Oh Land...pretty Pop flavor appears @ trendy Cafe Du Nord! San Francisco! April 13th!

Oh Land, the pretty bombshell Pop Singer making waves around the country with her hit dance tune -"Son of a Gun" - is sashaying into San Francisco to open for "Francis and Lights" at the Cafe Du Nord on Wednesday Night (April 13th).

Readers at the Tattler may recall that I posted a review of her live! Stage Performance which I caught at The Abbey in WeHo a few weeks ago.

Since then, as predicted, the Danish lovely - with oodles of talent and charisma to boot - has been trotted out to perform for gushing audiences on the Late Night talk-show circuit (Dave Letterman, for example).

Oh Land - while thrilled with the attention - remains down-to-earth and realistic.

"So, already at 10,  I was aware that I could be replaced by somebody else at any time. I definitely grew up with a number on my belly," she confided to a reporter at the San Francisco Examiner.

"Because at Ballet school (which she vigorously attended in her youth), half of the ones they took in each year were thrown out the next, and you would get a letter each year, telling you if you could continue or not. It was quite horrible," she recalled in horror.

And, you thought the Black Swan (Natalie Portman) had it bad!

Now, in the realms of the Pop spotlight, does she have to worry about being just a flavor of the month?

Oh-Land...live performance @ Abbey a hit with locals! Copenhagen beauty's star on rise!

On the rounds of WeHo last night, I stumbled onto a very special live performance by Copenhagen beauty with an unusual name - Oh-Land - at the ever-popular Abbey.

The fresh-faced talent has a captivating stage presence and a great sound!

Surprisingly - in spite of the limited acoustics and small ill-equipped stage at the Robertson Blvd hang-out - the sexy pop singer managed to turn out a set that was vastly entertaining.

Oh-land was definitely a crowd-pleaser!

When she gazed into the audience, even the jaded locals who frequent the trendy watering hole, melted away.

Once Oh-Land began to rock the stage, the house was up - dancing & clapping - and cheering the sensual chanteuse on.

One of her handlers, who introduced her last night to the enthusiastic pub crawlers, noted that an album will debut in March.

And, it was also announced that Oh-Land has already managed to snag the eye of talent scouts around the country.

No wonder!

In the near future, Oh-Land (who graciously spelled out her name to me backstage amidst a throng of delighted fans) is expected to appear on a handful of the top-rated talk shows on Network TV in the near future.

I expect that her career will zoom into the stratosphere once America is introduced to this gorgeous talented young woman.

Oh-Land may give Lady Gaga a run for her money!

Whitney Houston...confused on Australian stage! Cancels Paris show...

Tongues wagged last week when Whitney Houston stumbled about the stage in Australia and appeared to be downright confused.

Stoned?

On the heels of that brouhaha, Whitney was forced to cancel her Paris concert, on the grounds that she was experiencing an upper resperatory infection which prevented her from performing live on stage.

However, the troubled songbird assured her fans there would be a concert next week in Manchester to look forward to.

Are old demons surfacing once again in Ms. Houston's life?

This spoof on Whitney by Candis Cayne, which I caught on HD Video at the Abbey in West Hollywood, points an accusing finger at the true culprit in my estimation.

Beer...a warm fuzzy insight!

As I stood at the urinal at the Abbey and took a whiz
A horrible truth suddenly dawned on me
'Ya know, we don't buy the booze
We just rent it
For as long as our bladder holds out!

Perez Hilton butches up act at Abbey! Off booze?

Perez in halcyon glam days!

I popped into one of hang-outs last night for a some upbeat music and lively chatter when I spied Perez Hilton smack dab in front of me as I nosed my way through the romantic courtyard towards the bar.

The celebrity gossip-monger was outfitted in a army flap-jacket (fatiques) which suited his trimmed-down frame to a "T".

And, under the flattering sensual light, his short "do" (sandy-brown with subtle blond highlights?) appeared less spikey and wild, too.

Trying to butch up his act?

In one hand he was toting a water bottle.

Off the booze, Perez?

Was the tall pretty stud at his mercurial side just a best bud or new main squeeze, I wonder.

On one occasion when he glanced my way, I was mystified by a curious light in his eyes.

A mischievous gleam, perhaps?

I'll have to cruise over to his site and check out what Tinsel town's celebrated court jester is up to this week.

Along with 3 or 4 other million capricious scoundrels, I expect!

Blogging...fame! Oddballs come out of woodwork...

A few months ago, I noted that blogging foisted me reluctantly into the spotlight.

I never expected the phenomenon; after all, my profile shot is quite miniscule compared to the rest of the content on my blog site.

Unlike many post-it folks - my blog is not a vanity site - where I am inclined to splash a rash of publicity stills of moi across poorly-designed pages screaming out the obvious.

Me! Me! Me!

In view of the fact quite a few bloggers use monikers on the Internet, and cruise anonymously about the World-Wide-Web, maybe my modus operandi jars web surfer sensibilities a tad.

Golly, it's him in the flesh. He's a real person!

Of course, from the offset, I was keen to the fact that there were thousands of blogs out there vying for public consumption.

For this reason, I always endeavoured to offer up informative posts on topical subjects, a bit of social commentary, political news, and - oh my God - a dollop of celebrity dirt!!!

On occasion I walk the line - get a little outrageous - and the sh** hits the fan.

Maybe that's why people stare.

Dude, he said what?

Uh-huh.

A psychic foretold I'd be famous one day for "telling it like it is".

Well, maybe, that prediction has come to pass.

Yeah, the truth is hard to swallow, for some.

Maybe that's why all the eyes are focused on me now.

The other night, for instance, I waltzed into a movie theatre to catch a flick.

When I strode into the lobby - all the theatre-goers went silent - and acted like there was an elephant in the room.

On occasion when I stroll through The Abbey, too, jaws drop.

One night, I overheard a woman with her back to me, wonder aloud:

"What is everyone staring - "

At that moment, she half-turned and spied me over her shoulder strolling by.

Her voice trailed off - at which point - a dazed expression swept across her face.

At CVS when I stop in for a pomegranate Tea late at night - it's the only really good thirst quencher I know of in a pinch - the staff fumble around and make fools of themselves.

When I stroll up to the counter to pay, they totally lose it!

I want to utter up a tired old expression.

"Take a picture. It lasts longer."

The paparazzi wised up to that scenario a long time ago.

If I pop into the Internet Cafe to check e-mail, curious onlookers glance at my screen, ad nauseam.

Are they seeking lay-out tips or trying to get a scoop on my next sizzling post?

Meanwhile, I pretend not to notice the bizarre behaviour.

Now, it makes sense to me why celebrities react so negatively to fans and strangers when they're are out on-the-town for a respite from it all.

If a handful become recluses, it's easy to fathom why.

At times, the way people act, 'ya feel like you're from another planet.

Britney Spears must go through he** when she ventures out.

The creepy part has started, too.

Gawkers - with stalker tendencies - tend to lurk around when I am quietly having a light snack out-of-doors.

And, a strange character with an eerie light in his eye, pays too much attention when I occasionally dash down to the library for a book or two.

I hate to be rude, but judging from his odd-ball demeanor, it appears to be a better bet to take a wide berth.

On occasion, pedestrians and shoppers stop dead in their tracks, when I alight from my car.

There he is, they seem to be saying to themselves.

How can I capitalize on this chance encounter?

Lately, I've entered a new phase of my fame, too.

I used to hear people whisper behind my back:

"Do you know who that is?"

Then, there was a new line of query after that, for about a month or two.

"Do you know how old he is?"

At that juncture, curious spectators tended to surreptitiously inch forward a bit, to scrutinize for tell-tale signs of a nip 'n tuck here and there.

Nope, I haven't had any work done.

Not yet!

I expect that phrase three of my ten minutes of fame is on the rocky horizon.

When I'm in line at Starbucks, or Gelson's, I expect I'll hear astonished musings in an entirely different vein.

"Is he still alive?"

Yup, over my dead body!!!

Candis Cayne...delights partygoers at Abbey Fundraiser. Universal Studios donates truckload of toys!

I planned to head home and hit the sack, but when I cruised by the Abbey last night and spied the beautiful tree out front festively decorated for the club's - "Christmas in September" - fundraiser, it perked me up.

So, I dashed home - donned a torso-fitting "T" shirt, splashed on a dash of pricey cologne - and headed out to CVS to pick up a toy.

As I pointed out in a post a couple of days ago, the Abbey tosses the splashy soiree each year to raise toys for the Children's Hospital.

This year, the event was headlined by talented Candis Cayne.

Out front, the partygoers were wowed by pristine banks of snow that beckoned at the gate, which the organizers generously layered on the path into the trendy watering hole on Robertson.

Inside, a bevy of pretty babes - men, too - were having their photos taken on the lap of a darkly handsome Santa built like a brick - um - you get the idea.

His chiseled abs were so rock hard - that they persisted with their "cut" look - even as he sat back in the comfy high-back chair surrounded by toys collected at the door.

My own stomach muscles tend to sink into a bowl of lively jelly when I flop down into an easy chair.

The cute doorman handed me a coupon as I turned in my gift, so I sauntered over to the bustling bar - manned by adept muscled barkeeps - to snatch up an exotic cocktail provided by management, gratis.

Don't know what mysterious ingredients were swimming inside the elegant cocktail glass - but, in moments - I was elevated to a warm and fuzzy mood!

Shortly after I alighted at a perch up-close near all the action, an announcement rattled the air.

"Ladies and Gentlemen. Please welcome, Candis Cayne."

A spotlight fell on the front entrance - and there draped against the frame of the well-crafted door - stood the glamorous Ms. Cayne dressed to-the-nines in a dazzling full-length fire-engine red frock.

A cut-away section on the right side from mid-thigh to the floor - exposed long pretty glams - and corset flourishes at the waistline drew attention to her svelte well-toned figure.

When she broke into - "Santa Baby" - I laughed.

Years ago, when I appeared on Tracey Ullman's X-Mas show, the comedian sang that little number in a skit for the popular show.

But, it paled next to Candis's sexually-charged rendition which wowed the crowd from the get-go.

Those of you who have patronized the bar are no doubt familiar with the long pathway that runs from the front door to the nefarious back room.

Ms. Cayne used the full-length of it to kick up her heels, gyrate sensually to the upbeat music, and otherwise captivate the crowd in what amounted to a glittering performance.

There was quite a well-heeled crowd in attendance.

For instance, there were a number of stunning young ladies - all dolled-up in eye-catching designer cocktail dresses - sprinkled here and there about the packed environs.

As the fundraiser kicked into high gear, Chi Chi La Rue made an impressive entrance in a tight little black dress - with hair out to "there" - with an entourage of studly young males in tow.

In fact - Chi Chi's posse of fashionistas added quite a bit of zest to the high-profile eye-candy - already kibitzing at the trendy watering hole.

During a second show on the main stage, Candis carried off a couple of upbeat Barbara Streisand tunes, with all the expertise of a seasoned pro.

Talented, gal!

At this juncture, Ms. Cayne was ecstatic as she made an all-important announcement to the revved up revellers.

Earlier that day - when Universal Studios got wind of the event - they generously donated a whole truckload of toys to the fundraiser.

Steve, the original owner of the Abbey - who nurtured the cafe from a little hole-in-the-wall take-out to the successful in-spot it is today - proudly noted that in the five years the Abbey has been hosting the event, last night's fundraiser was the most successful yet.

Congrats!

I headed home to dreamland at that point.

Now, I am looking for the eye of the dog that bit me, go figure!

Gay Marriage...California Supreme Court denies "stay". Jay Leno to preside over mass ceremony June 17th.

Earlier today, with little ceremony, pomp or circumstance, the California Supreme Court denied a request for a "stay" of its ruling lifting the "ban" on gay marriage.

In a 4-3 ruling, the Justices stood by their controversial decision legalizing same-sex marriage in California and in the process a hurdle was straddled for gay couples to start tying the knot this month.

In fact, I just received word from a fellow "blogger" that on the heels of the news Jay Leno agreed to act as a Master of Ceremonies to preside over 250 Gay Weddings slated for June 17th, 2008.

Or am I being punked by you-know-who?

However, news reports are filtering in this afternoon that Jay definitely intends to make an appearance tomorrow night at "The Abbey" - one of West Hollywood's trendiest "it" bars - for a gay marriage celebration alongside Grey's Anatomy star T.R. Knight. (happy - um - gay).

There has been some speculation that it is Leno's good-guy gay attempt to make ammends to the LGBT community for what they deemed inappropriate behavior on the Tonight Show a short while ago.

The popular night-time talk show host cum-car-enthusiast sparked outrage among gay rights groups when he asked actor Ryan Phillippe to give him his "gayest look" during an interview.

Ouch!

Let's move on...

If you recall from a post a couple of days ago, this blog reported that Conservative religious groups previously asked the California Supreme Court to "stay" its order allowing state and local officials to start issuing wedding licenses mid-June until the issue could be voted on in a fall election.

In fact, the bold-faced efforts of those anti-gay-marriage "task forces" proved to be successful in recent days. Shortly after the initial ruling was handed down - in a wink - organizers snapped up enough signatures to qualify for the Nov. 4 ballot.

If the initiative passes muster in the fall it would overrule the court's decision by amending the state constitution to limit marriage to a man and a woman.

In spite of the fact an attorney strenuously argued that failure to grant the "stay" would result in great chaos across the nation, the Justices stuck by their gavels.

In fact - the four justices who rendered the decision today - were part 'n parcel of a majority opinion that found withholding marriage from same-sex couples constituted discrimination in the initial ruling.

In spite of the fact the hold-out dissenters on the bench thought a hearing on whether the stay should be granted was warranted, their pleas fell on deaf ears in the final hours.

As is usually the case in such high-profile court rulings, the majority did not elaborate on its reasons for denying the stay.

The one-page order saying its original ruling on marriage will stand and be final at 5 p.m. on June 16th will obviously become a treasured historical document for many.

Fan gets physical...PDA ban lifted for a sec!

Old-fashioned Courtship preferred...

Last night I slipped into The Abbey for about thirty minutes to check out the scene.

After all, the trendy watering hole on Robertson in West Hollywood is quite the social whirl around 6 p.m. on Sunday evenings.

Good-looking, fashionably-attired patrons are inclined to sip on exotic cocktails, engage in a little cruising, and occasionally shake their booty a bit when an upbeat popular hit strikes up over the powerful loud speakers strategically placed around the artfully-decorated bar.

After chatting up a handful of acquaintances, I sauntered out into the street, homeward bound.

To stay in shape, I usually stroll around the pristine neighborhood on foot - rather than hop in my wheels. After all, burning a few calories here and there, keeps my lean bod in shape!

As I headed up Santa Monica Boulevard, I suddenly spied two handsome young men making a beeline for me.

Or, was it my imagination?

I half-expected that when they neared my position on the sidewalk - that they would skirt to one side - and let me pass. Surprise! Instead, the duo strutted right towards me, and summarily, blocked my path!

Was I going to finally have the opportunity to try out my Karate on real live subjects, at long last?

Finally, when one of the dudes got about "this-close" in my face, his eyes went wide as he stared into my eyes and gushed -

"I want a hug!"

Well, in my youth, public displays of affection (PDA's) were greatly scorned upon. But, what the heck, I was in a good mood.

A fan is a fan, right?

Needless to say, at the back of my mind, I thought the request odd in the bright light of day!

As we hugged for a sec, his friend chimed in, "He wants 'ya".

Sorry, dude! A lone hug would have to suffice.

After all, I'm one of those old-fashioned types.

I prefer to be wined and dined a bit before I'm inclined to jump in the hay!
