No Age...to appear on Dave Letterman! January 7th!

 

If you've ever cruised over to my YouTube site, you probably grooved to a few of the "No Age "Videos I have posted over the past year or so.

In Los Angeles -  "No Age" - is a bit of a cult band that has caught the imagination of the country in recent years.

The dynamic musical sound is basically a two-person band consisting of guitarist Randy Randall and drummer Dean Allen Spunt.

At last notice, "No Age" was signed to Sub Pop records.

Fans have been able to satisfy their hunger for their eclectic offerings by catching the band at a downtown artsfy-fartsy venue known as The Smell.

In fact, both musicians have established musical bonds with a thriving underground music scene on the West Coast.

"No Age" has released 3 albums that I know of. 

If anything, the lads are prolific, in respect to churning out potential hit material.

In addition to their own focus on the LA Music scene, both Musicians support organizations that give a jump start to budding performers anxious to get established in the biz.

Randall and Spunt support "All-ages Movement Project" - for instance - an organization that connects youth to each other and to the arts.

Inside sources at the Dave Letterman Late Show have informed me that the hotties will be performing on the New-York-based talk show on January 7th.

Lady Gaga...Poker face slips as Justin Bieber zooms to top slot! Oh, baby!

In recent weeks, the mercurial Lady Gaga - oh she - of the wild madcap chapeau, racy (at times avant-garde) tribally-inspired ritual garb inclined to incite, and ubiquitous towering heel (OMG!) - had much to shake her gender-bending image about.

At the " World Music Awards", for instance, the pop flavor of the year  was singled out - and consequently - buoyed up into the International glare of the musical spotlight when she nabbed four  coveted trophies in top prestigious categories such as Best New Artist, Best Single, Best Album, and Best Pop Rock Artist.

And, just this past week, the Pop Diva boasted that her fan base on Facebook was just rocking - thank you very much - at a staggering 10 million plus.

Unfortunately, just yesterday, there was a hiccup.

"Poker Face" - 'til now the most-highly-viewed video on YouTube - was left idling in stardust when Justin Bieber's pop hit (BABY) zoomed into the blogosphere a silver bullet.

Imagine the creative outcome, if Justin & Lady Gaga knocked heads on a studio recording session, or two.

The dynamic duo would take the free world by storm.

Music is the Universal language, after all!

Ellen DeGeneres...launches record label! Bieber contender vys for spotlight...

Ellen DeGeneres intends to make a big splash as a record mogul with the launching of a label she'll christen "eleveneleven".

Next Wednesday, the perky talk show host will officially announce her entrance into the high-stakes world of the music industry.

DeGeneres is pinning her hope chest on a dazzling YouTube whiz - Greyson Michael Chance - who recently rustled up 30-million hits when music lovers scrambled to catch his rendition of Lady Gaga's hit song "Paparazzi".

The video-taped performance was originally recorded at a Church talent show in Edmond (Oklahoma).

Guess the Lord liked what he heard and pulled a few strings behind the scenes with his invisible hand  to give the kid a boost into the spotlight, eh?

Just recently, the young singer/pianist expressed his wonder over his good fortune.

"It's crazy thinking about 30 million people," Chance said.

"It just makes me happy. It really hasn't sunken in yet. It's awesome."

Chance has signed on with the Management team that handles Madonna and Lady Gaga.

Not shoddy at all!

The YouTube site has either been "knocked out" (overwhelmed by users) or is down for maintenance.

When I attempted to access the site a few minutes ago, I received he following message on an otherwise blank page:

What gives?

U.S. Supreme Court...votes down YouTube broadcast of gay-marriage trial!

High Court continues stay of YouTube broadcast!

In a 5-4 vote, the U.S. Supreme court ruled to continue the "stay" on a YouTube broadcast of the Proposition 8 trial (relating to gay-marriage issues in the State of California) currently underway in San Francisco.

The Justices did not issue  an official opinion stating on what grounds the "emergency" appeal (filed by Proposition 8 litigants) was denied.

A lone dissenter had no qualms about voicing his disapproval, though.

Justice Stephen G. Breyer, asserted in his dissent, that  the court's standard for granting a stay was not met in his view.

"The papers  did not show a likelihood of  irreparable harm," the Justice stated for the record in so many words.

In their concise order, the Justices (in essence) said they were quashing the move by U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker  - "permitting real-time streaming" of the trial  - except as it permitted streaming to other rooms within the confines of the courthouse in which the trial was being held.

Sarah Brightman...boo! hiss!

If you're like me, when you hop on the net to play, work - or just plain surf through the blogosphere - you may be inclined to snap on the headphones and pipe in some background music as you tool around.

Today, my body is gently lilting to Dvorak's "New World Symphony" (Going Home).

Why, even Olympic Gold Medalist - Michael Phelps - is infamous for tuning his ear to some heady upbeat tunes to add a bit of splash to the water games.

The other morning I was in a mood for - gosh darn it, I confess - melodramatic song stylings by Sarah Brightman.

But, lo and behold!

When I clicked on the video to spank that monkey?

Nada!

At first, I thought the earplugs weren't resting soundly in the socket.

No Sir, all systems were a go.

Ah, maybe the volume was on mute?

When that panned out, I glanced up at the screen and spied a message from youtube.

And then, the ugly truth befell me.

"No longer available. EMI has claimed rights to this tune."

Boo! Hiss!

I'm mad as he** and I'm not going to take it anymore.

In fact, I'm going to burn all the Sarah Brightman CDs I don't own.

Well, that's the crux of it, eh?

Ms. Brightman is heading out on a leg of a concert tour, so why should her label offer up the music for free?

Even still, I think the scurrilous strategy was a boo-boo.

Videos on youtube are generally a bit fuzzy anyway, for starters.

So, I'm inclined to believe that in view of that - and if given the half-the-chance to get cozy with a performer - music lovers may just go out and buy a brand spanking new CD in the end scenario.

You blew it, Sarah!

The Manny...male nannies the rage!

The New York Times reported recently that a New York Socialite is producing a video based on her best-selling book "The Manny".

Directed by Michael Jaffe, it appears to a pot-boiler, of sorts.

The publishers are hoping that it will be this season's answer to another popular hit "The Devil wears Prada".

What is a "Manny"?

The lens focuses on a relatively new phenomenon: a look at the privileged rich who are "hiring" male nannies to keep their tots in tow.

"The Manny" chronicles the trend towards the male hiring of nannies "...to expose sons to the sort of informal knowledge about sports and girls that nannies and workaholic fathers were not delivering."

There was a hot-bed of activity around the original manuscript written by Holly Petersen. After a feverish auction, with many key players jockeying for control, Dial Press won out with the top bid.

The finished video will be posted on YouTube and features sizzlin' rap and a number of celebrity cameos.

The "Manny" is being portrayed by a 29-year-old model named Johannes Huebl known around the late night party circuit as Joe Hotness (I kid you not).
