Desmond Richardson - a celebrated dancer with Complexions Contemporary Ballet company- will be honored with the 60th Annual Capezio Dance Award at the Joyce Theatre on Tuesday May 24th in the Big Apple.

In a recent press notice, Mr. Richardson took the opportunity to welcome fans of the dance troupe to the opening season which starts up this week in the heart of New York City.

"I'm so looking forward to sharing our first spring Joyce season of performances with all of you, and can't wait for you to witness the beauty of our phenomenal dancers."

Mr. Richardson was quite touched by the deserving dance honor bestowed upon him.

"Dancing has been my life for so many wonderful years, and I believe in its power to move and transport audiences, taking them on a journey. That passion for dance, is so real to me - and to be recognized in this way for doing something that I've loved, and love every since I can remember - will truly be a great moment for me."

For 16 years COMPLEXIONS CONTEMPORARY BALLET has been bringing it’s own unique brand of contemporary choreography and technique to the stage.

Now, a Summer Intensive Program has been developed at the renowned company, with the specific aim of making the COMPLETE DANCER from head-to-toe.

So you think you can dance...famed Complexions choreographer work featured on Fox Hit Show! Dec. 15th...

Choreographers from one of my favorite dance troupes - based out of New York City -  have conjured up delicious dance numbers for two of the finalists to perform tomorrow night on Fox TV's dynamite perennial hit:

"So You Think You Can Dance" (December 15th @ 8 pm)

The two talented dancers in competition on the show will showcase the intricate dance steps of renowned choreopgraphers Dwight Rhoden and Desmond Richardson respectively.

Rhoden and Richardson head up the highly-respected "Complexions Contemporary Ballet" company.

Regular readers of the Tattler will recall that I penned a post on " Complexions" when they last performed downtown at the Dorothy Chandlier Pavillion to sold-out audiences and critical raves from the toughest reviewers on this or any other coast!

Post:  04/11/2008

Undoubtedly, the slated dance numbers will be the highlight of the season at Fox, so try to catch their  dazzling contribution to  the realm of normally low-brow TV, especially if you have a soft spot in your heart for liberating performances that will literally set you free.

ASPEN SANTE FE BALLET...triumphantly returns to The Joyce Theatre! NYC performances slated Feb. 17th - 22nd...

The Nationally-acclaimed Aspen Sante Fe Ballet returns to The Joyce with three New York City premieres.

For the past ten years or so, the Ballet company has wowed audiences with their impressive signature style - and I might add - garnered glowing reviews from tough critics near and far.

This eclectic and innovative dance troupe will return to the NYC and perform what is being touted by the company as a sophisticated program featuring some of the world's foremost choreographers in the exciting arena of Ballet today.

The likes of William Forsythe, Jorma Elo, Itzik Galili, and Helen Pickett are sure to delight, in fact!

Sid Smith of the Chicago Tribune raved:

"The Aspen Sante Fe Ballet is small in size and young in years, but its lustrous Chicago debut proved its big and deserves everlasting life."

"It's a class act, a classic act, and an extraordinary engaging act; it's the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet," exalted Clive Barnes at the New York Post.

Complexions Contemporary Ballet...electric cutting-edge choreography!

Friday night's alright for fightin' in the big city, but haven't 'ya got any plans?

Why not take in the Ballet?

Not just for sissies, Dude!

Complexions Contemporary Ballet will be taking the stage by storm at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion tonight through the weekend.

April 11th through April 13th

Founded by former members of Albert Ailey American Dance Theater - Dwight Rhoden and Desmond Richardson - the company started out small, primarily with duets Rhoden created for himself and Richardson.

Richardson, a principal guest artist of the American Ballet Theater, is mesmerizing in whatever capacity he chooses to perform.

The New York Times also hailed Dwight Rhoden - a major creative force behind the performances - as one of the most sought after choreographers of the day.

Dance Insider noted:

"Complexions seduces you with explosive energy...it's hard not to be astonished by the technical prowess of these extraordinary dancers."

Complexions distinguishes itself by grounding cutting-edge choreography and original music within the roots of classical dance, according to their promotional blurbs floating about the city in recent days.

Find out for yourself!

The powerful, electric performances of dancers like Richardson, are showcased in two exciting programs at the tony environs of the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.

Program A features the LA premier of "Loose Change", a dramatic solo created for Richardson by actor Taye Diggs; and Rhoden's - "Chapters" - set to the timeless music of Marvin Gaye with songs like, "What's Going on" and "I want You."

Program B offers up "Pretty Gritty Suite", a homage to the music of the late great Nina Simone, with soulful classics like "Feelin' Good" and "I Put a Spell on you", magically wafting throughout the dance performances.

Both programs feature Rhoden's "Dear Frederic" set to Chopin and Moody Booty Blues.

Tickets, please!
