Celebs have been flying in-and-out of town this past week attending annivessary celebrations of popular musical hits such as "LOVE" (Paul McCartney, Yoko Ono, George Marin), signing books at trendy "in" spots on the strip (Holly Madison at Paris), and making a splash at the spanking-new opening of Nikki Beach at the newly-renovated Tropicana (Wayne Newton).

And, the trend continues over the weekend, go figure!

In spite of the fact three-digit temperatures have been sending locals - and tourists alike - poolside to seek much-needed relief!

Tonight, Khloe Kardashian - of reality-TV fame - will be toasted at a "B"-day celebration at the Chateau Nightclub at Paris.

David Spade, the hilarious stand-up comic and perennial funnyman, returns to the Venetian tonight (June 17th) and tomorrow night (June 18th).

If you hurry, there may be a few seats available, before a crush hits the Hotel Lobby early this evening in a mad scramble for tickets last-minute.

Mr. Spade is a popular performer on the strip - in large part due to his hilarious sarcasm - and distinctive quick wit.

Fans may recall that the zany comic appeared in two well-received feature films "Tommy Boy" and "Joe Dirt".

His role in the TV Sitcom - "Just Shoot Me" - earned Mr. Spade a coveted Emmy Award (or two) and a coveted Golden Globe nomination.

In the past, Spade's informal style has put the audience at ease - enough so - that they tend to feel they're right at home instead of the environs of the cozy theatre at the upscale chic Hotel.

Expected the unexpected when he trots on stage tonight.

Vanilla Ice will be also performing LIVE! at the chic Luxor on June 18th at LAX Nightclub.

Fans of the Supremes will no doubt try to catch Mary Wilson at the Riviera too.

Julian Ayrs...In Concert! Gigs on horizon!

  


Well, I finally decided to take the plunge!

Today, I purchased a mic and an amp and I've started to rehearse a roster of tunes to perform for solo gigs in the near future.

It occurred to be bright-and-early at the crack-of-dawn today - that it was important to get my a** in gear - while my voice is still relatively golden (and intact) and my range still far-reaching.

And, before I depart this mortal coil, of course!

Of all my gifts, my voice was probably the best one God ever bestowed on me, without doubt.

If I am in a restaurant and I sing along to a tune playing on the radio, other patrons turn around in their seats, and stare at me in amazement.

In Church, I am likewise the center of attention, when I sing out my favourite hymns!

I am a cross between Johnny Mathis and Elvis Presley!

So, in the near future, I'll be popping up on stage - in the streets, too - crooning a handful of my signature songs such as - "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes", "This Masquerade", "People", "My Heart Will Go On", "Don't Let me be Misunderstood", "All I Ask", "I Want to be Free", "You Don't have to Say You Love Me", "Over the Rainbow", "Oh, Baby" (original), "Main Street" (original) - to name a few!

If you spy me performing, do stroll up and say hi, eh?

Ting Tings...drummer hot! Lead vocalist crankin' out catchy sound...

On Saturday Night Live the "Ting Tings" kicked up a musical storm that entertained thoroughly.

The Ting Tings is a Grammy-nominated English Indie pop duo comprised of Jules De Martino (drums, lead guitar, vocals, piano) and Katie White (vocals, guitar, bass drums, bass guitar, and cow bells).

For a lone two-man band - the rising musical pop stars - pack quite a whallop!

They're not hard to gaze at, either.

The front woman, Katie White, strutted the stage leather-clad, hip, and pretty.

Meanwhile, the studly hard-driving drummer drove home the raw novel sound with a strident catchy beat.

A youthful exuberance the "Tings" exhibited in their live performance was downright contagious.

Originally from Hackney (London), the two charismatic musicians formed the Ting Tings in December of 2007 while they were hunkered down at Islington Mill Artist Studios in Salford recording.

Stand-out performances at the Mod Club Theatre (March/2009) triggered a buzz in industry circles, and there has been no looking back for the dazzling duo since.

Their musical influences appear to flow from pop rock, Indie pop, and dance punk.

The band's debut album - "We Started Nothing" - was officially released on the 19th of May (2008).

However, because the recordings were leaked onto the Internet on May 13th (a week earlier), the single - "That's Not My Name" - managed to leap to No. 1 on the UK Singles Charts almost overnight.

A bullet, alright!

A high-profile performance at a i Tunes Live London Festival (held in the KoKo nightclub on July 9th/2008) was released as a downloadable EP in the iTunes store (and quickly streamed into  private music collections of fans around the globe).

Their influence has reached out into the mainstream of Pop Culture, too.

For example, their singles = "Shut Up and Let Me Go" and "We Started Nothing" - were featured on the ratings-getter Gossip Girl.

"Be the One" was featured on the popular TV series "One Tree Hill".

Their single - "Great DJ" - was also laid into theatrical trailers for the Anna Faris comedy - "The House Bunny" - and the Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire.

The Ting Tings drove audiences wild on the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards when they performed small interludes consisting of remixes of past hits honored by the industry.

The band won a Best UK Video Award for their single "Shut Up and Let Me Go".

"Carrot Top" - the once-wimpy dude with the shock of bright red hair who used to juggle power-saws when he first broke into show biz - is snapping up seventy-two bucks a shot for his show.

On the other end of the spectrum, Nathan Burton offers up a mesmerizing Magic Show (rife with a bevy of mystifying illusions that baffle even the most observant ticket-holder) for the bargain price of $19.99 (a buffet included).

I met Mr. Burton once on the red carpet at the Cinevegas film festival. 

Cool down-to-earth guy!

Phantom of the Opera is going strong at the Venetian @ $109.00 a pop! 

"An over-the-top spectacle," according to a stage critic at the Arizona Republic.

The Chicago-Sun Times raved, too.

"It will take your breath away."

As I strolled down Paradise just yesterday, I was surprised to spy a bilboard touting Charo's "concert" at the Riviera.

After I trundled on home from school as a lad, I often caught the effervescent "coochie coochie" girl reving up giggling audiences on the Merv Griffin show.

The Las Vegas Sun astutely quipped about Charo:

"A stick of dyamite exploding on stage."

Most Americans are unaware of the fact that the little spitfire is a skilled guitarist.

"A musical sensation" according to some.

Catch her act if you can!
The ever-popular "Blue Man Group" continues to pack the tourists in, but is a much pricier offering, with tickets selling for $129.00 (& skwywards!).

The dazzling stage show has been highly-touted as  "visually stunning", "wildly inventive", and "hysterically funny."

"An ecstatic experience," raved USA Today.

Chippendales (for the lusty at heart) is raunchy bill-of-fare for a hefty price tag of $58.00. (The Rio)

Ladies (and you gay dudes) take note!

In the event of unexpected up-close and -in-your-face lap dances, it may be wise to have a fistful of bills on hand to tuck into bulging g-strings.

Across town, Hooters is trying to steal some of the Chippendale's thunder with their own sexy male stud tease, known as the "Men of X".

In view of the newly-packed Beatles tunes this past week, a slew of die-hard Liverpudlian fans may want to take in the always-popular FAB Four at Planet Hollywood ($57.50).

"Legends" consists of 5 Fabulous acts in one spectucular stage extravaganza at Harrah's.

The longest running tribute show in entertainment history, Legends in concert features dancers, live musicians, and the world's greatest celebrity impersonators.

"Grand. It's a cosmic curtain call of Legends," lauded another media outlet.

"American Superstars" at the Stratosphere is in a similar vein and offers one stage performance a night Sunday thru Tuesday.

$49.50 will land you a show, dinner, and Tower (Stratosphere panoramic view of Vegas strip) , and two cocktails.  Good deal, eh?

"Bodies" is an macabre exhibition at the Luxor.

Critics are hailing the novel display as "innovative, real, and groundbreaking".

It is a showcase of real human bodies that have been preserved to allow the curious to explore the human body in a fascinating way never seen before.

If you can stomach it!

The "Titantic Exhibition" of memorabilia at the Luxor may appeal to a handful of history buffs, too.  And, the entrance fee of $27.00 won't bankrupt your Vegas budget.

The perennial favourite - "The Lion King" - is still wowing stage musical fans at the princely sum of $109.00 a ticket at Mandaulay Bay.

Of course, a little sunbathing at the pool may be the best route to go if the sweltering heat persists in the desert oasis (!!!) . 

All that it will cost you is the price of a cocktail or two!

Josh Groban...knee-jerk reactions from fans. Mentally unbalanced, few!

Groban fans need to awaken from deep stupor...


Just before Christmas last year - as fans were savoring the strains of Josh Groban's Holiday Season album (which pushed the CD to No. 1 on the charts) - the young vocalist whined in a Los Angeles Times interview that he was basically fed up with warbling carols and wanted to move on.

In a response post, I noted that Mr. Groban appeared to be a bit ungrateful - and, that in essence - he was throwing a damper on holiday spirits because he lacked the ability (or maturity) to follow through.

Of course - this caused a knee-jerk reactions from fans - who criticized me for tearing down their musical God.

Since the opinions of fools means nothing to me, I ignored their angst and moved on.

This past weekend - the Los Angeles times singled out Mr. Groban as being "overrated" - on the heels of a performance on the 60th Annual Emmy Awards show which the Times' writers labelled a bit "cheesy".

In response, I penned a post noting - that while Mr. Groban's voice tended to fall upon the "ears" blissfully at times - he sounded too "trained".

I proceeded to point out that if he sang from the heart, his vocalizing might improve.

Currently, he sings from the "head" - from a structured musical foundation - which limits his appeal.

Hence, the criticisms from various quarters in recent days.

No, I'm not the only one to find fault with Groban.

Shortly after I posted those comments yesterday afternoon, there was a big flurry of activity on the Internet!

Yes, Groban fans were in attack mode now.

I laughed!

I am a big fan of this director or that actor - but when other enthusiasts in those areas of interest in the arts disagree with me - I don't get all bent out of shape.

Different strokes for different folks, man!

Notwithstanding the obvious - it appears that a handful of Groban fans - are a little emotionally out-of-whack.

Their wild erratic responses indicate to me - anyway - that they lack the ability (and intelligence) to put forth any reasonable argument to back up any grounds for their nonsensical angry tirades.

Go figure.

Music tends to inspire the emotions.

In the case of Groban fans, they've gone looney tunes.

Grow up!
