American Idol...Scotty McCreery avoids blogs! Steve Tyler wowed fans!

In the aftermath of his astounding big win last night, Scotty McCreery found himself trotted around the show-biz-circuit today.

Ah, the toast of LA LA LAND!

The country-western star wannabee was everywhere! everywhere! everywhere!

But, don't expect Scotty to cruise the Internet soon, or check out what any bloggers have to say about his appearances on American Idol.

The kid with a twang in his voice has sworn off the blogosphere for his own reasons.

"On the Internet, they love you or they hate you," he solemnly quipped to one interviewer this morning, with a bit of a bad taste in his mouth.

So, he's putting his blinders on, and focusing on the kudos and crush of loving die-hard fans!

Meanwhile, last night's closing segment of American Idol generated a big buzz on major sites - and local news programs - bright-and-early this morning.

Some quipped that nobody but God could hit that high note that Steve Tyler managed to pull off - with little aplomb - to the stunned amazement of everyone in attendance and tuning in from the comfort of their homes.

Just how tight did his pants have to be to accomplish that feat, I wonder?

One anchor on Fox News in Vegas joked that when Jennifer Lopez was gracing the stage with her "ass" shimmy - that the foundations of the sound stage must have been rocking back-and-forth.

Just betcha that little maneuver - which she had obviously been practicing at home in front of a mirror - kept the pounds from taking their toll on her best ass-et in recent weeks.

Jennifer put slutty pole-dancers to shame!

Shake that booty, honey!

Lady GaGa was a knock-out when she - not only rocked on the stage - but engaged in sensual hanky-panky with a sexy young stud.

When they took the splash, well, it was symbolic - wasn't it?

Meanwhile, I can't fathom all the interest in what's-her-name, that came second.

She sure looks chunky to moi!

In spite of a smattering of juicy kisses planted on Scott McCreery'x face last night, the winsome twosome swear that they have no inclination to jump in-between-the-sheets.

Seems that Scotty has his mom on his mind a lot, so you figure it out!

Needless to say, the final episode was a smash success from a ratings point out view.

Uh-huh.

Viewer turn-out went through the roof.

Now, as the kids go out on tour, the producers gear up for season 11 (!) which starts up in about-a-month.

Break a leg, kids!

Lady Gaga...mentors American Idol!

On the heels of her sizzling-hot release, Judas - Pop Diva Lady Gaga - will charge into the rehearsal hall at American Idol next week to mentor the four finalists vying for pop star super stardom.

The segment - featuring the Queen of the Monster circuit - will be broadcast May 11th.

James Durbin, Scotty McCreery, Haley Reinhart and Lauren Alaina will perform songs written by award-winners Leiber & Stoller.

The songwriters are best-known for drumming up memorable musical top-charters like "Hound Dog" and "Jailhouse Rock."

"Stand By Me" was another big hit they penned.

In addition to the exciting news about Lady Gaga, American Idol producers have acknowledged that there is another treat in store for fans next week.

Steven Tyler will premiere his new music video, “(It) Feels So Good" on the May 12th results show.

Finally, it should be noted that Ryan Seacrest (MySpace friend) announced that auditions for Season 11 will begin Tuesday June 28th in St. Louis.

The show will follow up that open-call session with others in Portland (OR) and Charleston (S.C).

Audition tips?

*Relax
*Start the audition only when you're ready to avoid false starts
*Maintain control throughout the performance & build slowly
"Focus on breathing, phrasing, and style
*Make eye contact with the Judges

Break a leg, eh?

See 'ya there!

THE X FACTOR...Virtual auditions! Simon Cowell scours for Talent!

If you're a performer, who was unable to attend open call auditions for  - X FACTOR - Simon Cowell is reaching out "virtually".

For example, X FACTOR  producers have whipped up a handful of state-of-the art audition booths, that will be installed at shopping malls in out-of-the-way communities, to facilitate auditions for a posse of singers chomping-at-the-bit to be "discovered".

At stake?

A $5 million-dollar recording contract!

"We're extending auditions to six more cities," beamed the host of the upcoming entertainment show - styled after American Idol - on Fox TV.

Potential contestants who reside in neighborhoods around the country near - Anchorage, Denver, Honolulu, Kansas City, Phoenix, and  Nashville - just lucked out!

"America has the best talent in the world and we're looking for the best of the best. We believe the next global superstar is out there waiting to be discovered," a spokesperson at Fox beamed.

"We think MyStudio is a brilliant way to audition for those people who haven't been able to make it to the open calls," Cowell underscored at a press conference in recent days.

Throughout April - anyone 12 years of age or older (solo artists  & vocal groups) - can use the nifty booths to record their auditions.

Break a leg, eh?

Glee..."out" gay teens! Plots ripped from headlines! Charming Entertainment!

Talented actor plays "out" role!

I was channel-surfing last evening - when I unexpectedly stumbled upon the latest scintillating installment of the highly-rated TV musical/comedy - "Glee".

Within minutes, it struck me that the well-written thought-provoking piece of fiction - broadcast during the family hour - appeared to be mirroring life itself.

Indeed, at least one controversial theme (handled with kid gloves in a gay-themed sub-plot) was literally ripped from screaming headlines, to its credit.

No stale old fag jokes in this hip creative offering, that's for sure!

I recalled a phrase that actors used as a coded reference to "queer" male actors in the business on the sly way back in the fifties (era of screen idols Tab Hunter & Rock Hudson).

"He's musical, 'ya know?"

Well, there are enough show tunes on "Glee" each week, to fathom that inevitability from the get-go!

Right off-the-bat, I was a little put-off by some of the language, though.

In one unsettling scene - two attractive gal pals chatting up a storm about an upcoming competition - joked about being a couple of nasty "bit**es" to be reckoned with.

The sentiments rolled off the tongues of these teen babes so easily that it jolted my sensibilities.

Later, one camera panned in on two female friends of the female hugging each other on a bed.

Say what?

When one pretty black character lightly teased the other for being a (lipstick?) lesbo, she giggled a little, just before swearing (cross her heart) that there was nothing behind the "cuddly" cop-a-feel.

"Sometimes I just need a warm body to hold onto," she joked, in so many words.

Me, too, honey bun!

As we used to say when I was a kid:

"Lesbie-friends and go homo."

Uh-huh.

What  messages - blatant or subliminal - are being promoted on "Glee"?

About mid-way into the highly-entertaining segment, the students were asked to buddy-up, and perform a duet for an upcoming talent night.

One "out" male student - obviously, so - hatched a scheme to approach a blond cutie in class to take up the task in a bold-faced effort to sidle up closer with the hope of a potential romp in the hay.

When a teacher called him up on his deceitful intent, he drummed up a hilarious alternative, to get out of the fix.

"I'll perform a duet with myself," he huffed, to all within earshot.

Musical masturbation, per chance?

The next best thing, I guess.

The talented triple-threat whipped up a dazzling dance routine - based on the novel one in "Victoria Victoria" that Julie Andrews performed to theatrical perfection - with the intention of playing both the male & female parts!

In the next exploitative moment, the shows producers sent the lad into the shower room, where he promptly informed  the object of his desire (naked from the waist up) that he was off the hook.

Not before he has informed him, however, that he didn't buy the stud's so-called "straight act".

"My gay-dar is quite good, 'ya know," he asserted earlier, in the twinkling of an eye.

Actually, the young blond actor who played the character, reminded me a lot of the one who starred in the popular hit - Queer as Folk - which was shot in my hometown (Toronto) a few moons ago.

Of course, Glee is tame by comparison.

"Queer" was so graphic and in-your-face and ground-breaking in respect to gritty gay themes.

A peck on the cheek is about all viewers will be salaciously treated to on "Glee".

Pity!

After all, I have the hots for Jane Lynch

Glee...favorite quote on Britney Spears episode!

On the much-ballyhooed episode of "Glee" this week - featuring the Pop Diva Britney Spears - there were quite a few one-line zingers that cracked me up!

My favorite?

After spying a school buddy kibitzing with a fellow female student, one of the characters lamented:

"How come gay guys get all the good-looking girls?"

Because they're light in the loafers, do 'ya think?

American Idol...Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler, and Randy Jackson to take reins?

Simon, it's a wrap!

Over at American Idol, it has been quite a topsy-turvy weekend!

For starters, perky Ellen tweeted to her fans that she was departing the highly-rated TV variety show, because - in her own succinct words - Idol wasn't a "good fit" for her.

The perky comic found the weekly dramas a tough row-to-hoe.

"I didn't like hurting people's feelings."

The next bit of juicy gossip was a lot more explosive, and streaked like lightning around the Internet in about two seconds flat, when it was uttered up from inside sources at Fox.

The gossip tweetin' this way 'n that?

Kara DioGuardi was fired!

Heh, what the heck was going on over there at Fox, anyway?

Seacrest remained silent on the sidelines.

Smart cookie!

Of course, Simon's impending departure as head honcho on the panel, was old news.

Cowell has been developing a new show - Fear Factor - and announced many moons ago that he was bowing out of Idol to pursue his spanking-new endeavour.

All the tabloid news shows started to have a field day, as the rumors and innuendos persisted.

From one quarter, one high-profile gossip was not only quite adamant that Jennifer Lopez was approached, but inclined to swear up-and-down that it was a done deal for the Latino Lovely.

But, Steven Tyler?

For a moment or two, critics scratched their heads, while fans were sent for a loop!

"That wild man, a Judge on American Idol, do 'ya think?"

I was inclined to pen my own thoughts on Tyler as a potential panelist on the still-popular night-time musical extravaganza.

http://ijulian.blogspot.com/2010/08/aerosmithstormed-las-vegas-steve-tyler.html

On the heels of that post, Tyler let the delicious news slip out after a concert in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

When queried about what exciting prospects were on the horizon, point-blank, he blurted out:

"I'm recording an album and I’m probably going to be a Judge on ‘American Idol.'”

He later added: “I’m doing it. What do you think? I’m doing it.”

Despite his claims, American Idol bosses are yet to confirm the rocker’s appointment.

Lopez has reportedly been in talks with the show's boss Simon Fuller for a few weeks.

But, no confirmation from her handlers, yet.

American Idol...Ellen DeGeneres bows out as Judge! Not right fit...

Viewers knew it before she did, but at long last Ellen DeGeneres finally saw the light, woke up and smelled the coffee, whatever!

The perky talk-show host - with the quirky two-steps - wasn't cut out for the role of intense discerning Judge on American Idol when it got down to brass tacks.

So, she tweeted the news to her fans!

"I'm outta there, folks."

Although the announcement may have been untimely - grumpy old Simon Cowell is also departing to develop his spanking-new offering - Fear Factor - Fox Network Execs weren't taken by surprise.

No temper tantrums for Ellen, not even any coy game-playing, in a bid for higher bucks.

'Cause she's classy, all the way.

Like any seasoned thoughtful pro, the popular afternoon talk-show host gave advance notice.

While admitting that her plate was basically full - and that her duties at Fox were tipping the balance of things a tad - she was up front and honest about the obvious.

"I didn't like hurting people's feelings," she fessed up.

Unlike Simon Cowell, who often left young hopefuls discouraged about the future and in a puddle of tears for family and fans (and Ryan Seacrest) to mop up!

So, the hustle is on, once again.

Who (are) the next likely candidates to take up the coveted spots?

How about a regular Joe rotating each week (selected by weekly give-a-way).

That might be a hilarious twist, in-of-itself!

And, a roster of Judges plucked up from popular daytime and nightime TV shows may have a lot of audience appeal?

I'd even take a shot, if Ryan promised to share a beauty secret or two back stage.

I confess, a tip on hair conditioner may do wonders for my unruly mop, which one fan compared to a Steve McQueen "do".

My favorite compliment from a stranger who came up to me on the street one day?

"You look like Peter O'Toole. When he was young and glamorous."

Now, that's a hoot!

Minority News Anchors...not ready for Prime Time TV! Fox pundits agree....

Do Salt & Pepper teams gel with White Americans?

Most would prefer to dance around the subject, but the truth remains.

A large percentage of white Americans are still reticent about tuning in to a Newscast - headed up by an anchor drawn from the minority "pool" - reporting (and expounding) on "hard news".

"Those prestigious night-time Anchor jobs are driven by opinion," one Afro-American broadcast  journalist argued in so many words.

"Years ago," she continued in a solemn tone, "We (black on-air personalities) were told that tackling an anchor position was 'okay' on a week-end."

But, head honchos at the network were adamant that high-profile News Anchor posts at the big 3 networks was the exclusive territory of Caucasians.

White folks in middle America weren't comfortable tuning in to the all-important Nightly News - unless there was a respected white broadcaster (like Brian Williams or Dan Rather) at the helm of the ship.

The pundits attributed the trend to "ratings" and "popularity".

"When pondering the notion, diversity was number 10 on the priority list. Ratings, on the other hand, were  Numero Uno!"

Even now that a Black President is installed in the White House?

Has much has changed in recent days?

American Idol...Lee DeWyze nabs it! Simon Cowell bids adieu

Joe Cocker rocked the stage, the audience paid tribute to Simon Cowell, and the new American Idol - Lee DeWyze - stoood speechless on the stage shaking his head.

"How did you feel when your name was called," Ryan Seacrest quizzed the winner.

"There are no words to describe it," DeWyze responded wide-eyed.

The build-up to that precious moment was not unlike a pilgramage on a long-and-winding road dotted with sheltering valleys and treacherous peaks along the way.

Joe Cocker (celebrated Woodstock hold-out) delighted the audience with a live performance of - "With A little help from my friends" - for instance.

Hall and Oates - a little long in the tooth - brought a smile to the face nonetheless.

American Idol interspersed the stage performances with a handful of hilarous clips from prior shows - mostly video footage of contestants  screwing up - which dredged up fond memories and a poignant moment or two.

In what amounted to a lowpoint of the night, Paula Abdul stormed the stage to put in her two cents worth.

Ms. Abdul couldn't resist twisting the knife in a bit - as she discussed her relationship with Simon Cowell on "Idol" - which had been volatile at best.

Within minutes of hearing her grating voice sound off, I found myself screaming at the old boob tube.

"Would someone get the hook and pull her of the stage, please?"

On the heels of this segment of dead space, American Idol paid tribute to Simon Cowell, who is  exiting the top-rated entertainment show this season.

Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox were stunned when American Idol gifted each with a souped-up vehicles courtesy of Ford.

Surprise high-energy performances by Brett Michaels and Alice Cooper were a highlight.

In some respects, Americn Idol was a cliffhanger, with enough thrills and chills to satisfy everyone.

Dancing with the Stars...the big 3 waltz to the finish! Glitzy (Mirror) ball within grasp...

The fashions (if that is what you'd call 'em) were fabulous darling (more flesh than flash on occasion), a celebrity Judge strutted his stuff weekly in the language of love, and talented choreographers spun out dazzling dance routines that wowed.

Sadly - the vastly Entertaining /Variety bill-of-fare - wraps tonight.

Like grand old lady, Dancing with Stars bows out gracefully.

If you caught last week's high-energy segment, the names of the contestants heading down the home stretch, will trip trillingly across the tongue.

Tonight,  dancers - Erin Andrews & Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Nicole Scherzinger &  Derek Hough, and Evan Lysacek & Anna Trebunskaya are going to compete for that great big glitter ball in the sky.

PEOPLE magazine will be there, too, to capture the evening's exciting festivities, for posterity sake, and to offer up a peek backstage where alot of the magic is first conjured up.

See 'ya there!

American Idol...Casey bites dust! Justin Bieber a hit!

An electric stage performance by Justin Bieber drove pretty bodacious babes into a frenzy, Idol hometown visits - in what amounted to Hero's welcomes - brought tears to the eye, and a Perez hopeful stormed the stage to take a grab at the brass ring.

On one of those rare occasions, the Judges were weepy, too.

In fact,  all four struggled  to hold back tears - but ended up wearing their hearts on their sleeves - nonetheless.

What an emotional night!

When the big 3 finalists graced the Idol stage - somehow - it all seemed right.

The scuttlebutt this past week at water coolers around the Nation was ominous for the sexy heartthrob.

Casey's "got to go" appeared to be the mantra.

For the handsome stud it had been a thrill ride, of sorts.

As his popularity soared into the stratosphere, the low-key musician often accommodated the scheming shifty-eyed  producers looking to exploit his - um - talent.

The soap contender tossed off his shirt right, left, and center to boost the ratings and win over a female (or male) fan or two at the drop of a hat, in fact.

But, when push came to shove, the people had spoken.

Last night Casey sang his swan song.

Now - Katie Bowersox and Lee DeWiez - are left to belt it out next week in the finals!

The one that nabs the golden prize will probably be climbing the charts shortly after that - the potent power of an Idol plaudit - is that sweet and promising.

To underscore that point?

It  didn't escape my attention that during the course of watching the show, a band singer in the lounge of my Hotel downstairs, chose Adam Lambert's catchy tune - What do you Want for me? - to open her set.

There were a number of surprises last night - enough jolts and adrenalin  rushes - to satisfy even the toughest critics.

For instance, Ryan Seacrest suddenly announced that Perez Hilton was on hand, to introduce a young performer that he "discovered".

Perez - in black "t" (with a ubiquitous caption etched on its face) and jeans beamed

"So, what did you see in Travis Garland," the metrosexual man of-the-hour pointedly asked the Queen of the Blogs.

Did I hear a snicker or two in the audience?

"The fact that he is better than Justin Timberlake."

Unfortunately, that did not turn out to be the case.

Ah, the prooof is in the pudding, as they say.

I found his dance routine sluggish.

After all, it appeared he was trying to recall tricky steps that his backup dancers performed with ease.

The tune - Believe - was mediocre at best.

Efforts by the studio suits to jazz up the number with a myriad of nifty effects didn't manage to disguise the fact the composition was weak and nothing to write home about.

Perez, what were you thinking?

Multi-talented Timberlake must be having a big laugh this morning.

Don't look for a day job, Justin.

In one touching moment, Crystal Bowersox was reunited with her young child, as family and loved ones gazed on choked up with emotion.

Is Ms. Bowersox part of a biker clan?

At a big blow out, the Mayor of the City presented Bowersox with the key to her home town, Toledo.

Crystal later held a concert in the park - Bowerstock - which was packed with well-wishers and signaled the innovative musician is on her way into the big leagues.

Very deserving!

Dancing with the Stars..tonight Miley a caged musical animal! Bruno's "F" bomb! Semi-finals dazzling...

It must have been the eye-popping glimpse of flesh that tripped up Bruno!

Shortly after one male dancer stepped up with his partner to await their score, the normally-unflappable Judge, unexpectedly experienced what host Tom Bergeron referred to as a "pre-paddle".

When Bruno raised his score card he shouted out "NINE".

But, on the face of the paddle, the number on display was a ten.

I speculate that the male dancer's shirt - a see-through erotic number in torquoise revealing well-pumped pecs - got Bruno so excited that he ejaculated beyond his original intention.

Spontaneous moments like that make "Dancing with the Stars" all the more titillating.

Speaking of which - the weekly bump-and-grind show - appears to have been transformed into a wild sexy peep show - and the heck with dancing - darling!

Just kidding, of course.

But surely you agree with me that each week the popular ratings-getting has been pushing the envelope within a hair's breath of the censor's knife.

In that, there was a startling boo-boo last night near the Judge's podium that caught everyone off guard.

Did Bruno utter up the "F" bomb?

Tom reacted with lightning speed to smooth over the storm of emotion that clouded the moment.

"That's what the censors get paid for," he shrugged.

One of the highlights of the fast-paced high-energy show was a performance by Derek and his pretty partner Nicole (who has been consistently knocking-out the judges, the studio audience, and viewers at home each week).

Bruno, not one to hold back, gushed that she was a divine enchantress who "drew us deeper and deeper into a love spell."

A female Judge was in tears.

"That was profound incredible dancing," she wailed without shame.

Although Derek's routine was perfection, his wardrobe choice left a lot to be desired.

Golly, the kid either lost a lot of weight lately, or his dresser snatched an oversized suit from the mothballs by mistake because he was swimming in fabric.

The actual silhouette - in black and sparked up with blood-red tie and pocket pouffe - suited him to a "t", nonetheless.

Len, in a tongue-twisting moment, finally blurted out that Nicole was more delicious than his grandmother's apple pie.

By the way, this sizzling routine scored the winsome twosome a perfect score of 30.

In-between segments, the audience was treated to a voluptuous Brooke, packed into a sensual skin-tight cocktail dress sexed up with black leather trim..

Too tight, Brooke, folds of skin were buckling at your underwarm, dear.

By the way, was that "all" her?

Or, were sophisticated lift-and-thrust design techniques at work?

Meanwhile, Chad and Cheryl were lauded for their stand-out performance.

Len took a moment to congratulate Chad (the sports athlete) for maneuvering his way to the semi-finals in true style.

"The waltz was fantastic."

The get-up the designers crammed him into was God-awful!

He clowned around in a see-through peach-colored blouse - with a skirt-like effect at the upper waist - which actually revealed a VPL (visible pants line) whenever he turned his back to the judges, TV Cameras,  and studio audience.

Tacky!

Surprisingly, no one seemed to notice that his odd-ball dress mu mu was tugging incessantly in a nasty fashion at his chest.

No wonder he tossed the restricting fashion disaster off at the end of the segment.

At which point, the studiio audience went wild.

What a physique.

A quick-witted cameraman zoomed  in on Kareem Abdul Babar grinning at his buddy from the sidelines.

Bruno - normally Chad's toughest critic -shouted out his assessment.

"You're a star!"

Cheryl's sequined dress was soft and feminine and suited her complexion and skin tone

Evan (Olympic skater) was in top form last night, too.

"I have a problem letting go," he admitted in a segment which focused on his remarkable progress during the run of the hit-getter on the ABC weekly dance show.

With ease, he pulled off light kicks, tricky moves, and standard steps without looking back.

Kevin and Anna landied a standing ovation.

Bruno underscored that the artistry and musicality was there, but it was the happy-go-lucky manner in which the routine was carried out that appealed so widely.

"Talk about sparkle! Judy Garland & Mickey Rooney came alive."

A Judge usually inclined to criticize Evan for not connecting  was elated with what unfolded before her there on the ABC stage.

Evan confessed that after coming down off the Olympics, he was anxious to jump into an entertainment show such as "Dancing" because he wanted to do something fun and also learn how to dance.

A flashback of Erin - anchoring a local news show - was hilarious.

The popular contestant actually "thanked the audience for tuning"  in with the help of a teleprompter!

Surely, she could have just winged it, don't 'ya think?

If you missed "Stars" tonight, there will be a lot of frenzied chatter to catch up on at the water cooler, tomorrow morning.

Erin wore a gold lame skirt open in front, skimpy black panties, and knee high boots,

All she needed was a whip, and a dildo, and she'd be in business on Hollywood Blvd.

Bruno summed it up this way with tongue-in-cheek.

"A hot chick with a nasty dude."

Maxx was a turn-on in a sexy black leather vest and tight-fitting slacks that was an obvious tribute to Silverlake.

Len was confused.

"What was that?  A funky monkey, I guess. I don't know whether to vote on dance technique, the performance, or the talent," he scoffed in so many words.

Personally, I was shocked at the sight of  Erin's chunky thighs and unattractive wooden legs.

Tom chuckled that fans could catch Maxx in his regional production of Spartacus.

Whew!

What a fantastic glittering night.

Tonight, the Fox hit, will focus on the musical musings of Miley Cyrus and Sarah McLaughlin.

In fact, Miley is slated to turn up hot-to-trot in a cage!

Say what?

Hillary Clinton...Dick Morris quote on Secretary of State!

Dick Morris appeared on Bill O’Reilly's gab best this afternoon and the lively discussion turned to a comment that the Secretary of State uttered up on 60 minutes this past Sunday.

O'Reilly was eager to know - Morris being a friend of Hillary’s after all - if the best-selling author knew why the self-serving politician made a statement about the economy being pulled into the ditch.

Was Hillary taking a swipe at her boss - Barack Obama - or laying the groundwork for her own presidential bid a couple of years down the campaign trail (he wondered aloud).

“Was it just a spontaneous remark, Dick?"

Dick Morris laughed and quipped with nary a thought of repercussion.

“There is nothing spontaneous about Hillary.”

Gosh, he got that right!

American Idol...singers lacked ba**s to pull off Sinatra! Those with no life experience need not apply!

As  I was switching the dial on the old boob tube last night, with an eye-out for some entertaining bill-of-fare, I happened across one of the American Idol (Fox) contestants butchering a classic Frank Sinatra tune (which should have come off smooth as butter).

OMG!

A second male vocalist also tried a stab at an ol' blue-eyes  hit - and missed the mark - too.

Embarrassingly, so!

Meanwhile Judges like Ellen - and even normally-sane Simon Cowell - gave the pop hopefuls a false sense of security when they raved about the misguided musical musings (disasters?).

Gosh, the taste of the Idol Judges is either up their wazoo these days, or those blaring musical interludes in-between segments these past few weeks have managed to deafen the two.

When Frank Sinatra crooned - "My Way" - the reason the celebrated hit touched (and is a all-time favorite in Karaoke bars around the globe today) - was because Frank sang each word (and the note that couched it) as if he lived it (which he had).

Yes, Sir!

Frank did it "his" way.

When he crooned about the heartaches of love - or moments of reflection - the muscial emotions resonated with audiences.

Why?

The legendary singer was able to reach inward - let go, let it out - and along the way (without any  regrets) reveal the innermost underpinnings of his soul.

Sinatra's bang-on phrasing and the subtle nuances in his golden voice were icing on the cake - in the final anaylsis - and were the tools of the craft he facilitated to buttress the song up so that it could float out to rest on appreciative areas.

The end result?

For a short while, audiences basked in the glow of a gifted performer - the likes of which - music-lovers will rarely ever witness on the live stage again in their lifetime.

The idol pap was all puff pastry, in my estimaton!

NBC Nightly News...Tiger Woods "F" bomb broadcast in vulgar tonality!

OMG!

Have the lines become so blurred between cable and mainstream network TV that the gate-keepers of profanity have lost their way?

I surmise that a posse of viewers ensconced comfortably in front of their armchairs tonight - like moi - sat bolt upright in shock when NBC Nightly news cut to a clip of pro golfer Tiger Woods uttering up the “F” bomb.

For some inexplicable reason the news organization didn’t bother to bleep.

Was that appropriate content for the family dinner hour?

If you recall, the graphic four-letter word got one pop Icon into hot water with the FTC a few years ago, when it was shouted out to a rapt audience attending a live broadcast of the Golden Globe Awards.

Cher got a slap on the wrist and caused an uproar for similar foul language unbefitting a lady (even a gentleman) when she got a little too boisterous on the stage at the Billboard Awards in 2002 as millions gazed on in disbelief around the country.

A network ploy to exploit and ultimately rustle up ratings?

Or, maybe the execs at the majors just don’t care!

You be the judge.

Potty-mouthed Cher earthy!

American Idol...Angry fan taunts Simon! Casey's whiskey-soaked voice appeals!

American Idol is starting to steal alot of thunder from the gutsy Jerry Springer show.

No wonder!

Idol - and one of its irascible Judges (Simon Cowell) - hit a new low last night!

Simon's mean-spirited assessments turned folks off so much, in fact, they were inclined to openly taunt him to show their disapproval during the broadcast.

The normally-cool Simon was so unnerved by the incident - that he was indignant - and begged (!) that he be allowed to "finish" his talent assessent.

Thank you very much!

In a nutshell, it appears that fans are tired of the English transplants cruel attacks on the contestants each week, and have no qualms about lashing back.

Security!

That aside, the performances (for the most part) were not only entertaining last evening, but more individualistic in style.

To their credit, the warblers took a shot with their own arrangements - and thankfully - refrained from being total copy-cats (Karaoke-style).

Casey James tried his hand at "Jealous Guy" with a romantic approach.

Rusty, heartfelt and - bluesy at times - the gamble paid off since the rendition suited the tune and his voice.

One Judge applauded the handsome stud for showing a vulnerable side.

Fellow songbirds joked about Casey and his golden locks (reminded me of my hippie days when I was 17 - footloose and fancy free - dancing outdoors at be-ins in Vancouver) and were inclined to bandy about names for the soap character they predict he'll be playing one day (Trevor & Drake were two favorite choices).

In particular, I was impressed with the way he closed the ballad with a heartfelt cry!

Tim Urban - the kid with the bright blue eyes and wide pretty smile - was received well by the adjudicators who have criticized him in prior weeks for holding back and taking advice lightly.

He started off slow with "All my Loving", then built slowly, until he had the rapt audience in the palm of his hand.

I thought that the performance turned a bit pedestrian at one point, and ended up a little flat, but the Judges raved.

It sure lacked the excitement and frenzy that ignited the British Invasion back in the sixties.

I was a teen when they conquered North America, so I know from whence I speak!

Tim's stage persona was bang on, though.

"You've got that McCartney cuteness going on," gushed Simon.

"The girls love 'ya. And it will sell tickets," he added in so many words.

Aaron's "Long and Winding Road" was too sweet (a polite way of saying weak) and was a bad choice in my estimation.

The kid's vocal projection was poor - which caused me to wonder - if he needed to be in a lower register.

Another singer fell into the same trap.

When the pretty songstress sang out - "Nothing's Going to Change My World" - I prayed that someone would toss out a hook, drag her offstage, and prove otherwise!

Pathetic!

Crystal Bowersox wowed judges and the audience alike with her stab at a Beatles tune - and managed to pique their curiosity too - when she facilitated the use of a didgeridoo (an instrument originating with tribes in Australia) to injest a haunting new sound into the mix.

In  contrast, another performer's use of bagpipes (Heh Jude) caused most to shake their heads.

"Looks like that dude wandered in from another sound stage," one Judge snickered.

As usual, Ryan Seacrest fluttered about the stage, trying to look important (relevant, as the Judges would say).

I laughed out loud last night when Dave Letterman quizzed one of the singers (who just got kicked off the show) about Seacrest's role on American Idol.

"What does that fellow Ryan Seacrest actually do," he quizzed the suprised guest.

The tactful young lady tried to skirt around the issue, but eventually coughed up a response.

"Ryan helps put the performers at ease," she asserted in so many words.

"Oh, he's one of those good looking non-threatening guys, eh?" Dave dead-panned to the camera.

Uh-huh.

Quite unlike that Brit who gets two thumbs down this week!

Tune in tonight for a performance by Rihanna.

Dancing with the Stars...death threats! Broken Rules! Bondage Themes!

There was a lot of high drama during rehearsals, on stage, and behind-the-scenes tonight on Dancing with the Stars.

Just before the curtain went up on the big Fox ratings-getter, the newswires were reporting that two of the female celebrity contestants on the show - Erin & Pamela - received death threats warning them not to dance "or else".

Though shaken, and emotionally wrought, both troopers followed true Hollywood tradition.

"The show must go!"

Two dancers - in sailor suits - got a total dressing-down from one judge for "breaking the rules".

Len was livid!

"It wasn't a traditional quick-step," he angrly scolded the handsome couple.

"It looked like a vaudeville act, with Gene Kelly returning to Hollywood fifty-years later," he noted with indignation.

Bruno agreed with Len that the winsome twosome didn't meet the criteria, but in spite of that little shortcoming, touted the performance for what it was.

I think Len was right to speak out, after all, it wasn't fair to the other contestants who were restricted by "Dancing with the Stars" rules - and thus - forced to meet the creative challenges imposed on them.

If every couple didn't follow the guidelines, and went their own way, what kind of a competition would that be?

In spite of the glaring misstep, one judge proudly waved an "8" on her score card, as if to spite Len.

Did Nicole and Derek get special treatment?

Just maybe, when you consider that while the other dancers sweated out their rehearsals in stuffy halls indoors at the studio, the darling couple tripped-the-light fantastic on a yacht in the harbour

Inquiring minds want to know!

Tonight's theme was "telling a story".

Ironic, that in Hollywood's dream factory at Fox studios, imaginative storytellers were far-and-few between.

Nicole and Derek chose to go the route of  two sailors slacking off.

There were surprises (at one point, when she held him in her arms, she dropped him without warning and he crashed to the floor dazed), lots of high-spirted fun (she bumped him in the mug with her butt at one point in the slick broadway-style number) and happy-go-luck moments that wowed the audience.

In fact, ecstatic fans jumped to their feet and roared their approval for several deafening moments.

His fair looks, and her almond-shaped face in olive tones (set off by a rich mane of lustrous black hair), were a winning combination.

They were striking on stage, in fact,  as they kicked up their heels and contorted their faces like keystone cops to the foot-tapping tune of "Anything Goes".

One judge quipped:

"When your show goes on the road, I want front row seats."

An Olympic skater - who broke two toes last week - valiantly danced on!

Buzz Aldrin stumbled through his stiff routine and faced critical judges once again.

The audience hissed and booed Len.

The former astronaut can do no wrong with the studio audience (or with viewers at home).

In rehearsal, Jake accused his female coach of treating him disrespectfully.

"Don't shut down, Jake," his partner begged.

They chose an Egyptian theme which was ho-hum.

Chelsea came off like a cheap tart in her torquoise peek-a-boo gown which was festooned with tacky flourishes.

Jake's chocolate brown suit was BORING!

Chelsea, was no Cleopatra, though she struggled to infuse some exotic sensuality into the mix.

Niecy was asked to imagine herself in the sixties in an era when inter-racial relationships were strictly taboo.

"Dancing with the Stars" got a little political at this juncture when her male partner (gay) hinted that scenario was one he was forced to face with his male lover daily.

Niecy broke down at one climatic moment and expressed  how sorrowful it would be not to be able to show love for the person you cared for.

"I can't imagine what it would be like not to be with my boyfriend because of society."

Is she getting some help with a stylist?

Although she wore a flower in her hair once again - her signature - her choices in respect to gown and accessories were vastly improved.

A cream-colored par-tay dress with sequins at the bodice suited her.

But, the long sleeves were a fashion missstep, since they took away from a V-line which would have given the impression she was a lot slimmer than she actually is.

Judges thought her to be a highly emotional dancer.

True!

Her partner, Louis, needed to focus on technique (the judges concurred)

The "wide receiver" for a sports team improved his performance this week most agreed.

"After last week, I needed to re-energize and focus."

His story, about a matador trying to seduce a woman, mirrored life.

The athlete's attempted advances on his dance partner have been roundly rejected!

Dear, didn't 'ya know - once you've had Black - you never go back?

Just ask the hookers who have been dating Tiger Woods!

His pretty partner, in bright red, was nothing short of a spitfire!

"It felt good to get cocky and arrogant," he growled.

Down, boy!

Pamela Anderson faces a curious dilemma.

Though loved by the Judges, viewers held back last week and left her shocked and stewing in the bottom two of the rank and file.

To bolster her morale, Coochie-Choochie gal Charo popped in to coach Pam on flamingo dancing.

"Because of your big maracas, you have to pay attention to your posture and form," she wickedly laughed.

Pam and her partner wowed the audience and judges alike with their dramatic routine danced to the strains of one of my favorite "Animals" hits "Don't Let me Be Misunderstood".

One judge gushed that Pam got the story.

"You have a certain artistry that is great."

Bruno quipped:

"You were like a Bridgette Bardot playing a gypsy Queen. Fantastic!"

Aiden, was given the task of imaging a woman of his dreams, who magically materializes.

"She's killing me," he panted heavily in rehearsal.

The audience oohed and aahed when his wife appeared (by virtue of video clip) unexpectedly on his birthday with 7 month-old baby in tow.

His quick-step, one judge pointed, needed to be carefree (not careful).

Bruno, on the other hand, thought he gave the impression of being happy as a clam.

In a kinky segment, Erin was blindfolded and led around the stage at her partner's sinister whim.

In the rehearsal hall, he stressed that it was his way of gaining her trust.

Her gown was fashioned in glittering silver tones with sparkly flourishes at the bodice

"If you start with a blindfold, you may end up in handcuffs," Bruno cackled.

"There was a sense of danger. It was also breathtakingly artistic," another judge gushed.

The shocking disappointment of the night was the performance (!) by Kate Gosselin.

At rehearsal, she broke down in tears, and noted how difficult it was to let go of the mask she wore to the world.

"It's what I use to help me and my kids survive."

So, the producers brought in an acting coach, to help her "emote".

Kate went over-the-top with an idea she was unfortunately unable to execute successfully.

Her take on Lady GaGa and the frenzied Paparazzi not only fell flat - but rustled up a batch  of bad reviews.

"It was - um - strange," one stammered.

Her bold-faced efforts to channel her frustrations into the routine didn't pan out.

To me, she came off like a child's doll that sprang to life, in need of oiling at the joints.

A cheesy scene from a low-budget B-horror flick?

You betcha!

Bruno labelled it pedestrian, with no passion or drama.

"A bitch from hell," he summarized.

Tom Bergeron quipped:

"And, that was a compliment."

They sure have skewered ideas on "Dancing with the Stars".

It's kind of like a train wreck, though.

No matter how hard you try, you can't tear yourself away from the scene of the tragedy.

Why is that?
