Hackers...Epsilon security breach @ Banking Institutions! Plays havoc with computers!

Nasty intruders tripped up my blog reports!

The other night when a news alert flashed across the airwaves on the networks about a security breach at major financial institutions (Epsilon) around the country, I didn't give the issue too much thought.

For the most part, I do not bank "online", or risk compromising my computer by opening up any unsolicited e-mails.

But, the hackers got me, nonetheless.

As it turns out, I clicked on a communication from one financial institution I have an account with - at which point - a shit-load of computer glitches descended on me.

For hours, I struggled to get my PC up-and-running, but not without a lot of hair-pulling, and cussing, and what-have you.

I was particularly annoyed when a report on a couple of blog posts - info on the "Season Opener" for the Giants, for instance - ended up with incorrect factual information being published.

When I attempted to go back, edit, and correct the snafus - however - I was denied access to the dashboard on the blogspot web site.

Needless to say, a couple of glaring mistakes remained posted all day, which left me looking-the-fool (to say the least!).

Just now, at the witching hour, I have managed to access the site - update the information - and go to bed satisfied with a job well done.

Like the Giants, I may be a Champion in many respects, but I am not  perfect.

Hang in there with me, it gets better!

See 'ya!

Toshiba...Satellite laptop junk! Best Buy lemon a plague...

Satellite Model L455-S5975
A lemon!

Don't let the sleek high-tech outercase fool 'ya.

Or, be tempted to snap up the conveniently-sized laptop because Best Buy is seemingly selling it at generous bargain-basement prices.

It fact, it may be wise to take a gander of my review of BEST BUY, too.

http://ijulian.blogspot.com/2009/12/best-buydeceptive-business-practises.html

The truth of the matter?

Toshiba's Satellite Model L455-S5975 is a piece of junk!

Uh-huh!

I am one of the hapless consumers who purchased the Toshiba laptop at Best Buy on a Christmas Day sale and I've been regretting the purchase ever since day one.

The cursor zig zags across the screen at whim (a hover adjustment won't correct the snafu), posts vanish into thin air shortly after I hit the publish button (in spite of the fact the data was saved), and odd-ball error warnings confuse the heck out of me.

For instance, after drafting and editing a post to publish to the "Tattler" web site - instead of flashing onto the world wide web post- haste at the flick of my finger - a dialogue box may pop up that is downright perplexing.
"Could not perform function due to conflict of edits"

Huh?

Once a piece is edited, it's edited, isn't it?

How could there be a conflict?

And, on occasion when I publish a post, the caption remains intact but the "body" of the story has gone missing for some inexplicable reason.

At this juncture, I have to scramble to the edit bay to "delete" the skewered post before my readers do in order to save face.

No, those are not always typos (or misspellings) folks!

During some bull sessions when I am half-way through penning a feature, the screen suddenly hazes over, and a dialogue box pops up.

"Windows has stopped working"

At this juncture, I am offered the option of shutting down the program until Windows finds a solution to the problem or continuing.

Either choice will deliver up the same annoying results.

Windows "shuts down" entirely - at which point - I lose all my work (in spite of the fact the material was saved).

Curiously, on other occasions - when I choose the "shut down" option - a dialogue box will immediately pop up on the screen indicating that the page has been restored.

Sometimes, the edit box bay opens up where I left off.

More often than not, though, all the clever turns-of-phrases have disappeared into the ether!

Inputting data is often a frustrating experience as well.

For instance, while I am in the midst of writing a paragraph - every two letters or so - the cursor jumps back of its own accord.

If my eyes are not constantly on the screen paying attention, the paragraphs will end up a lot of gobbly-gook that run together and require a total rewrite.

Then, there is the issue of  WiFi connection.

In the midst of a session online, the computer will suddenly switch to another service in the neighborhood that I do not have access to.

Although Toshiba has installed an option which allows for the user to remain "fixed" on one WiFi service - it simply does not function - when commanded to do so.

The hover feature also appears to have a mind of its own.

On occasion when my fingers glide a hair's breath over the keys - functions start up unexpectedly - causing a big snafu on screen.

Text switches from big to small without warning, requests to close a session register as "unexpected shut-downs" -  later require special action by the user to undo - you name it.

Argh!

Apple, you're lookin' better every day.

Twitter...no tweets for me! Site glitch interrupted updates...

Well, for those Twitter pals who thought I dropped off the face of the earth, not true!

Day before last when I attempted to log in @ the Twitter site my username and password were rejected!

Did I ruffle some feathers, perchance, on the heels of posting an earthy update or two?

In order to fathom that out, I proceeded to use password recovery to dredge up the top secret data (in the event the precious code info flew out of my memory banks to be lost forever for some inexplicable reason).

Old age, maybe?

However, after two or three attempts, nada!

Finally, I broke down, and zipped off an e-mail to support at Twitter.

An automated response provided me with a ticket number and noted that the team at Twitter would get right back to me regarding my querie.

About two hours later, true to their promise, Twitter computer wizards whizzed off a second message to enlighten me about new developments.

"There is something technically wrong!"

"Thanks for telling us. We'll get right on it."

So, as the King in Amadeus would say, there you have it!

I trust that I'll tweeting to my heart's content once again soon.

Until then, pray to the Internet Gods, that I will soon be released from webby hell!

I have to HAVE my TWITTER fix!

David Beckham..broke world record for Butterfly? Hangs up cleets...

Water sports new kick for Becks

Oh boy, folks on Twitter must have shaken their heads in disbelief overnight, when they caught site of a caption in a tweet that boldly screamed out:

"David Beckham breaks world record for the Butterfly Stroke relay!"

Quite an athletic feat, alright.

No wonder the media darling wasn't in the sweaty locker-room lately rough-housing with Galaxy soccer studs.

Unpredictable Becks must has been off boning up on his butterfly stroke at the local "Y".

Uh-huh!

I was stunned, too, when I spied the caption touting Beckham's skills in water sports.

The snippet was almost as intriguing as the expose published on Zimbio at dusk last night which hinted at an alleged love affair between superstar Tom Cruise - and uninhibited Becks - who appears to have a kinky underwear fetish.

What would Scientologists make of these odd bedfellows, do 'ya think?

Curious twitter folks who clicked on the Beckham link were doubly surprised, no doubt, when the post they were transported to at breakneck speed was a news flash about Olympic Gold Medalist - Michael Phelps - who broke the world record for the "Butterfly Stroke" relay at the U.S. Competitions in Indianapolis Thursday, July 9th (2009).

The post - on the Phelps breaking news penned (by MOI) shortly before I logged off around 7 o'clock last evening - was published on three web sites with a correct caption and an accurate reference to Michael Phelps.

As fate would have it, during a google search bright and early this morning, I stumbled across the bizarre caption, unexpectedly.

Needless to say, I was a little shaken (and stirred into action) by the glitch.

Uh-huh.

Today, I am scratching my head.

Did some gremlin, or mischievous hacker on the Internet, tamper with the twitter caption for reasons heretofore unknown?

Or, was it a sign?

Although sentient beings vainly imagine they are in control - especially with regard to intelligent machines created to better mankind's lot - it's crystal clear the unexpected may occur at any given moment and underscore with certainty - that is truly not the case.

Albert Einstein once opined:

"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious."

Phelps, like Becks, into provocative posing!

Technorati...ping malfunction renders posts "old news"!

For those of you with blogs that are fed through Technorati by "ping", I guess you're as frustrated as I am about the update malfunction at their site which is rendering posts "old news" items before they've had a chance to be read!

For instance, over the past few days when Technorati failed to ping the blogspot site automatically (www.ijulian.blogspot.com), I tried to facilitate the function manually.

But, to no avail.

For days, posts failed to pop up on the site.

When they did appear in the queue, the posts were not timely and amounted to "old news".

I'm recommending that Technorati readers go directly to the source for the posts, until the malfunction is sorted out.

I, for one, would prefer my posts to be read while they are timely and newsworthy - not stale and outdated!

Good luck sorting things out your way!
