Ashton Kutcher & Demi Moore...heading for splits-ville? Body language says so!

Are Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore heading for splits-ville?

The body language in a slew of publicity stills lately appears to hint that all is not well - or a bed of roses -  between the once-happy lovebirds.

Has Ashton's role on "Two And a Half Men" (he's working and she's not) put a strain on the once-cozy cougar-boy-toy relationship?

Or, have the paparazzi just caught 'em off-guard now and then, in an off-moment?

Ashton Kutcher...Network trots out "Two and a Half Men" star! Former Underwear model in spotlight!

Former underwear model catapulted into spotlight!

Ashton Kutcher - an actor the big brass at the studio is counting on to revive a hit show (that some say is on its last legs ) - was trotted out earlier today to introduce himself to loyal fans of the effervescent comedy "Two and a Half Men".
.
Looking lean and raring-to-go - the sexy star of such films as "Where's my Car, Dude?" - was noticeably keyed-up and quick to take a dig at Charlie Sheen who once starred on the entertaining sitcom..

“I can’t wait to get to work with this ridiculously talented ‘2.5’ team and I believe we can fill the stage with laughter that will echo in viewers’ homes,” Kutcher qupped, as he fielded questions from journalists at a high-profile press conference aimed at triggering renewed interest in the once-smart, amusing, well-written comedy which continued to snag top ratings over the past eight years.

Of course, Kutcher was taking a poke at Sheen who recently inferred that charismatic performer was not capable of drawing in the all-important 2.5 demographic that is needed to propel "Two" forward and beyond with American viewers who have sat on the sidelines fascinated by all the brouhaha generated by the scandalous antics of bad-boy Sheen.

Producers are optimistic that the casting of Kutcher - who faired well in "That 70's Show" will trigger new directions in plot lines for the writers - and ultimately - breathe new life into the popular TV sitcom.

“Sheen’s character was getting a little thin,” says Robert Thompson, founder of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture at Syracuse University in New York.

“As good as Charlie Sheen was, his TV alter ego, Charlie Harper, had begun to wear out. You can only do so many stories with a drinking, drugged-out womanizer."

As Charlie Sheen is beginning to find out in real life!

With that in mind, one has to seriously wonder about the obvious, in the aftermath.
Will “Two and a Half Men” be as successful as it was when the mean Sheen machine was at the helm?

More importantly, will the entertaining piece of fluff continue to be a magnet capable of attracting A-list talent to CBS like moth to flame once again?

Predictions become iffy, at best, when analysts are forced to take a wider view of the terrain.

In some instances, when stars have departed suddenly from Television bill-of-fare for whatever reason (death, contract disputes, to move on), a handful of top-rated shows have managed to not only maintain a toehold - but also (with the right set of circumstances) - leap forward in popularity to gain momentum and "stick" even after the curiosity factor has long since worn off.

For example, when David Caruso left “NYPD Blue” in 1994, critics opined that the show would suffer.

“The ultimately interesting point in all this is debated in television and theater classes across America all the time,” says Fordham University communications professor Paul Levinson, author of “New New Media.

“Is it the overall characters or the overall story that is most compelling to audiences?”

“If Ashton Kutcher succeeds in the absence of Sheen, it will weigh in on the side that characters are less important than the overall story. If he doesn’t succeed, it will be evidence that overall, characters are more important.”

On the other hand, some shows just konk out, after all the potential storylines (and the obvious variables) have inevitably panned out.

In the case of Sheen, the one joke joke, may have rustled up its last laugh this past season.

With Kutcher in the role of a fresh character, the sitcom may find itself transfused with life-saving creative energy, that may catapult it forward for another season or two.

In the final analysis, the network may prove the critics wrong, once again.

"Two and a Half Men" may have survived all these years not because of Sheen's sheer talent - and comic genius - but by virtue of ensemble cast performances that charmed and won over the American public.

Notwithstanding, Kutcher's demographics across the board may be a force to reckon with, too.

Does lightning strike twiice?

The jury is still out.

We'll see!

Ashton Kutcher...to replace mean machine Charlie Sheen! Underwear model may titillate!

Early yesterday morning, the Network that produces the TV Sitcom - Two and a Half Men - was obviously throwing up a smoke screen as their negotations with an actor they were keen on scooping for one of their shut-down productions capable of reapling in big-bucks were underway.

Uh-huh!

The Internet - and News outlets around the country - were a-buzz with the rumor that Hugh Grant (Sunset Strip bad-boy of yesteryear) was about to prove his acting chops (and star power) by landing the lead on a top-rated American nightly funny.

According to the scuttlebutt, Grant was a good fit to step into the role, by virtue of his notorious past.

But, a dude in the shadows was inking a deal to the surprise of agents, out-of-work actors, and media outlets.

Ashton Kutcher - a 36-year-old Cougar-lover (with 6 million twitter followers) - had apparently nabbed the role at the 11th hour.

Talk about in-like-Flynn, eh?

Even though the stardust hadn't even settled yet, a disgruntled - bent-out-of-whack has-been by the name of Charlie Sheen - was spouting off at the mouth.

Duh!

Quick to avoid criticism, Sheen focused on the ratings, and refrained from taking pot shots at the actor who would replace him, in spite of his tendency to do so with the likes of John Stamos on the heels of his firing.

Frankly, I think the dude with the tiger blood, got caught with his pants down (again!).

Even still, Mr. Sheen was not a loss for words.

"Enjoy planet Chuck, Ashton," laughed Sheen on hearing the astounding news.

"There is no air, laughter, loyalty, or love there," he noted for the record.

The hunka-hunka porn love did not go quietly in the night, either.

No, Sir!

His thoughts on Demi's better-half in a nutshell?

"Kutcher is a sweetheart and a brilliant comedic performer," he applauded.

But, in the final analysis, the drug-addled actor tried to take a nasty snipe at the handsome former male model when he inferred that Mr. Kutcher was not capable of rustling up a ratings coup in a powerhouse demographic.

"Enjoy the show, America," he huffed.

"Enjoy seeing a 2.0 in the demo every Monday at WB."

In-between the lines, Charlie appeared to be inferring that the network brass may be back knocking on his door in the near ffuture, when Ashton's MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE fails.

Killers...Kutcher's buffed bod stars! Katherine Heigl steals flick...

Ashton hangs - um - tough!

Okay, so the script has some holes in it.

And, it doesn’t quite make the cut for the “Black’ comedy genre it was aiming for.

But, “Killers” does make the grade as an offbeat piece of comedy bill-of-fare, because it is backed up with solid acting performances - and quite a few side-splitting sight gags - that will keep audiences entertained from fast-paced beginning to predictable end.

I laughed out loud throughout.

Essentially, the dead-pan tale, is about a professional “Killer” (played adeptly by heartthrob Ashton Kutcher who has managed to survive dubious title of flavor of the month til now) who retires his hired gun after falling hard for the girl of his dreams (Katherine Hiegl).

The handsome couple settle down in the burbs in a bold-faced effort to close the door on his nefarious past.

Unfortunately, Kutcher’s character is forced out of hiding, when an odd-ball turn of events set him up as a moving target.

At this juncture, all hell breaks loose, and theatre-goers are thrust into a roller-coaster ride that keeps them on the edge of their seats.

Katherine Hegl delivers a stand-out performance that manages to capture the imagination of film buffs because of her impeccable comedic timing and a natural style of acting which resonates with a truth that is refreshing (and way beyond the capability of a bevy of bimbo babes striving for her lofty status in the show biz arena just now).

Tom Selleck (Magnum P.I.), likewise, turns in a solid stint of acting, and confirms he’s still at the top of his acting game.

The towering stud is as charismatic and handsome as ever, too!

Unfortunately, Catherine O'Hara (Selleck's wife in this 3-star feature) falls a little short in her role due to a flawed script.

The jabs at alcoholism - which amounted to a one-trick pony during the course of the film - played itself out in the first ten minutes or so.

Boring!

Kutcher - who rustled up quite a few catcalls and whistles in the opening scenes where his buffed half-naked bod was played up for maximum exploitative value by the producers - essentially played a dimension of himself (which has been captured on screen on more than one occasion ad nauseam).

Who’s punkin’ who?

But, Demi’s hubby is so lovable and sexy and cute that film fans are inclined to forgive.

The exquisite European landscape, stunning cinematography, and delightful opening credits - seduced the rapt audience - too.

There is nothing earth-shattering or thought-provoking in "Killers".

But, it is definitely a flick to catch on date night with that special squeeze.

Life's embarrassing moments...duh!

After catching the side-splitting comedy - "Killers" (a review will follow) - I inadvertently tossed my validated parking ticket into the trash as I did a bit of aimless window shopping at the Century City shopping center.

OMG!

As I was taking a leisurely glide down the escalator, it struck me like a bolt of lightning!

No tickie - no laundry!

I quickly turned on my heel and dashed back to the trash bin (blush!) where I flippantly tossed the precious little commodity a few moments earlier and dove in to the half-full container - rife with partially-eaten candy, old newspapers, lipstick-covered cigarette butts, and the like - on a madcap search for my stub.

Suddenly, I felt as if there were a thousand eyes on me.

I glanced up for a sec and scanned the terrain.

Golly, a pretty curvacious blond - perched a few feet away in a chic designer dress - gave me a wide-eyed startled look.

A sheepish look flashed across my face.

"I tossed my parking ticket in the trash by mistake," I mumbled (feeling the total idiot).

Without skipping a beat, she shot back.

"Oh, I've done that before."

Whew!

Obviously, I wasn't a complete and utter a**, not in her eyes anyway.

Next time, I'll secure the little sucker inside my wallet, to ensure it doesn't happen again.

I mean, who wants to pay $7.00 for parking, when it's free with Theatre validation?

Not moi!

Ashton Kutcher...dethroned as King of Tweets! Audience goes wild on Ellen set...

The audience reaction when he stepped on stage - wild screams and applause that pierced the ears - that it caused Kutcher to quip:

"It would be great to have sex and have someone stand up and cheer like that," he joked.

"That does't happen now," Ellen quizzed.

"No, it doesn't," he almost mumbled.

Ellen chirped that she wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of folks from her audience would be willing to do that..

Kutcher sported a fluffy cut (Justin Bieber eat your heart out), exuded a boyish charm, and was oozing with sex appeal.

At a recent chi chi function, Kutcher wailed that he was put off by Sarah Palin.

For starters, he denounced her book as unprofound. arah Palin's.

Allegedly, the former Ice Queen,  talked non-stop about the military and the "little people" which was a turn-off to Kutcher.

Although a fan of PRICE (who performed at the same high-profile event), he also expressed his frustration over the fact the Pop Idol rarely ever performed his hits - like Purple Rain - preferring to jam with the band for two (yawn) hours.

Ellen agreed with Demi's better-half.

"They don't like to sing the hits that we love them for," Ellen astutely noted.

Mr. Kutcher looked "sharp" in a tasteful tailored jacket, paired with dress slacks, thin black tie, and pristine white shirt with correctly knotted at the collar.

"So, you're King of the tweets," marvelled Ellen amid applause from the audience.

"I got dethroned," Ashton uttered up with a tinge of frustration in his voice.

Ellen probed a little further but came up empty-handed.

"I'd rather not talk about it."

So, they didn't.

Valentine's Day...Marshall's middle-age baggage bogs film down! Shirley McClaine's face distracts...

Check for a heartbeat!

Valentine's Day boasts a stellar cast of notable actors - mostly in camero roles - who trot across the screen in tailor-made characterizations that suit them to a "T".

Even so, on occasion, it is hard not to be disappointed in some instances.

Ashton Kutcher, for example - while a capable actor (and obvious star of the film) - chooses to take the safe bet here and basically plays himself or an extenion thereof.

Demi's hubbie is cute - and has that irresistible infectious grin (and eyelashes to die for)  - but the puppy dog expressions tend to wear thin  faster than a wink.

Until Kutcher takes on more challenging acting assignments, it is doubtful that Hollywood willever  take him too seriously as an actor.

Basically, the punked creator is all fluff, but  great eye candy to munch on rainy nights when the dance card is empty.

Julia Roberts kind-of sleep-walks through her precious moment or two on-camera here.

Ah, there was so little to do.

From the expression on her face, she appears to be thinking something along these lines.

"OMG!  I can't believe I'm making so much money for doing nothing."

As to Shirley McClaine - for the first time - I witnessed her overacting onscreen (badly).

Just betcha, Garry Marshall (at the helm of this big budget production) gave her free rein for obvious reasons (and to the great detiment of the two of them and the film in general).

I don't mean to be cruel to Shirley, but - the plastic surgery has taken its toll - and hurt her acting career in the process.

Her face is so stretched that Ms. McClaine's expressions have been pared down to about one and a half.

An actor's emotions should bubble up from within, ripple across the expressive face, and reveal the truth.

McClaine has lost that ability due to restraints imposed by the surgeon's knife.

In the future, Shirley should avoid close-ups, altogether.

There are a couple of performances that touch in Valentine's Day, though.

The young boy who plays Julia Robert's son, for instance, is a real attemtion-getter who effortlessly succeeds in tugging at the heart strings when called for (no problem).

What a screen presence.

An actor with masculine appeal (who played a football player) showed a lot of potential, too.

At times, his true ruggedness - depth of voice, word-phrasing, and mannerisms - reminded me of film greats from the past such as William Holden.

If I am not mistaken, he was in a local grocery shopping recently - and although I was not familiar with who he was on that occasion (Eric Dane), I recall doing a double take as I looked up from the computer at the WiFi station.

I said to myself:

"Self, if he's not an actor, he should be."

The man possessed that indefinable something - that special quality or presence - that sets actors apart from one another.

The Valentine's Day plotline is structured around a series of vignettes.

Marshall's lens follows a bevy of characters over the course of one Valentine's day as they encounter a myriad of trials and tribulations.

The way the seasoned director wove the tale (he introduced characters at different points during the fast-paced film and tied them in as the story unfolded onscreen) appealed to my sensibilities.

Life's like that, so why not.

Marshall's style of filmmaking is pretty precise, rich in color, and  widespread over the social strata in appeal.

In fact, I imagine him in the screening room musing aloud.

"Did we forget anyone?"

A couple of stereotypical characters don't gel in the setting, though.

The backdrop - Beverly Hills, Venice Beach, and the Los Angeles West Side - amounted to a great public relations plug for the big orange.

However, because few people in the mainstream of America have attained the carefree affluence he projects as the norm, Valentine's Day ends up being a fairy tale of sorts.

In fact, at times I felt like I was watching a TV sitcom that had been adapted and blown up for the widescreen at the local movie theatre.

Instead of breaking for commerical after a two or three minute segment, Marshall  moved on to a new character scenario instead.

If a filmgoer doesn't have a score card to keep track - or powers of focus and concentration - they  might get entirely confused about "who is who" during the first-quarter of the film (so fast-paced are the intros).

However, when the characters eventually cross paths and merge, their storylines dovetail and end up part-and-parcel (a tidy Valentine's day gift).

Unfortunately, at times, the loose ends he ties up are too pat.

In fact, you don't have to concentrate too long on the sensory overload beyond the footlights, before you spy Marshall's "invisible hand" at work.

Yup!

Formula filmmaking.

In sum, the award-winning director tries too hard to ensure that all the elements are there - in particular, the ingredients for success - he desperately pines for.

In a nutshell, V-Day suffers from too much  middle-aged baggage.

The romantic comedy is a jaundiced view of Marshall's notions about the scheme of things.

In sum, the award-winning director's ideas about - romance, relationships, drama, comedy (what-have-you) - tend to be old hat, predictable, stale.

If I see one more scene in a film - where everyone shows up at an Indian restaurant and ceremoniouly jumps up to belly dance to the strains of an exotic catchy beat at the end - I'll puke.

Don't get me wrong, though.

I am viewing the film with a critical eye.

I'm sure that regular foks in middle America - elsewhere too - will flock to catch the film (and end up strolling out of the theatre when the credits crawl smiling).

The light-hearted bill-of-fare is mushy and sentimental and superficial and - well, you get the idea - eh?

If you're just looking for a way to kill two hours on mindless entertainment for a quick respite from the daily grind, this one's for you.

Curiously, in spite of the fact Marshall's latest celluloid offering is about Valentine's day, it has no heart.

Personally, I left with a sickly sweet aftertaste in the mouth.

Saccharine!

Ellen DeGeneres...addicted to the twitter bug! Underthings fetish! And, Facebook alert...

In an old "tit for tat" scenario, Ellen started to follow me the past twenty-four hours after a synchronistic moment unwittingly caused us to cross paths.

Ever since, we've both been twittering incessantly.

Can you fancy that?

Yup, the tweets keep coming!

Can the hits be far behind?

While the phenomenon of twitter rages on around the country, Ellen was inclined to point a proverbial finger at the obvious.

"This Twitter stuff is kinda ADDICTIVE isn't it? "

'Ya don't say!

Also, amusing, insightful, and potentially naughty.

Yes, naughty!

In a tweet about an hour ago, Ellen sauntered below the belt, when she was inclined to warble about the intriguing intimate "business" (a TMZ anatomy term oft-facilitated by a blond cutie over there) of one of her guests.

"Matt Nathanson is an amazing singer and songwriter. He’s also got some of the best taste in underwear I’ve ever seen."

Golly, Ellen has a fetish for fancy underthings!

So, I sent her a link to a post I penned last year on sexy bikinis, designed by N2N.

http://ijulian.blogspot.com/2008/09/n2n-mens-underwearsexy-low-slung.html

But, like me, Ellen is also focused on important issues of the day.

For instance, she touts a documentary - "Food, Inc." - for those keen on knowing where the stuffings for their three squares a day come from.

And, Ms. Generous (I've nick-named her with that since it's a truism 100%) is also fond of having feline friends roam about the range in close quarters at home.

Ellen, it just hit me like a thunderbolt!

You are the perfect person to ask about something that has been nagging the heck out of me.

Is it true that if a woman has more than 3 cats that she is a lesbian?

Enquiring minds want to know.

By the way, Ellen put out a call for follower assistance yesterday in respect to her stature at Facebook.

Gosh almighty, I expect that when you're in the limelight like Ellen is, you have to keep up with the Jonas Boys, the toy-boys of old cougars, you name it.

Yup, Ellen is aiming for the pie in the sky.

She wants to rustle up 1 million friends on Facebook.

No mean feat, huh?

So, get the word out, and start signing up pronto.

Bottom line?

Let's put that pretty boy with the candy a** to shame, eh?

Show off!

Oprah Winfrey...twitters! There goes the neighborhood! Some cry foul...

Geek meets twit!

Your head must have been in a toilet or something for the past twenty-four hours if you didn't hear the news about Oprah Winfrey and "twitter".

Yes, Ms. Smarty (overstuffed) pants has ventured into the 21st Century by signing up!

Understandably, Oprah needed someone to hold her hand.
The idea of it was so revolutionary, and frightful, after all!

On her daytime talk fest Friday, the founder of "Twitter" was at the side of goody-two-shoes, as she browsed around the Twitter site all agog at the potential of it all.

One light bulb definitely went off inside her head.

'A great way to keep track of Steadman' (or any other eligible beau waiting in the wings in Tweetville) must have been one mental note she made to herself.

Twitter just might be what the fad doctor ordered to keep the feisty gabber from falling of the diet wagon, too.

All Oprah has to do is "tweet" one her new pals about a deep-fried oreo she's about to wolf down - when, I expect - a host of die-hard fans will step in and pull-the-plug on that naughty bit of self-indulgence from the get-go.

And, what about those new "best buds", anyway?

According to a news item in the morning paper, Oprah sauntered into the twitter arena with 70,000 "followers" right off-the-bat.

L. Ron Hubbard must be turning over in his grave somewhere in Science Fiction heaven!

Meanwhile, the morning air waves were awash with cries of "foul".

"How the heck did she do that?" one envious bimbo babe was inclined to ask increduously of her fellow squawkers on air.

"She got 'em to give her all those tweeters," one sly disc jockey accused off-the-cuff.

Aghast, a female gossip-monger on the popular morning show lamented:

"Is that legal?"

"Sure," a jock quick on-the-uptake quipped cynically.

"Twitter's chief twit probably offered Oprah a twaddle of tweeters as an incentive if she'd sign up for the popular social hub during a live broadcast on her afternoon talk show."

Ashton Kutcher must feel old money bags breathing down heavy on his pretty lily-white a**.

Nothwitstanding, some fear that twitter has tweaked!

When mainstream folks like Oprah jump on board, the once-hip ship is sure to sink, savvy trend-pundits theorize.

"Twittering is not tweet any more, dudes!"

Even face-book is suffering a backlash.

Some whine that all this kissy-kissy "be my friend" stuff has gotten so candy-ass that it doesn't pass the smell taste anymore.

Yup, I'm going to start up a "book" rife with a gang of "enemy" Internet snots, I'll be able to take a "poke" at whenever I'm in the mood for a nasty bit** fight.

Here's mud in your eye!

Sarah Palin...Demi Moore to play Gov in Hollywood sizzler?

I laughed out loud when I came across an article in the morning paper - speculating about casting possibilities in the event Tinsel town opts to turn out a quickie screen bio on the dicey politico of the moment - Sarah Palin.

Writer Rachel Abramowitz offered up Demi Moore as a prime candidate for the meaty role.

Her reasoning was hilarious!

"Moore could really capture what veteran comedy writer Larry Gelbart pointed out was Palin's mixture of sensuality and dominatrix."

And, she quipped, young hubbie Ashton Kutcher could inhabit the part of 1st stud.

Yes, I expect he'd be dashing about the scenery in madcap fashion yelping the obvious.

"Where's my condom, Dude?"

Deadpan, Moore - with lustrous locks in a spinster bun and half-exposed boobs spilling over a conservative neckline - would undoubtedly respond in kind.

"We never wore rubbers in Alaska, why should we now in Washington?"

The producers might want to lift a scene from Moore's compelling feature-length drama - "GI Jane" - to get at least one point across about the glass ceiling.

If you recall - in that potboiler - Moore's character enlists in an elitist army unit (where no self-respecting undaunted female has ever ventured before) bent on earning prestigious commando credentials right along-side-of her gung-ho macho counterparts.

The army brass instruct her commanding officer - and likewise the rest of the tough-as-nails outfit - they are to thwart the spunky service-woman's bold-faced efforts to achieve those goals, at whatever cost.

In one action-packed scene, Moore's character incurs the wrath of her senior officer, and so - the stubborn two soldiers - engage in an all-out knock 'em down drag-out fight against the backdrop of a horrendous storm that has blown into camp.

Just as it appears that her superior has packed a wallop sure to keep her face wallowing in the mud for days, Moore's femme fatale manages to muster up enough strength to pull herself up by the bootstraps - at which point - she lets out an un-godly primal scream.

She hollers - "suck my c**k" - as the officer stares back at her in disbelief - stunned by her ballsy bravado.

Will Palin have to engage in these kinds of theatrics to rustle up some respect on Capitol Hill where cries of "sexism" are currently being bandied about?

It's doubtful.

Her current mantra - "Go F**k yourself" - appears to be charming the khaki pants off the republicans, just fine!

Can the voters be far behind?
