Sbarro...worst pizza in Vegas @ Monte Carlo Hotel!

Close your eyes.

Relax!

Now, open up your mouth wide, and take a bite of this morsel of food I am offering up.

It is cold, tastes like cardboard, and causes you to gag when you attempt to chew on it.

What is it?

The worst pizza in Las Vegas being served up at Sbarro daily at the Monte Carlo Hotel.

No kidding!

Something tells me those Latino Chefs should leave the pizza-making to the Italians!

Avoid this eatery like the plague, or suffer the trots during your brief stay in the desert oasis, just betcha.

Later!

McDonald's...automated food servers! Cheap robot labor!

A few weeks ago, Tattler readers may recall that I was on the rag about the incompetence of employees - and their inability to communicate effectively with customers - the popular eatery.

Consumers who cruise into McDonald's daily have encountered a myriad of problems that range from troubling interactions with rude workers, communication difficulties that arise from the fact many employees don't speak fluent English, and cold tasteless meals that have been slapped togther without any concern for quality or customer satisfaction,

In response, McDonald's top brass at the executive offices announced over the past week, that the fast-food outlet is about to introduce a fully-automated facility which will not require any contact with McDonald's employees!

According to News reports overseas, McDonald’s will be supplying 7,000 European outlets with a swipe card and touchscreen facilities. The idea is to make ordering a McDonald’s quicker, easier and more efficient for the customer.

Some cynics argue that this is a sly way for McDonald's to rustle up more revenue in a short period.

In tandem with the overhaul at the cash register, McDonald's intends to build a database of the most popular take-out items.

Although the visionary corporation has stumbled on solutions to a couple of dilemmas - the need to lower the cost of labor and increase sales - another problem may rear its ugly head in the aftermath.

Is it possible to turn out thousands of tasty meals daily - with Robots at the helm - and still manage to satisfy customers with menu items that are fresh, tasty, and something to write home about?

Carl's Jr....sign jutting into street a hazard to pedestrians!

Shortly after carrying out a couple of chores bright-and-early this morning, I was strolling along the Vegas strip, when - BAM! - it suddenly felt like someone punched me in the forehead with a two-ton Jack hammer!

For a second, I blacked out.

Then, in the next, I managed to hold my balance precariously as I tried to prevent my body from falling backwards off the heels of my wobbling feet.

When my eyes fluttered open a second or two later, I caught sight of the culprit, that delivered the nasty blow.

Imagine that!

I walked into a sign for a Carl's Jr. fast-food  joint - crafted in metal - which was jutting out into the pedestrian walkway (and hanging low).

Ouch!

At this juncture, I was forced to return to my Hotel, to search for an ice pack and a quiet place to plunk myself down to alleviate a splitting headache that was now starting to throb at the front of my skull.

Let's hope I don't have a concussion!

One complication I don't need in my life just now.

Carl, move that sign out of harm's way, please!

Posh Bagel...San Francisco owners serve up tasty breakwiches! Free WiFi...

Posh @ Embarcadero Centre!

Years ago, when I resided in a small apartment on Flores in West Hollywood, I often strolled down to the Posh Bagel for a tasty breakfast snack.

Although I was inclined to order a bagel with cream cheese - with a few slices of lox - now and then I would also spring for a bagel with egg and cheese.

Yummy!

I have found memories of the low-key eatery which attracted a few celebs being in the heart of WeHo and all!

Shortly after I met Rudi Gernreich outside of his studio one day, I often crossed paths with the genius clothing designer at the Bagel after that (natch).

Shortly after I arrived in San Francisco on this holiday get-a-way, I was delighted - therefore - to stumble across one of the franchise outlets at the Embarcadero Center.

The owners are very down-to-earth friendly people.

One day afer packing up my laptop, and heading out the door, the owner beamed at me as he made a kind gesture.

"Come back tomorrow. We're open at 6 a.m. Plug in and stay all day."

Yes, in addition to whipping up one of the tastiest bagel breakwiches in town, free WiFi is included in the package as well.

Get this (unlike the other cafes that offer up wireless with a purchase) - once a customer keys in the telephone number to gain access - he or she can surf the net without a requirement that the code be inputted again and again ad nauseam.

And, there isn't any pesky interruption (interferring with your busy work schedule as you try to meet a deadline online) because the wireless service here doesn't shut down until you say so!

Hats off to the owners, who underscore just how hospitable and sophisticated business-owners are capable of being, if they have the heart and mind to.

Bless them, too.

Jack-in-the-box...incompetent workers with no common sense or intelligence annoy guests!

I don't know about the rest of you, but I have had it with incompetent unskilled  workers in the employ of fast-food outlets around the country who ruin my day because of their ignorance and flagrant hatred for custtomers who waltz through the doors.

For example, this morning I trekked up to Jack-in-the-box for a light breakfast and a cup of java, and to read the morning newspaper.

First upset?

Imagine an early-morning take-out run by staff who are so clueless,  that they don't even have a pot of hot coffee ready for customers on their way to work, the gym, wherever.

After I ordered a cup, I was forced to wait for five minutes - as my breakfast sandwhich got cold - for the three Latino staffers on duty at the counter to brew up a pot.

But, that was the least of the annoyances.

Shortly after I plunked down at a table - opened the morning daily and started to chow down - a maintenance dude (also Latino) shuffled into the room with a bucket and mop and began to slosh water all over the floor for a quick scrub.

Within seconds, my nostrils were assailed with the stinging fumes from the overly-strong detergent, and I just about threw up.

If that wasn't bad enough, the goon proceeded to wave in my direction - and demand that I get up from my table and move to the other side of the room so he could mop the section I was perched in  - while I was in the middle of my breakfast!

Well, I told him in no uncertain terms, what I thought.

"You should wash the floors before the customers arrive for breakfast.  And no, I am not moving to another table to accomodate your ludicrous notion."

He glared back at me incredulous.

I reminded him further that without customers he would not have a job.

Curiously, when my receipt popped out of the register a few moments earlier, I was personally selected to take part in a survey about the service at that location at Flamingo &  Swenson streets in Las Vegas.

I'll be giving them a piece of my mind, alright.

Because many Americans are suffering right now due to a lack of jobs, I am inclined to suggest that these unskilled unqualified workers at places like Jack-in-the-box,  turn in their aprons and give up their gainful employment to an individual - who will not only appreciate the work - but complete the daily tasks at hand efficiently and with a smile on their face in recognition of a job-well done.

Amen!

This styrofoam dummy more capable that the Latino workers!

McDonald's...putting on airs or feeling economic pinch?

That cherry pie hits the spot, alright!

After an appointment in Eagle Rock on Friday, I popped into McDonald's for a snack.

Imagine my surprise when a young employee sauntered up to me with a tastefully decorated tray in hand and offered me a sample of "cherry pie" speared on a lightweight toothpick.

Did I waltz into Starbucks by mistake?

Two thoughts crossed my mind when the young lady made her pitch.

The fast-food outlet was either putting on airs - or quite simply - struggling to find ways to edge out the competition amidst an economic downturn that appears to be affecting all businesses near and far.

I expect that if McDee's hires a few new employees who speak English (with established communication and people skills) - just maybe - customers will begin to cruise out of the parking lot at the Golden Arches with a smile on their face instead of a bad taste in their mouth.

As Ray Kroc (founder) astutely noted:

"It requires a certain kind of mind to see beauty in a hamburger bun."
