Liberace...Birthday Celebration @ Vegas Museum! Sunday May 16th...

In honor of Liberace’s birthday, the Liberace Foundation and Museum, has slated a day of lively festivities for Sunday May 16th (Las Vegas).

At noon, a fancy-dress birthday cake, will be wheeled out to the strains of the Happy Birthday tune  warbled by Lorraine-Hunt-Bono, Dennis Bono, and Domenick Allen (sure to spark up the annual celebration in honor of the King of the Ivory Keys).

Liberace was the legendary pianist - who conquered the world (and Vegas, in particular) - with his unique brand of dazzling stage entertainment a few decades ago.

For background information and an in-depth profile on “Lee” check out a prior post.

The Tattler...readers college educated with kids! Highest ranked key words Letterman, Las Vegas, Ellen DeGeneres...

Markie-Mark gets hits
Whew!
I can't imagine why

Lusty Lesbo
lures trollettes to site!

Over the past few weeks, for some inexplicable reason, my blog - The Tattler - has catapulted me into the stratosphere with regard to fame!

Everywhere I go these days - whether it's into a chic cafe for a cup of  hot java, strolling down the street mindlessly window-shopping, tooling around town in my shiny black SUV - folks stop and stare when they spy me in their midst.

So, of course, I have to be careful not to unwittingly pick my nose in public, make sure my attire for the day (or evening) is stylish (or at least sparkling clean or pressed to perfection), and endeavour to be all smiles so I don't get a reputation for being off-putting, stuck-up, whatever!

Mere mortals appear to have more of a problem dealing with my fame than little old moi!

Several months ago - folks whispered amongst themselves - is that him?

In more recent days, astonished bystanders tend to stop in their tracks as their eyes go wide, then turn to their friends in disbelief.

"Do you KNOW who that is?"

Perchance, did they assume that I was a mere thumbnail sketch (not a real person) on the Internet - with blood, or  flesh, or bone - to speak of?

Just recently, my high-profile status switched into high gear through no conscious effort of my own!

For example -  if I am dawdling at a cashier's window for a nano-second or two (on the heels of collecting my change) - the quick-on-the-uptake star-struck clerk may be inclined to bid me adieu.

Two simple words ("Thanks, Julian") are sweet nothings to the ears!

I find this an intriguing turn of events - since I don't recall introducing myself to the ball** clerk, let alone patronizing the establishment.

Must have been one of those dark nights of the soul, eh?

On occasion, when I'm in an aisle perusing a delectable array of yummy-looking goodies on the shelves, an employee (or fellow shopper) will sidle up and slyly engage me in a bit of harmless casual conversation

All the while, however, they continue to stare at me with a quizzical look on their stunned faces.

"It's really him," they appear to be saying to themselves just before they pinch their arm for a reality check.

Some gawkers engage in a bit of conduct which is quite disconcerting, though.

Last night at a coffee shop, for instance, I looked up from my newspaper and caught a dazed (and confused) gentleman anchored to the floor staring at me intently!

I expect that if I  bellowed out "boo", he would have toppled over, too.

According to recent stats at blogspot &  http://www.julianayrs.com/  a large percentage of my readers are college-educated.

Great, they "get" it.

But, why the goofy unsophisticated reactions when I'm out painting up the town?

My audience, by the way, is split just about evenly between males and females of the species (with the women edging out the dudes by a smidgen).

The larger percentage have kids in tow, too.

Must be all those sexy publicity stills of actors, athletes, and male models featured prominently on the site that drive the traffic my way.

Speaking of traffic, high-ranking keywords for my sites are "Letterman" (at the height of the breaking news about the scandal with that bimbo babe what's-her-name) and "Mark Wahlberg (triggered by a shower scene post, I expect).

After that, it's a toss up between Twittter (natch, cause I tweet alot), perky talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres (who I often report on and refer to as a lesbo in jest since she's an avid follower), the glitzy city of Las Vegas (due to the ongoing Hotel reviews and what-not I pen posts on ad nauseam), Liberace & Scott Thorson (don't know why, but I'm laughing all the way to the bank), Prince William ( the post about the Prince's royal pee pee which caused such a ruckus in the pond across the sea), and the list goes on.

In the photo (above) sure looks like something's going on down South in the Prince's shorts!

At wordpress, the bulk of my readers hail from America.

Meanwhile, blogspsot and my personal web site (which features naughty insightful racy posts) tend to attract a large number of hits overseas from countries like Greece, India, Brazil, England, etc.

I wonder if anything is lost in the translation?

Liberace...Siegfried & Roy inducted into Hall of Fame in Vegas! Public (& fans) invited to ceremony September 25th...

The Queen of glitter - and the undisputed  Kings of  Lion pampering - will be honored by the University of Nevada "Hall of Fame" tomorrow afternoon (September 25th) at 6:30 p.m.

Fans of Liberace and Siegfeld & Roy will undoubtedly trot down to the Artemus Ham Hall  on campus to join in the fun (free!).

There will also be a VIP reception (after the initial opening ceremonies) for those who pine to meet the celebrated entertainers Siegfeld & Roy in person.

Attendees who cough up a $200 contribution to help raise funds for the organization are invited to the chi-chi after-soiree to mingle and munch on complimentary food and exotic cocktails.

Several months ago, I was inspired to pen a post on the highlights of  Liberace's dazzling career, which also zeroed in on the intriqing private life of the extravagant showman - who chose to not only play the fop - but quip on one hilarious occasion:

"I'm laughing all the way to the bank."

In recent months, it was announced that a bio of the late-great Liberace is in the works to star - believe it! - Michael Douglas.

Well, if he could handle the "War of the Roses", why not the scandalous romantic battles of Liberace?

The "Hall of Fame" was formed to specifically honor residents of  Southern Nevada (in the Vegas metropolis in particular) who have made outstanding contributions to the Arts which include those of a Visual, Performance, or Archictectural nature.

In addition to Liberace and Siegfried & Roy, other honorees named at press time included respected architect William E. Snyder, Patron Bernice Fischer, and former two-term Nevada Governor Lorraine Hunt-Bono.

Each receipient will be gifted a Sidney Award - which was named after the 1st inductee - Director George Sidney.

Liberace...King of Glitter's Museum sight-seer attraction in Vegas!

I was zipping along a busy Vegas street when I spotted the Liberace Museum out of the corner of my eye.

I did a quick u-turn, pulled into the almost-empty parking lot, then screeched to a halt.

Drats!

The Museum wasn't open yet. To make matters worse - all the windows were decorated with a sort of metal lace (Kinky!) - thus preventing any old hapless peeper from getting a whiff of what was tucked away on display inside.

As I plucked up a bottle of water to quench my thirst at the local convenience store across the street (the temperatures have soared in Vegas and revved up the mercury to a sizzling 107 degrees mid-day) the shopkeeper noted that busloads of tourists descend on the museum every day to take a gaggle at the Liberace memorabilia.

The next day, a gossip columnist in the morning daily, noted that Bette Midler (the chanteuse is in town performing on the strip) floated through the museum recently and raved about the fabulous jewels and luxurious furs.

That bit**!

Just kidding, Bette. Luv 'ya, every since I caught you at "The Palace" back in the seventies in New York City!

Years ago, after I first arrived in Hollywood with suitcase in hand, I was attending a chi-chi soiree in the oh-so-chic Hollywood Hills, when a young stud grabbed me by the arm and trotted me over to the edge of the patio.

"See those trees across the canyon? That's where Liberace lives."

We could only imagine what was going on right then and there in Lib's digs.

Having a cucumber facial, perhaps?

Or savoring an invigorating rub-down at the hands of a scrumptuous boy toy in the buff?

But life for Liberace was not always so open and carefree.

In 1956, when Liberace toured England - and subsequently played at the London Palladium - a reviewer at the Daily Mirror hinted that Liberace was a puff (English term for "fag").

The flashy entertainer was so appalled by the published comments, that he was inclined to sue the daily rag for libel.

Some of the mean-spirited comments the columnist levelled at Liberace sparked a lot of controversy at the time.

"He is the summit of sex - the pinnacle of masculine, feminine, and neuter. Everything that he, she and it can ever want," the journalist snidely accused in one segment of the "attack".

Then, as if to substantiate his claims by consensus, he noted for the record:

"I spoke to sad but kindly men on this newspaper who have met every celebrity coming from America for the past 30 years. They say that this deadly, winking, sniggering, snuggling, chromium-plated, scent-impregnated, luminous, quivering, giggling, fruit-flavored, mincing, ice-covered heap of mother love has had the biggest reception and impact on London since Charlie Chaplin arrived at the same station, Waterloo, on September 12,1921."

At this juncture, he launched ahead full throttle in what amounted to an outright character assassination,

"This appalling man - and I use the word appalling in no other than its true sense of terrifying - has hit this country in a way that is as violent as Churchill receiving the cheers on V-E Day."

"He reeks with emetic language that can only make grown men long for a quiet corner, an aspidistra, a handkerchief, and the old heave-ho. Without doubt, he is the biggest sentimental vomit of all time. Slobbering over his mother, winking at his brother, and counting the cash at every second, this superb piece of calculating candy-floss has an answer for every situation."

"There must be something wrong with us that our teenagers longing for sex and our middle aged matrons fed up with sex alike should fall for such a sugary mountain of jingling claptrap wrapped up in such a preposterous clown."

The man had quite the acid tongue, eh?

Needless to say, the lusty diatribe got his di** caught in a wringer!

Liberace sued. And surprisingly - when the case ended in 1959 - the glittering showbiz King was the victor with $8,000.00 pounds sterling bulging out of the rich lining of his pink velvet purse.

Of course, after winning the court litigation, he was inclined to chirp:

"I'm laughing all the way to the bank."

Although Liberace stated on the witness stand that he was not "homosexual" and noted to the Judge that sexual practices of that nature offended society (him too!) - curiously - he ended up in court a couple of decades later under related issues.

Scott Thorson - Liberace's "secretary-cum-chauffeur" - sued for "palimony" in 1982. In that case, Liberace settled out of court, though. Thorson was rumored to have received a settlement of $95,000 in cash, three motor cars (including a Rolls-Royce) and a couple of dogs.

At the time of his death in 1987, Liberace was living in an elegant home where the master bedroom was painted with a re-creation of the Sistine Chapel ceiling, the lawn was centrally heated, and an eye-catching piano-shaped swimming pool beckoned water sports enthusiasts out back.

In his final days, Liberace was known to have lamented,

"No one loves me but the public".

That may have been true.

In spite of a couple of unsavory scandals in his private life - and the whispers about his homosexuality at a time when the gay lifestyle was scorned upon by the public at large - fans adored him anyway.

Do you think the little old blue-haired ladies didn't know he was "queer"?

Impossible. They gracefully looked the other way.

The reason was quite simple.

Liberace not only acted with discretion, but in good taste; likewise, he conducted his affairs in a dignified, classy way.

Arthur Wellesley once said,

"Be discreet in all things, and so render it unnecessary to be mysterious."
