Hollywood Forever Cemetery..."Explosions in the Sky concert"! Taking Care: 6 Visual Interpretations!



An "Explosions In The Sky" concert slated for April 30th at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery will now be preceded by a special outdoor Art & Music event to take place on Saturday, April 23rd, in Hollywood.

The - "Taking Care: 6 Visual Interpretations" - is a novel installation that will be set up on the cemetery grounds and feature unique pieces by six visual artists who created the works of art to complement the catchy tunes featured on the forthcoming album by "Explosions in the Sky" titled:

"Take Care, Take Care, Take Care"

All six songs will be premiered by broadcast on state-of-the-art speakers at different locations throughout the cemetery in the midst of the art works on exhibit at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

The new album is slated for release on April 26th!

Tickets to the special event are FREE but limited in supply.

Music & Art lovers are required to RSVP to secure a ticket which must be presented at the gate on the day of the event.

Robert Plant...mellow Led Zeppeliin front man appears on Dave Letterman!

Legendary rocker - Robert Plant (replete with curly locks and pasty face due to unflattering stage lighting at the Ed Sullivan Theatre) - delighted fans and viewers alike last night when he sat down for a down-to-earth chat with late night talk show host Dave Letterman.

When asked about his musical roots, Plant moaned that radio in the 50's was pretty dire.

Consequently, he relied on innovative new sounds emanating out of Germany during that time frame, for inspiration.

Plant confessed that he was also initially influenced by Muddy Waters and the Memphis Blues.

He excitedly recalled that when he first heard - Heartbreak Hotel - the soulful quality of Elvis's voice resonated to the very core of his being.

On that note, Dave quizzed Plant about crossing paths with Elvis decades ago, during the early days of his heady career.

"We were invited up to his suite at this well-known Hotel. There were a couple of Gorillas guarding the door. The suite was something out of Get Smart, 'ya know - one room leading into another - that sort of thing.  And, there were these babes with bee-hive hairdos - who all looked like Sandra Dee and Stella Stevens - hanging around the Hotel suite," he laughingly recalled with a smidgen of humor in his distinctive voice.

As to Elvis, well, that was quite a memorable meet-and-greet.

"Actually, when he stepped out of the bedroom, he sort-of glided towards me and gave the best Elvis impression he ever performed on stage," Plant joked in so many words.

According to Plant, Elvis was smooth, sensual, and debonair in person.

The musician noted that today he is greatly influenced by fok music and the Smokey Mountain sounds, which he asserted to Letterman, originated from Ireland and Scotland when  immigrants first settled on U.S. Shores.

Not surprisingly, his number last night on stage was pretty easy-going and low-key.

One of my favorite bands in sixties!

Oh-Land...live performance @ Abbey a hit with locals! Copenhagen beauty's star on rise!

On the rounds of WeHo last night, I stumbled onto a very special live performance by Copenhagen beauty with an unusual name - Oh-Land - at the ever-popular Abbey.

The fresh-faced talent has a captivating stage presence and a great sound!

Surprisingly - in spite of the limited acoustics and small ill-equipped stage at the Robertson Blvd hang-out - the sexy pop singer managed to turn out a set that was vastly entertaining.

Oh-land was definitely a crowd-pleaser!

When she gazed into the audience, even the jaded locals who frequent the trendy watering hole, melted away.

Once Oh-Land began to rock the stage, the house was up - dancing & clapping - and cheering the sensual chanteuse on.

One of her handlers, who introduced her last night to the enthusiastic pub crawlers, noted that an album will debut in March.

And, it was also announced that Oh-Land has already managed to snag the eye of talent scouts around the country.

No wonder!

In the near future, Oh-Land (who graciously spelled out her name to me backstage amidst a throng of delighted fans) is expected to appear on a handful of the top-rated talk shows on Network TV in the near future.

I expect that her career will zoom into the stratosphere once America is introduced to this gorgeous talented young woman.

Dancing with the Stars...the big 3 waltz to the finish! Glitzy (Mirror) ball within grasp...

The fashions (if that is what you'd call 'em) were fabulous darling (more flesh than flash on occasion), a celebrity Judge strutted his stuff weekly in the language of love, and talented choreographers spun out dazzling dance routines that wowed.

Sadly - the vastly Entertaining /Variety bill-of-fare - wraps tonight.

Like grand old lady, Dancing with Stars bows out gracefully.

If you caught last week's high-energy segment, the names of the contestants heading down the home stretch, will trip trillingly across the tongue.

Tonight,  dancers - Erin Andrews & Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Nicole Scherzinger &  Derek Hough, and Evan Lysacek & Anna Trebunskaya are going to compete for that great big glitter ball in the sky.

PEOPLE magazine will be there, too, to capture the evening's exciting festivities, for posterity sake, and to offer up a peek backstage where alot of the magic is first conjured up.

Tomorrow evening (January 21st) PBS presents a Joshua Bell special:

Live from Lincoln Center Presents Joshua Bell & Friends

The internationally-renowned violinist is expected to perform his unique song styling to such hits as "Eleanor Rigby", "I'll take Manhattan", and "My Funny Valentine".

Bell was elevated to high-profile status in recent months after receiving kudos for his musical skills featured on soundtracks for "Defiance" and "Angels & Demons".

Torrential rains pounding the West Coast are bound to keep die-hard music-lovers snuggled up indoors by a roaring fire - and, I expect - tuning in to PBS to catch the talented musician's gig on the public airwaves.

Bette Midler...Divine Miss "M" encores @ Caesar's Palace! Critics raved...

Critics raved about Bette Midler's dazzling headlining show in Vegas at the Colosseum (Caesar's Palace) when it opened to packed houses a few months ago.

Now, the Divine M makes a triumphant return to Sin City, August 11th through September 6th.

Time Magazine gushed:

"Midler is incandescent, and the new show ...is a fresh, sinfully satisfying distillation of her career.

"But my fave flowed from the pen of a journalist at the NY Times."

"Like all glittering showgirls, (MIDLER) may wear sequins like a second skin, but the woman underneath is all flesh and blood, humor and heart," exalted USA today.

The Divine Diva will no doubt wow 'em every night over the next two weeks, too, fer sure!

I caught Ms. Midler's act for the first time back in the early 70's (gosh, time flies) at the Palace in New York City.

I recall one particular number where - to the delight of ecstatic fans - Bette trotted out on stage in a hula outfit (or something to that effect) and teased the audience with a novel number from her extensive repertoire of hits.

About mid-way through her extravagant well-executed appearance - Ms. Midler introduced the audience to her young accompanist - an unknown by the name of Barry Manilow!

"He's going to be big," she enthused after a wild round of applause.

Back in the heady days of Disco, Mr. Manilow was paying the rent by conjuring up jingles for TV Commercials.

And, of course, by playing back-up for Midler not only at concert gigs on the road at whiskey joints around the country, but during her regular sold-out appearances at the trendy Continental Baths (a gay bath house) in downtown Manhattan.

Babe, you've both come a long way!

Carl Ferris...5 Star performance rating! Vegas talent dazzles...

Since I posted a couple of HD Video captures of LIVE PERFORMANCES by sensational saxophone player Carl Ferris on YouTube, fans around the globe have gotten warm & fuzzy over his soulful playing - and likewise - been dazzled by his remarkable finger-work on the instrument.

And, I just noticed when I played back a couple of the Videos this morning, that he has been getting a 5 star rating for his high-energy "feel-good" performances on the Vegas strip.

Hats off to Carl!
