Roman Polanski...set free! Swiss authorities reject Steve Cooley's bid for return to U.S.

Roman Polanski is a free man!

At the crack-of-dawn, it was announced that the Swiss Government - until now holding the beleaugered film director by virtue of "house arrest" pending a ruling on legal issues - rejected a U.S. bid from the District Attorney's office to extradite Mr. Polanski on a charge of having sex in 1977 with a 13-year-old girl in respect to a decades-old case.

A source close to the proceedings confided that the Judges presiding over the proceedings mostly blamed U.S. authorities for failing to provide confidential testimony about Polanski's sentencing procedure in 1977-1978 to bolster their arguments in support of the deportation to face "Justice" in America.

Specifically, a formal request for testimony by one Roger Gunson (who headed up the prosecution when it was first initiated) was cited as an example.

Whether Steve Cooley (District Attorney) will drop future efforts to persist with criminal action remains to be seen.

On the heels of the decision, Justice Minister Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf noted in no uncertain terms:

"Mr. Polanski can now move freely. Since 12:30 today he's a free man."

Roman Polanski...News alert! Officials to rule on whether to extradite!

Well, it's been a long haul for everyone involved!

But, Officials have finally spilled the beans.

Over the weekend, it was announced that the Swiss court will rule on the Polanski case in the near future.

At issue, of course, is whether the court has the authority to grant a request by Law Enforcement in California, to extradite fugitive Polanski to these shores to face the music at long last in respect to a decades-old rape charge.

Steve Cooley...responds to my letters! Typical snake in the legal profession...

At long last, Steve Cooley (District Attorney pining for loftier climbs on the political landscape) responded to two letters I fired off by U.S. post weeks ago (one by certified mail obviously got his attention).

Cooley finally got off his fat a** - and the campaign trail - long enough to earn part of the check he draws from the City's coffers each week.

It wasn't until I published an expose on the District Attorney's office that the self-serving DA bothered to give me the courtesy of a reply.

Maybe all the comments on the post uttered up by his enemies was starting to make Cooley nervous?

Initially, I contacted Mr. Cooley to inform him about incompetent staff at the DA's office, intimidation tactics (employees in the DA's office have been twisting arms to extract money from victims under threat of prosecution), a refusal by staff to correct records when the true facts and evidence are submitted to the DA's office, a conspiracy to cover-up worker miscoduct, etc.

In essence, citizens are being victimized by power-mad lawyers looking to move up in the DA's office..

Mr. Cooley's response was typical of a lawyer in that it was brimming with lies and deceit, vigorous attempts to twist the facts (to his advantage), rife with legal hokus-pokus and distortions of the truth, and shameful posturing calculated to save his own a**.

Typical of these sharks (the attorneys who wear the black hats) Mr. Cooley side-stepped the issues which would have landed him on dangerous ground.

Of course, these issues related to the criminal conduct of his staff.

I guess he didn't want to leave any smoking guns lying around.

Also, he failed to address the issue of his staff ignoring my letters, and engaging in threatening and harassing conduct, which may warrant investigation by the FBI.

Cooley couldn't utter up one word in his staff's defense.

Why?

Because in view of the evidence in my possession, there is no way out for his employees.

The arguments he presented on a couple of other matters demonstrated to me that Mr. Cooley does not have a "head" for Law (or anything else for that matter).

His flimsy excuses - and attempts to wash away the truth - was a ludicrous smoke-and-mirrors trick to scare me off.

As Judge Judy would say:

"Do I have stupid written on my forehead?"

A snake should be tattoed on Mr. Cooley's.

On June 7th a response letter was mailed to Cooley by U.S. Post (witnessed by a 3rd party).

I'll keep readers posted on Cooley's continued efforts to protect his staff and corrupt the system.

Roman Polanski's...allegations about Steve Cooley true! DA engages in extortion attempts, Intimidation Tactics, Harassment, & Rights Violations!

Corrupt District Attorney Steve Cooley!

Today, the news wires were all awash with a statement Roman Romanski released in his first public overture, since the beleaugered director was first apprehended several months ago in respect to a controversial ongoing rape trial.

Good friend, Bernard-Henri Levi, published the comments on his web site over the weekend.

In his defense, the diminuitive auteur (Rosemary's Baby) argued that the case was unjust because of alleged discrepancies in the original court proceedings many moons ago.

In addition, Mr. Polaaski pointed an accusing finger at Steve Cooley in the Los Angeles DA's office.

Polanski alleges that Cooley's motives are not in sync with the official duties of his office (to seek Justice and uphold the Law) but rather, selfishly geared towards feathering his own nest.

The aging Lothario has accused Cooley of using his rape case to bolster his profile in the political arena - with the ultimate aim - of catapulting himself into higher office in the upcoming election.

"He needs media publicity," Polanski asserted for the record.

Well, I haven't reviewed all the court documents, so it would not be appropriate for me to comment on the alleged discrepancies in the lower court proceedings which transpired a couple of decades ago in Los Angeles.

However, from my own experience in recent weeks - and based on documentary evidence in my possesion under lock-and-key - Mr. Cooley and his staff have consistently ignored  State & Federal Statutes, engaged in intimidation tactics, attempted to extort monies from innocent ciizens, Violated Rights of Citizens, and participated in cover-ups and conspiracies with the ultimate aim of protecting their own selfish, dishonest, illegal interests.

At that time, I fired off a written communication to Mr. Cooley by U.S. Post with a request that he respond to the allegations.

As of this date, the chicken-sh**  has not only failed to provide a defense, but hasn't even given me the courtesy of a reply.

Why?

Because the allegations are true!

Mr. Cooley, I am a taxpayer and a resident of this great Nation; therefore, I am entitled to a response.

You work for me, Sir.

And, the other voters of this fine city.

Did you forget that when you took office you took an oath to uphold the law and seek Justice for all?

Notwithstanding, because you drawa check from the public coffers, you are required to fulfill all the duties of office - including, but not limited to - answering the concerns of its residents.

Because you have been derelict in your duty, and egaged in disreputable illegal criminal conduct, I shall seek a formal investigation into the affairs of your office!

For the record, I can not support you in your bid for office in the next election.

And, I wholeheartedly urge voters, to oust you from the DA's office.

You're a dead-weight taken up valuable space.

Roman Polanski...2nd Appellate court denies appeal! Final chapter of drama on horizon...

Yesterday - with a minimum amount of fuss - the 2nd Appellate Court dismissed Roman Polanski's bid to end his long drawn-out sex case on the grounds of Judicial misconduct and lower-court error.

Polanski's highly-irregular request to be sentenced in absentia was also denied.

The Justices in the Appeals court - located in downtown Los Angeles - issued up their ruling without a formal opinion to back it up (which tends to suggest the bench-warmers found little merit in the arguments submitted by the beleaugered film director's lawyers a scant few weeks ago).

Samantha Geimer, the victim at the center of the controversial criminal proceeding, also filed a motion with the Justices for a dismissal in recent weeks.

Unfortunately for Polanski, her pleadings lacked the bite necessary to sway the minds of the Jurists.

Now that the issue has been resolved on these shores, all eyes are on Swiss authorities, who held back on extradition proceedings pending a decision from the California Judiciary.

Polanski was indicted on six felony counts which included rape by use of drugs, child molestation,  and sodomy.

He later pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful sexual intercourse.

The District Attorney's response was short and sweet.

"The appellate court read the briefs and made what we feel is the appropriate decision,"  spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons said in a prepared statement.

Gibbons noted there would be  no further comment from the DA's office.

Roman Polanski...extradition on hold 'til California Courts show hand!

The Roman Polanski fiasco continues along at a snail's pace.

According to a spokesman, the Swiss courts will not rule on the issue of Polanski's extradition to the U.S. to face the music in Los Angeles, until California Appellate Justices rule on the question of the legality of a sentencing in abstentia.

In the event the U.S. Court rules in favor of a hearing in abstentia - and Polanski ends up facing less than six months behind bars, Swiss officials have noted for the record that they will not turn the aging Lothario over to authorities on these shores.

On the other hand, if the ruling does not pan out favorably for the respected film director, his lawyers will undoubtedly exhaust all legal options available ad nauseam (which is his right, of course).

In the final analysis, Polanski is wasting precious judicial resource, and stalling and delaying the inevitable either way.

Ghost Writer...Polanski's mediocre thriller! Ewan McGregor steals film...

Polanski's much-anticipated  "Ghost Writer" is hardly a taut thriller - and - no wonder!

After all, the beleaugered film director (currently under house arrest in Switzerland) has drawn out the plotline for this dicey potboiler so sparsely (pedestrian-style) over a two-hour stretch that it lacks any tension to sustain any suspense save for a nano-second or two.

When those precious moments strike out and touch the audienc - the edge-of-your seat peaks are usually triggered by the remarkable efforts of one lone soul - Ewan McGregor (and not because of any magic wand or dazzling wizardy dredged up by the once-celebrated director who is now in a decline in respect to his creative and once-insightful vision).

Judging by the "look" and "feel" of  "Ghost Writer" - it's evident that Polanski took a stab at a project he half-expected to drum up phenomenal commercial success in order to pad his bank account.

To pay off his victim in the rape case, perhaps?

While the big-budget feature appeals to the eye with - breathtaking cinematography, stunning backdrops, and set-ups that seduce even the most sophisticated folks - beneath the slick manipulative surface Polanski's latest whodunit falls flat (is empty).

Part of the reason is due to the fact there is nothing original here.

Basically, "Ghost" is a tale about moles and CIA agents and a whole gang of ne'er-do-wells we've seen on the wide screen ad nauseam in recent years at a time when terrorism and national security have prompted writers and studio heads to fathom up yarns to mirror the truth because of the shock (oh my gosh, not in America) value.

Mind you, quality spy films generally sell tickets, provided they're deliciously well-crafted.

Here, Polanski's directing is safe, almost laughable.

The term "hack" is applicable.

The old dawg has drifted far from the maverick days from whence virile powers once sprang - and subsequently carved a niche for the French auteur - in Hollywood's golden filmmaking circles.

Ewan McGregor (bare a** and all) saved the day in many respects for a multitude of innocent  fans who obviously stumbled into the theatre clueless after having been deceitfully lured in by virtue of an enticing film promotion that tricked 'em.

McGregor is worth the price of admission alone.

As to the rest of the cast - well - same old same old.

Once the word gets out about this disappointing political espionage clunker, I expect attendance will drop off dramatically.

Berlin Film Festival...Leonardo DiCaprio attends debut! Ewan McGregor trots for Polanski's "Ghost Writer"...

Shutter Island a big fat flop?

In the wake of the controversy over Polanski's incarceration (and legal wrangling ongoing in the courts) industry-insiders have been biting their nails in the aftermath and wondering what to expect at the world premiere of the outcast's new release - "The Ghost Writer" - slated to be unveiled at the Berlin Festival.

Ewan McGregor and Pierce Brosnan are expected to trot the red carpet, nonetheless, scattering a little stardust in their midst.

Leonard Di Caprio will be the big draw, however, with Martin Scorsese in tow for their offering.

Unfortunately, the previews I spied at a local theatre for their latest project - Shutter Island - spelled trouble in my estimation.

We'll see!

The organizers who hand out the prestigious "Golden Bear" award each year to deserving candidates in filmdom's artistic fields of endeavour have announced that twenty features will compete for the coveted prize.

Werner Hertzog will be one of many capable jurists bestowing the honors.

The festival runs from February 11 thru February 22.

On the splashy opening night - "Apart Together" - will screen to enthusiastic audiences.

Not surprising, since director Wang Quan'an won a Golden Bear in the past  for Tuya's Marriage (2007).
The Berlin Film Festival, also known as the Berlinale, is one of the world's leading film festivals and most distinguished media events.

It is held in Berlin and has been celebrated annually since 1978.

Tickets sold to date confirm that is the largest publicly-attended film festival worldwide.

Up to 400 films are shown in several sections representing comprehensive facets of  the cinema.

In addition to the aforementioned attendees, Gerard Depardieu will honor the fest with his formidable talents, when he graces the silver screen  in a film directed by Thomas Vinterberg (Danish).

The rallying around the globe, in what amounted to a high-profile tennis match between two nasty rivals, is about to land with a giant thud in Superior Court for the final set.

With a deaf ear to the 2nd Appellate Court ruling - "suggesting the case be heard in abstentia" - Judge Espinoza (who has been handling the litigation this time around on the three-decades old case) issued a finding that Roman Polanski is required  to return to the big bad orange to be sentenced.

Is the bench-warmer thumbing his nose at the Justices?

The paparazzi must have been snooping around the Sheen case, 'cause they were slow on the uptake.

The judge made it crystal clear in a directive (no one got a whiff of) that the creative vision behind the soon-to-be released feature - GHOSTS - has to surrender to the U.S. Courts.

Based on the tone of the Judge's ruling, will the Swiss authorities kow-tow, too?

In the event Polanski's attorneys follow through on a threatened appeal, court enthusiasts may be treated to front-row seats in asizzling round of ping-pong that may include a "go" in a higher court where the stakes may be heightened somewhat

In a defiant move to make her voice heard - and likewise embarrass the City Attorney's office - victim Samantha Geimer filed searing affidavits with the Superior Court accusing the prosecutors of Violating victim's rights statutes.

Geimer is lamenting to anyone within earshot that she should have been interviewed to determine her feelings on the issue, before hatching the plot for Law Enforcement to stalk, arrest, and haul the talented director off to the U.S. to face sentencing.

In legal briefs, her attorney cited "Marsy's Law" which was passed by ballot initiative in 2008.

Pursuant to the measure, Lawyers are mandated to reasonably confer with the prosecuting agency, upon request, regarding the determination of the case.

"Didn't happen," accused Geimer's legal eagles.

In a response, the prosecutor's office one-upped them!

They noted for the record that numerous attempts were made, but insisted the communications were ignored.

In addition, the representative in charge pointed an accusing finger at Geimer and argued that the victim was  twisting the statute to benefit Polanski (who made a money-damage agreement with the object of his desire after-the-fact).

Roman Polanski...requests trial in abstentia! Appellate Court's suggestion followed...

The dark side of Polanski!

Well, the suspense just about killed all the intrigued onlookers and even cynics who snickered on the sidelines in the shadows.

With the announcement hitting news wires this afternoon - that Roman Polanski has requested a trial by abstentia - it appears there may eventually be closure on the three-decades-old rape case.

Maybe not.

If the outcome requires jail time, will the beleaguered auteur agree to bow his head gracefully, and allow himself to be turned over to the authorities in Los Angeles for incarceration?

First things first, though.

Although Polanski's formal request to the court was dated last month on December 29th, the Judge presiding over the case currently, noted for the record that there would have to be a preliminary hearing first to determine the status of the case.

Not unlike most bench-warmers, Judge Espinoza is probably put-off at being raked over the coals by the Appellate Court Justices.

For obvious reasons, Espinoza is going to take his own sweet time to get it right this round!

If you read between the lines, the response from the Superior Court's Criminal Division, may be a tip-off.

A spokesperson succinctly noted to the defense lawyers that the proposal offered up by the Justices in the 2nd Appellate Court was just "a suggestion" and "certainly wasn't a directive."

Roman Polanski....mum on trial in abstentia! Thanks supporters amidst clanging ankle chain...

For the first time since his arrest several weeks ago, Roman Polanski has broken his silence, and reached out to his supporters.

The director, currently under house-arrest in Switzerland awaiting possible extradition to the U.S. to face sentencing for rape charges, facilitated the web site of a friend and confidante (Bernard-Henri Levy) yesterday to thank a posse of friends, fans, and business associates for sticking by him during a traumatic rough patch in his life (triggered by his recent arrest in Switzerland).

Polanski, however, was mum about the recent court proceedings in the 2nd Appellate Court.

For good reason!

Neither he nor his lawyers - the prosecutors even - appeared to be too thrilled with the decision handed down by the Justices in the Court of Appeal.

If you recall, the celebrated film director sought to overturn a lower-court ruling in recent days which denied his motion to dismiss the rape case outright on grounds of judicial and prosecutorial misconduct when the case was first tried about three decades ago.

In sum, the prosecutor's office vigorously argued that binding legal precedents dictated that Polanski was barred from the relief he sought because he fled the court's jurisdiction rather than face sentencing a handful of years ago.

Surprisingly - the Justices seized on another argument that was even more compelling - which won out  in the end.

The court acknowledged there was some credence to Polanski's claims of unfair treatment and judicial misconduct - and recommended therefore - that the incarcerated director urge the court to hear the matter in abstentia (without the necessity of his presence at the U.S. Court hearing) to resolve the dangling dilemmas plaguing the final resolution of the case issues.

In the event Polanski opts to go the route recommended by the Justices, he is required to pen a letter to the court of jurisdiction, and request that the case go foward in his absence.

In view of the director's failure to respond to date, it would appear he is either reluctant to seek that option, or just weighing his options before taking action.

Roman Polanski...Justices review age-old law to determine entitlement to dismissal!

Free the coerced felons!

Attorneys pitching for the dismissal of the Polanski case are awaiting a decision from the 2nd Appellate Court (Appeals) on a couple of  legal fine points.

Specifically, the high-profile barristers argued in their briefs that a Los Angeles Superior Court Judge erred when he denied a motion to dismiss Polanski's criminal case in recent days.

The director's legal eagles convinced the Judge in the lower court (Judge Peter Espinoza) that there had been substantial misconduct during the course of Polanski's trial.

But, in the end scenario, the circumspect jurist threw up his hands in frustration - and summarily denied the motion - because he felt his hands were tied.

In denying the moving papers, the bench-warmer noted that he was bound by legal precedent, and on the grounds of fugitive disentitlement.

The Judge was relying on an old doctrine that dates back to the 1800s which stipulates - in essence - that defendants who flout the law by fleeing a jurisdiction cannot then call upon the court after-the-fact for help.

On the heels of the ruling, Polanski's lawyers filed an appeal on the issue, which is subject matter of the higher court's review.

The Justices agreed to take the case (many are denied review for a myriad of reasons) and proceeded to order the lower court to explain its ruling, the basis for the decision, and so forth and so on.

Yesterday afteroon, pursuant to Appellate Court procedure, both parties (defendant's lawyers & the prosecutor's legal team) appeared at an "Oral Argument" where they were asked to clarify the issues verbally.

The Polanski counsel didn't mince words.

They forcefully reiterated that Judge Laurence J. Rittenband (the Judge in the original rape case about three decades ago) improperly held discussions with the prosecutor about how to punish the film director.

The lawyer also drew attention to the alleged misconduct of Rittenband.

Polanski's reps argued at the hearing that he crossed the line when he threatened to lock up Polanski  for a longer period if his attorney challenged his decision.

Sounds like judicial misconduct to moi!

But the proper forum for that charge to be addressed is at the Commission on Judicial Performance (based in San Francisco).

Because the alleged prosecutorial and judicial misconduct was so "alarming" (in their opinion), they urged the Justices to overturn the lower court ruling denying the motion to dismiss because the issues go beyond the Polanski case.

In a nutshell, the legal experts maintained that it was imperative the 2nd Appellate Court take action in the interests of maintaining the integrity of the state criminal justice system

Meanwhile,  the opposing side scoffed at a legal notion they viewed as a dishonest underhanded attempt to free Polanski at any cost.

In a brief (filed with the court prior to oral argument) the city prosecutor stressed that Polanski's allegations of wrongdoing in the legal system were matters of convenience for the desperate film director.

"It is not his desire to have the case formally end because of concerns for the integrity of the judicial system. His ultimate goal is to have the case dismissed," they argued quite vigorously.

Although Polanski's lawyers may be grasping at straws, in the final analysis, they're just doing their job.

In the final analysis, it will all boil down to who is "on point", and a proper interpretation of the law.

Several days ago, many eyebrows were raised when it was announced that Swiss Officials were seriously considering allowing Roman Polanski - a known flight risk - to go free on bail.

Of course, with one big catch!

The diminuitive auteur would be required to not only proffer up a bond to secure a pricey piece of real estate to guarantee his release - but also - drape a fashionable reality-show-style steel bracelet on one hairy leg!

Uh-huh!

When the going gets tough, the tough get going, and offer up big bucks!

Now, that's the universal language that appeals to the Swiss, who have long profitted from intrigues in respect to cold hard cash!

Just ask the Nazis, the drug cartels, and notorious tax evaders.

Those Swish Swiss dudes are a piece of work, aren't they?

Allegedly, the Polanski get out of jail - not-for-free deal - was "consummated" last week, but a couple of bond snafus (rustling up moolah to secure it, for starters) hindered the rapist's immediate release.

Even still, Polanski went for a fitting yesterday for his novelty bracelet, and everything went like clockwork.

The Swiss, who were originally reticent about drawing the ire of American Legal Eagles across the big sea, have since taken the position (to save face, publicly, at least) that things have changed dramatically since the director first fled the court's jurisdiction many "dark nights of the soul" ago.

"He's a mature man now, with a family to consider," one official argued in so many words.

And so, it blows!

Are the bookies in Vegas betting big-time that Polanski will eventually fly the coop?

Roman Polanski...victim's cry for finality untimely! Sex offenders required to report...

The victim who may have lost her virginity (?) to rogue director Roman Polanski (after being plied with drugs and alcohol) complained to the court in a legal proceeding a scant few days ago that ever since the diminutive creator of blockbuster hits such as "Rosemary's Baby" and "Chinatown" was apprehended - she has also been the "victim" of a frenzied press - who won't let up in their relentless pursuit of the truth.

"Enough," she has cried out to all within earshot.

According to the moving papers, the victim is pleading for "finality" in respect to the Polanski "cold file" case, so that she and her husband (and Polanski, presumably) can get on with their sordid lives.

I should like to point out for the record that in my own reports on the disturbing affair (People vs. Roman Polanski) I have never mentioned the victim's name or even published a publicity still to tag onto the features (most news outlets were inclined to).

In fact, when all the titillating salacious details started to leak out over the past few weeks, I made a pact with inner demons to protect the privacy of the victim (to a degree).

However, because the woman in question filed a civil suit (and prevailed in the action in respect to a money-judgment award) she may have sealed her own fate and - ultimately - is responsible for the grief complained of today.

It can be argued that the victim is surely witin her rights to request a dismissal of the Polanski case - especially in view of the fact she appears to be at peace with the naughty film director - who has not even expressed a modicum of remorse to date (that I am aware of).



Does a big-bucks settlement negotiated behind-the-scenes have anything to do with it, perchance?

Regardless, one fact remains.

On that fateful night Mr. Polanski established he was a predator.

In view of the foregoing, it is evident that there are issues that have yet to be resolved - the specific terms of the plea bargain need to be affirmed in the court record, a sentence has to be carried out to the "t", and end-scenario stipulations have to be hammered out - pursuant to applicable Criminal Codes and at the Court's discretion.

To simply dismiss the case because the victim wants "finality" is an absurd notion at this juncture.

Now that Polanski has been apprehended - and is awaiting extradition - the authorities are closer to putting the case to bed (after three decades of playing peek-a-boo with Polanski) than ever before.

Roman Polanski...busted! Long arm of law reaches out on rape charges...

Boy, that must have been a shock for film director - Roman Polanski - when he innocently arrived at the airport to attend a festival in Switzerland (to accept an award for his craft) and found himself apprehended, hand-cuffed, and hauled off to the local pokey.

Talk about realism, Roman!

Of course, Polanski has been on the run for a few-dozen-years now, after fleeing the American Justice system to avoid prosecution for allegedly raping a thirteen-year-old actress.

Young pussy was hard to resist for old lover boy, I guess.

Last year it appeared there was an opportunity to resolve the legal snafu.

But, the specifics were difficult to wrangle, so Polanski remained at bay and out of harm's way (temporarily).

Now that an arrest has been made - albeit on foreign shores outside of  U.S. jurisdiction - a second battle has ensued.

Extradition proceedings!

Will the Swiss kow-tow to California's judicial system and comply with their request for transfer to their jurisdiction?

Or, humbly bow their heads in the wake of the cries of shame from neighbors who opine that their unprecedented intervention amounted to a baldl-faced shameful act?

Some analysts on the sidelines argue that it may have behooved Polanski to negotiate his own deal when the opportunity arose.

After all, now the matter has turned into an International incident, with all hawk-eyes inclined to scrutinize the legal system in both countries on opposite sides of the big pond.

Bottom line?

Polanski will get his day in court!

One legal eagle speculated that the case may be dismissed and commuted to time served.

Poland and France have launched a joint appeal for the Swiss to release the embattled film director.

Part of the reason Polanski eluded his pursuers for so many years was due to the fact France has no extradition treaty with the United States.

Though the articulate auteur - who received his first Academy Award nomination for "Knife in the Water" in 1964 - travelled throughout Europe extensively in recent years , he avoided arrest mainly due to the fact policies in respect to apprehending foreign fugitives have been quite lax.

A recent award that was bestowed on Polanski proved to be his undoing, however.

The celebrated event in Switzerland was advertised on the Internet - and consequently - tickets were sold guarnteeing an appearance by the the director of mega-hits such as "Rosemary's Baby".

Swiss Justice Minister Eveline Widmer-Schlumpt intends to remain in Zurich until the extradition proceedings are finalized as a matter of legal form.

U.S. authorities have sixty days to file a request in writing  for Polanski's transfer to these shores.

Ironically, the victim (Samantha Geimer) has since settled out-of-court with Polanski.

Curiously, she has since joined in with friends and business associates, rallying for his exoneration.

Actions speak louder than words, but $$$ scream out for celebrity justice!

On August 8th, there will be an opening of a multi-media Art & Fashion tribute to celebrated beauty Sharon Tate (titled "ICON") at High Profile Productions in Culver City.

The intriguing exhibit is being held to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the murder of the talented actress (who was married to director Roman Polanski when the shocking event took place in the Hollywood Hills at the hands of Charles Manson and his gang of demented followers).

Hosted by sister Deborah Tate (does that make it okay, somehow?), ICON will spotlight an exquisite selection of fashion flourishes by Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Ossie Clark and Thea Porter.

Artist Jeremy Corbell - inspired by the musings of the aforementioned designers - will unveil a collection of his original art pieces which include satin prints, mixed media canvases and a Polaroid installation of original photos and negatives from a previous Sharon Tate shoot.

Undoubedly, Roman Polanski - a fugitive in this country arising from rape charges - will not attend.

Insomniac Cinema...Chinatown screens at midnight! Actors Jack Nicholson & Faye Dunaway rivetting...

On Friday, November 14 at the witching hour - Chinatown - will screen at Insomniac Cinema at the Regency Theatre in the Fairfax District.

If you haven't screened this period thriller starring Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway - hustle over to the theatre - and snap up a ticket.

The ultra-dark murder mystery was not only directed by Roman Polanski at the height of his creative powers, but also features a remarkable stand-out performance by legendary actor, John Huston.

Jack Nicholson plays a seedy Private Dick - Jake Gittes - who is hired to investigate a case of alleged infidelity.

When the subject of his sleuthing ends up dead, instead of walking away empty-handed, Gittes is inclined to investigate further.

Something doesn't gel, he figures rightly.

In a complicated - but thoroughly intriguing plot twist - Gittes uncovers a scam masterminded by Noah Cross (Huston) to buy un-watered (unwanted) land on the cheap and sell it off later at inflated prices.

A mysterious young girl surfaces along the way - who appears to be of particular interest to Faye Dunaway's character for some inexplicable reason - and the crotchety old-letch, Noah Cross.

In a bizarre reveal at the end, a shocking truth about the Cross family, is enough to turn the stomach.

Intense, suspenseful - and highly original - Chinatown is a masterpiece of filmmaking - worth catching.

Throughout the film, Nicholson sports a ubiquitous bandage on his nose, which should signal how offbeat and quirky the award-winning film is at the heart of its ominous beat.
