Zsa Zsa Gabor...slips into coma! Legendary celebrity fights for life!

 

Shortly after returning home from a stint at the Ronald Reagan Medical Facility, Zsa Zsa Gabor was rushed back to the hospital suffering from additional medical problems which have allegedly triggered a coma-like condition (according to Prince Frederic von Anhalt).

A feeding tube that was inserted into Ms. Gabor's stomach ended up bleeding and required immediate doctor's care to prevent life-threatening complications.

The legendary celebrity - once married to Hotelier Conrad Hilton - recently licked a nasty bout of pneaumonia.

But, a new medical dilemma now looms on the horizon.

The coma Gabor is now suffering from has resulted in physical complications and difficulty in communicating with her loved ones.

"She doesn't respond," von Anhalt informed the media on Wednesday afternoon

The star of such celebrated films as Orson Welle's - Touch of Evil - is struggling valiantly to overcome her new medical challenges.

The Hungarian-born actress was often a colorful outspoken guest - alongside her two famous sisters - on the talk-show circuit for years.

A few years ago Ms. Gabor gained notoriety when she was stopped for a moving violation - and subsequently - struck a rude (handsome) Beverly Hills Police Officer (in an incident that became known as the "slap" that was heard around the world).

Zsa Zsa's acting performance on screen in Huston's biopic on Toulouse-Lautrec ("Moulin Rouge") earned her rave reviews years ago at the height of her topsy-turvy acting career.

On a humorous note, fans may recall that Gabor also camped it up on the TV sppof - Batman - a couple of decades ago when the weekly serial scored high ratings with the American viewing public.

The pairing of Gabor - and her 9th husband (von Anhalt) - has been a perfect match in view of the fact that both Gabor and von Anhalt are always hungry to be in the glare of the spotlight in spite of the consequences.
 
For example, recently filmgoers were shocked to hear that von Anhalt was seriously considering allowing his wife to become pregnant though seriously ill and 94 years of age.
 
Ms. Gabor's lone child - Francesca Hilton - said it best when quizzed by the press.
 
"Bizarre!"

Hilton Hotel...maids strike in San Francisco! Health benefits dispute!

Tourists and sports fans (in town for a sold-out baseball game at AT & T Park) were forced to gingerly step around employees causing quite an uproar in the bustling streets of downtown San Francisco a hop-and-a-skip from the front lobby of the Hilton Hotel.

Uh-huh!

A year after disgruntled workers first raised picket signs to protest stalled contract talks, the dispute continues to rage on, without any equitable solution in sight.

For good reason.

For example, both sides at the bargaining table have refused to back down on the all-important issue of Health Insurance.

Hotel management has taken the position that providing full coverage to workers - during these tough economic times - would be too great a financial burden on Hilton just now.

In response, representatives for the Hotel workers have pooh-poohed the notion.

In the current round of contentious clashes, Management has felt so pushed to the wall, that they have engaged in a bit of “strike action” themselves.

Turn about is fair play, after all.

In a bid to rustle up some sympathy from the local residents, Management has chastised the striking workers for casting a poll on the tourist industry, and scaring potential business away.

“Angry protests in the streets are creating a bad image for San Francisco. Visitors to the city may be inclined to exclude S.F. from their itineraries in the future until the dispute is resolved,” they’ve lamented in disgust in so many words.

In spite of that, workers have noted their intention to continue with the walk-out and street protest until Tuesday of this week.

One revelation caused me to sit up and take notice, by the way.

Managers noted in one press conference that maids and bartenders are currently racking in at least $50, 000.00 a year!

Just betcha Americans around the country - struggling to pay their mortgages and stay afloat, won’t have much sympathy for these greedy bastards.

Indeed, their outrageous demands for full health insurance coverage is unreasonable - and wild - on its contractual face.

How many residents in the U.S. - without a formal education, no special skills, and an inability to communicate  (many can’t speak English fluently) - are depositing hefty pay checks like that each week drawn on employer bank payroll accounts?

Maybe I’ll take a course in dusting - or a brush up on my mixology skills - and go knocking on Hilton’s personnel door.

After all, years ago I spent one summer working part-time hosting cocktail parties (bartending for upscale Hotel guests tossing soirees in their private suites) at the staid Hotel Vancouver in the  downtown west coast city.

It’s time the Hotel brass showed these ingrates the door in San Francisco, don’t ‘ya think?
Yup.

I’ll drink to that.

Paris Hilton...intruder threatens heiress! Socialite to launch Hotels...

Pretty is as pretty does!

Paris Hilton got a rude awakening yesterday morning when she awoke from a deep sleep to encounter an intruder trying to force his way into her swank West Hollywood digs.

According to the men-in-blue who arrested the demented stalker, he was waving two knives at the heiress, suggesting that he wasn't some idle prowler on the eye-out to rob the startled heiress who was alone in the house.

If you recall, Ms. Hilton was the victim of a "bling" theft ring recently, that  preyed on naive celebrities who were not also so mindful of security when in a par-tay mode.

Although Ms. Hilton has dallied with the reality show circuit in recent days, it is rumored that the pretty high-profile socialite intends to go into the family business.

Uh-huh!

Paris may soon be leaning over some drawing boards, and thumbing over fabrics, to prepare for a construction of a chain of Hotels she intends to launch under the Hilton banner.

As Shakespeare once said:

"I've never seen such a young body with such an old head."

I expect Ms. Hilton will fair well in a tough business where a special magic touch is the key to grasping  the brass ring.

Zsa Zsa Gabor..Paparazzi frenzy during release from Hospital! Eerie Hilton experience!

Amidst a flurry of flash bulbs and prying eyes, the former Queen of the talk-show circuit (famous for being famous) exited the hospital yesterday afternoon and returned home to Bel Air - not by elegant Rolls Royce moving at a fast clip through the tony environs of the exclusive enclave - but by ambulatory vehicle instead.

Ms. Gabor suffered a physical mishap at home a few weeks ago (she allegedly fell out of bed and injured herself while attempting to answer the telephone) which required a hip replacement and a stint at a local medical facility for about four weeks or so.

Currently, Ms. Gabor is on the mend.

When the legendary celebrity was first admitted to the hospital, news of her unexpected misfortune streaked around the globe.

In fact, for a day or so, Gabor found herself in the enviable positon (whether she consciously knew it or not) of  being in a fluctuating trending mode - in a medium somewhat foreign to her - as fans and celebrity gossips monitored every update on her medical condition at popular web-sites such as Yahoo and Twitter.

At that time, I was inclined to post an article on her hospitalization along with a career profile.

Curiously, after mentioning the star's brief marriage to Conrad Hilton, I experienced a sort-of paranormal event which was quite startling.

One evening I was idly watching TV in my hotel room - when the images went out-of-whack - and a ghostly apparition filled the screen.

At this juncture, a distorted voice (a high-pitched frequency is the best way to describe it) from beyond this dimension, appeared to be trying to communicate with me.

For some inexplicable reason, I felt that the Hotelier was reaching out to me in spirit.

That suspicion was later validated (?) when the cable network I was originally viewing - proceeded to broadcast a biography on Conrad Hilton - a short time later!

Star Trek Convention...lands @ Hilton in Vegas! 4 a fan-extravaganza! Shatner to appear!

Fans of Science Fiction are kicking up their heels and spiraling ecstatically out-of-control with sensory overload at the annual Star Trek Convention currently underway at the Hilton Hotel in Las Vegas.

Over 15,000 fans from all over the Universe joined in last year for a non-stop four days of fun which were highlighted by on-stage appearances, partying, autographing and photo ops with 70 great Trek celebrities that appeared in either the original TV series or the big screen versions of the tales of Captain Kirk adapted for the theatre-going public.

Guest Stars expected to mingle with ticket-holders this year include William Shatner (Captain Kirk) and Leonard Nimoy (Spock), Sir Patrick Stewart, Brent Spiner, Eugene "Rod" Roddenberry, Jr., Jonathan Frakes, and a galaxy of many more stars!

San Francisco...Hilton workers walk off job! Angry protest in streets...

I was strolling along the street doing a little window shopping just a short while ago, when I was confronted with an angry mob of Hotel workers protesting in front of the upscale Hilton in downtown San Francisco.

The situation has been bubbling over for while now.

In fact, when I was in town in January, a highly-vocal gang of protestors disrupted the lobby.

Although, the disgruntled employees eventually packed it up kit 'n kaboodle - and headed back into negotiations - it doesn't appear that there is a solution in sight  yet!

In January, I reported Union reps were pushing for continued health care coverage with low co-payments which the Hotel is opposed to.

In fact, Hilton reps have taken  the position that workers in the Bay area should help their end to cover ever-rising costs thrust on the providers in recent days due to the current economic climate around the country.

During that wild and raucous protest, the AFL-CIO President - Richard Trumka - was arrested.

Consequently, the issues were catapulted into the National spotlight.

Corporate giant fights tooth & nail over Health Benefits

There were dozens of unruly arrests - including that of AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka - high-spirited vocal protests with a lot of sign-waving, and a crush of unionzied workers that disrupted business-as-usual in the Hotel's front lobby.

The angry boycott began with a march on congested city streets, boasted eight-hundred workers strong, and ended up a sit-down protest which blocked the front entrance to the upscale Hilton Hotel in downtown San Francisco.

Tired of waiting for exhaustive negotiations to cough up a satisfactory agreement (the previous contracts expired in August) frustrated workers took to the streets on Tuesday to vent their anger (with additional orchestrated walk-outs to follow in a bold-faced effort to get their message across to management).

They're mad as hell and they're not going to take it anymore!

At issue, is a stickling benefit, which neither side appears to want to let up on.

Union reps are pushing for continued health care coverage with low co-payments which the Hotel is opposed to.

Hilton reps take the position that workers in the Bay area should help their end to cover ever-rising costs thrust on the providers in recent days due to the current economic climate around the country..

Meanwhile, tourists are a bit baffled by all the brouhaha, which has taken them by surprise.

Management admits the boycotts have hurt the industry - but - they've refused to budge.

In response, the Union asserts they are not being unreasonable under the circumstances.

In a nutshell, disgruntled union workers argue that profitable corporate Hotel chains can afford to provide the benefits.

AIDS WALK LOS ANGELES...October 19th! Battle not over!

Over the years, events have come and gone.

But, the AIDS walk has been a mainstay.

In fact, in these parts - the Annual AIDS walk, West Hollywood's Halloween Carnival (go figure!) and the Gay Pride Parade have always been the three largest "must-attend" celebrations of the year.

When the epidemic first broke out a couple of decades ago - virtually nothing was known about the disease - except that once a patient displayed symptoms he probably would not survive.

Troubled by inaction on the part of the government - and the frustrations which hindered the medical community - a group of compassionate, dedicated, and capable San Franciscans founded the San Francisco AIDS Foundation in 1982. (SFAF).

It was in this climate of paranoia and uncertainty that SFAF held its first AIDS Walk (originated by 26-year-old Craig Miller) and his newly formed organization of activists in 1985. (MZA Events)

Miller's crusade launched the world’s first successful AIDS Walk in Los Angeles which was followed by another on the eastern seaboard in New York in 1986.

The money raised at that event - and the annual AIDS Walks that have followed - enabled SFAF to engage in critical work and provide services to more than 100,000 men, women, and children living with HIV/AIDS and their families.

A portion of the AIDS Walk proceeds have also been distributed to important AIDS organizations within the Bay Area.

There was a breakthrough in 1986 when scientists isolated the virus that causes AIDS and named it the Human Immune-Deficiency Virus (HIV).

Researchers determined that HIV was transmitted sexually or intravenously from one individual to another - man or woman - gay or straight.

In spite of the urgency for action, HIV remained shrouded in ignorance and bigotry.

Shockingly, the Federal government turned a blind eye and was slow to respond to the crisis!

In the early days, the AIDS walk was mainly comprised of gay men afflicted with the disease, their loved ones, family members, researchers, support groups, and concerned health-care workers.

Over the years, I was personally heartened to witness many jump on the bandwagon - young children from schools learning about compassion and understanding and the need to give a selfless helping hand to others - walkers en masse from the "straight community" - and a host of commercial sponsors.

Biggie corporate supporters today include: Bank of America, Target, Toyota, Disney, and 20th Century Fox.

Today, the AIDS walk is hosted by the Hilton Family.

Seems like a scant few years ago the hint of an HIV infection might result in loss of employment, a shunning by society - and worse - a productive useful life to end in despair and misery without hope!

Today, everyone stands in unison, walking tall and proud.

Thanks to people like Elizabeth Taylor, Craig Miller, and SFAF, who have worked tirelessly over the years to raise funds and end discrimination against the infected.

The stigma is on the way out.

Can the cure be far behind?

I have fond memories of the events.

I've "walked the walk" in Los Angeles on numerous occasions - and in San Francisco, Toronto, and on the West Coast of Vancouver - as well.

In spite of the seriousness of the occasion, there's usually a throng of festive walkers in tow, all in good spirits.

Along the route, there are usually a handful of pit-stops, with plenty to snack on to sustain energy levels.

If you attend this year's walk (October 19th) be sure to snap up the - yogurt, fruit, and thirst-quenching water - to buoy yourself up on the energy-sapping journey to raise consciousness and funds for the sick and needy.

And, take a moment to splash in the "water-misters" scattered along the stretch of the "AIDS HIGHWAY" to stay hydrated and fresh for the joyous celebration at the end of the journey.

And, don't forget your cash, checkbooks, and donations!

After all, funding is still needed for research so that a cure may be found to end the deadly reach of this insidious disease.
