San Francisco...thugs mug pedestrian for laptop! Crime alert!

Looks like the picturesque enclave by the Bay is coming of age - and suffering the blues - because of it.

Last night, at approximately 11:15 p.m., a pedestrian was strolling down Church Street just off Market when a trio of thugs appeared from behind, snatched a laptop from his hand, and darted off down a side street into the dank dark night!

For a moment, the startled tourist was tempted to chase after the culprits (a heavyset thief in a light grey hoodie in league with two wiry ne'er do wells in black jeans, t-shirts, and windbreakers) but common sense got the best of the victim.

Down the poorly-lit alley, maybe the hoods would be laying in wait, to jump out of the shadows and tussle him for his wallet?

Personally, I was shocked by the turn-of-events j- which took place out-of-the-blue - on the edge of the Castro District across from the well-travelled path to the Safeway Grocery store.

In recent days, the morning daily has reported that there has been an increase in thefts and break-in's around the middle-class neighborhood in San Francisco.

However, the incidents seem so distant,  when the callous crimes are coldly published in black-and-white.

I was also amazed that the muggers chose the target they did - an able-bodied man about six feet tall - who could obviously fend for himself.

An old lady with a purse, caught off-guard, appears a more-likely candidate for this kind of ambush.

Which stresses how desperate these criminals are in these tough economic times!

For this reason, I have penned this post, to alert residents and tourists alike about the dangers of going out at night in San Francisco.

Ironically, it should be noted that the Toshiba PC had a security code.  So, the rotten bullies won't be able to gain from the fruits of their ill-gotten labors!

Las Vegas Mob Experience...Tropicana exhibit to feature Bugsy Siegel & Meyer Lansky!

The myths and legends of Las Vegas mobsters got a new boost on Tuesday when it was announced that the Tropicana Hotel is installing a tribute to a handful of underworld characters who once reined supreme in Sin City many moons ago.

The "Las Vegas Mob Experience" has the backing of relatives of the likes of - Meyer Lansky, Bugsy Siegel, and Sam Giancana - too.

In fact, thanks to their contributions, the much-anticipated chronicle of gangster-life in the early days will be fleshed out to include insightful home movies, one-of-a-kind photographs, and a treasure trove of memorabilia that organizers brag will throw the spotlight on a side of the mobsters never seen before.

One novel aspect of the exhibit is a series of spiritual ghost guides and radio-frequency chips to guide intrigued guests on their foray into the fascinating realm of gangsterdom.

And, state-of-the-art technology will also allow adventurous fans to interact by inputting choices, squealing to the fuzz, or just adding their own imaginative twist to the mix.

Some have wondered if the upcoming Tropicana project (created by Plainjoe Studios) may crowd the much-anticipated opening of the "Las Vegas Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement" which is scheduled to throw open its doors in the near future too.

The general consensus is “no”.

The Tropicana exhibit is backed wholeheartedly by the City of Las Vegas and the Mayor, his honor, Oscar Goodman.

And, the bevy of bodacious babes he usually has in tow, I expect.

If my readers attempted to cruise over to my personal web site - http://www.julianayrs.com/ - they were  probably shocked at first by what they encountered.

Instead of my usual bevy of juicy daily posts - on gossip, political news, and social events - a DNS notice indicated that the computers were not loading properly, that the highly-trafficked site wasn't accessible, and that Earthlink was responsible.

The note that there were "no records" was quite alarming, too, as you'll understand fully when you read on.

On occasion, if the web site address is inputted into the browser, the individual is actually transported magically to a google site which lists a number of my posts published over the past few months.

Huh? 

What you witnessed was the hi-jacking of my web site by a posse of conspirators I have determined to be the CEO of Earthlink (my original web host provider) and Netfirms, Inc.

My readers may recall that I recently posted an article about Earthlink in which I noted that the company had engaged in acts of attempted embezzlement of funds, breach of contract, fraud, and failure to meet the terms and conditons of a contractual agreement.

Shortlly after that article was posted on my web site, suddenly, www.julianayrs.com disappeared from the Internet.

In its place was a brief announcement.

GONE

In small type the message (from Earthlink) noted that the resource (once situated at that location) was no longer available.

In essence, Earthlink retaliated against me (illegally and in violation of my rights) by pulling the plug on the web hosting plan.

However, after-the-fact, Netfirms (who obviously has a personal and professional relationship with Earhlink) proceeded to engage in a conspiracy to hi-jack my web site and prevent me from transfering my domain name (which I own) to another host plan I purchased about thirty days ago.

For instance, when I attempted to log in to my control panel - in spite of the fact the security code was correct - an error code appeared.

I fired off an e-mail to technical support to ask that Netfirms kindly correct the glitch in their system.

Imagine that, they didn't respond for over a week.

Is it because I accused them in my e-mail of conspiring with Earthlink to deny me access to my site so I could not transfer and/or build the entertainment news website elsewhere?

About a week later (!) Netfirms fired a communication back stating for the record that - indeed - my security code was correct. 

However, they failed to respond to my questions about denial of service to the control panel.

If the security code was correct, why couldn't I log in, and transfer my site to the new host?

Netfirms has not responded to a second e-mail regarding these matters as of this date (February 9th/2010).

Curiously, registration is due in ten days, so I have to consider the possiblity that they are also angry over the fact I have been anxiouss to transfer my account to another company that is not trying to create a monopoly on the registration "domain" business (as Netfirms appears to be doing).

In view of the foregoing, I apologize for any incovenience this has caused my loyal daily readers.

Today, I have lodged a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and the Federal Trade Commission against both Netfirms Inc and Earthlink.

In addition, I intend to file a criminal complaint for conspiracy and violations of consumer rights (fraud, attempted embezzlement of funds, etc) at the FBI's cybernet crimes unit for investigation and prosecution in the event these matters fall under their jurisdiction.

Well, we're always reading in the newspaper about some dumb thief who screwed up because of a lack of smarts!

Can't win, eh?

Maybe it's time to put the boot on the other foot!

The dumbest cops must be the two I spied on Lincoln Boulevard the other day in picturesque Santa Monica, California.

As I sauntered by their squad car, one officer on the passenger side fumbled with a set of keys trying to gain entrance to the vehicle.

On the driver's side, a second copper struggled to effect a break-in.

Was the remote left behind at Winchell's Doughnut House?

Duh!

By the way, the criminals went that 'a way!
