Justin Timberlake...can he save MySpace from blogosphere oblivion?

The startling news that MySpace was sold for $35 Million to a little-known digital firm based in Irvine - known as Specific Media -  came as quite a shocker yesterday afternoon!

After all, in its heyday - Parent News Corporation (headed up by high-flying Rupert Murdoch) - once paid a whopping $580 million to get into the MySpace social-hub game a scant few years ago.

When Murdoch first negotiated the transaction (2005), MySpace was the fifth-most popular destination for web surfers on the net (a sure thing?) who were attracted to the glittering array of cutting-edge musical artists packing a wallop within the delicious confines within the site.

And, by 2007, MySpace was catapulted into the blogosphere to become the leading social network boasting 100 million users strong each month.

Staggering success at first blush, eh?

But, by October 2008 the axis of the musical universe went tilt up.

Since that time, the trendy mainstay on the Internet slowly began to slip, then eventually lost its grip.

Then, MySpace earnings dipped this past year to $184 million, to clearly signal a death knell.

So, it came as no surprise to industry-insiders when the word came down from on-high to "dump".

On the heels of the surprising purchase, there was still an optimistic note resonating (crying out?) at the MySpace site, though.

When Specific Media announced that Justin Timberlake had been brought on board to help salvage MySpace, a buzz streaked across the blogosphere because there was cause for celebration.

The Pop Icon - who negotiated a financial stake in MySpace with the new owners - is pretty upbeat about the social hub's latest incarnation (and chances for a full recovery).

"There's a need for a place where fans can go to interact with their favorite entertainers, listen to music, watch videos, share and discover cool stuff, and just connect. MySpace has the potential to be that place," Justin underscored in a recent press release the past 24/7."

You betcha!

Justin, wanna be my friend?

Jack Black...ecstatic over Kung Fu Panda! Deep family storyline appealed to actor!

Ever since Jack Black became a friend on MySpace, I haven't had much of an opportunity to give the comic a plug.

What are friends for, after all?

That all changed when it was announced that Kung Fu Panda 2 was slated for release in theatres countrywide this week.

With Jack making the rounds of the talk-show circuit there is much to gab about.

For starters, Mr. Black is thrilled with the outcome of the much-anticipated big-budget studio flick.

"I am so proud of this Kung Fu Panda. After all, long after I am gone, it will still be entertaining people," he proudly noted to one interviewer on a morning talk show.

How much of Jack is in the Panda character he plays?

"About ninety-percent. I left about ten percent to use for other roles."

At one point, Meredith Viera tried to stir up a bit of controversy in one interview when she posed a question which caused a little tension on the studio set when it first zinged off her lips.

"I interviewed Angelie in Cannes. She said that she had to go back into the studio to redo lines because you changed a lot of them in your studio session."

The camera panned over to Jack in time to catch an awkward look which flickered across his face for a second or two.

Say what?

"Is that okay?" Viera probed further in - what appeared to be - a shame-faced effort to seize the moment and make an issue of his acting "style".

"Well, yeah. I think so," Jack responded, as a polite look of astonishment visibly crossed his lovable mug.

Of course it is, Meredith!

When a director hires on a talent to work on a project, he or she has to be mindful of the fact that every actor approaches his craft differently.

It is a given that they - not only be ready to accommodate the "gift" - but be prepared to work with it in a unique straightforward hands-on way to flesh the talent out.

It is one of the quirks of "creativity".

In some cases, performers get a handle on their work by extraordinary methods, but that is the nature of the beast (in this case, the Panda).

Jack went on to point out that because the studio work was all "voice-over", it was a golden opportunity to focus on the true essence of the character, play up the nuances - and ultimately - find the heart of it.

"So, you try things in many different ways, take some risks."

A good director gives an actor a lot of leeway in that respect and only reins in "the talent" when necessary for the overall project's sake.

Jack pointed out that part of the reason he signed on for the sequel is because the storyline deals with deeper issues in respect to parenting and family.

Apparently, the film has an underlying message, and is not all comical fluff with slick special effects geared towards dazzling the filmgoers.

The children at the school where Black's kids attend were all treated to a sneak preview.

"They loved it," he gushed enthusiastically.

Now, let's wait and see what the critics have so say, eh?

I plan to catch it over the weekend.

See 'ya there!

Julian Ayrs...Internet site Badoo pimping for me! Pays to Google yourself!

Photos of Julian

What a hoot!

Today, I was searching the Internet, when I stumbled on a dating site that mentioned moi!

When I clicked on the link, I was magically whisked to a dating site, that hooks singles up.

Uh-huh!

The webmaster hi-jacked my photograph from MySpace and signed me up without my knowledge or permission.

Now, I am a sought-after bachelor in cruise mode on the world-wide-web, I guess.

The date meisters were even thoughtful enough to cast a wide hook out for me.

Apparently, I am seeking a female 31 - 50 years of age.

Yeah, luv those old cougars, dudes!

For good times and sizzling hot sex between-the-sheets I gather!

And, get this, there appears to be over 3 million members to choose from at the Badoo site!

If you want my stats, though - gee whiz - you're going to have to sign up for the "free"dating service.

Gosh, I feel like bait, a piece of meat!

A poster boy for forty-something studs on the prowl.

Well, good thing I was in a horny mood today - and chose to google myself - or I would never have clued into the fact that I am among the ranks of the most sought after commodity in the enterprising (and romantic) coupling trade.

Just betcha, a Royal betrothal is my cards, too!

For a "Best Man" - either Wills or randy Prince Harry - will do.

I wonder if I will get a percentage of the spoils, royalties, and that sort-of-thing?

Or, do I have to take it out in flesh, or by trade?

MySpace...friends Ryan Seacrest & actress Nicole Kidman still active on social hub!

Nicole Best-Dressed beauty!

I confess that I am not always on top of things at MySpace.

Mind you, when I spy those mugs smiling back at me on my home page when I check in now and then at whim, it is always quite a mood-lifting experience.

So, today - when I logged in to update my profile - a couple of “friend” requests were a welcome sight.

In fact, I chuckled out loud when I first caught a glimpse of DJ Ryan Seacrest’s lovable grin, because I’ve always been a fan of the quirky good-looking talent who brims with personality, though I have often poked fun in posts when reviewing his high-profile appearances on American Idol this season and last.

What can I say, I’m an entertainment critic, after all!

By the way Ryan - when I have a moment - I’ll boost you up to the front of the line on page one!

Nicole Kidman (a fine actress I admire) - who I have included on my best-dressed list in recent years - fired off a friend request about seventeen hours ago (according to the MySpace staff).

Sorry, for the delay in responding Nicole, but travel and work commitments have kept me out-of-the-loop!

Meanwhile, it’s important to note to all my readers, that the MySpace site has been revamped somewhat since I last checked in.

In fact, new features kept me delightfully exploring the overhauled social hub, that some may have assumed had fallen by the wayside in the wake of the recent popularity of twitter & facebook.

In parting for now, take note - dear friends - I promise to keep abreast (with the specific aim of avoiding neglect) in upcoming weeks.

By the way, folks - you can always Tweet me - if ‘ya like!

Ru Paul...Drag Race! Addictive and downright fit for a Queen!

Monday night I was  trekking up Santa Monica when I spied an effervescent flock of gay dudes whooping it up at Mickey's Nightclub.

For the beginning of the week - even in WeHo - it was  quite a turn out at a local watering hole.

As I approached the recently-decorated nightclub (it mysteriously went up in flames last year) I suddenly caught site of a smattering  of high-tech screens sprinkled strategically about the popular hang-out for maximum viewing capability.

All eyes were focused on a gaggle of giggling females (Drag Queens) exuberantly sashaying about on screen this way 'n that.

OMG!

The highly touted  "Ru Paul Drag Race" was being broadcast coast to coast on Logo TV.com (and I was missing it).

For those completely in the dark (or in the closet) Drag Race is the Pop Icon's spanking (emphasis here) new tongue-in-check (wrong choice of phrases?) entertainment offering.

Ru Paul is a friend on myspace, so I suppose I'd better whip up a promo before I get a bitch lashing!

Frankly, I don't know how I missed the broadcast; after all, when I was in San Francisco last week -  billboards advertising the Logo comedy - were everywhere high and low (even at bus  shelters).

If  I am not mistaken, it's kind of a search for the top model, but with a delicious transexual twist!

Needless to say, I plan to tune in Monday Night (9/8c) - and if suitably jolted -  may even be inspired to rustle up a review.

Entertainment weekly warned it is incredibly addictive so I expect there will be a lot to crow - um - hen about.

Zombie Strippers...great - um - stocking stuffer!

One of my new friends on MYSPACE is Brad Milne, an actor - who plays a maniacal character by the name of Dr. Cushfield in the feature - Zombie Strippers - a new DVD release.

I took a gander at a bit of the footage earlier this afternoon.

What a hoot!

If you're looking for a low-brow entertaining stocking stuffer for a dude or two that are difficult to pin down in the swag department, the offbeat thriller may just be the ticket.

MySpace...harem! Bodacious Bevy of Babes pretty up site.

Through some curious phenomenon, a bevy of bodacious babes have been posting requests to be my "friend" over the past couple of weeks on my profile at MySpace.

Gosh, they're all pretty and curvy and beckoning from afar.

How can I resist?

Without much ado, I usually stroke the "approve" button - at which point - in a flourish of silk, tender flesh, and flimsy undergarments, the seductive sirens sashay onto the site and sidle up to my regular cast of tried-and-true friends.

Sadly, on occasion, a sultry-looking lady is denied entry to my secret lair. In that rare instance, it's usually because a smoldering siren has uploaded a provocative still a little too on-the-edge of soft-porno, for a site I still bill as family entertainment fare.

At my blog, savvy surfers can view an animated video, guffaw at a political jibe, or peruse a movie review to fathom if the release is worth plunking down 10 bucks a head (popcorn and soda extra).

Curiously, after a few days, the harem girls slip away into the starry night - if only for an hour or two. Then, without warning, requests from a whole new batch of bodacious babes sizzle into my mailbox for another scintillating round of titillating visual theatrics.

It just occurred to me today - duh, I'm slow on the uptake, I guess - that perchance the seductresses have been pining for a little afternoon delight.

Any takers?

I prefer lovemaking when the moon is full and the passions run high just around midnight!
