Leslie Caron...to attend book signing @ Egyptian Screening! Dec. 18th!

Legendary actress (and renowned film beauty) Leslie Caron is slated to appear at the Egyptian Theatre on Saturday December 18th in Hollywood.

On that celebrated occasion, Ms. Caron will attend a screening of the classic feature film - "An American in Paris" - which won an Oscar in 1952.

The dazzling film great will sign copies of her autobiography:

"Thank Heaven: A Memoir"

Leslie Claire Margaret Caron was born on July 1st in 1931 and is primarily known as a screen actress and celebrated dancer.

Over the past few decades, Caron has appeared in approximately forty-five flicks.

Ms. Caron is best known for the musicals such as - "An American in Paris" (1951), Lili (1953), the comedy Daddy Long Legs (1955), and Gigi, a signature role (1958).

In addition, the respected performer also graced the screen in a handful of "straight roles" in non-musical projects such as Fanny (1961), The L-Shaped Room (1962), and Father Goose (1964).

The respected actress has been blessed with a dedicated fan base who have courted her every move.

Ms. Caron has also been recognized by her peers in the industry, who bestowed upon her two Oscars for performances which fell in the prestigeous category of "Best Actress".

During the course of her stellar career on the boards, Ms. Caron has two-stepped with a posse of dance legends, such as Gene Kelley, Fred Astaire, Mikhail Baryshnikov, and ballet great Rudolph Nureyev.

Quentin Tarantino...retrospective of films @ Egyptian includes Kill Bill! Feb. 8th...

On the heels of a knock-out 8 Oscar nominations for a remake of the feature Inglourious Basterds, the Egyptian Theatre is screening a retrsopective of Quentin Tarantino films on Monday Feb 8th and Tuesday Feb. 9th respectively.

For Tarentino fans, it promises to be a smorgasbord of delightful celluloid moments.

Pulp Fiction is slated to screen on Monday February 8th at 6 p.m.

After a brief intermission, Oscar-nominated "Inglourious Basterds" will light up the silver screen at 8:45 p.m.

Shortly after the curtain goes up - Tarantino will saunter up to the podium for what will undoubtedly be - a stimulating Q &  A session with fans and film buffs at 10:15 p.m.

On February 9th, a combined version of Kill Bill (Volumes 1 & 2) will screen to packed houses, I expect.

Cousin Junebug Funk Bank...dazzled theatre-goers at Artivist Film Festival!

Cousin Junebug Funk band - to  use an old cliche - really rocks!

One night at the Artivist Film Festival - after screening a short film on the environment - I was blown away when I stumbled across the spirited musicians hired to entertain the evening's guests in the exotic open courtyward at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.

Fortunately, my video camera was on hand, so I whpped it out and captured a few amazing riffs, drum-rolls, and horn-plays on tape, much to the delight of my music-loving friends who can't soak up enough of this unique, high-energy, captivating sound!

Artivist Film Festival...Benjamin Bratt film to screen @ Egyptian Theatre! Fest Dec. 1st thru Dec. 5th...

The good news?

Tickets for screenings @  the 6th Annual Artivist Film Festival (opens tomorrow) are free!

But, if you didn't RSVP last week - chances are - you may be SOL!

I booked my seats last week, so I'm sitting pretty.

The Film Festival venue - the Egyptian Theatre - is probably one of the most prestigious venues in town.

Alighting there, to catch a flick, is like stepping into all the old-world-charm of once-glamorous Hollywood.

Over the years, there have been many a premiere there of some import.

For example, the Egyptian's grand opening coincided with Hollywood's very first movie premiere in the month of October (1922).

The Egyptian screened "Robin Hood" (starring Douglas Fairbanks & Wallace Beery).

In true glitzy Grauman style, the splashy affair featured bright lights, a galaxy of stars and the very first red carpet run-away (a novelty idea that stuck and has continued as a great Tinseltown tradition to this day).

The Egyptian theme was inspired by the discovery of King Tut's tomb in the year the elegant theatre was built.

Like the Chinese Theatre (farther down the boulevard), the architectural beauty had an open courtyard out front,  to take advantage of street traffic.

The forecourt featured massive, four-feet wide Egyptian-style columns, hieroglyphics, murals, a tiled fountain, large pots filled with exotic plants, and even a 12-foot figure of a dog-headed Egyptian god guarding the portico.

These forecourts were the perfect setting for the ubiquitous (inquisitive) press to perch and jockey for publicity stills - as Hollywood's high-profile movie stars traipsed down a gauntlet - edged with excited fans and wide-eyed curiosity-seekers.

Next week, if you attend a film at the festival, you may end up rubbing shoulders with a celebrity, too
Artivist's mission is to strengthen the voice of advocates in the medium of celluloid.

During the five-day run at the Egyptian, forty independent narratives will spring to life on the celebrated screen, in addition to a handful of insightful thought-provoking narratives, docmentaries, and short films.

American Cinematheque! Horror Classics for Halloween. October 30th @ the Egyptian Theatre.

Got nothing to do on Thursday, October 30th, just prior to the wild bash on Halloween night in West Hollywood?

Why not prep yourself for the ghoulish celebrations on spooky Friday - by attending a couple of trick-or-treat Horror Classics - sponsored by American Cinematheque at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood?

The prestigious organization is screening 2 Peter Cushing/Terrence Fisher features on a double-bill! (Hammer Productions)

Horror of Dracula was shot in 1956.

Director Terence Fisher and screenwriter Jimmy Sangster offer up their take on Bram Stoker’s celebrated gothic horror period piece.

Christopher Lee's moody performance as Dracula is a stand-out.

And, Professor Van Helsing is played to the hilt by spirited Peter Cushing.

Highlights include brooding cinematography and a stirring score by James Bernard.

Horror of Dracula is touted as one of Hammer’s most enduring masterpieces!

The second thriller on the bill - The Brides of Dracula - was shot in 1960.

Terence Fisher directed.

In this scary offering, Baron Meinster is played by David Peel.

At the beginning of the film, an intro by voice over, intones:

"Transylvania is a land of dark forests, dread mountains and black unfathomed lakes, still the home of magic and devilry as the nineteenth century draws to its close. Count Dracula, monarch of all vampires is dead but his disciples live on to spread the cult and corrupt the world"

In a nutshell, it is a wacko tale about a bloodsucking villain chained in a castle lair by a conflicted deranged mother (Matita Hunt).

When the Baron is unwittingly released by a stranded French schoolteacher by the name of Marianne (Yvonne Monlaur) he proceeds to wreak havoc amongst the local female population.

Luckily, Marianne is rescued by a traveling vampire hunter by the name of Professor Van Helsing (played with great dramatic flair by Peter Cushing) - at which point - the battle between good and evil begins in earnest.

A rip-roaring tall tale and one of Hammer’s most rewarding vampire pictures, according to horror genre film buffs.
