Charlie Sheen...to appear on assault charges today! Plea bargain or not?

Bad Boy Charlie!

Are we all confused yet?

News out of the Charlie Sheen camp is the "Two and a Half Men" star will appear in a Colorado court this afternoon to face assault charges.

Huh?

Are we experiencing a classic case of Deja Vu, or what?

If you recall, the rebellious actor - with the complicated personal life - was arrested after a violent argument with his wife (actress Brooke Meuller).

In a report to the local police last year, Brooke alleged that during the course of a family scuffle, Charlie not only made threats, but put a knife to her throat.

"My husband held me with a knife at my neck and I'm scared for my life 'cause he threatened me," Mueller, 32, told a police dispatcher.

"You better be in fear," Sheen allegedly responded in anger, too, according to Brooke.

"If you tell anybody, I'll kill you. Your mother's money means nothing. I have ex-police I can hire who know how to get the job done and they won't leave any trace."

An Aspen police officer wrote that he witnessed:

"Red marks on the upper part of the front of her neck."

In spite of that observation by the Officer, Sheen denied attacking his wife.

The busy actor admitted that he broke her glasses, however, according to a detailed police transcript.

Sheen told police he became angry when his wife threatened to divorce him and fight for custody of their twin sons, which accounted for his impromptu physical interaction with Brooke at their holiday home in Aspen.

Police proceeded to charge Sheen with felony second-degree assault, felony menacing and a misdemeanor charge of criminal mischief.

Both Sheen and Mueller entered substance abuse rehabilitation several weeks after the incident.

Initially, Sheen was inclined to plead not guilty to all of the charges.

At this juncture, there was a burp in the proceedings, though.

Amidst a lot of wild speculation about what went down that fateful day, Sheen pulled a switcheroo, of sorts.

His lawyer began a dialogue with the Prosecutor's office to "hammer out" a plea bargain agreement with the court.

One was struck that appeared to be agreeable to all parties.

In addition to thirty-days in jail, Charlie would participate in a volunteer program for youth at a local Theatre in town.

However, on the eve of the day Charlie was slated to appear in Court - and finalize the terms and conditions - the deal fell apart.

Apparently, one of the prosecutors - a  tough cookie - was reluctant to sign off on the plea bargain - on the grounds that Mr. Sheen was getting off "too lightly" - and  in view of the seriousness of the charges alleged.

Trust a witchy woman to throw a monkey wrench into Charlie's well-conceived plans!

Time out!

Over the past few weeks, the Sheen case has - essentially - been held in abeyance.

Until a scant day or two ago, that is.

Suddenly, without any warning, there was an about-face.

Now, it appears that Charlie will be appearing in a Colorado court this afternoon to plead guilty to the charge of assault - and agree to thirty days in jail (perhaps) and rehab - with the provisio that the more serious charge of felony menacing be dropped.

Confused as  moi?

Charlie Sheen...expected to plea bargain! Jail time on horizon...

Justin Bieber warns not to bend over for the soap in pokey!

According to inside sources, Charlie Sheen has reached an "acceptable" plea bargain agreement in respect to domestic violence charges brought against the "Two and a Half Man" comedy star last Christmas in an upscale neighborhood in Aspen, Colorado.

Arnold Mordkin - the Chief Deputy District Attorney - acknowledged the accord, but declined to disclose the specific details.

Some speculate that Mr. Sheen will plead guilty to one charge of felony menacing and agree to a thirty-day stint in the local jailhouse.

Yale Galanter, legal counsel for Sheen's wife Brooke, also confirmed a plea agreement had been reached, but stopped short of elaborating on the specifics for good reason.

"A deal is not a deal until the judge approves it," she astutely noted to media hounds hanging on every word.

"Brooke is totally satisfied with the deal," the attorney piped up later, "but, if she had her  druthers, the case would have been dismissed."

Once criminal charges of this nature are filed, prosecutors often perceive the accused as a threat to society in general - and for good reason - are inclined to pursue the matter to the full extent of the law in spite of protests later by the initial victim.

That's Polanski's dilemma, too!

Sheen initially pleaded not guilty to - felony menacing, criminal mischief and assault charges - which arose from an alleged violent encounter with his wife Brooke last holiday season in December (2009).

The most serious felony charge is menacing which normally carries a maximum three-year prison sentence.

Sheen is scheduled to be in court Monday for a disposition hearing.

July 21st  was set for the commencement of the trial, although that issue may be moot now, if insiders are correct about what is expected to "go down" in Court in the next few days.

Sheen's attorney bitterly sought to throw out statements that the "Two and a Half Men" actor made to police investigating the case just prior to his physical arrest in Aspen.

An officer questioned Sheen in the basement of a house without advising him of his right to remain silent, which turned out to be a legal bone of contention.

When that wrangling failed for the defendant, I surmise that Sheen was advised to plea bargain, for obvious reasons.

The actor insisted that he did not threaten or hit his wife.

In spite of those highly vocal denials, a police officer's arrest affidavit quoted Brooke Sheen as saying the actor - not only pinned her on a bed while holding a knife to her throat - but issued a threat as well.

More incriminating for the popular actor, perhaps, was an audio recording of a 911 call in which a woman who identified herself as Brooke confided in a dispatcher:

"I thought I was gonna die for one hour."

Twitter...Charlie Sheen jokes! Exiting sitcom...

There's always DVD!

Just recently Twitter redesigned their web site which has turned out to be a big plus for fans keen on being on top of all the celebrity gossip (and titillating scuttlebutt) streaking like lightning around the blogosphere.

Without logging in, visitors are now able to gleen a number of top tweets that crawl across the screen in a manner not disimilar to a ticker tape updating stock results.

Lazy celebrity gossips are ecstatic!

Shortly after the rumor started to spread that Charlie Sheen was quitting the his highly-rated TV Sitcom - Two And A Half Men - tweeters began to post hilarious jokes about the troubled star and utter up their snide take on the surprising turn-of-events.

"Charlie Sheen is leaving "Two And A Half Men" so he has more time to beat his family at home," one quipped.

One of my favorites?

"Now that Charlie Sheen is leaving his sitcom, the show is being retitled Two Men."

Ouch!

Charlie Sheen...news leaks result in firing!

Mad money conjured up for keeping an ear to the wall is going by way of the dinosaur on the set of  - "Two and a Half Men" - according to inside sources who have chosen to remain anonymous for obvious reasons!

Charlie Sheen has lowered the big bad boom.

Any crew or cast member caught divulging juicy tibits of gossip about the troubled star during the throes of rehearsing and/or filming the hit sitcom will be terminated.

Yup!

The "Boys Next Door" star (I worked in one scene on the off-beat Penelope Spheris indie starring Charlie) is mad as hell and he's not taking it anymore.

Sounds like the stance he took in the Brooke fall-out, eh?

Betcha the tongues still wag!

As the immortal heart-throb Leonardo DiCaprio was inclined to once quip:

"Catch me if you can!"

Later!

Charlie Sheen...stolen Mercedes & crash fishy Tiger Woods tale?

Well, he's got the acting chops to pull it off!

But, the bizarre tale that went out over the newswire earlier today sounded a lot like a Tiger Woods misadventure, to moi.

Allegedly, a Mercedes owned by actor Charlie Sheen, was stolen and later ended down a ravine totalled.

Curiously, search teams who arrived at the crash site - on the heels of a 911 call - combed the area and were unable to locate the driver.

The incident occurred at approximately 4 a.m. on Mulholland Drive in the tony climbs of Beverly Hills.

Sheen called police to report the car stolen, according to a police spokesman, involved with the case.
Coincidentally, another luxury car stolen from a nearby neighborhood was discovered 200 yards from where Sheen's car was located.

The discovery of the 2009 silver Bentley coupe was reported to police about 1:45 p.m. by a press photographer.

Is it possible the two incidents are related - or has Mr. Sheen seized on the fact there were robberies and car thefts in the neighborhood of late - to explain away a smash-up he was involved in?

The incident comes as Sheen faces a court hearing in Aspen on Monday in connection with a domestic violence incident.

Sheen, is alleged to have attacked his wife of 19 months, Brooke Mueller, at a vacation home in Aspen on Christmas Day.

I reported on the incident in December.

Post:  12/26/09

http://ijulian.blogspot.com/2009/12/charlie-sheenhollywood-bad-boy-charged.html

I could put two and two together and come up with a dynamite scenario.

Worried about the hearing on Monday, Sheen downs one too many ales when out with pals, ends up miscalculating a turn under a dark cloudy sky on the way home, and suddenly finds himself roaring off Mulholland Drive.

Unhurt, but panicking, Sheen dashes from the scene of the accident to avoid an additional complication in his life.

Later, when his wits are about him ( and he has had the opportunity to chat up good old dad for some advice)  - he calls the police to report the vehicle stolen as quickly as possible to ultimately erase all potential doubt about any personal involvement in the accident.

What say you?

The 44-year-old action/comedy star currently appeared in the primetime television comedy series "Two And A Half Men".

If you ask me, his personal life is stranger than fiction, and more fascinating to stand on the sidelines and watch.

Charlie Sheen...hides out in LA LA LAND! Awaits decision from Aspen brass...

Half a man stews in LA LA LAND!

Authorities in Aspen announced yesterday that a decision won't be made until February in respect to the formal filing of charges against actor Charlie Sheen for assault, menacing, and criminal mischief.

Understandably, the Hollywood bad boy - who was thrust into the spotlight on Christmas day for allegedly threatening his wife - returned home to LA LA LAND to sweat it out.

In a 911 tape released to the media Monday, a distraught woman (later identified as Brooke Sheen, Charlie's wife) expressed a concern to Law Enforcement Officers that she was "going to die".

Appparently, Sheen flew into a rage after his wife asked for a divorce.

At one juncture, it was allegeed that Sheen held a knife to her throat, and threatened that if she left him he would kill her.

The star of the hit TV Show - Two and a Half Men - denied the accusations to officers assigned to head up the investigation.

Sheen was charged with a misdemeanor battery count for knocking down a former girlfriend and causing bodily injury in the past which resulted in probation, a suspended sentence, and community service.
Consequently, legal experts have opined that if the recent incident results in formal charges being filed, there may not be too much wiggle you for Sheen next time out.

Sheen's prior conviction may not bode well for the TV actor if a new case is filed and set for trial.

A first offense may have been a foolish misadventure gone awry, but a second offense - some say - may hammer home to a Judge and Jury that the individual is prone to engage in domestic violence - and consequently - loved ones may be at risk if there isn't any meaningful intervention.

A Judge may decide that jail time is a necessary punishment to deter the violent conduct in the future, require anger management classes, or impose both with the specific aim of rectifying the emotional problems of the individual.

As I noted in a previous post earlier this week, Mr. Sheen's representative urged everyone not to jump to conclusions.

"Do not be misled by appearance," he cautioned.

Bottom line, if the case goes forward, Sheen will have his day in court.

Will the King have any clothes?

Charlie Sheen...Hollywood bad boy charged with assault, menacing & criminal mischief!

Trendy Aspen ski resort lures Hollywood A-list!

Bad Boy Sheen cuts up in ritzy enclave!

There was a time when Charlie Sheen was known as the perennial (nocturnal) bad boy around Hollywood - but he cleaned up his act, landed a hit show - and has been on the slow lane to surburbia for a decade or so now.

Subsequently, it was a bit of a shocker to catch a bulletin on the news last night which reported on  the charismatic actor's shake-down at the hands of the boys in blue on Christmas day on serious charges of second-degree assault and menacing.

Both counts are felonies.

A misdemeanor charge for criminal mischief was also tacked on.

Yeah, don't forget the cherry on top, dudes!

On the heels of a 911 call (in which a so-called  victim alleged domesic violence) Aspen Police Officers arrested the star of the hit comedy -  "Two and a Half Men" - at which point he wiled away desperate hours in the Pitkin County Jail until bail was forthcoming.

Troubles at home?

A spokesperson for Mr. Sheen urged folks not to jump to conclusions.

Federal Trade Commission...seeks stricter content guidelines on web! Young audiences targeted...

Uncut Director's Editions on Internet concerns FTC!

The FTC recently cautioned that entertainment companies need to restrict violent content which may be accessible to young children who access the Internet without parental controls in check.

The Government agency (which recently expanded its reach into the World-Wide-Web) noted for the record recently- that while a handful of film and video-game companies have been more mindful of establishing a ratings system that is effective in this regard - more effort needed be made to self-police the industry-at-large..

The FTC alleges that parents have a difficult time monitoring content since there is a proliferation of unrated (director's cut versions) films on the Internet that are difficult to weed out among the mainstream fodder that is less worrisome.

According to the FTC, one of out every three parents, is unaware of the existence of these "uncut" releases spinning out-of-control on the blogosphere - and elsewhere on the net - unmonitored (or even identified for the most part).

In response to the criticism, a spokesperson at the Motion Picture Association of America (a ratings forum in the film industry arena) assured concerned FTC officials - and parents alike - that they are committed to ensuring that films are marketed truthfully  with the ultimate aim of providing parents with concise information about content so that educated decisions may be made about film choices for their young ones.

On the heels of that issue, the content watchdog duly noted that PG-13 movies were also aco ncern.

Apparently, youths under thirteen years of age are screening the films on the sly on the Internet without adult supervision.

One has to wonder if the FTC's concerns about explicit content in music biz product wasn't perhaps triggered by the recent brouhaha over Adam Lambert's raunchy live! performance on the American Music Awards just a scant few weeks ago.

Tiger Woods...intriguing fender-bender bashes up golf pro! Husband-beater to blame...

ooops!

It was a fender-bender which shook up the world.

When the news first flashed around the globe that Tiger Woods was seriously hurt in a traffic accident - a dedicated fan base, concerned media hounds, and members of  the joe public  - anxiously began flipping channels on the old boob tube (Internet surfing, too) for up-to-the-minute info on the unexpected mishap.

But, as the details began to filter in - the accident occured at approximately  2:30 am. in front of Tiger's home - folks began to raise their eyebrows (and shake their heads) in total disbelief.

How was it possible for the high-profile athlete to sustain a bloody lip - and suffer a head injury so severe that it caused the known celebrity to slip in-and-out of consciousness - in a minor snafu of no consequence while backing out of his own front driveway?

And, the bizarre tale got more curious by the moment as the dumbfounding details unfolded in the early dawn.

Allegedly, after Tiger's wife noticed he was trapped inside the vehicle after sustaining injuries (she wasn't originally in the car, according to a handful of reports), she apparently used a golf club to smash the rear windshield in a frenzed bold-faced effort to rescue Tiger from the vehicle.

Nope!

The tawdry tale doesn't pass the smell test, does it?

When the police came calling the next day to have a word with Tiger regarding the incident, he was apparently asleep (resting?) - and so - his wife requested that the coppers in blue return the next day.

At this juncture, my antennae shifted into high frequency, alright!

Since a slow reverse into the street (by any stretch of the imagination) could not affect so much damage to a car - and especially not to Mr. Woods own physical studly self - two things are obvious from the get-go.

One, Tiger must have backing out of the driveway at a fast clip and, at some point, lost control of the car (for some inexplicable reason).

In that event, why was he in such a hurry to speed away from his home at 2:30 a.m.?

If he is asserting today that he cruised out slowly, then one has to consider that he may have been drinking, in the alternative.

Otherwise, how could he possibly lose control of the vehicle and end up with such serious injuries, if that was not the case?

My own gut instinct tells me that there is another ugly scenario to consider.

Tiger and his missus may have had a lover's quarrel.

In my mind's eye, at the heat of the argument - which may have gotten physical inside their home - the Golf Pro suddenly dashed out of the house, jumped into the car, and attempted to escape his wife who had bloodied his lip after hitting him over the head.

When he put the car into reverse, his hubby smashed the rear windshield in anger, in an effort to prevent him from driving off to a Hotel, a friend's home, or a secret love nest (with a lover).

Instead of stopping, he sped up - lost control of the vehicle - and subsequently hit the fire hydrant and neighbour's tree.

Sounds about right to me!

Tiger, enquiring minds want to know!

Clothesline Project...UCLA spotlight on sexual violence! Breaking the silence...

I was cutting across UCLA campus on Thursday when I spotted five or six clotheslines haphazardly strung from tree to tree with a-couple-of-dozen t-shirts flapping in the breeze on 'em with thought-provoking messages etched upon their faces.

HD Video (below)

A student holding vigile explained that the "Clothesline Project" is a non-partisan student organization which was established to raise awareness about the mulitiple and intersecting forms of sexual voilence in the community.

"Making a T-shirt is part of the healing process for survivors."

According to the non-profit group, for Survivors of sex crimes, actions taken like the one on the UCLA campus amount to a brave step towards speaking out about their sexual histories.

Essentially, the courageous act is intended to "break the silence".

In addition, family and friends of victims (who died as a result of sexual assault) may create a "shirt" in memory of their loved ones who fell victim to the atrocious sexual acts.

The Clothesline Project shirts are color-coded to represent the types of sexual violence that are ongoing daily in various communities around the country.

White, for instance, is "In Memory" of a loved one who was murdered as a result of sexual, domestic, or gender-based violence.

Red or Pink puts the spotlight on survivors of rape or sexual assault.

Individuals who were assaulted because of their sexuality or gender (who were attacked because they were perceived as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, or intersex) are represented by the color purple.

Victims of incest and child sexual abuse are generally represented by blue or green hues.

According to staggering statistics:

*Every 2.5 minutes, there is a sexual assault (U.S. Dept. of Justice).

*1/3 of all females are forced into their 1st sex experience (WHO).

*1 of 16 rapists will spend a day in jail for their crime (RAINN)

*1 in 4 women experience sexual violence by a partner (WHO).

*1 in every 10 rape victims are Male (RAINN).
