Lindsay Lohan...cooking therapeutic! Trial looms on horizon!

Lindsay on path to recovery!

On a rare occasion, troubled starlet - Lindsay Lohan - threw open her doors and invited a film crew in to shoot an exclusive interview with "Extra" (Tabloid News Show).

In recent days, her handlers have run interference with the press - especially when it came to one-on-one interviews - in view of pending legal matters before the court.

In the comfy environs of her home near the beach, the "Mean Girls" star let it slip - for starters - that she loves to cook.

"I find it so therapeutic," she fessed up matter-of-fact.

The stylish sexpot doesn't appear to be packing on any extra flab, in spite of tasting the dishes, during the course of whipping 'em up.

In fact, in contrast to drug-addled bad-boy - Charlie Sheen - Ms. Lohan looked fresh-faced and relaxed as she spoke candidly before the camera.

Lohan, about half-way through the tell-all, was quick to underscore that she's anxious to get back to meaningful work.

Of course, that tough proposition will depend on the power-players in Tinsel Town (is she an insurance risk?) and a Judge presiding over an upcoming trial which looms on the horizon in respect to a felony charge of grand theft.

Ms. Lohan is quite adamant that she intends to "face the music" - and a take a shot at a played-out court-room drama - rather than accept a plea bargain which includes a stint at the local jail.

The ball may be in the recovering addict's court, though.

Over the weekend, it was revealed that her accusers may have sold an incriminating piece of evidence in the case (a video which allegedly caught Lohan in the act of lifting a one-of-a-kind piece of jewellery valued at $2500.00) which may have harmed their credibility and tainted the prospects of a guilty verdict at trial.

There may be some wiggle room for Ms. Lohan, after all!

Lindsay Lohan...stern Judge threatens jail time for troubled starlet!

Poor Lindsay Lohan!

This morning, the world of the naughty high-profile starlet came tumbling down, and she was suddenly left in a lurch between-a-rock & a-hard-place!

Uh-huh!

When the drug-addled tabloid-plagued beauty appeared before a crusty old bench-warmer (a hanging Judge?) bright-and-early (to answer to what some are calling a "trumped-up" felony charge arising from the alleged theft of a pricey one-of-a-kind necklace from a Venice storefront jeweller) she was in for an unexpected shock.

The Superior Court Judge - presiding over the much-publicized case - threatened that he would send the pretty actress (with a penchant for dressing inappropriately for court) to jail if she accepted a plea bargain offered by the prosecutor's office.

Although the terms of that deal were not made public, Judge Keith Schwartz underscored from the bench, that Lohan would have to plead guilty or "no contest" to a charge that she "lifted" a piece of merchandise without paying the ticket price.

If Lohan sauntered into court expecting a slap on the wrist, her expectations were not only sky-high - but, without doubt - unrealistic.

"This case involves jail time," bench-warmer Judge Schwartz gruffly informed the "Mean Girls" actress as she sat stone-faced next to legal counsel.

"If you plead in front of me - if this case resolves in front of me - you are going to jail. Period. It may be an issue as to the amount of time."

The surly old adjudicator sure was high on drama, wasn't he?

Period!

However, there is a glimmer of hope for Ms. Lohan.

Schwartz noted (no bones about it) - that if Lohan rejected the plea bargain - the case would be set for a preliminary hearing in front of another judge.

Will another Jurist show more mercy?

The light-fingered sexpot must cough up a decision by her next court appearance which is slated for March 10th.

Lindsay Lohan...pleads not guilty on felony charge of grand theft! Stay-away orders!

Lohan may have to sport fashions courtesy the local jailer!

Lindsay Lohan ran the media gauntlet once again - at the Airport Courthouse with jurisdiction over pending legal issues - to appear at an arraignment today on a grand theft felony charge in connection with the alleged disappearance of a pricey necklace.

Once again, the scripted material was pretty predictable.

Say what?

"Who me, guilty of theft?"

With little ado, Ms. Lohan informed the Judge presiding over the proceedings - Keith L. Schwartz - that she was most "not guilty".

Although his honor hinted that he might deny bail, he reneged on that promise.

A short while later, Ms. Lohan's bail was set at $40,000.00 smackeroos.

"You're in a different situation now that a felony has been filed against you," Schwartz told Lohan.

"You need to follow the laws just like everybody else. You're no different than anyone else, so please don't push your luck."

Because there appeared to be some effort on the part of "someone" (Lohan's handlers?) - to butter up the Venice Beach shopkeeper (flowers were delivered on the heels of the filing of the felony charge) - the Judge ordered the "Mean Girls" star to stay away from the premises in the future.

Lohan will trot back to court on Feb. 23.

The sexy thespian is no stranger to the law.

The troubled starlet is currently on probation for a misdemeanor drunk-driving conviction.

And, allegations that she twisted the arm of a worker at the Betty Ford Center, are still under investigation.

In the media frenzy that followed the announcement of Lohan's new run-in with the law, her attorney released a statement to the press, in which he stridently acknowledged that the actress would fight all criminal charges tooth-and-nail.

Meanwhile, legal analysts note that Lohan could be ordered to appear before a Judge in a Beverly Hills court in the near future, to determine whether the grand-theft charge constitutes a probation violation warranting jail time.

Criminal Records..."Secure Communities" illegals database launch slips under Nevada radar!

In spite of all the brouhaha over the Arizona Immigration Reform Bill targeting illegals - and the flood of ugly protests in its wake - a Federal database that uses fingerprints to feret out legal status and criminal history was given the green light.

The U.S. Department of Immigration "tool" sifts through data to identify high-risk illegal immigrants who may have been convicted of serious crimes such as rape, kidnapping, and drug trafficking (for starters).

The high-tech program - aptly titled "Secure Communities" (sounds like a sequel to the TV MOW "Stepford Wives" doesn't it?) was pressed into service in Washoe County with little fanfare this past week.

How did the Latino Eagle-eye miss that one?

For now, the Nevada community is the first to facilitate the resource, with Clark County stepping up-to-the-bat by 2013.

Normally, in the past - when a suspect was apprehended and charged - their fingerprints would automatically be sent to the FBI  where sophisticated network computers would match their  criminal records and those held at the Department of Homeland Security.

The program differs from Section 287(g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act - in that - fingerprints of every suspect will be checked and not just those that were manually inputted based on red flags generated subjectively by law enforcement officers (such as potentially damaging comments made by a suspect in the throes of arrest) according to an ICE spokesperson.

Essentially, the intelligent Secure Communities software will work in tandem with - and bolster - Section 287(g).

Some critics have been quite vocal about the potential dangers.

According to legal scholars, fingerprint databases that probe too far, have the ability to run afoul of an individual's Fourth Amendment Rights - and subsequently - equal protection under the law.

If it is any consolation, supporters of the spanking-new information gatherer, argue strenuously that the ambitious program isn't subject to racial profiling or immigration status.

Why mention it, then?

Charlie Sheen...expected to plea bargain! Jail time on horizon...

Justin Bieber warns not to bend over for the soap in pokey!

According to inside sources, Charlie Sheen has reached an "acceptable" plea bargain agreement in respect to domestic violence charges brought against the "Two and a Half Man" comedy star last Christmas in an upscale neighborhood in Aspen, Colorado.

Arnold Mordkin - the Chief Deputy District Attorney - acknowledged the accord, but declined to disclose the specific details.

Some speculate that Mr. Sheen will plead guilty to one charge of felony menacing and agree to a thirty-day stint in the local jailhouse.

Yale Galanter, legal counsel for Sheen's wife Brooke, also confirmed a plea agreement had been reached, but stopped short of elaborating on the specifics for good reason.

"A deal is not a deal until the judge approves it," she astutely noted to media hounds hanging on every word.

"Brooke is totally satisfied with the deal," the attorney piped up later, "but, if she had her  druthers, the case would have been dismissed."

Once criminal charges of this nature are filed, prosecutors often perceive the accused as a threat to society in general - and for good reason - are inclined to pursue the matter to the full extent of the law in spite of protests later by the initial victim.

That's Polanski's dilemma, too!

Sheen initially pleaded not guilty to - felony menacing, criminal mischief and assault charges - which arose from an alleged violent encounter with his wife Brooke last holiday season in December (2009).

The most serious felony charge is menacing which normally carries a maximum three-year prison sentence.

Sheen is scheduled to be in court Monday for a disposition hearing.

July 21st  was set for the commencement of the trial, although that issue may be moot now, if insiders are correct about what is expected to "go down" in Court in the next few days.

Sheen's attorney bitterly sought to throw out statements that the "Two and a Half Men" actor made to police investigating the case just prior to his physical arrest in Aspen.

An officer questioned Sheen in the basement of a house without advising him of his right to remain silent, which turned out to be a legal bone of contention.

When that wrangling failed for the defendant, I surmise that Sheen was advised to plea bargain, for obvious reasons.

The actor insisted that he did not threaten or hit his wife.

In spite of those highly vocal denials, a police officer's arrest affidavit quoted Brooke Sheen as saying the actor - not only pinned her on a bed while holding a knife to her throat - but issued a threat as well.

More incriminating for the popular actor, perhaps, was an audio recording of a 911 call in which a woman who identified herself as Brooke confided in a dispatcher:

"I thought I was gonna die for one hour."

Charlie Sheen...hides out in LA LA LAND! Awaits decision from Aspen brass...

Half a man stews in LA LA LAND!

Authorities in Aspen announced yesterday that a decision won't be made until February in respect to the formal filing of charges against actor Charlie Sheen for assault, menacing, and criminal mischief.

Understandably, the Hollywood bad boy - who was thrust into the spotlight on Christmas day for allegedly threatening his wife - returned home to LA LA LAND to sweat it out.

In a 911 tape released to the media Monday, a distraught woman (later identified as Brooke Sheen, Charlie's wife) expressed a concern to Law Enforcement Officers that she was "going to die".

Appparently, Sheen flew into a rage after his wife asked for a divorce.

At one juncture, it was allegeed that Sheen held a knife to her throat, and threatened that if she left him he would kill her.

The star of the hit TV Show - Two and a Half Men - denied the accusations to officers assigned to head up the investigation.

Sheen was charged with a misdemeanor battery count for knocking down a former girlfriend and causing bodily injury in the past which resulted in probation, a suspended sentence, and community service.
Consequently, legal experts have opined that if the recent incident results in formal charges being filed, there may not be too much wiggle you for Sheen next time out.

Sheen's prior conviction may not bode well for the TV actor if a new case is filed and set for trial.

A first offense may have been a foolish misadventure gone awry, but a second offense - some say - may hammer home to a Judge and Jury that the individual is prone to engage in domestic violence - and consequently - loved ones may be at risk if there isn't any meaningful intervention.

A Judge may decide that jail time is a necessary punishment to deter the violent conduct in the future, require anger management classes, or impose both with the specific aim of rectifying the emotional problems of the individual.

As I noted in a previous post earlier this week, Mr. Sheen's representative urged everyone not to jump to conclusions.

"Do not be misled by appearance," he cautioned.

Bottom line, if the case goes forward, Sheen will have his day in court.

Will the King have any clothes?

West Hollywood Post Office...postal clerks tamper with mail. A felony?

I was quite flabbergasted when I witnessed a shocking scenario that went down in the West Hollywood Postal Station this afternoon.

When a resident in the area stopped at the clerk's window with a notice to pick up a item labelled "merchandise" , he got shuffled to the back of the line, and the other patrons who arrived after him, ended up being served first.

Exasperated, he complained about the incident, but the package was still not forthcoming.

At this juncture, the counter-person re-verified the Box Number - at which point - there was an odd-ball exchange of dialogue between the two clerks on duty that didn't make any sense.

Well, we handed it over to each other. That's what happened."

In my day, we called that double-talk.

Attorneys are good at that game!

Then, the clerk had the audacity to ask the gentleman to affix his signature to the notice, in spite of the fact he hadn't even caught sight of the alleged package containing "merchandise".

Did this the clerk actually expect a customer to sign for an article before her or she determined if the package was meant for them?

"I'd like to see what this merchandise is," he politely advised her.

Then, without batting an eye, she turned to the other clerk (out-of-sight behind a door) and almost whispered:

He wants to see the package first."

A-ha!

I didn't have to be Sherlock Holmes to figure out that the clerk had just tried to trick the box holder into signing for the package, before he ever laid his eyes on it.

The clerk also misrepresented information on the postal notice - since the parcel was a "large envelope" - and not "merchandise" as falsely alleged

The clerks deliberately witheld the senders postal code, too - a piece of vital information that is generally stated on the "Notice" - before it is placed in a customer's mailbox.

In view of all the evidence, it is quite obvious that the clerks snooped into the box holder's personal affairs, tried to act on behalf of a third party outside the postal station (in spite of the fact the man who stood before them was their paying client), and essentially tampered with his mail by virtue of the fact they held it back and tried to get him to sign for it in a deceitful and dishonest manner.

Isn't mail tampering a felony?

I trust the individual will file a complaint with the Postmaster General in Washington, D.C. and mail a certified copy to the FBI, as well, so they can conduct a probe.

Something is amiss in the West Hollywood Postal Station.

And, it stinks to high heaven!
