John Wildman...PR loser exits AFI Fest! Press roar in approval...

Wimpy PR bozzo!

Films critics, filmmakers, and a smattering of hangers-on pining to be bona fide power-brokers in the dream factory (Hollywood and the movie biz) - are ecstatic over the surpising (but welcome) exit of John Wildman from the PR headquarers locally at AFI.

In recent weeks during this year's AFI screening extravaganza (amidst the old-world charm of the Roosevelt Hotel) I - for one - waved adios to the AFI par-tay on the heels of atrocious back-stabbing childish behaviour by PR man (wimp) John Wildman.

I should preface this article by noting that when I first applied for press credits way back in 2008 for the AFI Fest that year, Wildman was clueless about my background (and rise through the ranks over the past decade or so) ) in the industry.

Consequently, he was inclined to grudgingly offer up a  press badge - and throw me a bone or two now and then.- when it suited his whim.

Other reporters, bloggers - and the like - also complained non-stop nauseam about unfair treatment - triggered by an ego that was blown way out-of-proportion - especially in view of his lack of actual skills, talent, smarts (whatever).

There is a wise old saying that applies in this instant case in respect to my own run-in with Bob Gazalle's "house" boy.

"Never underestimate your adversary or - at a minimum - be aware of what an individual is capable of when you're sparring with them."

Because John wasn't familiar with my own realm of success - for instance - it wasn't until later that he realized what a heap load of sh** he stepped into due to his lack of, ethics, and non-existent  intelligence.

Even when he got a rude awakening one day, he was too stupid to licks his wounds, apologize, and make amends.

For example, during a particularly explosive day on the circuit, I proceeded to pen a post on his incompetence, bad attitude, and arrogance.

In addition, I proceeded to point out all his failings as a PR Director, and how it  negatively impacted the AFI Festival.

In response - he fired back with a nasty remark or two on my blog - in a bold-faced effort to embarrass me (which simply amounted to a bit of tit-for-tat).
But, I exercised my first bit of power right away; subsequently I didn't feel the graze of any of the stinging bullets he tried to whiz my way.

I not only ingored his barbs - but poste-haste - relegated the poorly-written attack (which amounted to a twisted and distorted interpretation of the facts) to the trash bin.

Next time we crossed paths, he proceeded to whine over the incident in front of onlookers, and had the gall to infer he'd been quite nice to me!

Fooey~

He's the kind of bastard who smiles to your face, then once you  turn away,  he stabs 'ya in the back.

John made a grievous error when he also played games with more poweful media types than he.

For example, if a reporter or host rubbed him the wrong way - or didn't kow-tow to him or his staff - he'd make sure their coveted spot on the red carpet was in nowhere-land (at the end of the roped-off area where the poor schmuchs would essentially be viewed as cast-offs or lowly good-for-nothings)

Normally, by the time attendees got to that end of the gangway, they were being dragged away by equally rude and insulting underlings with no people skills, either.

Of course, all the Public Relations folks were pretty big nothings, in my opinion.

Most are failed actors, or wannabee producers, who have an itsy-bitsy piece of power shielding their clients (sometimes big stars) from the media, moguls, and tawdry social-climbers.

On many occasion, I laughed, when I witnessed their clients getting no press at all because the journalist was mistreated and put off by the public relations person's bad attitude.

If John Wildman had any ethics, sense of professionalism - or even an ounce of compassion - he would have stacked all the  nameplates into one neat pile, shuffled them vigorously, then laid them out  on the red carpet in the order they appeared from the top.

But John is  too dumb to conjure up smart ideas like that.

Beside, Wildman loves rubbing journalist's noses in sh**.

In the alternative, he's all over them like a dirty shirt, brown-nosing.

Of course, I never put up with any of that bull, no sir!

I just kept notes, and embarrased the hell out of him and his staff, at every opportunity.

When I travelled to Dallas - you'd think that John wouldn't have been forewarned - about the perils of crossing moi!

Especially when you consider he realized early on - quite by accident - that fighting  me was a "no no" he should avoid at every cost.

For instance, one day John was googling himself  (yes, that's how vain he is) when he was shocked to stumble on a negative profile I penned on him.

He griped to one guest at the Festival lounge in Dallas - that  there was an  unsavory "review" of his public relations career skills - because of me.

That's how dumb John was.

I was quite aware of the fact that because of my stature in the industry - and due to the fact I wrote features on high-profile individuals - that I was pretty highly-ranked on search engines.

I knew right off-the-bat when he ran interference, and mistreated me, that he would end up all over the internet with a bad rep if I reported on his unprofessional conduct, ego-stroking, and selfish conduct.

Now, you'd think John would have learned his lesson, right?

No, he dug his heels in, and persisted with his shameful disreputable conduct.

On one occasion in Dallas, he actually lied and told me an event I wanted to attend (which I had been invited to by the organizers &sponsors) wasn't on the fest schedule!

Later, he relented, and admitted there was a special function for kids at Victory Park.

"I thought the tattler wouldn't be interested in the event because it was for kids," he waffled in his defense unconvincingly.

Was he kidding?

I have always loved being involved with projects for children; in fact, on numerous occasions I have promoted highly-lauded oganizations such as KIDS First, etc.

Even though that issue was ironed out to my satisfaction, with an apology to boot from Wildman, his sleazy conduct continued.

When the AFI was preparing to kick off  their 2009 Festival in Los Angeles in November, for example, I whizzed off an e-mail requesting my press pass for this year's celebration of film.

For a couple of days, John ignored my e-mail, in spite of the fact he assured me in the fall of 2008 that I was "family" now.

Yeah, he's such a phoney!

Should I have bowed down and kissed his unwashed feet?

Push came to shove, when a couple of journalists (and moi) were insulted on the opening night of the AFI Fest, after a premiere red carpet screening.

I sipped on a beer for awhile, and then elected to take in a private party at the poolside bar, at the rear of the Roosevelt Hotel.

A tall imposing Afro-American guard - after catching sight of my press badge - barred my path and gruffly ordered me away.

"No press allowed," he snarled in my direction.

I understood that, no problem.

On occasion, celebrities pine for a bit of privacy, at after-parties held by the sponsors.

So, I drifted off to rustle up some action, elsewhere.

Shortly after, a couple of journalists spied me chug-a-lugging my beer in the main bar, and dashed off to let off some steam.

"I can't believe it," one reporter bellowed.

"They treated us like dirt."

A second journalist piped up.

"We give them thousands of dollars of free publicity and they have the nerve to treat us like that."

The next day, I e-mailed John about the nasty incident, so he would be aware of the fact media types did not appreciate the way they were being treated.

In response, he zipped back a communication, in which he curtly informed me that my reservationn for a red carpet event the next night was cancelled because of a lack of space!

And, get this, he didn't even bother to respond to my complaint issues!

The next day - after a post I penned was published on the internet tossing the spotllight on the despicable behaviour of staff members (and guards) going down at AFI - he e-mailed a second communication noting that another reservation for the next night's screening was also cancelled due to a full house.

Well, I wasn't born yesterday, nor do I have stupid written across my forehead.

Fortunately, the films I was intent on screening, were part of the Envelope series sponsored by the daily paper (Los Angeles Times).

So, I caught the flicks at the Landmark Theatre in West Los Angeles.

Betta!

I was treated well - (free soda and snacks) - and was among my "people" not jacka**es like Wildman.

Needless to say, I have not responded to any of their press notices since then, nor have I bothered to waste my professional time giving them any publicity for their festivals, top ten lists, or special functions.

Now that John Wildman has departed, I have informed AFI that I may consider covering their projects in the future once again.

Hopefully, Bob Gazalles - director of the AFI Fest in Los Angeles -will hire a professional, competent, and well-mannered individual capable of treating industry folks with a little more respect than the "Wild" man!

Like moi!

Kidding.

Earthlink...embezzles funds! Engages in fraud, breach of contract & false advertising!

Imagine this scenario!

After tracking down a web hosting plan that suits your budget - for approximately $20.00 a month, let's say - you proceed to explore the control panel at the new server to ready yourself for the painstaking task of designing, building, and publishing your web site.

When you stumble on the option to set alerts on the account, you input a request that a notice be sent out in the event you go over your monthly usage, to ultimately ensure that your remain within your budget for the project online.

At the suggestion of the web hosting company - in this instance, Earthlink - you agree to input your debit card information in their data base so that the monthly fee of may be deducted from your acccount without the necessity of writing and mailing in a check each month.

Afer a few months, the site is pretty well-developed, attracting traffic, and everything looks hunky-dorey.

Each month you've been billed the sum due without incident.

Then, out-of-the-blue one day, Earthlink informs you by snail mail that a charge in the sum of approximately $968.00 (and some change) has been returned from the bank unpaid.

Say what?

Obviously Earthlink has not only made a serious error, but acted illegally, for having tried to debit a charge in an excessive sum (1) without notice; (2) for a sum that was not due; (3) in violation of the terms of agreement (no notice was given that any surcharges were tacked on due to overlimit usage either).

Was it all a silly mistake, a typo perhaps?

In response, the account-holder mails out a letter objecting to the charge, on the grounds that no alert was sent.

In particular, the customer expresses their outrage about the illegal attempt to debit an excessive sum of approximately $969.00 from their bank account without legal notice or authority to charge the sum in question.

Earthlink fails to respond, so the customer assumes that  the error was corrected.

Not so fast!

Two weeks later, in spite of the fact Earthlink has not addressed the original complaint, the larcenous  web hosting company fires off a second billing notice alleging that the sum of approximately $1600.00 is now due.
Huh?

How is it possible for a monthly bill of $19.99 to jump to $969.00  in two short weeks, then to the outrageous astronomical sum of $1600.00 ten days later?

And, don't forget that alert!

There was no record of any alerts being e-mailed out as requested, or any proof of any Earthlink response to the allegations of breach of agreement, attempted embezzlement of funds, false advertising, and deceitful business practices.

Notwithstanding the failure to respond, address the issues - and so forth and so on - Earthlink once again attempted to debit without notice or legal authority to do so for the staggering sum of $2200.00.

Fortunately, the customer kept low-ball sums in the checking account, to prevent embezzlement of funds.

In addition to the headaches surrounding the dishonest illegal conduct of Earthlink, there is a second issue the web client must now contend with.

After months of developing the sight with thousands of man hours devoted to the cause, the individual must now relocate the site at considerabe effort (and additional costs), to another web hoster to escape the deceitful and dishonest clutches of the earthlink bank thieves.

In addition to the foregoing, it should be noted for the record, that the service provided was not even that professional or reliable.

Several times a week, the customer was forced to spend a hour or so with customer support online, to sort out problems that continued ad nauseam.

For example, oftentimes the customer and visitors to the site, were not able to access the web homepage, which according to an error message (a denial of access code) stated the site was not available due to a password requirement (???), site publishing errors, whatever.

Also, on dozens of ocasions, images failed to load properly on the web pages, which resulted in ugly gaping holes on the posts (which looked shoddy, unprofessional, and downright amateurish).

After six weeks, Earthlink continued to add surcharges, but as of this date has never met their burden to establish by virtue of accounting and proper documentation how the figures were tabulated.

In the end scenario, the customer was forced to close his bank account (after all, when he attempted to delete the credit card info from the web site data base, his efforts were blocked by dishonest Earthlink employees who obviously intended to keep trying debits with that card automatically until they hit pay dirt by a fluke).

And, get this, when the customer tried to transfer their domain name (which they owned) to another web host plan - Earthlink also blocked the ID code from releasing the site - even though they did not have the authority or legal right to do so.

Talk about scumbags!

Avoid these a**holes and their web hosting plans like the plague!!

CEO rip-off thief at Earthlink!

Social Security...staff snoop and invade privacy of citizens! Rights violations must stop...

Identity theft starts at Social Security due to poor training
and failure to observe privacy laws

There has been some grumbling among residents in some neighborhoods that Social Security staff (in particular security guards and clerks handling benefits issues) have been snooping into their affairs and discussing highly-confidential client information in violation of State and Federal Law.

Actors, writers - and performers in the arts who tend to be in the spotlight a lot - are particularly upset when they encounter stares and notice that employees actually point them out in the waiting room and disclose private and confidential information about them to other staff members in the office.

Either the employees at Social Security are very stupid - or lack formal training - in respect to the basics (such  as they pertain to privacy issues and the right to be treated without discrimination).

All citizens have a right to drop into a Social Security office to obtain a new card, question eligibility for benefts, whatever.

They shouldn't be scared away from visting a local Social Security office for fear that details of their private lives will be revealed to gossip mongers, the curious, or the tabloids.

The problem appears to occur with African-Americans and Hispanics who don't have much of a clue about the issues in view of their track record.

When I hear the complaints, I urge the victims to report the matter to the Commissioner of the Social Security Administration in Washington (and their local rep at the State level).

If these employees show don't show more compassion and understanding, they should be shown the door, to prevent these disturbing intrusions from unfolding unjustly in the future.

Oscar Nominations...Avatar & Hurt Locker lead pack! Meryl Streep, Matt Damon, Jeff Bridges land acting nods...

Going for the Gold!

Best Animated Film

At the crack of dawn this morning, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences wiped the cobwebs from their eyes and anounced that two films ( “Avatar” and “The Hurt Locker”) each won nine Oscar nominations for the 2009 slate of films in the running for a little Statuette.

Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds" - another major contender in the race for the gold - was also breathing down the  necks of two Directors (James Cameron & Kathryn Bigelow) with eight triumphs in worthy categories.
.
Avatar, Hurt Locker, and Inglourious Basterds were all nominated for best picture in a contest that's going to be thrilling to watch come Oscar Night.

And,  the super talents at the helm of each project - Quentin Tarantino, Kathryn Bigelow, and "King of the World" James Cameron - are also neck-in-neck for best directing kudos.

Other best picture nominees (in a crowded category where ten films are now nominated for best feature  each year) were “District 9”, “An Education”, “A Serious Man” and “Up.”

“Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire" won six nominations.

Nods went to "Precious" for Drama, Lee Daniels (Director), Gabourey Sidibe (Best Actress), Mo’Nique (Best Supporting Actress), and best adapted screenplay for Geoffrey Fletcher.

“Up in the Air” (one of my fave films) garnered acclaim, too, with six nominations (best picture, best director for talented  Jason Reitman, best adapted script, best actor for sexy George Clooney, and two supporting actress nominations for Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrick.

Sandra Bullock, considered a dark horse, was nominated best actress for her role in the much- hailed "Blind Side " to the surprise of most industry-analysts.

“District 9" - a Sci-Fi thriller (which I found entertaining & innovataive for the most part) - edged out a tough competitor in the field (Star Trek).

“Invictus" (directed by Clint Eastwood) also rustled up nominations for Morgan Freeman (star) and always effervescent supporting actor Matt Damon.

Nominees for best actor also included seasoned Jeff Bridges (Crazy Heart); British actor Colin Firth (A Single Man); and Jeremy Renner ( Hurt Locker).

Personally, I was impressed with the performances of all three actors, but expect Bridges - on the heels of snapping up a Golden Globe & Screen Actors Guild Award - is considered the favorite to win.

Rounding out the best actress category were Carey Mulligan (An Education); Meryl Streep (Julie & Julia); and Helen Merrin (The Last Station).

Maggie Gyllenhaal was nominated for best supporting actress for “Crazy Heart”, while Penélope Cruz nabbed her nomination in this category for her dazzling performance in “Nine.”

The supporting actor nominees also included Woody Harrelson (The Messenger); Christopher Plummer  (The Last Station); and Stanley Tucci (The Lovely Bones).

Nominations for best original screenplay went to Alessandro Camon & Oren Moverman (The Messenger); Joel & Ethan Coen for (A Serious Man); and Pete Docter, Bob Peterson and Thomas McCarthy (UP).

Nominees for best adapted screenplay included Nick Hornby (An Education); Neill Blomkamp and Terri Tatchell (District 9); and Jesse Armstrong, Simon Blackwell, Armando Iannucci, and Tony Roche (In the Loop).

“Up” received a nomination for best animated film along with "Coraline", "Fantastic Mr. Fox", "The Secret of the Kells", and "The Princess and the Frog".

Best foreign language film nominees were “Ajami,” (Israel);  “A Prophet,” (France); “The Secret in Their Eyes,” (Argentina); “The White Ribbon,” Germany); and “The Milk of Sorrow” (Peru).

Unfortunately, most of the features produced overseas have not been released in the U.S. (so audiences in America are not entirely sure who to root for in this category - although a white horse is defintely "The White Ribbon"  (Germany) - based on word of mouth.

This year, the Oscar ceremony boasts two hosts - funnyman Steve Martin and actor Alec Baldwin - which should prove to be an intriguing twist for one of the most highly-watched broadcasts of the year.

MTA...mistreats homeless man in blanket! Bus Drivers need training...

Joseph & his coat of many colors!

I was quite shocked to witness an ugly incident tonight on a Metro Transit bus on route through (Beverly Hills) to downtown Los Angeles (Carrier No. 4).

When a homeless man wrapped in a blanket stepped onto the bus, the driver snapped at the down-on-his-luck rider in two-seconds flat.

"You can't come on here dressed like that," he snarled angrily.

Since I do have a background in law - and day-to-day differences of opinions tend to be easily dealt with by virtue of a human trait known as common sense - it was pretty disturbing to encounter such revolting conduct  by a bus driver on a major public transit line in the United States.

I like to think that if the Mayor was aware that this kind of cruel insensitive conduct was going on at the MTA, that he would step in and take appropriate action to ensure drivers are better trained in the future (so they can handle  issues that arise without discriminating against citizens and/or violatingtheir rights).

By the way, the blanket the homeless person was wearing was not torn or dirty - by any stretch of the imagination.

In fact, the cover was surprisingly clean and crafted in bright eye-catching colors.

I suppose if Joseph hopped on the bus in his coat of many colors, the ignorant MTA worker would toss his sorry a** into the gutter, too.

Frankly, I've seen women attired in shawls and ponchos, who paled in comparison.

But, the wrong-doing on the part of the MTA worker, did not end there.

When the driver yelled at the man, and demanded he take off the blanket, his gut reaction was to toss his fare into the change machine and dart to the back of the bus.

Obviously, he was cold (and hungry) and did not want to be turfed out into the street.

At this juncture, the bus driver picked up the phone and threatened to call the police, if the man did not get off the bus.

Curious, since the gentleman was not violent, but relatively meek and mild in nature.

As it turns out, the rider was short on his fare - so the MTA driver jumped on that issue - to try to eject him.

Passengers now became disgruntled because the driver swore up and down that he was not going to drive on until the man got off the carrier.

Compassionate city residents offered to pay the man's fare in the alternative.

"I don't want the dollar. I just want him and his blanket off of MY bus."

Kind-hearted individuals tried to convince him not to act so mean.

"It's not me," he lamented. "The MTA doesn't want homeless people on the bus in blankets."

Is that true Mr. Mayor???

The driver relented after about ten minutes, shifted gears, and drove on.

In the final analysis, this driver was not only a complete and utter sh**,  but also lacked training and compassion for his fellow man, as well.

If anyone should get the boot from MTA, it should be the employee in question.

His conduct was reprehensible and should not be tolerated in a civilized society.

Marijuana...ballot measure to legalize pot in November! California leads way...

Don't Bogart that joint Arnold!

We'll contract a shipper later!

Although I am not a pot smoker (if take a toke of a joint I get lost in the pattern in the carpet for an hour or two) I was excited for marjuana advocates who managed to secure over 700,000 signatures from California residents this past week.

In essence, it was a big step forward for the organizers, who are seeking to place a measure on the November ballot to legalize old  "Mary Jane"  for personal use.

In the second phase of the procedure enough signatures (and identities) must be verified  for the bill to go forward - at which point supporters of the forward-thinking measure - will have a shot at decriminalizing possession and use of the leafy plant.

In the event voters say "yeah" come November, it will be legal for citizens 21 and older to grow and possess up to an ounce of the "killer weed" (as it was once referred to in the bygone days of reefer madness).

In addition, local governments would be able to tax and regulate cannabis (although it would still be considered a banned substance under Federal Law).

At the West Hollywood Halloween Carnival last October 31st,  one activist asked me to sign his petition for the legalization of marijuana in the State of California.

I did better than that.

I whipped out my video camera and allowed him to shoot off  his mouth about the proposal on camera (and summarily posted it at my YouTube web site).

Post:  11/01/10

As the tongues began to wag, the movement strengthened and gathered steam in California.

Interesting that Californians are urging the Government to go beyond limited "medicinal marijuana" use - to now include the relaxant across the board (along the same lines as the public sale of liquor) for adults of mature age.

When you consider all the-  fuss, legal entanglements, and costly waste of judicial resource in recent years over the issues - it is easy to fathom why folks say the heck with it.

Go for the whole enchilada, dude!

My readers may recall that I supported the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes over the past year-and-a-half and have been vehemently opposed to the nasty DEA Raids (and subsequent rights violations that occurred when the shake down commenced against pot users and  legal dispensaries).

In addition, I also put my moolah where my yap was, too.

On occasion, I attended protests at FBI Headquarters at the Federal Building, to protest the para-military-style raids.

In spite of the fact these innocent victims followed the letter of the law (i.e. obtained a prescription from a practising physician and purchased their medicine through legal pot dispensaries) DEA Agents continued to bust down their doors, terrorize them at gunpoint, and confiscate their marijuana (and cash).

Curiously, for the most part, no charges were laid.

Something didn't pass the smell test, though.

At one rally downtown, a member of a pot dispensry was handing out invitations for a party later that night, to celebrate some headway being made in the local courts on the issues.

As it turned out, DEA agents were in the midst of the throngs undercover (posing as supporters of medicinal marijuana) in a bold-faced deceitful effort to surreptitiously glean information and dredge up names and addresses of parties involved in the movement (so they could bust their a**es).

It was a despicable ploy which they later made good on.

In fact, on the heels of learning about the party to be held a few hours later, the agents dashed back to their headquarters - rustled  up a posse of agents - and proceeded to raid the medical facility to retaliate against the protesters for tossing the spotlight on their reprehensible pottie-raids which landed their top brass in hot water with White House officials.

In fact, shortly after I made a demand of the Department Director (in a searing post levelled at the heinous conduct of the DEA) she "resigned".

In response to my post, a handful of agents stepped forward and noted for the record, that the despicable DEA Direcctor previously punished them (with swift and severe demotions) for whistle-blowing.

http://stopthedrugwar.org/speakeasy/main/posts/2006/sep/03/karen_tandy_retaliates_against

For a short while, the raids wound down, then flared up again just after Barack Obama took office.

After thousands of citizens signed a petition demanding an end to the DEA Raids, the White House relented.

One day out-of-the-blue, I received an e-mail communication informing me that just minutes prior, the President issued a directive to DEA field Directors around the country to cease & desist with the DEA raids.

On the heels of that communication, I immediately penned a post and was one of the first journalists to publish Barack's new policy online.

Post::  10/19/09

In restrospect, the inevitable is going to happen.

Instead of digging in their heels, the DEA should work with California lawmakers and residents of this great state, to end the bitter fight on the marijuana battleground (where law enforcement is being put to shame daily).

Richard Lee, a backer of the legalization (who has expended at least a million bucks of his own on behalf of  the cause to date) heralds the signature/ballot initiative as a historic step toward ending cannabis prohibition.

Of course, there have quite a few marijuana bills floating around the state, but this is the first one submitted for the all-important signature count.

A proposal to legalize pot passed in a crucial committee phase, but the clock ran out in the legislature, so it is stalled right now in a haze of sweet-smelling smoke.

There may be a few mirrors in there, too.

Judge Gray - a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge - supports the ballot measure (in spite of fact he is a non-smoker) and appears to echo my own thoughts ("what we've been doing with marijuana in our state and this country has not been working").

Then why not act.?

Of course - there must be a proper debate - so the voice of the "people" may be heard.

For instance, on a web site for "Californians for Drug Free Youth", the director argues that legalization will lead to an increase in drug use by youths.

If I wanted to play devil's advocate, I might make the pitch that the youth of America is more inclined to be excited at the prospect of participating in an activity that is illegal (the thrill of getting caught is an adrenalin rush, after all).

Another thought springs to mind - a sort of knee-jerk reaction -  to the controversy as well.

In  Europe, teenagers are allowed to drink wine with dinner at casual family and social events without the blink of an eye.

Researchers have speculated that because of the mature (sophisticated) approach to wine - and alchohol intake - there are fewer alcoholics in European Nations.

That makes sense to moi.

After all, if a child is denied a privilege, they are inclined to seek the experience more fervently.

Perhaps, if North Americans did not make such a taboo about the practice, the controversy might just wither away.
Just a thought triggered by a drug-induced stupor, no doubt.

Kidding!

Once marijuana use is legal - and endorsed by parents, teachers and voters of the state -  it may lose its appeal to the wild young bunch.

Maybe Californians should give it a try, test the waters, if you will.
