaning fis smaller and on the lower half of the meter and is not easy noticed.

If that weren't bad enough, there is a meter maid who obviously IS aware of the problem, and she seizes on the ignorance of people to make her ticket quota for the day.

In fact, I have spied the woman zip into the curb, and surreptiously wait for  a driver to leave their parked vehicle, so she can hit the unsuspecting resident with a citation.

Yup!

She's a real sleazy low-class bitch from hell!

If that were not the case, the nasty hag would have cruised up to the driver's  vehicle, and politely informed the owner  of the parking restriction for street cleaning in effect every day of the week.

Also, this lady (I use the term very loosely) has another bad personality trait, which also requires an investigation by her supreriors.

On occasion, if there is just two or three minutes before the hour - and a shopper is waiting in their vehicle until it elapses - the demented broad will actually pull up next their vehicle and glare at the them in a wild unsettling manner.

In so many words, she demands they move on.

Talk about petty.

The City of West Hollywood must be desperate for workers, otherwise, why would they hire a piece of sh** like that,  and install them in a job where the ability to interact with the public  in a humane professional capacity is a prequisite.

Shame!

West Hollywood...vehicles get the boot! Sign of the times?

I was dashing around - and fussing about with chores - when I suddenly spied a nasty archaic-looking thing-a-ma-jig (in brilliant orange) on the front left wheel of a dozen or so upscale cars parked around the neighborhood.

Gotcha!

The mighty "boot" struck stealthfully under the cover of darkness last night!

The unprecedented sweep was obviously a coup for the city.

Notwithstanding, the merciless night raid signalled two things to me.

One, the city is desperate to secure an influx of cash for the public coffers.

Two, motorists hit by the recent economic crunch, are having difficulty coughing up their parking fees.

Can't they proffer an I.O.U.?

Just asking!

"Running into debt isn't so bad. It's running into creditors that hurts."
