The Sacred Veil...poem by Julian Ayrs

Though
Spirited from this mortal coil
Forgiven by the maker
Lone footprint
Doth remain
To mark existence
beyond
The Sacred Veil

Salvation Army...feeding needy in streets of San Francisco! Worthy charity!

In a News report tail-end of last week, analysts at charitable organizations whined that donations were down in the public sector, with at least one notable exception.

Salvation Army still manages to rustle up millions on behalf of their kettle in the streets "campaign" each holiday season.

The heart-warming concept charms - after all - the touching images are so  "Miracle on 34th Street" and Macy's parade.

Tradition!

One night last week  - I was a little weary around the edges after running myself ragged all day -  when I ran smack dab into a stranger approaching passers-by out-of-the-blue on the dark dank streets.

“Care for something to eat from the Salvation army,“ he barked out sharply, as he thrust two cellophane-wrapped sandwiches in my direction.

Not wishing to chow down on a nourishing lifeline - intended for a needy homeless person - I was inclined to graciously pass.

Even still, the impromptu encounter managed to “feed my head” (as Grace Slick of the Jefferson Starship might succinctly put it) on an evening when I was lost in my own selfish thoughts.

It was heartening to discover first-hand  that charitable organizations such as the Salvation Army are still actively involved in the community and providing a meal (along with a smidgen of hope) to the down-and-out in these troubling economic times.

For this reason, I urge readers to consider writing a check to the “army” of well-meaning do-gooders, since the much-needed funds will surely be well spent.

Conan O'Brien...Jack Nicholson mystery guest? Nov 8th on TBS!

No doubt - there will be a lot of hoopla - when Conan O’Brien launches his cable talk show on TBS November 8th.

Although, it is doubtful the lanky stand-up comic will be able to match the avalanche of good press he rustled up impromptu when he exited NBC amid a storm of controversy, just betcha the zany hilarious comic (with the infectious grin) will roar to the top of the ratings heap opening night.

If the promos for Conan’s new baby are indicative of the hilarity to come - I’ll probably hold up on the channel surfing (normally the norm for moi) - until the last credit crawls to a close on the flat state-of-the-art screen.

On the season opener, Seth Rogan and musician Jack White are slated to flop down on the couch - or some reasonable facsimile thereof - and spout off as they’re egged on by old freckle face.

Other  guests putting in an appearance the first week include  Jack McBrayer, Soundgarden, Jon Hamm, Charlyne Yi, Michael Cera, and Julie Bowen.

Apparently, there will be a surprise "unannounced" guest chosen by fans of the show.

Rumor has it that Jack Nicholson may stop by to toast Conan and his new gab fest.

Break a leg, Conan!

Prince Harry...a hit with Ladies! Film bio...

Rough 'n Tumble Prince!

Imagine being served breakfast in bed by a Prince!

Obviously - a young blond beauty by the name of Camilla Romestrand - was in 7th heaven when that romantic scenario unfolded around her one sleepy morning.

Of course, I am referring to Prince Harry’s spanking-new love interest.

Ms. Romestrand - a musician in the band Eddie the Gun - caught the studly Royal on the rebound.

Shortly after Diana’s youngest boy ended an  on-again off-again relationship of seven years with a South African beauty , he wasted no time hooking up with the attractive stage act.

“He’s the perfect gentleman,” Camilla has gushed to friends.

Gee, where have I heard that name before, Charles?

Do you suppose the Queen will warm up to the idea of a saloon gal for a daughter-in-law in the Palace?

Steve Cooley...Americans for Safe Access to fight City Attorney's bid for office!

It looks like the folks at Americans for Safe Access are out to stick it to Steve Cooley.

In an e-mail addressed to - patients, activists, and friends - ASA staff have put out the call for concerned citizens (who oppose Steve Cooley's upcoming election bid) to contribute some of their valuable spare time to assist in their ongoing crusade against Mr. Cooley.

Regular readers of  the Tattler may recall that I attended protests in front of FBI Headquarters in downtown Los Angeles last year - when Federal agents engaged in para-military-style raids on pot dispensaries - which Mr. Cooley condoned.

Governor Schwarzenegger tokes:

http://ijulian.blogspot.com/2010/02/marijuana-ballot-measure-to-legalize.html

As you are no doubt aware, Steve Cooley is running for the post of Attorney General.

Because of his staunch stance against the medical use of marijuana, ASA members are campaigning to thwart his political aspirations by fervently distributing - NotCooley- flyers throughout the State of California.

Ultimately, it is ASA's objective to run interference in Cooley's bid for highest-ranking Law Enforcemen official.

ASA is urging  interested parties to get involved now - with the ultimate aim - of spreading the word about Steve Cooley.

In sum, ASA is suggesting that volunteers visit one or more dispensaries in their  area (or other public places) and fervently distribute a raft of - NotCooley - materials.

Lindsay Lohan...trots back to rehab! Slammer eludes fallen star!

As curious onlookers gazed on, a Superior Court Judge ordered an emotional teary-eyed Lindsay Lohan back to rehab at the Betty Ford Center, until the first week of January.

When the verdict was first read, the once-drug-addled starlet broke down and sobbed.

Then, the high-profile celeb managed to utter up a breathy "thank you" to the Jurist presiding over the proceedings.

Once again, Ms. Lohan escaped the clutches of the local jailer.

The prosecutor recommended a six-month jail term as penalty for her failure to pass a drug test several weeks ago, which the bench-warmer presiding over the proceedings wisely rejected.

But, Ms. Lohan did not escape the court's wrath entirely.

Judge Eden Fox cautioned the troubled starlet to refrain from engaging in manipulative tactics in the future.

"I'm giving you one final chance to stay clean," Eden noted for the record.

“You’re staying past the New Year’s - there’s a reason for that,” Fox quipped.

Lohan is due back in court on February 25.
