John Travolta...indiscreet gay flirting! Kelly Preston ignores snub at trendy diner!

John led around by end of his co**!

According to a gossip-monger at one of the Gay Tabloid Rags, John Travolta's hunger for the sexy companionship of handsome young studs has escalated to the point where he's become shockingly indiscreet in front of his dotting wife and strangers in public.

The mind-boggling tell-all alleges that - at a trendy watering hole in LA LA LAND recently - the former "Saturday Night Fever" star made a blatant pass at a male waiter under the altruistic guise of wanting to "open doors" for the kid who is apparently trying to break into the biz.

Well, on the surface, it appears that the old "casting couch" is alive and well in Hollywood!

Before exiting the chic eatery - and as his wife twiddled-her-thumbs non-plussed across-the-table - John tried to fanagle the telephone number for the up-and-coming (wrong choice of words?) actor.

"Maybe I can help you get a start in film," the aging Lothario (who hangs out in steam rooms at a local gym where he lets it all hang-out) slyly gushed in so many words.

It was pretty much a given that John's overt pass was transparent - enough so - that the other diners supping nearly nearby within earshot (and sight) were aghast.

Couldn't the star have waited 'til Kelly dashed off to the restroom - or headed to the Valet - before lusting after the dude?

In contrast, I crossed paths with a famous actor a few years ago, who exhibited a lot more class (and sensitivity towards his date's feelings) in that regard.

I was in the parking lot at the back of the Globe Theatre one night in full costume - practising my lines before I dashed on stage in Act II - when the star of one of Aaron Spelling's Night-time Soaps trotted out to his parked car with a girlfriend in tow after dining at Hugo's restaurant next door in WeHo.

When our eyes met, it was obvious we were both smitten, but the hottie just gave a wink and moved along (his gal pal none-the-wiser).

After he drove off, I fantasized a bit about what may-have-been.

Then - lo & behold - he returned out-of-the-blue a short while later alone!

"I forgot my credit card," he grinned, as he hopped out of his pricey auto and dashed into the restaurant to allegedly retrieve it.

A few moments later, when he strolled back into the lot, he made a pass right-off-the-bat.

The impromptu clinch was as thrilling (and wild) as a romantic scene in a screwball comedy feature!

Without a moment's hesitation, we hopped into the front seat of my car excitedly, and started to fool around (as best we could under the passionate circumstances).

You see - I was hindered by the fact - I was attired in stockings and lace-up-boots to the knee.

Uh-huh!

I was performing in a period piece - EDWARD III (at the Globe Theatre) - and in full costume!

And, to make matters more maddening, I was required to trot on stage in about ten minutes flat for  my first entrance of the evening.

Needless to say, it was the quickie of all time, even if I do say so myself.

Although the handsome actor (Timothy Patrick Murphy) passed away a few years ago - memories of our brief encounter - often loom large in my dusty old memories (and still make my heart go pitter-patter).

Heh, John, you need to be a little more creative, eh?

Otherwise, the tongues will be wagging all over the town - you'll be on the front page of the trashy Nataional
Enquirer - and Kelly will be filing for divorce.

And, you thought Charlie Sheen was on a slippery slope to hell!

Final parting advice?

Stop being led around by your co**, John, it may get 'ya into serious trouble one of these days.

Amen!

The People I've Slept With...Archie Kao stars in gay-themed comedy! Raunchy sex & underlying potent message...

Throngs of excited fans of the comedy genre braved a long queue on Saturday afternoon that snaked out the front door of the DGA (and beyond) to the curb at the old Virgin Records headquarters.

Light-hearted director, Quentin Lee, was screening his much-anticipated quirky sex romp, aptly titled:  "The People I've Slept With".

To bide the time, strangers actually chatted each other up on the street, as they kept their eye on the front door and continued to  check their watches in frustation.

A joke I offered up triggered a guffaw or two.

"Gosh," I chuckled, "If they were going to do a bio of my sex life, it would have to be a mini-series!"

The response was encouraging for a struggling stand-up comic.

A rarity in the mean streets of LA LA LAND.

Once inside, and comfortably ensconced in our plush seats, the campy hi-jinks commenced.

For instance, filmgoers were asked to locate the number on their seats, so they could determine if they were the big prize-winners for an impromptu raffle which featured sex toys and party favors from Pleasure Chest.

A posse of folks then proceeded to dash up to the mic - to promote an upcoming event or fundraising gala - which stretched the wait to epic proportions.

I guess we were all in for the long haul, like it or not!

Finally, the lights were extinguished and the bemused audience was suddenly face-to-face - "this-close" -  with a pretty young lady talking into camera.

From the gist of the dialogue, it became evident that the character was pregnant, and had come up with the novel idea of capturing some thoughts on video to share with her young one upon coming of age.

Within minutes - the audience was  treated to a bird's eye view of a smattering of provocative (and on occasion) risque raunchy sexual encounters - as the mother recalled  the careless behaviour that led to her dilemma (pregnancy out of wedlock).

At this point, the plot twists moved along quickly, as the main characters sauntered into the landcape.

Right-off-the-bat, Mr. Lee struck  a chord with his rapt audience,  and managed  to tickle their funny bone along the way.

The witty - at times insightful - quips triggered gales of laughter from the filmgoers throughout the course of the film, in fact.

There's never a dull moment in this low-budget, well-crafted,  gay-themed flick.

Uh-huh.

Cheung's best bud is a foot-loose and fancy-free - hot-to-trot - "out" gay male.

"The People I've Slept With" amounts to a porn cable version of the popular TV sitcom - "Will &  Grace".

Indeed!

On the red carpet Mr. Lee proudly beamed that the titillating film is slated to broadcast on Logo in the near future.

In spite of Mr. Lee's preoccupation with - "sex" "sex" "sex" - beneath the sensuous flesh of this slick celluloid offering lies a potent message.

When it comes to a commitment in a relationship, honesty is the key to laying a strong foundation for any loving couple.

Like most big-budget Hollywood romantic sex comedies, there is a happy ending, too.

As we have learned in recent months from the ongoing Federal court case dragging on in San Francisco - gays - like most  normal warm-blooded individuals - pine to ride off into the romantic sunset with Prince Charming.

Thumbs up for entertaining bill-of-fare with an R rating.

Patrick Swayze...succumbs to pancreatic cancer! Marriage of convenience?

Sadly, Patrick Swayze succumbed to pancreatic cancer yesterday at age 57.

For the past few months there was a swirl of gossip and innuendo surrounding Swayze on the heels of a tabloid feature that reported the charismatic star was on his  "death bed" and saying his last good-byes.

In fact, the scandalous heartless feature was the subject of much controversy.

I even jumped into the fray when I happened to turn on the TV one night and caught the tail end of a scurrilous report by Mary Hart on Entertainment tonight.

Frankly, I was so flabbergasted by her lack of sensitivity (and bad taste) that I penned a post on the issue.

Post:  03/12/09

http://ijulian.blogspot.com/2009/03/mary-hartpatrick-swayze-coverage-on.html

Shortly after that, Patrick Swayze sat down with Barbara Walters for an intimate one-on-one interview to set the record straight.

When asked point blank if  he was gettting his affairs in order and preparing for death, Swayze was quite adamant that he was not doing anything of the sort.

Then, he proceeded to lambaste the tabloid press.

In so many words, he labelled their reprehensible "ambulance-chasing" as little more than a ghoulish graveside vigil inflicting mental and emotional cruelty in its wake.

In particular, the star of blockbuster hits such as "Ghost" stressed how hurtful the insensitive conduct was to his immediate family and friends.

Swayze was first diagnosed with the pancreatic cancer in 2008 and from the offset tried to keep his illness under wraps - with the ultimate aim - of facing the life-threatening cancer privately and with a modicum of dignity.

The multi-talented star was a classically-trained dancer.

In spite of that, the talented actor with the infectious smile, managed to shake off  those shackles.

For example, when he burst onto the silver screen in "Dirty Dancing", he introduced a machismo to the realm of dance that no other triple-threat in the industry had managed to accomplish 'til then (or to this day).

The passionate horse-breeder was no slouch when it came to the work ethic, either.

By his own admission, Swayze was also inclined to take risks, too.

There was a lot of integrity lurking behind those engaging dimples!

Although he was offered approximately $7 million bucks to appear in a sequel to "Dirty Dancing", he graciously passed.

Instead, he gussied himself up and sashayed across the screen in full drag in the off-beat comedy:

"To Wong Foo, thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar"

Personally, I found Patrick's portrayal of a "Queen" more entertaining (and believable) that Travolta's offering in "Hairspray".

Understandably, after the film opened, tongues started to wag.

Was Patrick gay - or at least - bisexual?

If so, it was doubtful - for career reasons - that he would ever have "outed" himself.

After all, during the filmmaking era Swayze broke into the Hollywood scene, producers tended to shy away from casting "gay" men when it came to "macho" leading-man roles.

A few years ago, I met a pretty young male actor who claimed to have "dirty danced" with Patrick between the sheets.

Rumors also floated around Hollywood that both he - and his lovely wife - were "gay" and that theirs was a marriage of convenience.

Albeit, one based on a great deal of honesty, mutual respect, and friendship.

It just may have been one of the best-kept secrets in Tinsel Town, eh?

White Party...Jeffrey Sanker labor day soiree in Las Vegas! Sizzlin' hot weekend...

Well, Jeffrey Sanker's White Party sauntered into Las Vegas once again!

To gay men, the much-anticipated annual event is comparable to the super bowl for straight guys.

In fact, from the 3rd of September thru the 8th - the exotic desert oasis will be inundated with a truckload or two of biceps and studly bods hailing from all corners of the civilized planet  (Miami, Paris, New York, and Los Angeles, for starters) - to party-hearty.

Sizzling hot DJ's will rev up dance floors split-up at various venues around Sin City.

Last night, sexual predators on the prowl,  headed off to the "Rum Jungle" at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino and danced their tight little butts off  'til the crack of dawn.

Tonight,  hot 'n hunky dudes will be getting-down to the nitty-gritty at the Hard Labor Krave with DJ Tony Moran in the main room.

Then, there's a sun-kissed party pool tomorrow at the Luxor which no self-respecting rainbow-oriented stud will want to miss!

But, the "White Dress Party" Sunday evening at the House of Blues is sure to pack the biggest whallop!

There's a special treat in store, too!

Lolene will be performing the first release of  "SEXY PEOPLE"  from her highly anticipated debut album "The Electrick Hotel"

While a number of the bodacious boys will kow-tow to tradition and dress to the nines in chic outerwear in pristine shades of white (with a strong display of tats and raw flesh) - a rebellious handful may go for the gusto in sultry black to thumb their noses at the crowd.

Upstarts!

Just betcha there will be a bevy of  wall-walkers, sensual videos, live dancers, and a spectacular light & sound show.

A pride of beauteous boys will no doubt be schmoozing, sashaying, strutting - and likewise - stoking away the night with caution thrown to the cool night breezes fluttering in off the desert.

When I asked a couple of pals if they planned to zip down to the desert hot spot this week, they shrugged.

"We're not into circuit parties."

Yes - the annual event is known to be part of the "circuit" - a high-profile boy-toy weekend out with a naughty reputation, to boot.

The phenomenon first sprang from early tea dances (wild rainbow-themed parties) tossed on Fire Island in the heady days of gay liberation a couple of decades ago.

The circuit soirees came on the heels of underground rave parties, and were run by savvy multi-sexual trend-setters, who publicized and professionally produced 'em with a lot pizzazz.

As a result, the must-attend parties attracted a scintillating social mix.

Show-biz music headliners were also booked to lure in the trendy jet-set.

While the parties are open to anyone these days, the circuit events are generally perceived as social hubs for the active gay man.

A big attraction?

The highly-touted offerings are typically lavish, prestigious affairs - with elaborate lighting, music, and decor with widespread appeal to the A-list man - held in venues that can accommodate their all-encompassing circle of friends.

But, the events are costly.

Even the most far-reaching party-goers don't attend all the events; after all, there are too many calendared across a wide expanse to afford a catch-all for most.

If a die-hard circuit officionado manages to pull off the stunt, then he's truly a golden circuit boy, by any stretch of the imagination.

Circuit parties are known to attract a broad demographic - from shy young dudes just out - to totally liberated gays in their mid-twenties and up active in the rainbow hub.

Expect to spy a handful of well-tooled silver-haired "daddies" in their 50s, too.

Couples in long-term relationships are still inclined to savor the events also.

In essence, the parties are a tribal cultural event.

Some say, circuit parties are analogous to a ritual holiday for the gay/lesbian/transgender community and a "celebration" of gay life, liberated sexuality, and freedom of expression.

In sum, the white party experience is a war cry that calls attention to the power, strength, and unity of the gay community.

Critics allege that circuit parties are a breeding ground for illicit drug abuse, though.

Throngs of young vibrant men, bent on partying all night - and enhancing each glorious sensual moment - are known to use the addictive booster "Tina" (known as meth and crystal).

For this reason, there has been a concerted effort by responsible members of the community to curb an outbreak of addiction, which has proven to be costly for many participants.

Some have lost their jobs, lovers, vibrant health, self-esteem - and a capacity to thirst for precious life - due to chronic addiction.

Many outreach programs have raised concerns about the underpinnings of circuit parties; particularly, with regard to the misuse of drugs (alcohol, marijuana, speed and ecstasy).

The warnings about potential overdose, dehydration, and impaired judgment (leading to unsafe sex and transmission of sexually transmitted diseases) have been underscored, but often fall on deaf ears.

In fact, circuit parties have been blamed for crystal addiction and the rampant transmission of a handful of virulent sexually-transmitted diseases - such as HIV and Hepatitis - among gay men within the borders of North America.

Notwithstanding, the circuit parties have been bad-mouthed on the grounds that they are superficial, too.

The whole emphasis, for example, appears to be on looks, sexual appeal, and being with the "in" crowd.

If you feel embarrassed about taking your shirt off, then you may feel uncomfortable at the Las Vegas weekend blast.

After all, guys around the country have been working out for months to sculpt the perfect body to show off at the extravaganza next weekend.

When these dudes toss off their "T's", to reveal perfect pecs and rippling abs, heads will swoon.

An adrenalin rush for everyone, no doubt.

But, the cries of hedonism are not unfounded.

Just flip through any major gay lifestyle magazine. Half the ads are for plastic surgery, nose jobs, and teeth whitening. The other fifty percent are blurbs for lawyers who specialize in DUI's and lewd conduct in public places.

Does this reflect the underbelly of the gay culture, warts and all?

No matter, just because a handful of revelers are inclined to overindulge, doesn't mean you can't get away for a zesty day or two of fun in the desert with your "brothers and sisters".

The VIP high-profile events have been orchestrated by pro party person - affable Jeffrey Sanker - the undisputed "King of White".

A few years ago, as I was munching on a salad at the front counter at the ever-popular French Marketplace, Sanker and I engaged in idle chit-chat.

Of course, I didn't have a clue who the young hottie was.

In the course of the conversation, I guess I dropped a bombshell, when I innocently batted my eyelashes and quipped.
\"And, what do you do?"

I throw parties," he responded without hesitation.
Later, I learned that was quite an understatement, if ever there was on
But, you don't have to attend all the scintillating events, or haul your a** into the dark starry night 24/7.

Or fall prey to peer pressure, either.

Just drop down on the sidelines at the pool party, sip on an exotic cocktail or two, and quietly take in a few rays.

Or, top off a day of sight-seeing with an energy-boosting appearance at one of the party extravaganzas later in the evening, before heading home.

Say "no" to Tina, though!

Chastity Bono...pursues sex change! A man in a woman's body?

Even revellers at the weekend Gay Pride celebration in West Hollywood were surprised when the startling news flash zig zagged around the globe.

Chastity Bono announced her decision to have a sex change operation to become a man.

The sexual identity scenario faced by Cher's daughter raises a couple of intriguing questions.

Did Ms. Bono encounter mental and emotional (even physical difficulties) when she tried to pursue a loving lesbian relationship with another woman in her current sexual persona?

Once Chastity goes under the knife - and ultimately transforms into a man - will any relationship she pursues with a woman in the future be considered a heterosexual one?

I applaud her courage in "coming out" on the issue.

When I was a teenager, anyone who declared themselves "gay" (we didn't use that term in those days") was considered "queer" and ripe for therapy.

One doctor, if I recall correctly, asserted that he could "treat" homosexuals and cure them of their "affliction" so that they could go on to live happy (normal) lives in nurturing straight relationships.

Personally, I've always felt that the individual (and society) should go along with the natural inclination (sexual instinct) instead of fighting it (oftentimes with disastrous heartbreaking results).

I recall the wild musings that rumbled around the world when the Christine Jorgensen story broke a few decades ago.

In the "dark ages" of sexual identity - and gender-bending - it was quite a mind-blower.

According to Ms. Jorgensen, it was simply a case of a man being born in the wrong body at birth.

I'm sure glad there weren't any slip-ups like that when I arrived in the world a bundle of joy!

To this day, when Jorgensen's name pops up on the news or in a conversation, it triggers an image of her stepping off an airplane waving happily to reporters and curious onlookers after the transformation was complete.

Many more have paved the way since - so, I expect the journey will be easier for Ms. Bono - who appears to be bent on resolving her sexual identity crisis.

Well, she's got ba**s, that's for sure!

Twitter...Alan Lambert fans following moi! Quips an alert?

Adam Lambert doll on sale now!
(movable parts optional)

Shortly after I penned a tongue-in-cheek post about Adam Lambert's announcement that he is - oh my gosh - "gay", the twitter site revealed that a gaggle of the Pop Siren's fans have jumped on the (uh-huh) "bandwagon".

They're following moi!

How festive...

But, a thought did cross my mind.

Are they chuckling along with me, or keeping an eye-out for impropriety?

Twitter...Ellen DeGeneres tweets gifts! Good gal to follow...

For those of you who toil away in the afternoon at work and don't have the opportunity to sneak a peak at America's favorite token "lesbo" talk-show host, be forewarned.

Unless you tweet, you'll be left out in the dark when it comes to "treats".

Yup, from my Divine Divan one lazy afternoon, I caught one segment of the Ellen Show in which the quirky dresser announced to the rapt audience that she was going to use her Twitter-time to gift viewers and tweeters alike.

To demonstrate, the ball*y comedian broadcast a small clip which captured three young ladies turning up at a bus shop to snatch up tickets for the show which Ellen & her staff planted there, before a random tweet invited adventurers to scout 'em down.

A lone woman turned up at the location within minutes of the tweet going out.

She proceeded to slyly search the drop-off area on the down-low to ensure she didn't tip off any other contestants as to the possible whereabouts of the coveted prize.

As luck would have it, on the heels of her arrival, she spied two excited ladies scurrying down the street in her direction, so she was forced to abandon ship and nonchalantly drifted off out-of-sight with the obvious intention to return.

Not a smart move!

The two aggressive interlopers spotted the tickets in a jiffy!

And, ended up on Ellen's afternoon show.

The perky blond has a gaggle of hilarious off-beat ideas that tickle my funny - um - bone.

For instance, she conjured up a delicious scheme to ensure that pesky adverts that fly out from inside the pages of slick magazines don't end up littering the streets.

"Replace the flyers with money," she giggled.

The audience roared!

Now, if she could only manage to sell Publisher's Clearing house on the idea.

Hang in there, dreamboat!

As to me, well, I would be remiss if I did not admit that Ellen's dance segments drive me batty!

Portia's better-half isn't cool-lookin' at all when she trips-the-light fantastic across the stage and up into the aisles on a wing and a prayer.

If you ask me, the men's clothing she sports each day, may be restricting her rhythm (and menstrual flow, quite possibly, ya know?)

Portia, get her out to Arthur Murray's, pronto!

Well, I gotta go.

Who knows, maybe the engaging TV personality will be tweeting about a nifty party she's throwing @ Pink's in Hollywood - with free hot dogs and all the trimmings - since an HD Video I just shot there revealed her pretty little face beaming down from one wall on the tables below.

I feel a tweet coming on.

See 'ya there!

American Idol...Adam Lambert fesses up! Uh, Ho Hum...

'Ya sure fooled us with this Butch look, Adam!

In an unexpected news flash this morning, an entertainment reporter breathlessly announced to the masses around the country that American Idol "instant-famer" has confessed.

He's gay!

Whoa Nellie!

Was he the last dude on the planet to figure it out?

TMZ...Harvey Levin t-shirt! If it fits, then wear it...

As I strolled along the Vegas strip amid throngs of tourists partying heartily over the long weekend, I spied a t-shirt at one of the outdoor flea markets that gossip-monger Harvey Levin would feel comfortable in!

It read:

"I like boys with big toys."

Now there's some titillating dish for 'ya, eh?

Lindsay Lohan...scandal! Perez Hilton & gal pal maneuver in the courts!

There was an amusing tale in the morning paper about a fiasco that has erupted in the courts because gossip-mongers in the blogosphere speculated that a gal pal in the shadow of actress Lindsay Lohan was her lover!

The scuttlebutt is a tad convoluted - and like any alleged love tryst - twisted wickedly in the wind enough to cause tongues to wag!

For that, some have gotten their di**s caught in a wringer.

Here it is in a nutshell.

Allegedly, a young woman was seen squiring (?) Lohan around town, so - hot-shot gossip maven Perez Hilton - was inclined to speculate that the hanger-on was the star's main squeeze.

The gossip escalated to such a high degree that harsh words and wild accusations sizzled back-and-forth between the principals in its tawdry wake.

In fact, the woman in question was so incensed by the intense glare of the spotlight shone on her by Perez - among others - that she hot-footed it to a lawyer's office to file suit.

In her pleading, the femme fatale accused Perez Hilton of falsely alleging she was Lohan's girl-toy between the sheets, and thereafter, caused her undue stress and anxiety when he further mocked and scorned her when he graced the pages of his website in a defamatory T-shirt (!) that wildly lamented she was - oh my gosh! - a lesbot!

To fan the flames, Perez allegedly pointed a finger, and accused the upstart social-climber of "crimes" of a more sinister speculative nature.

For example, after the police arrived at the scene of a fender-bender, a small quantity of cocaine was allegedly discovered in the late model Mercedes Benz owned by the actress.

After Perez sources whispered in his ear - that the ever at-her-side escort was known to be an addict - the King of dish was inclined to play Nancy Drew and put two and two together.

And, may have come up with - um - five.

But, the truth is a long way off, just yet.

Just shortly before Perez was to give a deposition in the contentious legal proceedings (he's screaming 1st Amendment Rights) the plaintiff got into a tizzy with her own attorney and now the winsome (lose some?) two-some are out-of-sorts.

In fact, the dotty Miss has filed a malpractice suit against her legal counsel for allegedly botching the case.

Whew!

Here is the dilemma as I perceive it.

For starters, I checked out the woman's photo in the newspaper.

Frankly - she's a dog - folks!

If I were her, I'd count myself lucky that gossip-mongers were alleging an affair with such a luscious babe.

Lady - and I use the term loosely - you should have said thanks and moved on!

As to the issue of the libel (written word) and nasty slander (uttered falsehoods) a couple of niggling legal issues are obvious from the get-go.

For one, it's kind of frivolous to file suit on the grounds that someone called you a lesbot.

A handful of decent upstanding citizens have been called worse.

For example, years ago a gentleman - angered over the fact he was called an "a**hole" - proceeded to file a lawsuit for damages.

It sounds bizarre, I know, but the case actually snaked its way to the Supreme Court.

In fact, on behalf of the court, Justice Scalia penned an "opinion" that struck the deadly blow.

After an in-depth analysis of the derogatory term - and an appropriate legal review - the Justices were in accord.

The lawsuit lacked merit on legal grounds and was summarily dismissed.

Today, you can hurl the insult - **hole! - at any individual and not be sued for it.

Some things are still sacred, I guess!

To win the cause of action on the lesbian label - well - the young lady would have to establish to the court that she is not a "lesbot", for starters.

Also, she would have the burden of proving that the "insult" was not only a falsehood, but written (or uttered) with malicious and/or hurtful intent.

For example, in the wake of the Proposition 8 fall-out, being falsely labelled a lesbian may have resulted in serious repercussions in a family circle or in an employment situation.

The strongest cause of action, in my mind's eye, arises from the the allegation that the drugs belonged to Lohan's friend.

Just because a person is taking drugs - and may have been a passenger in a Mercedes - does not (by any stretch of the imagination) mean a person can take a leap and assume that the drugs belonged to that individual.

On that issue, Perez may have crossed the line.

But, in view of the way the drama is unfolding with the malpractice suit, Perez (gosh, he must have horseshoes up his a**, eh?) may get off the hook scott-free.

Bottom line, if an individual is into "gossiping" and "tattling" (who moi?) on celebrities, it is of the utmost importance that he or she phrase their words carefully to avoid potential land mines along the way.

If a writer follows that credo, they'll remain out of harm's way.

For instance, to remain within the realms of journalistic ethics, a reporter would be wise to note for the record there were "rumors" of drug-taking, an addiction, and so forth and so on.

Not assert it, without firming up the truth first.

Or, the writer may facilitate a trick of the trade by noting - in the instant case of Lohan, for example - that "sources" close to the star disclosed this 'n that.

I studied law, so I am mindful of all of this when I pen a post.

In the final analysis, the scenario unfolding in the Lohan/Perez matter, signals the obvious.

There's a lot of tit-for-tat going on in a circle of clueless immature individuals.

And, the lawyers may be the worst offenders.

Let's hope the Judge shakes some sense into all of 'em.

Immanuel Kant once opined:

"Immaturity is the incapacity to use one's own intelligence without the guidance of another."

Michael Phelps...Barbara WaWa has sights set on interview with swim champion!

In the next couple of weeks, Barbara Walters will tackle an interview with America's hunky sweetheart, Michael Phelps.

In the event Ms. Walters is inclined to pose the question - "If you were a tree, what kind of a tree would you be?" - I expect the Olympic Champion's response to be forthcoming.

A towering Oak, perhaps?

Undoubtedly, the gold-medal winner's sex life will be fair game, too.

After all, when Ricky Martin appeared on a special one year - which coincided with widespread rumors about his sexuality - Ms. Walters had no qualms quizzing the heart-throb about a question foremost on inquiring minds everywhere.

Are you gay, Ricky?

The Latin Lothario's reluctance to respond - caught off guard was he? - spoke volumes to most Americans!

Yup, he's a fag!

Unless Michael can rustle up a girlfriend between now and the broadcast date, I expect Walters will grill the sexy stud on the hotseat, too.

Of course, Ms. Walters will have tender moments when she focuses on Michael's tough and troubled childhood.

Being raised by a single mother, with limited funds and resources, is always the kind of background fodder that tugs on the heart strings, no matter who the subject.

A couple of questions are ripe for her scalpel.

Were you a happy kid?

What was it with that Fu Manchu moustache, anyway?

Be straight with me, Michael. How did you break that arm, really?

In spite of the fact the insightful Walters will probe where no other woman has gone before - and saunter into naughty territory where she has no business venturing along the wet-and-slippery way - she'll end the lobotomy with a sweet smile and a cute little quip.

I've got one.

You've been such a sport, Michael!

Michael Phelps...gay gossip inspires quote. It's a guy thing!

Rumor and speculation abound...

A couple of days ago I penned a post noting that a sports writer at the TIMES was hinting that Olympic Swimmer - Michael Phelps - might be gay.

Shortly thereafter, the Internet was all a-buzz with speculation.

Today, Kevin Van Valkenburg (a sports writer) asserted for the record that - not only is Phelps straight - but that he has a girlfiend.

However, Kevin poohed poohed suggestions by TMZ that the woman in question was a fellow swimmer.

After a clever cat 'n mouse game, the columnist finally concluded by espousing a philosophical message which I perceive as the quote of the day:

"Some things in a guy's life deserve to be kept private."

He got that right.

Like, what kind of condoms he uses. And - in particular - whether he springs for premium-size latex or "one size fits all".

Yeah, quite a few guys hang in the humbler category.

Then, there's the issue of lovemaking. A woman should never disclose that he likes it doggie-style or missionary-style - or even if he likes to talk dirty - when he gets down 'n nasty.

And, it's a definite no-no to talk about the size - um - grandeur (or lack thereof) of his man tool.

Don't want to give him a Napoleon complex, do 'ya?

By the way, guys - if you ever decide to check out your best buddy (at the urinal, in the locker room, or while showering) to fathom what he's got hanging between his muscular limbs that turns the women (or guys) on - just remember one thing.

Not all studs are "showers".

Uh-huh. Some dudes are "growers".

While flaccid, a regular Joe may look like his co** is the size of a church mouse's.

But, once aroused, his "Johnson" may turn into a roaring monster.

Yup.

That's how legends are born!

If it doesn't fit, you can't convict...

Lindsay Lohan...lesbo? Chief Bratton sullies color of authority by alleging so!

Rainbow colors hint at sexual persuasion...

Lesbians around the country were obviously titillated this morning when they opened their morning daily to read Lindsay Lohan allegedly turned gay!

The revelation popped out of the mouth of Chief William Bratton at an inaugural meeting for a task force of elected officials, law enforcement leaders, and others seeking to regulate what they perceive as frenzied irresponsible conduct by the local paparazzi whenever they are in search of their celebrity targets.

Yes, the heated debate is revving up once again.

Although singer John Mayer and actor Eric Roberts turned up ready to toss their two cents worth in, Chief Bratton was ready to call it a day.

In fact, he declared the ballsy effort a farce!

"If you notice, since Britney started wearing clothes, Paris is out of town and not bothering anybody anymore, thank God, and evidently Lindsay Lohan has gone gay, we don't seem to have much of an issue."

In sum - he argued that existing laws were sufficient to curb the lens hounds - but not before accusing "misbehaving stars" of being the cause of ninety-percent of the problem.

And, he pointed an accusing finger at City Councilman Dennis P. Zine, for needlessly fanning the flames.

Zine was quick to a throw a deft one-two punch back!

"They (paparazzi) act like a pack of wolves stalking their prey. What we're trying to do is prevent a tragedy from happening."

Then, he zeroed in on Bratton for acting inappropriately under the color of authority.

In fact, the irate politician has asked the Police Commission to investigate Bratton's comments about Lohan's alleged sexual orientation. In support of his complaint, he noted for the record that any regular police officer on the force would be investigated and possibly disciplined for making such an outlandish remark while on the City payroll.

Bratton countered by lamenting that controlling the paparazzi was like trying to "herd cats".

Maybe that's why the focus on Lohan's pu**y came to the fore.

Still waiting to hear from Lindsay's camp!

Billy Crystal...attended panel discussion on "Gay" contributions to TV. Bruce Vilanch hosted!

Bruce Vilanch was in top form last night at a panel discussion on behalf of the TV Academy - celebrating Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender contributions to the medium - both in front of and behind the camera.

As the President and CEO of the prestigious TV Academy noted, recognition "has been long overdue."

And, there were a number of treats in store for the rapt audience.

For example, there were guest appearances by Tracy Scoggins (Babylon 5), Ant (Last Comic Standing), Amanda Bearse (Married with Children), and David Alan Grant (30 Something).

Billy Crystal wowed the packed house when he sauntered out and fondly reminisced about - "SOAP" - a ground-breaking comedy show in the 70's in which he played one of the first major gay characters on the little boob tube when depictions of that sort were not in vogue.

The delightful star surprised fans when he noted for the record that - at first - he was reticent about taking on the colorful role about a fey young man who gets his jollies dressing up in his Mother's clothes

"Originally, there was just one scripted line, but by the third episode, the character had been fully-fleshed out on the show."

Believe it or not, the celebrated funnyman got more flack from his family, when the send-up first broadcast on Network TV.

"You're playing a fagala?"

In fact, when he signed on the dotted line, it never crossed his mind negative reactions might surface outside the studio, as well.

For instance, he laughingly recalled strolling down New York Streets, taken aback a bit when construction workers and cabbies pointed out the oddity.

"Heh, there's that "gay guy" from that wacky TV show, Soap.

And, during the weekly tapings before a live audience, nervous giggles often burst out from behind the footlights when the subject of intimacy with a male love interest was broached, he noted with some disdain.

But - within a couple of seasons (perhaps due to the charm and wit of the character and Crystal's ability to inhabit a role so convincingly) middle America had not only warmed up to the cross-dresser - but was rooting for him in a child custody battle in what amounted to a "controversial" first for the staid conservative medium.

In fact, that message tended to be the theme of the evening's dialogue.

Gosh, look how far "gay" characters have come since those pioneer moments of yesteryear when depictions of homosexuals were either awkward, stereotypical, or downright clueless!

For example, a clip from the "Golden Girls" threw the spotlight on Estelle Getty's character when she innocently conjectured that Danny Thomas was "gay".

The studio audience went into hysterics for a moment or two.

Tthen, her daughter (played by Bea Arthur) pointed out that Mr. Thomas was actually "Lebanese", not Lesbian.

Cheap shots?

David Alan Grant - who was a regular on "30 Something" in its heyday - joked about the mood around the set the day the first screen kiss between two male characters was going to be taped for broadcast on a mainstream Network TV Show.

"It was like the set was radioactive."

In anticipation of the stupendous moment - all the crew guys and staffers swaggered about the set acting nonchalant and "butch-like" with a kind-of "just doing my job" attitude about 'em - that thickly permeated one end of the stage to the other.

Who me, a fag? No way, Jose.

The soft-spoken likable Grant confessed that he was in the closet for years, and afraid to "come out", for fear he might lose work. Ironically, the first job he was offered was - you got it - to play a gay character.

In the hit Broadway production - "Bent" - Grant ended up playing opposite charismatic Richard Gere.

Bruce Vilanch - a top comedy writer known for his hilarious guest appearances on Hollywood Squares - recalled his early days in Hollywood, too.

Drawing from his own life experiences in New York - he conjured up what he thought was a "novel idea" at the time - a side-splitting sitcom about a straight woman and a gay male who become room-mates.

"I pictured Sandy Duncan and Tommy Tune in the roles."

The audience roared!

The network execs were more harsh in their assessment.

"Whatever were you thinking?"

Twenty years later "Will & Grace" (similarly-themed bill-of-fare) became a big hit with American audiences on prime-time television.

Perhaps, it was all about timing.

Or, maybe by a fluke of fate, there had just been a fortuitous turn in consciousness down a rainbow alley somewhere along the way.

Essentially, that was part of the message from the panel.

The TV Academy was giving a nod (and openly acknowledging) that because of the deliberate exemplary efforts of a handful of insightful pioneer gay writers and actors, characters of diverse sexuality have become part 'n parcel of the American landscape in recent years in high-profile projects.

In some cases, great strides had even been made in glaring controversial ways.

In respect to, "Queer as Folk", for example.

Curiously, with "Queer", there was a bit of a novel reversal.

A predominate number of the characters - not just a couple - were openly gay and screaming proud of it!

In that instant case, it was a bit of a tough row to hoe.

Undoubtedly, Hollywood's "gay mafia" - ever-focused on transmitting positive images of the gay community into the mainstream consciousness - would have preferred to have toned down the explosion of graphic images depicting a promiscuous lifestyle they found injurious to the cause.

But, the intimate tales that unfolded around those story lines, cried out to be told.

And, when the demographics were plumbed, a number of eyebrows were raised.

The research revealed that the longevity of the titillating pot-boiler was due - in large part - to a straight female viewership around the country.

When the question was posed as to why that sector tuned in, the responses were not only surprising, but downright insightful.

Bruce Vilanch chortled, "Straight women love to watch gay porn."

Another female panelist offered up her opinion based on conversations she'd engaged in with a cross-section of fans of the cable offering in the recent past.

"I talked to some straight women. And, they said they watched "Queer" because it gave them a glimpse into the male psyche and a rare opportunity to fathom an emotional side of men not found elsewhere on television."

That revelation elicited quite a reaction from audience members who chatted for a moment or two amongst themselves excitedly.

When there was a lull, the guest concluded,

"After all, society dictates that men are supposed to be real macho and conceal their feelings."

"DL Chronicles" - another gay-themed showed represented at the forum - figured differently into the scenarios discussed.

The drama focuses on a handful of Afro-American gay men exploring their sexuality on the "down low", for fear of retribution from an unrelenting anti-gay black community.

While the white actors, writers, and execs proudly asserted TV was definitely "out"- and that there had been a lot of progress in gaining favor with the American public in recent years - the two creators of the "Chronicles" (male lovers) were conflicted.

In essence, they were being forced to tip-toe around a "mine field", because of a double-whammy.

"There a lot of negative images of blacks right now in America, in addition to the negative ones associated with gays. So, it's tough for us because we have to try to responsibly deal with the two issues in a way that the black community will warm up to."

The African American community - unlike their Caucasian counterpart - still grapples with the homosexual "thing" apparently and has trouble accepting it.

Subsequently, the creators complained they continually feel the heat.

For them, there has been a lot of pressure because of an all-encompassing need to satisfy a demanding community, who defiantly want it "their way".

"At times, I just want to say "fu** it."

In fact, initially, they hid their sexual preferences from even close friends and relatives; indeed, they never intimated the nature of their close "relationship".

Whenever relatives came to visit, for example, a half of the two-some would move into the guest room and take on the role of "room-mate" temporarily during the stay.

Yes, a real charade was going down for the sake of appearances.

"Black gays take on a lot of flack, too. Because of being on the down-low, we are accused of spreading A.I.D.S. and that sort-of-thing."

In spite of the dilemmas faced, each tried to come out; in baby steps, mind you.

The one actor who hails from Chicago - jokingly noted that he finally broke down and informed his Mother about his deep dark secret - thinking that it would be safe.

Later, however, he learned she told everyone in Chicago about his sexual preference.

Imagine that, being outed by your own Mother!

Now, there's a tale for Oprah.

Near the tail end of the insightful forum there was a bit of focus on transgender issues, as well.

A couple of well-known personalities (Candis Cayne, for one ) who are actively being cast in roles - as extensions of themselves - poignantly recalled that when they were growing up and stumbling about in search of their sexual identities, there were few role models available to mold themselves after.

In fact - whenever they channel-surfed - the images society projected didn't jive or fit at all. So, they were forced to blaze their own trails, be their own role models, and fend for themselves.

Although "transgenders" per se are garnering respect in the industry, and landing plum gay-related roles in the duration, things could be better.

"Why not cast a gay man for a straight role. And a transgender woman a female role?" one panelist wondered aloud.

As the retrospective musings panned out near the end of the thought-provoking two-hour discussion, it was evident that far-reaching in-roads have been made in recent years.

In spite of the fact the big four networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox) dominate - I expect the fledgling efforts of Logo TV (gay cable) - may give rise to another prominent force on the airwaves.

The emergence of the LGBT Network!

Who knows, maybe Ted Turner will flick on the switch!

Actually - producers like Norman Lear, Aaron Spelling, and Witt-Thomas - were applauded by the panelists for introducing gay characters into major story lines over the past couple of decades which have impacted the terrain greatly.

One exec noted:

"You don't have to be a visionary. Just know there is a need or an interest."

In spite of the fact - Lear, Spelling and Witt-Thomas maneuvered from a straight perspective - they endeavoured to enlighten the masses about gay issues and succeeded.

One of the first sponsors on Logo TV, funnily enough, was a vaginal infection cream.

Today, the gay-themed cable network boasts prestigious sponsors in the big advertising arena who are unflinching in their support, in spite of high-pressure tactics from anti-gay organizations and religious fundamentalists.

Although a handful of gay-themed shows are wrapping up this season - and likewise being bundled up for syndication heaven ("The L Shaped Room" and "Queer as Folk") - industry professionals noted there is no cause for alarm because the mainstream is now populated with a host of gay characters woven into the natural fabric of society.

And, what a rich tapestry that has become.
