Anthony Weiner...Dave Letterman "queer" for scandal-ridden politician? Shaved pecs a turn-on!

Studly Dave after-hours at CBS!

Though political pundits (and critics from across the aisle in Congress) have been poking fun at scandal-ridden Anthony Weiner's crotch shots surfacing on social hubs around the Internet, Dave Letterman has been inclined to flatter the beleaguered man-of-the-hour who got caught with his pants down.

"I've seen the naked photos," quipped toothy Dave to his rapt audience the other evening.

"Weiner has nothing to be ashamed about," the popular talk-show host beamed with admiration, as the packed house roared back in response.

Obviously, the comic has been scrutinizing the stills up-close-and-personal for some inexplicable reason.

I expect - that like any hot-blooded male - Letterman was just checking the "dude's" tool out (like guys tend to do at the urinal in the mens room) to get a sense of how he blessed he is compared to the rest of the male species.

After all, every dude hankers to know where he - um - measures up when it comes to his "junk".

But, when Letterman persisted with the dialogue last night, it begged a question.

Is Dave queer for Weiner's man tool?

Dave Letterman...last words of Osama bin Laden! Brian Williams & a bit of levity welcome!

On the heels of a slew of screaming headlines - and a barrage of exclusive minute-by-minute alerts spewing out all the titillating details of the Osama bin Laden stealth shake-down which resulted in his death yesterday - the late-night talk show circuit has responded to the call.

Yup!

Just maybe, a bit of levity is what a healing Nation needs right now to lighten up!

Trust Dave Letterman to dive it and take a shot.

Tonight - with Brian Williams standing in the wings - the toothy stand-up comic offered up a hilarious top ten list which speculated on what Osama bin Laden's last words were before he bit the bullet big time.

There were quite a few zingers in the batch of quips which brought the house down
My faves?

*My horoscope says big surprises are in store

*See, this is why I normally don't answer the door

*The one time I give my bodyguards a day off to go to the zoo

*I hear Williams is on Dave Letterman to discuss my imminent demise

*I'm not sure I want to live in a world where Fast Five is the #1 movie

*I need a house full of Navy Seals like I need a hole in the head

*Oh, crap
I was delighted when the quip about the news anchor's slated appearance on Dave Letterman tonight fell on my ears.
After all, I alerted my readers to that fact earlier this morning!
I LOL!

Does Dave peruse the Tattler?

Things got a little ugly when Mr. Williams alighted in the hot seat, though.

With a bit of ceremonious flare, the witty newsie rustled up front page headlines from two prominent U.S. dailies published today, which underscored that the fugitive terrorist was the scorn of the country still in the wake of his sad demise..

Obviously, in view of the screaming captions which read as follows
"Got Him."
"Rot in Hell."

The latter was one I featured in a post today at the Tattler

Was that the reason why my "hits" soared into the stratosphere over the past twenty-four hours

Yes, in addition to being a historical turning-point for America in the war against terrorism, my Osama news coverage catapulted me into the highest ratings bracket ever on the Internet since I first started up my humble blog on a Fox site ("On the Lot") about three years ago.

Once the kidding was aside, Dave probed Brian Williams about his role in the Osama scheme of things, though.

Allegedly, Mr. Williams was perched in his armchair on Sunday eve - like many Americans around the Nation - when he spied a message from a Senior White House Official on his blackberry.

Just as the well-respected newsman was about to respond to the text message, the telephone rang.

At this juncture, a sketchy account of the events unfolding at that hour was relayed to Williams, who immediately dashed upstairs to pack so that he could dart off to the studio to commence with a round of exhausting insightful news reports for his employer at a powerful network.

"My wife actually had the car in the driveway - with the engine running - pointed in the direction of the road to expedite my departure."

"That was the first time she didn't aim it in the direction of the house at you, I bet," Dave kidded.

The audience roared!

The domestic humor sat well with the audience.

By the way, the well-manicured newsman underscored that he was admonished not to tell anyone about the startling news story that was breaking about Osama bin Laden's unexpected demise at a staggering fast-pace.

I expect that with any other individual - loose lips would have sunk ships - in the 11th hour.

In a candid moment, Williams noted that he attended the roast for Donald Trump on the weekend, and that there was not even a hint from President Barack Obama's corner that anything was going down at that hour.

Talk about a poker face!

Sly devil!

When the conversation turned to Osama and revelations about his upscale digs just outside of the capitol of Pakistan (which I reported on earlier today) Williams actually cursed out loud!

"I was pissed," he lamented to all within earshot.
"Folks used to be consoled by the fact - that although Osama bin Laden was not captured - at least he was forced to endure untold humilities - hiding in caves, for instance - to avoid the long arm of the law," he reminded Dave, in so many words.

"But, no, apparently he was camped out in a million-dollar mansion with all the creature comforts," he hissed in disgust.

Did Mr. Williams take the position that the Pakistan Government - and its top-notch (!) security forces - were keenly aware of the fact that Osama bin Laden was in their midst?

Uh-huh!

"Yeah, that was kind of hinky," Dave half-scoffed half-joked in response.

Nope.

The excuses of Pakistan officials didn't pass the smell test, in my estimation.
After noting some of the details - in respect to the specifics of the luxury Century 21 digs (as he put it) - Williams followed up with a sizzling assessment.

"We were built better," he stated matter-of-fact, as he beamed with pride over the outcome.

The studio audience applauded loudly and cheered wildly!

That Williams has a way with words, doesn't he?

"It was a thumb in our eyes for years (elusive Osama) - ever since President Bush vowed to hunt him down and nab him."

Surprisingly, Williams noted for the record, that he once travelled with the Navy Seal 6 team that pulled off the mission without a hitch above-and-beyond the call of duty.

"I was sworn to secrecy when I was hitching a ride to Baghdad.a few years ago."

The popular highly-rated anchorman characterized the real-time coverage of the ambush - watched closely by the awestruck President and solemn Mrs. Clinton - as "harrowing television".

Obviously, from the expressions on their faces, revealed on CNN news clips broadcast tonight world-wide.

Williams applauded President Obama for issuing a memo in the recent past, in which he instructed the CIA and the military, to give Osama bin Laden's capture a top priority.
Today, Barack Obama must have been strutting around the hill, with a big swinging dick hanging between his legs, eh?

Power is the most potent aphrodisiac.

When the topic turned to the specifics of the President's order, Williams begged off.
He confessed that he was not privy to the contents of the directive - and, in particular - was not aware of the details (whether or not the hush-hush document stipulated to capture or to kill bin Laden on sight, for instance).

However, he asserted that Osama bin Laden's "alleged" corpse (my words, not his) was treated with the utmost of respect..
The standard was high. The body was washed and wrapped in white linen. And, there was a member of the clergy present to officiate at the unceremonious dump into the sea.

But, Letterman's jokes about Osama being on the way to hell right about now, signalled that the sometimes goofy talk-show host was ignorant of at least one reality.

While some folks may think that a burial at sea - in this instant case was the best end scenario - I am reminded of an old Buddhist teaching about our existence on this mortal coil.
According to the great Masters - Buddha, for instance - in the end we are all just drops in the ocean in a spiritual sense!

Has the Government unwittingly immortalized the terrorist by casting him into the sea where he may become "one" with God?

In the aftermath, Williams speculated that branches of al qaeda still remain, to rise up and plague Americans in the future perhaps.

"Everything is in play," he summed up to a hushed audience.

On a humorous note, Dave congratulated Williams on his new toupee.

"Oh, it''s great. I swim in it. And, it is so lifelike, isn't it?"

Underneath surface appearances
Balding Dave was green with envy, just betcha.
He should invite Pop Diva Elton John on one night - to engage in a demonstration for his male audience - on the merits hair plugs.

Sir Elton may be able to coax Prince William along - which would be a ratings bonanza for Davey, no doubt!

Provided the segment did not broadcast on the night of a world series match!

Oh Land...pretty Pop flavor appears @ trendy Cafe Du Nord! San Francisco! April 13th!

Oh Land, the pretty bombshell Pop Singer making waves around the country with her hit dance tune -"Son of a Gun" - is sashaying into San Francisco to open for "Francis and Lights" at the Cafe Du Nord on Wednesday Night (April 13th).

Readers at the Tattler may recall that I posted a review of her live! Stage Performance which I caught at The Abbey in WeHo a few weeks ago.

Post:  02/14/2011

http://ijulian.blogspot.com/2011/02/oh-landlive-performance-abbey-hit-with.html

Since then, as predicted, the Danish lovely - with oodles of talent and charisma to boot - has been trotted out to perform for gushing audiences on the Late Night talk-show circuit (Dave Letterman, for example).

Oh Land - while thrilled with the attention - remains down-to-earth and realistic.

"So, already at 10,  I was aware that I could be replaced by somebody else at any time. I definitely grew up with a number on my belly," she confided to a reporter at the San Francisco Examiner.

"Because at Ballet school (which she vigorously attended in her youth), half of the ones they took in each year were thrown out the next, and you would get a letter each year, telling you if you could continue or not. It was quite horrible," she recalled in horror.

And, you thought the Black Swan (Natalie Portman) had it bad!

Now, in the realms of the Pop spotlight, does she have to worry about being just a flavor of the month?

The Strokes...appear live! on Dave Letterman! Hard-hitting sound!

If 'ya missed the Strokes live on stage on the Jimmy Fallon show the other evening, you have a second shot at catching the band in their element in front of a captive audience.

On April 7th, the hard-driving band - with the sexy swagger, chic stage presence, and tunes that resonate - will be appearing on Late Night with Dave Letterman.

The Strokes are a five-piece band who hail from New York.

Julian Casablancas (Vocals), Nick Valensi (lead guitar), Albert Hammond, Jr. (rhythm guitar), Nikolai Fraiture (bass) and Fabrizio Moretti (drums) are the band members to keep your eye on.

The winsome fivesome emerged from the “Garage Rock Revival” in early 2000.

The sexy hard-hitting Strokes offer up an eclectic mix of glaring guitars, speedy percussion, and catchy lyrics that resonate.

With each new release, the talented band gains momentum.
The Strokes have sold-out shows in the UK, the U.S. and Europe.

A headlining slot at Lollapalooza in 2010 catapulted the Strokes to even greater heights.

A current round of the late-night talk-show circuit is bound to elevate their status on a greater International scale and trigger humungous sales for their upcoming album (released in the next week).

Catch the Strokes wave, eh?

Justin Bieber...top ten list pokes fun at celebrity! Dave Letterman show!

Last night Justin Bieber surprised fans and television viewers alike when he popped up on the stage of the Ed Sullivan Theatre to take a poke at his celebrity status for Dave's ever-popular Top Ten List!

Although the segment is a biit spotty at times - poorly-written now-and-then and often missing the funny bone by a country mile - the Bieber material was pretty high calibre!

A couple of my fave jabs?

*It’s good to be a pop star without having to audition for American Idol's Steven Tyler.

*Cross me and I’ll have 50,000 screaming girls come to your house to mess you up.

*When I’m sick my doctor makes hilarious jokes about Bieber fever.

*The chance to visit The Late Show and my idol Paul Schaffer.
(Canucks always stick together, 'ya know?)

*At the Barber shop, I can say, “Give me the me.”
(Is that kind of like jerking off?)

*If I tweet  “I just sneezed” a billion people will tweet “gesundheit.”

You betcha, kid!

Don't want some nasty cold putting a damper on your next stage performance!

By the way, the "Bieb's" delivery wasn't half-bad.

The diction was pretty good, in fact!

The pop star showed potential in the comic-timing department, too.

Are romantic features on the horizon?

Later!

Dave Letterman...Ooops moment! Ryan Seacrest pot shots! Say what, Paula Abdula?

Boy, that was quite an Oops! moment last night on the Dave Letterman show!

Do you suppose the head honcho at Worldwide Pants (Dave Letterman) fired a camera operator at the crack of dawn this morning?

Or - just maybe - a stage manager's head will get the axe later in the day.

Who knows!

Bottom line?

There was definitely a slip up in communication somewhere along the line.

The unthinkable occurred about half-way through the highly-rated talk show.

On a return from commercial break - suddenly (without warning) - viewers at home found themselves staring at a ghastly shot of Dave bent over his desk (caught in the act of snatching up a scrap of paper off the floor) with a bald spot "comb over" on the crown of his head in plain view!

Judging by the embarrassed look on his face, I surmise that Dave was unaware that he was on air , when he finally righted himself in the chair.

When the cameraman quickly cut-away to Paul Shaffer - the awkward look on the bandleader's face said it all  - you betcha!

Uh-huh!

Dave got caught with his pants down!

Ouch!

For some inexplicable reason, Letterman had the knives out for Ryan Seacrest last night.

After mentioning a bit of scuttlebutt about a guest referring to themselves as a "douche bag" on a New Years show (hosted by the perky DJ and Dick Clark on another network) Dave was inclined to issue a cautionary warning to everyone within earshot in the event they were not in the "know" about Ryan.

"That Seacrest guy pulled a Jay Leno. Got them all fired. He's the one with all the money, 'ya know," he kidded.

At the end of the segment (and at the close of the show) the camera focused on a blow-up photograph of Ryan Seacrest tacked to the studio wall - all smiles - in spite of the fact he was not a guest on the show.

Bizarre!

But, Paul Abdul's interview was the most intriguing, to say the least.

Reluctant to initially reveal the specific details of her new dance show - slated to broadcast tonight on CBS - Dave was forced to joist with her a bit (the segment was painful to watch and tantamount to pulling teeth ) to get his money's worth.

Ms. Abdul is either in denial or just totally clueless.

For instance, when Dave quizzed her as to the whereabouts of Simon Cowel these days, she tried to subtly insult the former American Idol Judge she once worked alongside.

"Oh, he's doing a small show," she uttered up with a straight face.

When asked how much she liked Cowell, she was quick on the uptake.

"About this much," she teased, as she used her fingers to elaborate her point.

If you read between the lines, you probably figured it out.

Abdul, who has allegedly slept with Cowell, was inferring that he wasn't very well hung.

As to the show, Abdul was referring to X Factor - an overseas hit that Cowell is currently involved with  - expected to fair well when it launches in the U.S.

If Ms. Abdul appeared on the Late Show with the aim of changing her image - without doubt - she failed miserably.

How long is this scorned woman going to try to save face, as she continues to make a fool of herself on Network TV in front of an amused world?

Cher...comments about "old" fans & oxygen tanks insulting! Last gig @ Caesar's...

Rags to Rags

"I'm often mistaken for a Cher impersonator," the sexy sixties pop icon joked to Dave Letterman this week after plunking herself down on the coach on the set of the late night talk fest.

But, it was the asssessment of her audience, that may have offended a few of her die-hard fans, though.

"They're old," she seemed to shudder at the thought!

The fact that these golden-oldies showed up with their oxygen tanks in tow (her words, not mine) caused her to opine that the upcoming gig @ Caesars Palace (Las Vegas) may be her last.

On that note, the Bob Mackie (middle-aged) Barbie, was inclined to protest about the price of the tickets.

"My young fans can't afford the venue," she lamented.

Well, about a free concert or two in park, Cher?

Apparently the award-winning chanteuse is a bit miffed about becoming a joke in the macho set.

After all, folks have reported back that they've heard unkind remarks about her, when it comes to a trek to the glitzy Hotel in the desert oasis.

"I'm going to take 'ya to see that old lady at Caesars while I go off and gamble," two-fisted beer-drinkers have been known to chortle.

OMG!

Has the sultry siren lost her sex appeal?

Meanwhile, Dave was surprisingly keen on tackling all fronts, as he held her captive on live TV.

"Was you son "Chaz" a lesbian before he got the sex change," he probed, as a hush fell over the room.

Cher nodded in the affirmative.

During the course of the conversation the aging cougar admitted that it was a difficult situation from the get-go.

"If I was in a man's body, I'd be so unhappy," she added, without blinking-an-eye.

So, she summarizly gave Chastity the nod.

No word on the scuttlebutt.

Did Momma pay for the expensive transformation?

I laughed when toothy Letterman zeroed in on Cher's love life.

"You dated Warren Beatty," he started off slowly.

"Yes."

"And, Tom Cruise?"

"Yes."

Although there was a perfect opportunity for Dave to quiz her about the allegations that Cruise is "gay", he gave a wide berth, and avoided that potential controversy.

Gosh, he didn't even bring up the subject of Scientology.

By the end of this titillating segment, Dave was posing a mighty personal question.

"Have you slept with 100 men, then?"

The audience roared.

"Well, everyone was promiscuous in those days," Cher offered up in her defense.

When the touchy issue of the Rock 'n Rock Hall of Fame Award reared its ugly head, she remained pretty low-key.

Just maybe, Cher realizes now that her whining in Vanity Fair didn't do much to bolster her image.

Cry baby!

But, the Pop Icon managed to slide in a slight, before she signed off.

"It's all about coolness," she teased.

Say what?

It's not about the music?

Dave Letterman...grosses out audience! Bruce Willis spoofs Lady Gaga!

Bruce Willis brought new meaning to the term "meathead" last night on the Dave Letterman show.

But, it was daring Dave who totally grosssed the studio audience out.

Willis, a regular guest on the highly-rated talk fest, triggered a lot of applause and a thunderous roar of laughter when he strolled out from behind the celebrated curtain with a toupe crafted of "meat" on his usually-bald head.

Of course, the "Moonlighting" star of yesteryear, was spoofing Lady Gaga who turned up at the MTV awards a scant few days ago in a cocktail dressed fashioned out of cold meat cuts.

The die-hard super-stud proceeded to snatch up salt & pepper shakers from Dave's infamous Late Show desk - at which point - he seasoned the tasty-looking head-dress.

Then, he offered the toothy talk-show host a bite!

Quick as-a-wink, Letterman pulled out a fork, and positioned it over the top of the star's head.

Guests watching from the sidelines went wild!

Then, a second later, Dave  scooped up a forkful of the raw ground beef from Willis's scalp and held it within a few inches of his mouth.

A huge moan of misbelief went up from the stands.

No, he wasn't actually going to eat it, was he?

Before they could answer that question, Dave plopped the disgusting-looking stuff into his mouth.

Whoah!

In another hilarious segment, Willis joked that  he was on the "outs" with management at the sports arena.

In another hilarious moment, the staff ran a video of a fan dashing across the field stark naked, with security in hot pursuit (who, surprisingly enough, looked alot like Willlis).

Precious live TV moments, both.

Demi Moore's former hubby was actually there to promote his new flick - RED - which opens Nationwide on October 15th.

The feature boasts an all-star cast and is sure to rustle up tickets sales at the box office in coming weeks.

Katherine Heigl...charms pants off Letterman before cigarette closure!

That old dawg Dave has eye for ladies!

Katherine Heigl revealed on Letterman last night that she sure is a stylish woman of the horsey set.

And, capable of charming the pants off a man - Dave Letterman's - at least.

When the conversation turned to "kickin' the habit", the effervescent blond slid a cigarette out of her clutch purse wwithout batting a pretty eye-lid, and proceeded to gaily puff away as the toothy talk show host gazed on with a puppy-dog-look on his dazed face.

In fact, within minutes - the budding philanthropist (a few days ago Heigl coughed up $1 million for a charity with a mission close to her heart) - also the articulate bombshell of the hour (sounds like an incongruity of terms, doesn't it?) was casting a spell over the known ladies man that was difficult to shake.

If he wanted to, that is.

In one captive moment - when Heigl handed the smoke over to Dave - he eagerly snatched it up for a puff or two without hesitation.

I was flabbergasted.

Dave didn't appear to have any concerns about the potential dangers of passing saliva.

Uh-huh.

That was the tip-off.

Dave must be an old joint-smoker from way back!

Of course, Heigl and Dave weren't taking a drag on just any ordinary tobacco cigarette.

Heigl's stash - known as an "e-cigarette" - is a product that was designed to allow the smoker to inhale nicotine and puff out harmless water vapor.

"You blow out water vapor so you're not harming anyone around you and you're not harming yourself," Heigl confidently explained to Dave and his rapt audience.

"I'm essentially humidifying the space."

The "smoking stick" minimizes the craving for real nicotine cigarettes.

When quizzed further, Heigl giggled in the affirmative that the user may become addicted to the device.

But, what a chic way to go!

Dave Letterman...eats Pizza with Madonna! Harry Connick Jr. croons!

That was quite a coup for Dave Letterman last night!

A low-key Madonna sat down on the couch for a casual chat with Dave, and then - on a whim - dashed downstairs to a local pizza parlour with the toothy talk-show-host to chow down on a tasty piece of New York style pizza ringside on a busy NYC street.

Dave got a real kick out of the moment - so much so - that he tossed off his suit jacket - and dove in for a big bite.

From what I could gather from my perch, the pizza was of the thin crust variety, though.

Not my favorite!

I prefer pizza with a crust that puffs up, and slops over with gobs of melted cheeze, and generous portions of pepperoni and pineapple on top.

Hawaiian-style!

Then, after commercial break, Harry Connick Jr. strode out and belted out a tune from a new album.

The other late-night talk show hosts must have been chomping at the bit.

Kudos, Dave!

Last night you were Numero Uno on the talk-show circuit without doubt!

Sarah Jessica Parker...Letterman interview boring! Baby talk yawn...

On the hit show - "Sex in the City" - Sarah Jessica Parker plays a character who is - outgoing, perky, down-to-earth, smart, funny - far removed from her true persona off-screen.

For starters, Ms. Parker is overbearing - painfully so -as evidenced by her appearance on the Dave Letteerman last night.

Once all the perfunctory tasks were out of the way, Dave made the big mistake of casually inquiring about her children.

Oh, boy!

Talk about a doting mother!

As Ms. Parker rattled on and on about her little darlings, it became evident she's a little koo-koo when it comes to parenting.

When she raved about what a genius her son was, it was pure - "only a face a mother could love" - kind-of-material ripe for cynical pokes from stand-up comics and Late Night talk-show hosts.

Judging by the way Ms. Parker gushes ad nauseam about her son, it is quite evident, that if the popular actress continues with her excessive unhealthy "smothering " that the boy is going to be facing therapy in his adult life (and he'll probably turn out gay).

Sarah, do you realize how boring you are?

Take a cue from Carrie - lighten up!

Dave Letterman...gets MoJo juicing with record label! Runner Runner first pop-punk band on roster...

When some old dudes start to feel  a bit past their prime - and mid-life crisis sets in - they may be inclined to plop down a fistful of big bucks for a top-of-the-line sports car.

Yeah, a Ferrari seems like such a waste, with a balding silver-haired Lothario behind the wheel, eh?

Letterman, on the other hand, has found another way to get his MoJo juicing.

Worldwide Pants, Inc. - Dave's show-biz entity - has just rustled up a recording partnership with Clear Entertainment/C.E. Music

Runner Runner is the first pop-punk band to sign with the music label.

The Huntington Beach-based group will debut a roster of tunes in a few months.

In the meantime, music-lovers who want to get a jump on this scintillating new entry into the rock world, may catch their lively single "So Obvious" at their my space web site.

Justin Bieber ...conquers Dave Letterman Late Show! Pop Idol charismatic...

Justin just a kid!
(with a lot of raw talent)

The traffic stalled, and the atmosphere was electric, as a throng of excited fans queued up in downtown Manhattan in front of CBS studios to catch a glimpse of heart-throb Justin Bieber who was slated to make an appearance on the Dave Letterman show.

The pop star (who hails from Stratford-on-Avon in Southern Ontario) was expected to alight from a chauffered vehicle right before their eyes before being ushered inside the Ed Sullivan Theatre to unveil his spanking new single "My World 2.0".

Wherever Bieber shows up these days - at a recording studio or movie screening at a local movie house - a posse of die-had fans appear out of the woodwork anxious to bask in the glow of his moment in the sun.

And, Dave Letterman was inclined to milk it for all it was worth!

Although Bieber is only sixteen, the toothy late-night talk-show host, wasn't a trifle worried about hustling the rising young star out-the-door early into the show so he could be home in his comfy bed by midnight.

With wicked glee, Dave forced Bieber's fans (even loyal studio audiences) to wait with bated breath until the near-close of the show to catch the sexy pop crooners performance live on stage.

Right after commercial break - and after other high profile guests had evaporated into thin air - Dave Letterman introduced Bieber with little ado (and a touch of amusement in his voice).

When the first strains of the upbeat catchy tune revved up, Justin - clad in chic black leather jacket, tight-fitting jeans, and blood-red sneakers - strutted about the stage confidently with a puppy-dog look on his face sure to melt the  crustiest old cynic in the house.

I expect that tomorrow - ensembles pieces will be flying off the shelves of retail outlets around the country - provided astute in-house stylists are quick on the fashion uptake.

Flanked by two gifted dancers on each side - Justin threw his heart and soul into a tricky eye-catching highly-choreographed dance routine - somewhat reminsicent of those that other boy bands dazzled us with over the years.

But, the fresh-faced cover boy managed to breathe new life into the little-bit-pop little-bit-soft-rock bubblegum act.

I expect that a handful of fans below the floodlights edged forward in their seats every time Justin pounded his heart with a hand  gesture that drove home the depth of his passion.

Oh, baby!

The gig ended in thunderous applause, but not before Dave Letterman got a dig in, edgewise.

"So," Dave teased, "I guess your mother is going to pick you up?"

Yup.

Even pop stars have curfews, especially when they're just sweet sixteen!

Ah, the sweet bird of youth, eh?

Conan O'Brien...CoCo's 30-city tour! Kicks off in Eugene...

NBC monkey on CoCo's back!

Conan O'Brien - fresh off a tustle with NBC over the Jay Leno time-slot fiasco - will be packing up his kit 'n Kaboodle and heading out on a National Tour.

The thirty-city trail-blazer will include much-anticipated comedy stage performances live at Radio City Music Hall on June 1st & June 2nd.

With tongue firmly in cheek - and a devil-may-care attitude - the fun-lovin' stand-up comic has titled his sojourn into the wilds of the heartland as:

"The Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour"

The phrase was coined with NBC's contractual agreement first & foremost in the funnyman's fuzzy little brain.

For example, when O'Brien settled his differences with the peacock network, he agreed not to perform on the old boob tube until after September 1st.

Obviously, the binding NBCdirective  would give Jay Leno ample opportunity to regain his stature (and top ratings) in the late-night talk-show circuit, without interference from the red-haired one affectionately known as CoCo to loyal fans.

O'Brien is promising a show that will offer up a night of music, comedy, hugging (as they say at Facebook, I like!), and the occasional awkward silence (in lethal doses, no doubt).

The tour will kick off in a humble (but celebrated) venue in Eugene, Oregon.

Obviously, there is no bad blood between Conan and his former employers, when you consider that the King of off-beat repartee, will saunter into Universal Studios on April 24th & April 25th for local gigs sure to sell out (psst! NBC owns Universal).

American Express scooped up sponsorship duties without blinking an eye.

The tickets are reasonably-priced at $39.50 at the economical end.

Sarah Palin...stand-up comic routine laughable! Ice Queen not funny...

Jay Leno offers up stand-up tips!

Palin clan to flaunt dirty laundry in reality show!
(how I spent my fall vacation)

After catching Sarah Palin's attempt at stand-up comedy on the Jay Leno show, the casual observer may find it a snap to fathom why (at long last) there was such a frenzied (back-stabbing fuss) over the recent late-night talk-show wranglings.

Stand-up is not an easy row to hoe, after all!

In Palin's case in particular.

For starters - like her bid for VP in the last election alongside hapless-hopeful John McCain - her timing (if you can call it that) was way-off.

In fact, her stale low-key fodder (meant to ingratiate) amounted to a series of one-liners tossed out at break-neck speed without much style or panache.

Instead, the forced quips fell flat.

Part of the problem, as any seasoned pro will attest to, is that Palin failed to recognize the importance of the "pause".

While it is not always required that it  "refresh", it should certainly not reflect that a comic is slipping into actual meno-pause (for image sake, at least).
George Burns and Jack Benny were masters at stand-up.

And, the former Ice Queen could use a little help in the recovery department, too.

Dave Letterman, King of the "dead joke" syndrome, is a good role model in that regard.

For instance, if Letterman goes out on a limb - and off-kilter out-of-whack material R.I.P.'s on stage - the toothy comedian is always able to turn the flub into a humorous moment.

Unfortunately for Palin, that's a skill she's not going to pick up overnight since the ability to turn a disaster into a side-splitting hilarious jolt of laughter (and wild applause) requires years of treading the boards in whiskey joints and concert halls around the heartland.

A well-written joke - even a funny one - is not always going to triumph unless the elements - emphasis , rhythm, timely appeal - are all in tandem.

Palin tended to be more like a juggler who dropped her pins mid-flight than one who was just humming along in control with the audience tightly-held in greased palm.

That issue aside, Palin is definitely not one to rest on her laurels, though.

In fact, if the scuttlebutt be true, the gun-toting fur-bearing former Governor, is planning a come-back of sorts (to ressurect herself in the eyes of die-hard Republicans around the nation) by way of a spanking new tome.

There should be enough fodder to rustle up a gaggle of  talk-show appearances - at which point  - the feisty Northern Hunter may feel more comfortable in front of a critical audience out to lynch her normally.

Then, there's the reality show!

Uh-huh.

One of the popular gossip tabloids spilled the beans that Palin & family may be inviting the searing eye of the tawdry reality show circuit  into her Alaskan igloo for an up-close lookie-loo.

At this point, the spunky go-getter, appears to be the little ice sled that could.

David Letterman...Drew Brees Super Bowl champion guests tonight! Sports illustrated swimsuit edition...

Tonight, Drew Brees, appears as a guest on Dave Letterman fresh off of the gridiron from his glorious victory at the Super Bowl yesterday @ the Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens (Florida)

The agile athlete - with movie star looks - will take a comfy seat next to Oscar-nominated Sandra Bullock (The Blind Side) who will also be appearing on the heels of her Oscar nomination.

Although Brees will undoubtedly be the big attention-getter for the most part, a posse of hot-blooded studs will obviously channel surf over to CBS tonight to catch the unveiling of the latest Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition.

Hot nightime bill of fare, Dave!

I expect the ratings will go through the roof and the competition will be licking their wounds at the crack of dawn tomorrow morning..

Later!

Jay Leno...Comics tar & feather NBC's strutting peacock...

Will Leno take it on the chin?

Well, if Jay Leno was sprawling on the couch last night - snacking on natchos and flipping channels to rustle up a bit of material for this weeks run of "show" of "shows" - it was probably a tough row to hoe.

No wonder!

All over the night-time TV talk-show terrrain, the slack-jawed comic's contemporaries were tar-and-feathering the peacock network's top dawg!

Dave Letterman lit into him, for example, without mercy.

In a monologue called - "Law & Order: Leno's Victim's Unit" - he lumped the whole sorry cast of late-night comics together (Conan, Fallon & Carson Daly) and branded 'em Leno's victims.

Ouch!

Then, Dave drummed up a hilarious impression of the beleaguered comic - which was pretty darn impressive - according to most side-splitting accounts.

"They just want Conan to quit and go away and do a show in his basement," he later huffed.

Jimmy Kimmel - tossed on a "do" and in-your-face chin - and spiced up the schtik with an acid quip or two.

Will Leno take a swipe back tonight - or, be a goodie-two-shoes - and take it on the jaw?

News at - um - 10!

Jay Leno Show...mystery solved! Slippery syndicated slope revealed...

Jay & Conan hatch an escape scenario!

Even stupid pet tricks couldn't have saved Leno!

Last week I was confronted with a perplexing situation.

Every time I started to insert "tags" for a post about to be published on the Internet, one for the "Jay Leno Show" would slip into the designated box mysteriously (of its own accord).

If the curious phenomena occurred just once, I might have written it off as just one of those "things", that unexpectedly goes bump in the night now and then.

But, after about five times, my intuitive (psychic) side whispered in my ear that something was up.

Although I didn't know what, I was inclined to keep my focus in that direction.

Sure enough, by the end of last week, the rumors persisted that top honchos at NBC were engaged in serious talks in the boardroom about the Jay Leno Show and its eventual demise.

Confidential inside sources whispered that Jay's show was getting the axe!

Although the network suits denied it, the tongues continued to wag nonetheless.

Finally, over the weekend, NBC brass was ready to cry "give" and admit the awful truth.

The Jay Leno show was dumping big-time in the ratings race!

And, the whole tawdry misstep, was having a domino effect on the peacock network.

Local affilliates saw their ratings dive, for example, when Leno failed to deliver up ratings on a silver platter (as promised?).

Right out of the gate - it was obvious to moi - that the big-chinned comic's try-out in the big leagues wasn't going to pan out.

And, there were a myriad of  reasons, why.

For example, although the tonight show took a short hiatus before revving up for Jay's new incarnation, no one on the creative team appeared to have put much thought or effort into re-tooling NBC's crown jewel.

Did they even bother to add a fresh coat of paint to the set?

Indeed, just beneath the egg-shell surface, the stale old format was poking through.

Sure, the first week out, Leno boasted a smattering of high-profile comics (Jerry Seinfeld, for starters) and a glittering roster of popular actors to act as bait (but once that novelty wore off  it was the same old same old).

The truth of the matter?

A talk show slotted in at 10 pm on a major network just doesn't have the capacity to take off - or sustain itself gangbusters - from the very get-go!

Think about it.

A feature film scheduled for broadcast during the entertainment hour is likely to hit half-time around ten in the evening (and roll the credits just shy of the nightly news).

Unless there is a top notch guest on Leno, it's doubtful many folks would switch the channel and interrupt their popcorn movie.

Granted, if there was a popular guest on one night, viewers might dicker over whether to tune in to catch the much-gabbed-about appearance (if President Obama was guesting, for instance).

But, guess what?

They'd just  flip back to the previous programming once they've satisfied their curiosity.

The ratings bonanza the first week out, was an easy one to fathom, by the way.

TV viewers tuned in en masse to check out the new kid on the block, and to have something to chat about at the water cooler next day at work.

Yup!

Audiences are a fickle lot, alright.

Just ask Jay!

Jay in drag didn't boost ratings even a smidgen!

Dave Letterman...catches twitter rage! Newbie notes lesbo Ellen boasts 4 mil followers...

Life is tweet!

Dave Letterman stepped out of the dark ages last night and crafted his first tweet!

A few seconds shy of the momentous event, the toothy talk show host - like a kid with a new toy (or an old letch with a hot new babe) - rambled off a handful of statistics with elation.

"Oprah gets three million tweets," he excitedly pointed out to his rapt audience.

PC savvy bandleader Paul Shaffer was inclined to toss in a comment from the sidelines at this juncture.

"Followers, Dave. Not tweets."

The scandal-ridden late show personality was a bit confused about the semantics of the ongoing twitter trends floating internet surfers'  boats around the globe.

Amused, Dave corrected himself.

"And it says here," Dave interjected with glee, "that Ellen DeGeneres has four million."

There were some oohs and aahs from the audience

"But," Dave chuckled,"I expect most of those are lesbians, so it probably doesn't count."

The audience howled.

Dave giggled for being so naughty.

Since Ellen and her fans follow moi, I'll tweet this little update on Dave, so they'll be sure to get their t**s all-a-twitter over the less-than-tweet comment Dave uttered at the witching hour last night.

Surprsingly, the Dave Letterman show could only boast a paltry three thousand "followers", according to Letterman, who was surprisingly mum on the Tiger Woods dilemma.

"That's because people don't know you tweet, Dave," Shaffer comforted him from his lofty perch on the sideliness off-stage.

Also, birds of a feathe, tweet together, I surmise (in private and away from the likes of facebook friends who press their ears close to the wall, I expect).

With a bit of fanfare, a staffer plunked a computer down in front of Dave, and strolled off.

"They've brought me this twitter machine so I can tweet," Dave mischievously pointed out to his die-hard fans hanging on every word.

"That's a lap top computer, Dave," the bandleader pointed out.

The virgin tweetie was a bundle of nervous energy and raring to boldly twitter where none of the Letterman clan had ever ventured tweetly before.

As Dave started to key in a word or two, Schaffer was about to interrupt again, when Dave shooed him off.

"Paul, please. I'm doing something here."

A second after he turned back to the keyboard, he whirled around - gazed into camera with a schoolboy's expression of joy and wonder on his face - and noted some important information to be mindful of.

"Oh, you can only use 140 characters, too. So, if there is an emergency or something, forget it."

Once Dave managed to key in a tweet, he was in a quandry about how to proceed.

"What now?"

A handfulf of knowledgeable tweeters in the studio instructed Dave to hit enter.

Once done, he was a bit perplexed.

"Well, did it go," he wondered aloud in so many words.

Apparently Dave failed to strike the update button, but - once done - the twitter newbie proudly learned his tantalizing message was "received".

What were the first words spoken - and sent whizzing across the blogosphere - at the twitter site?

"Do you smell fried peppers and veal?"

"I thought I smelled fried peppers and veal just as I was about to tweet," Dave dead-panned to the camera.

I expect there will be a few hilarious replies this morning from Dave's followers.

In fact, now that Dave is a celebrated twitter aficiando, I expect his number of follows will leap.

I just signed on "to follow" Dave for curiosity sake.

Just how good a speller do 'ya think Dave is, after all?
