San Francisco Giants...Ka-ching! Baseball frenzy! Free Mohawk cuts!

As Hotel Managers scan their reservations with glee, and souvenir shops re-stock the shelves of their retail outlets as quickly as the precious pricey keepsakes fly out the door, a posse of city officials around the country are sitting up and taking notice.

If any self-respecting city or town was clueless about the financial windfalls involved - once a coveted slot in a World Series play-off had been snared - this week was a rude wake-up call.

Just betcha there won't be any resistance or fall-out in the future when local politicians or savvy land developers make a costly bid for a sports team or a snazzy state-of-the-art stadium - with the ultimate aim of courting great athletes and the riches they are capable of rustling up.

Of course, the influences are far more reaching than that.

Today, for instance, the newspapers were awash with features on style, that just may trigger a fashion trend or two before the top dawgs in baseball have finished duking it out.

If dudes are inclined to copy-cat their sports heroes - and follow thru with a moratorium on shaving - just betcha they'll be willing to shell out a bit of hard cash for a stylish trim at a minimum.

Two salons (barbers, if 'ya want to be butch about it) quick on the uptake in Frisco - jumped on the frenzied bandwagon already - and started offering up "drive-by" Mohawks or fauxhawks in Union Square.

OMG!

Nearly slipped my foggy brain!

Devil-may-care die-had fans are trotting down to Union Square today - before Game 1 of the World Series kicks off - for a quick scalp cut.

The brave-at-heart will be between 12 noon and 2 p.m this afternoon.

And, there is an extra added treat thrown into the mix, too.

The owner of Sweet Creme Brulee will be offering up a flaming house favorite gratis for those with the ba**s to follow thru.

Scraggly fuzz on the mug, just won't do!

Giant fans - of the sultry shapely female persuasion - won't be left out of the dugout either.

Braidhawks are available, too!

See 'ya there!

San Francisco Giants..."Freak" strikes out BRAVES! Fans storm stadium! Playoff # 2!

The "Freak" dominated with stylish delivery!

44,000 hyped-up hopped-up fans (the 2nd largest stadium turn-out in the past decade) packed the AT & T Sports arena to capacity last night - frenzied media hounds scrambled about on the sidelines to capture a dynamic publicity still or two for posterity's sake - and popular home-town athletes stormed on to victory to thunderous applause.

But, not without a little controversy, in the interim.

What appeared - at first -a bad call initially (on the heels of a fast high-and-wide throw) paved the way for an auspicious chain of events (comparable to a stack of dominos falling in tandem) that dove-tailed sweetly to seal the fate of an end scenario sports enthusiasts will be recalling with glowing tributes for decades to come.

For starters, pitcher - Tim Lincecum - was in spectacular form.

The lithe long-haired stud muffin held Atlanta at bay with 2 hits and a phenomenal fourteen strikes-outs.

"Tonight, he went out and pitched as fine a game as you can ptich," raved one baseball enthusiast.

The freak (he is nick-named so because of his exaggerated wind-up and individualistic delivery) dominated with a dynamic performance that never let up.

In spite of being singled out so expressly - as a one-man tour de force - fans and sports writers alike acknowledged that it was nothing short of spot-on teamwork that nabbed the match for the Giants in the first game of the series playoffs last night with such ease and grace.

Today, meanwhile, fans are ecstatic and chomping at the bit, as they gear up for another big night under a canopy of stars.

And - the Giants intend to sport their Orange Jersey's - to celebrate in true Friday night tradition!

Round 2!

Uh-huh.

Sold out!

But, not to worry - loyal die-hard fans, a smattering of local and National celebrities, and handful of high-profile double-talking politicians - already have their hot little tickets in hand.

News of the outcome at 11!

Debbie Reynolds...Ruby Red Slippers for sale, girls! Auction for memorabilia!

Debbie was part of infamous dance trio

Dorothy's original ruby red slippers!

Now that Hallowe'en is coming up, some of you gals in Frisco may be looking for a cheap - but sparkly pair - of ruby red slippers to slip on in the event you head out at the witching hour on the 31st of October.

Or, just maybe, you've got an eagle eye out for a sleek sexy gown to trip-the-light fantastic in?

Then, the Debbie Reynolds auction was tailor-made for you!

Poor Debs!

Due to a sad turn-of-affairs - her valuable collection of Hollywood memorabilia - is going on the chopping block!

The dazzling spoils that the show-biz legend squirreled away over the years are now part 'n parcel of a dizzying collection of keepsakes - that was supposed to be included in a Museum at a Belle Isle Village tourist attraction in Pigeon Forge - astride the Great Smokey Mountains National Park.

Reynold's son - Todd Fisher - confirmed that most of the construction was completed on the project, but the developer ran into some financial snafus, which prompted a bankruptcy filing.

Now - the assets (of which the treasure trove of Hollywood goodies is one) have to be liquidated to satisfy the demands of the creditors.

Are you in the market for a fur coat once worn by Orson Welles in Citizen Kane?

With black lace stockings peering out from underneath, some sassy gal will be the toast of the town in that, no doubt.

A perky school-girl -type may go for the frock that "Dorothy" wore in the Wizard of Oz!

But, if a sexy dame with a svelte figure has it her way - and the bucks to  match - she'll spring for the little number that screen siren Marilyn Monroe (sex goddess extraordinaire) wore in the "Seven Year Itch."

Although Ms. Reynolds has the option to buy back the collection, the perky star of screen and stage has shrugged in dismay at the thought.

"There is nowhere to house the collection, so what good is that," she has wailed to friends, in so many words.

Ms. Reynold's son - Todd Fisher - backs her on that.

So, the auction will take place in New York City before June (2010), unless a White Knight gallops up.

My feet are too big for the slippers, but just betcha that fur coat would not only fit, but keep me snug and warm on frequent trips back to the great white north.

With PETA screaming bloody murder in my wake!

This is Tinseltown, and I can dream, can't I?

Debbie still a high kicker!

Las Vegas Mob Experience...Tropicana exhibit to feature Bugsy Siegel & Meyer Lansky!

The myths and legends of Las Vegas mobsters got a new boost on Tuesday when it was announced that the Tropicana Hotel is installing a tribute to a handful of underworld characters who once reined supreme in Sin City many moons ago.

The "Las Vegas Mob Experience" has the backing of relatives of the likes of - Meyer Lansky, Bugsy Siegel, and Sam Giancana - too.

In fact, thanks to their contributions, the much-anticipated chronicle of gangster-life in the early days will be fleshed out to include insightful home movies, one-of-a-kind photographs, and a treasure trove of memorabilia that organizers brag will throw the spotlight on a side of the mobsters never seen before.

One novel aspect of the exhibit is a series of spiritual ghost guides and radio-frequency chips to guide intrigued guests on their foray into the fascinating realm of gangsterdom.

And, state-of-the-art technology will also allow adventurous fans to interact by inputting choices, squealing to the fuzz, or just adding their own imaginative twist to the mix.

Some have wondered if the upcoming Tropicana project (created by Plainjoe Studios) may crowd the much-anticipated opening of the "Las Vegas Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement" which is scheduled to throw open its doors in the near future too.

The general consensus is “no”.

The Tropicana exhibit is backed wholeheartedly by the City of Las Vegas and the Mayor, his honor, Oscar Goodman.

And, the bevy of bodacious babes he usually has in tow, I expect.

Sonny & Cher...dolls @ BabyJane in West Hollywood!

If you're a doll collector - and especially if your collection focuses on celebrities - you may want to dash over to BABY JANE (a memorabilia shop stacked to the rafters with priceless goodies) at the French Market and snap up a set on display in the window (complete with original boxes and crafted in the image of a celebrated couple who once graced the little boob tube each week in an off-the-wall variety show).

You betcha!

Sonny & Cher are together once again (separated only by a bit of cardboad & plastic) in the display window of the popular destination spot.

The quaint shop - where you can locate just about any piece of trivia or novelty item related to a celebrity you pine for - was previously situated near the back of the Market.

But, now - in a spacious new setting up front - film buffs and fans are able to take a gander at wall-size movie posters splashed across the expansive walls instead of having to roll them out on the floor from a bin at the counter for a look-see.

The owner use to be my landlord a few years go in Hollwyood.

Coincidentally, the tiny sidestreet in the hills where the building was situated, used to boast a turn-of-the-century home where Rudolph Valentino once resided. .

Ironic, that!

Valentino and I share the same birthday (May 6th).

One big difference between the famed heart thob and moi, though.

Rudy was a silent film star, while I'm a loud-mouthed superstar!

Stop by BABY JANE and check out all the delightful keepsakes on tap.

By the way, the name of the collectibles shop was coined from one of Charles' favorite films starring Bette Davis and Joan Crawford.

You got it.

Ringo Starr...snubs fans! Beatlemania lost dream for some...

Bird in the hand worth two signatures in the bush...

Ringo Star has posted a notice on his web site announcing that he will no longer sign "ringed one" memorabilia - or mementoes from the Beatle era for that matter - as of October 20th.

Why?

Mr. Star has been whining to anyone within earshot that he's too busy - with irons in the fire - to take time out to delight his fans or show any appreciation for all their support and adolation over the years.

Big mistake!

Ringo - perhaps when your fans stop buying your music (the watered-down stuff you try to pass off for it, anyway) and the concert halls remain empty - maybe you'll magically find there are a few hours here and there in your empty schedule to give the precious gift of life.

Yup!

Everyone is just pining for your signature on one of your tired old photos featuring a ubiquitous shaggy mop, hawk-like snoz, and a bevy of gawdy rings on grubby fingers that once greedily grabbed for the ready hot cash when time permitted.

Give us a break, Mr. Starkey.

Who needs you anyway?

One over-the-hill Beatle - in and out of the courts titillating gossip-mongers who peruse the tabloids at the supermarket check-out - is quite enough for public consumption, Sir!

Sarah Palin told us you were a terrorist, anyway!

O.J. Simpson...guilty! Las Vegas jury convicts...

Just before 11 p.m. last night, the verdict was read by the Jury foreman.

"Guilty!"

A panel of nine women and three men deliberated more than thirteen hours before rendering their decision.

Mr. Simpson, and his accomplice - Clarence Stewart - were convicted on twelve counts stemming from a much-publicized armed robbery and kidnapping incident which took place last year in Las Vegas (NV).

After the verdict was read, the Heisman Trophy winner was cuffed by a deputy and led away to await sentencing.

Although there were three weeks of testimony to sift over, insiders say it was a handful of secret audio recordings, that probably turned the screws on O. J. Simpson and his partner in crime, Clarence Stewart.

The tapes were damning, for sure.

The defense attorney's argument that the altercation - which took place in a hotel room in the gambling mecca in the desert oasis - was simply a botched attempt to recover memorabilia stolen from Mr. Simpson just didn't fly.

"You may all say he didn't use common sense. But the real issue is whether he had criminal intent to commit a crime," attorney Yale Galanter argued in closing statements.

The prosecutors, on the other hand, managed to convince the jury that the armed robbery was masterminded by Simpson who called upon five disreputable ruffians to carry out his nefarious plan.

The state established in the eyes of the jury that Simpson and his cohorts robbed the victims at gunpoint after they were tricked into thinking they were going to savor a windfall sale with a wealthy collector.

Chris Owens, the State prosecutor on the case, convincingly argued that "they thought they could spin it" because - after all - it was Simpson's stuff anyway.

The jury found differently.

O. J. maintained he never saw any guns during the shake-down - in spite of the fact witnesses testified at trial that they packed two revolvers that day - a .45 caliber Ruger and a .22 caliber Beretta - at Simpson's request.

But, it was probably a twenty-six minute encounter which was slyly taped after the ballsy robbery, that probably did the former NFL player in.

One of the gunman met with Simpson at a local restaurant after the robbery and was questioned as to whether he "pulled out the piece" in the hotel hallway.

Simpson was anxiety-stricken over the possibility that the overt act may have been captured on the Hotel's security cameras for future referenc.

Clearly, Simpson was trying to determine if there was any evidence on tape establishing the brandishing of guns, so he could tailor his defense accordingly.

During the course of the trial, friends and business associates turned against Simpson to protect their own hides.

In return for becoming state witnesses, four of the accused were permitted to plead guilty on lesser charges.

The counts of armed robbery and kidnapping against Simpson and Stewart carry potential life sentences.

I goofed!
