Wilson Phillips...Multi-Platinum trio appear @ Cannery tonight! Vegas live show!

On the heels of their surging pop hit success - "Hold On" the Wilson Phillips band (known as the Multi-Platinum Trio) are slated to appear tonight at the Cannery in Las Vegas!

The three fresh-faced beauties who make up the trio of hot performers (the offspring of a couple of well-known musical greats Michelle Phillips & Brian Wilson) were ecstatic about the much-ballyhooed gig when they appeared in person on a local talk show in Las Vegas yesterday.

Ever since their previous single originally released years ago was featured recently in the comedy feature - Bridesmaids - they talented gals been basking in the glow of the spotlight.

And, the catchy light-hearted tune has increased 620 % in sales!

"If we had known it was going to be such a great success, we would have recorded a remix," one of the pretty songbirds gushed to the host of the popular Entertainment show.

The group is comprised of

Carnie Wilson

Carnie is the daughter of Beach Boy founder Brian Wilson.

In addition to singing and songwriting, Wilson’s has dabbled in acting and been on Television in the capacity of a host.

Chynna Phillips

The pretty young  lady is the daughter of John and Michelle Phillips of the Mamas and Papas. She began her career in acting with performances in Some Kind of Wonderful, Caddyshack II, and Say Anything.

Wendy Wilson

Wendy is also the daughter of Beach Boy founder Brian Wilson. She and sister Carnie released the CD - “Hey, Santa!” - which is a beautiful collection of classic and original Christmas songs.

Wilson also performed in the Beach Boys Family and Friends tour for 3 years.

Apparently, Michelle Phillips is expected to attend their performance tonight which kicks off at 8:30 p.m.

"Michelle might get up on stage, who knows!"

Back in the seventies, Dennis Wilson was a friend of mine.

I expect that today -were he alive (he passed to spirit years ago after a drowning incident) - he would be very proud of the Wilson and Phillips offspring.

The Wilson Phillips band is going on tour, by the way.

No, the film cameo did not trigger that road trip, since it was in the planning stages already.

If you can't make the Cannery show tonight, then, keep you eye out for their appearance soon in your town in the near future, eh?

Break a leg, girls!

Las Vegas...Steve Wynn jazzing up Encore! Surf''s up...

I imagine myself in this hammock already!

Steve Wynn is jazzing up Encore!

I was out for a stroll the other morning when a ghastly mess on the strip caught my eye.

Up-front and center, outside the Encore Hotel complex - one construction crew was erecting unsightly chain-link fences and overly-bright hard plastic barriers to create a pedestrian walkway - as another shovelled up debris from a low-level structure that a wrecking ball had smashed into smithereens.

Wasn't this parcel of land owned by Steve Wynn?

At one section of the block where two-ton trucks rumbled in and out of a make-shift entrance, I spied a worker within arm's length of me, so I decided to go to the horse's mouth for information so-to-speak.

"Isn't this part of the Encore Hotel property owned by Wynn," I innocently asked the surprised female construction worker.

"Uh-huh," she grumbled back.

"He (we all know who he is, right?) is tearing down this section to put in an 18 million-dollar beach club," she shouted above he rising din.

"'Wow," was about the only response I could muster on the heels of such staggering news.

A beach club for 18 million smackeroos?

At this juncture, I put my thinking cap on.

Does Mr. Wynn intend to fabricate a beach setting - complete with rolling waves and warm sand  oozing between the toes - to jazz up the Hotel complex a tad?

I expect he'll also be simulating the soothing sounds of the surf as it crashes oh-so-gently on the shore at Wynn's Beach.

True, the interior of the Encore is sumptuous and inviting.

But, with exception to the waterfall and grounds brimming with lush foliage, the overall outdoor image of Encore and the sister Hotel at the complex, is nothing short of the plain-Jane variety.

Moreso, me thinks that Mr. Wynn doesn't hanker up to the idea of being left in the cold.

The Aria and Mandarin Hotels (about to swing open their doors at the CityCenter this Wednesdayon  Dec. 16th) will probably steal alot of Mr. Wynn's thunder in coming days.

Even with Garth Brooks under his house wing, the Encore is vulnerable to rapidly-changing resort trends, that are luring the tourist class, "whales", and European travellers, doww new boulevards and eye-catching vistas in sin city.

Cut-rate "room sales" online are also taking a bite out of potential revenue as well.

So, Mr. Wynn - visionary that he is - has obviously hatched up a scheme to guarantee his place in the sun alongside the big players in the Desert Oasis.

Well, you Wynn some, and 'ya lose sum.

It will be interesting to see how the transformation pans out for the mercurial Wynn, and translates into greenbacks, eh?

Dennis Wilson...Beach Boy blues!

Occasionally - the press will run news bites about Beach Boy Carl Wilson - band member of the musical phenomenon, the Beach Boys.

Usually, there's a lot of fodder about dependency, or curious tales about an unethical psychiatrist who pulled the member's strings for a short period.

And, just maybe, reports muse about the band's overall illustrious musical past.

In contrast, Dennis Wilson remained out of the unpleasant glare of the spotlight during his short dance on the face of the Earth.

Save for the Charles Manson association, of course!

Years ago, through acquaintances, I became friends with the drummer with the steady catchy beat, in a round-about way.

Although Dennis was separated from his wife - Karen Lamm - he constantly longed for the woman who got under his beautifully-tanned skin.

Not unlike the "Burton's" in their day, Wilson & Lamm tried to work out the intricacies of their tempestuous relationship. In the end, the pretty charismatic twosome called it quits, in spite of the fact they were married and divorced twice.

On occasion, Dennis would drop by unannounced for an impromptu visit - at some un-Godly hour like 3 a.m. in the morning - for instance.

Within minutes after alighting on my couch, he'd produce a miniature antique spoon from within the confines of his fashionable outerwear. With a couple of quick precise maneuvers, he'd be snorting up a mound of white powdery stuff.

Ah, cocaine!

In spite of the fact he was addicted to the high - for the most part - the laid-back beach boy managed to remain in control of his faculties.

In my presence, anyway.

But, he had his melancholy moments, when he'd pine for the love of his life, Karen Lamm.

Their sad demise was something difficult for him to fathom.

An elusive dream, that slipped away forever.

But, the talented musician didn't want for company; after all, Dennis was an attractive, sexy man.

Usually, he dashed around town sporting a pair of doctor's scrubs, in vogue at the time.

Slight of build, he wore a scruffy beard with surprising style, topped by a mane of healthy shaggy hair.

But, he was a madman on wheels, that's for sure.

On a couple of occasions when I rode with him in the black Corniche Rolls Royce at his disposal, he squealed through the Hollywood Hills burning rubber like he was behind the wheel of an expensive hotrod.

At the time, he was half-way into an affair with Christine McVie.

The whole scenario was not disimiliar to the tale that was depicted in the remake of the classic film - "A Star is Born" - which starred songstress Barbara Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.

When McVie was off on tour with Fleetwood Mac racking in the glory and the big bucks, Dennis shuffled around her Manse in the hills - stir crazy - and in need of an emotional fix.

He was obviously discontent, but what made him tick?

One day, after brooding a little, he angrily noted that his father had sold all the rights to the Beach Boys' early hits.

At the time, I was naive, and not too familiar with the ins-and-outs of the record business.

So, his angst soared over my head, failing to hit its intended target.

Certainly, I was capable of feeling his pain.

But in the great big scheme of things, my head was in the clouds.

Years later, when a classic Beach Boy hit turned up on a tacky taco commercial, it suddenly hit me smack dab in the gut.

Yeah, the Wilson boys' father sold 'em out.

Tough for a young man to face up to, even when the reality of it all stares him in the face.

When Dennis wasn't at McVie's elegant palace in the hills, he'd lull away hours on his yacht moored in a slip at the Marina.

Ah, he loved the majesty of the great sea!

Out-of-the-blue one day, a news report blared out from the TV, and it upset me.

Apparently, Dennis dove in for a refreshing swim one fine morning, and failed to reappear at the surface of the still waters.

Ironic, that.

A beach boy, king of the California sun and sand and surf, spirited away by the powerful currents of the ocean lurking below the surface.

Maybe, it was appropriate.

The California dreamer is at peace, at last, in his true element.
