Miss Universe...Miss Mexico nabs Crown! Brett Michaels hosts Trump snake-oil pitch!

Expensive fabrics draped the toned bodies of pretty contestants dripping  with dazzling gems, Hotelier Donald Trump urged television viewers to stay tuned because - after all - it was a live show (and “anything might happen“) - and a celebrity panel of well heeled Judges (which included one of the Baldwin boys, actress Jane Seymour, and ice-skater Evan Lysacek) struggled with the tough task ahead.

Selecting a candidate to be crowned Ms. Universe 2010 was not going to be an easy assignment - especially in view of the bevy of breath-taking beauties who turned out - in a bold-faced effort to snatch up the coveted title.

The telecast broadcast from glitzy Las Vegas was a splashy entertaining extravaganza which occasionally crossed the line and became a two hour commercial touting hair products, luxury resorts, and a surreal superficial dream that smacked of crass commercialism (though attainable).

What do you expect from "The Donald" - who co-host Brett Michaels referred to as - the Rock Star of real estate development?

The pageant contestants - who were little more than glorified Ambassadors of beauty for a host of Nations - strutted the stage in chic designer threads, bared their souls in backstage confessions, and ultimately fought tooth-and-nail underneath thick skin for a shot at a Diamond Nexus Crown and a swag bag that included a designer wardrobe, a year's supply of hair products, a closet-full of shoes, you name it.

In a dramatic moment - geared towards uncovering the stuff each model was made of - five of the finalists selected a question from a glass jar (transparency is important now-a-days in view of past scandals) to expound their lofty thoughts on.

One young woman noted that she wasn’t opposed to body scans at airports if it was going to save lives.

Another gorgeous gal appeared to miss the point when she objected to Government laws that enforced codes of dress in public, social, or work environs.

"Women should be able to wear what they want," she quipped without batting a make-up-laden eye-lash.

The root of the issue - religious considerations, for example - totally escaped her.

Did a government have a right to bar a modern woman from observing her cultural leanings or religious faith?

One sly gal asserted there were no incidents in her past to be concerned about - then confidently - gushed to the Judges that there was nothing she would do differently in her short life to date as a consequence.

Someone will probably drag out erotic nude photos of her nubile young bod in the near future, just betcha!

At this juncture, the gracious entrant thanked her family and friends for their loving support.

Brett Michaels was okay as a co-host and managed to pull off the task without any hitches.

I guess Ryan Seacrest wasn't available.

Brett was impeccably turned-out in an elegant black tux which featured satin flourishes on the lapels, shoulders and pockets, velvet button-down vest, and dress shirt open at the collar.

A silly necklace - and ubiquitous bandanna - turned the look into a fashion disaster in the final analysis, though.

Was he covering up a receding hairline, thinning hair, or what?

The fashion parade of designer gowns modelled by the beauty Queens was a visual delight.

As John Fever tickled the ivories - and belted out a ballad - the stunning models floated across the stage and  wowed the captive packed house below the footlights who excitedly broke into raucous rounds of applause throughout the heady evening.

The outfits ran the gamut from elegant and chic to dowdy and overdone.

Miss Ireland's necklace competed with a gown that - on its own - may have survived close scrutiny otherwise.

The contestant from Albania was stunning, on the other hand, in an open-backed diamond-studded gown accessorized with tasteful jewellery.

The gown worn by Ms. Philippines bellowed a big bow and long train which turned out to be a lot of excess baggage that bogged her look down (in my estimation).

The aqua number by Miss Jamaica was downright tacky - mainly due to the fact - there was too much design effort at the chest and waistline that distracted and weighed the outfit down.

The red flowing designer piece - with ruby button flourishes setting off a neckline - was a winner worn by Miss Mexico

In essence, the Pageant was all about knock-out female beauties, their heavenly charms, and the swirl of perfumed air they waft on.

The Miss Universe broadcast included product breaks backstage - where reps from the sponsors of hair pricey products such as CHI - shared techniques in hair styling.
,
Tips, that required the use of the house brands provided by the sponsors, naturally.

Donald Trump - that rascal - took advantage of the broadcast to give Las Vegas and Nevada tourist hot spots a pushy plug.

Well-crafted video clips of Lake Mead (reservoir), Seven Sisters, and the Grand Canyon appealed to the senses - as far as contrived fluff goes - anyhoo.

The ladies demonstrated they were unselfish caring individuals when it was revealed that a part of the pageant activities included a drive to raise funds for a Nevada cancer charity.

The MGM Grand, the Mirage, Mandalay Bay (who hosted the pageant in their luxurious banquet room) and the Monte Carlo Resort were also featured in a larger-than-life promo that stressed how tactless a snake-oil-salesman Trump can be when given the chance.

One highlight of the night was a number - featuring five or six Elvis look-a-likes - performing a number from the sold out Cirque du Soleil live stage show titled Viva Las Vegas.

Male viewers were probably on the edge of their seats at home, panting over the swim suit segment, which was sizzling hot.

Models - perky, sensual, flirty - slipped into flimsy sexy bikinis (and heels) and walked-the-walk confidently as they savored their moment in the International sun.

Amidst the strains of "Hunka Burning Love", the girls paraded by, all flawless skin and lustrous "do's".

The set - crafted in grey metal - was too austere, though.

Cold, emotionless, too corporate.

Like the Ms.Universe competition?

Ms. Australia was chosen by her peers to take honors for Ms. Congeniality.

The TV viewing audience was given the opportunity to vote on the most photogenic model and best costume, to their delight.

In both instances, the fans chose Ms. Thailand.

When it came to the climatic moment to crown the new Ms. Universe there weren't any surprises.

1st runner up was Ms. Jamaica (who had been received well by the wild enthusiastic audience all evening).

But, a classic Latino beauty - with wide dark eyes and flawless skin - nabbed the Crown.

In view of all the illegal Mexican immigrant ink running rampant in recent days, I expect the honor boosted the country's pride in their homeland last night and on these troubled political shores.

In a heartfelt moment, the losing contestants swarmed the shy winner, and offered up congratulations like they really meant it.

Oh, there probably wasn't a dry eye in the house.

Yeah, I'm a sucker for schmaltz, too.

Excuse me while I go grab a hankie and blow my nose.

Til next year!

Zsa Zsa Gabor...glam legend slated to exit hospital! Hilton wealth & playboy lovers!

Zsa Zsa a great beauty in her day!

Merv Griffin & Gabor sisters!
(minus 1)

Zsa Zsa Gabor - known for the slap that was heard around the world - is slated to pack up her wigs and make-up bag and purr home today in hubbie's luxury Rolls Royce after a nasty slip-and-fall sent her to the hospital last week for emergency medical care.

Uh-huh!

Though, a rumored 93, Ms. Gabor still manages to capture the imagination of the curious masses around the globe.

Within minutes, Ms. Gabor was a trending topic on twitter, and the rumors and innuendo were in full swing.

Was she, like so many aging Hollywood legends, being held captive by unscrupulous jailors out to scoff up her jewels and rolls of Hollywood studio cash stashed away over the years?

Though basically a recluse - and boasting a Prince for a husband (often spied at Starbucks in WeHo ringside twiddling his thumbs over java) - many fond memories of Gabor's antics brought  a smile to the faces of many when the news broke.

"Oh, I remember Zsa Zsa from the Merv Griffen show. And, her sister, Eva," one local quipped to a bystander at Ralph's.

"She was the epitome of glamour," piped up another.

I met her on a movie set once in Hollywood and I recall that she was a swirl of fluffy boas and expensive baubles as she glided by with a posse of fussy handlers in tow.

When a Beverly Hills motorcycle cop pulled her over for a traffic violation a dozen or so years ago in the upscale enclave of Beverly Hills it was headline-grabbing news here and abroad; after all, Zsa Zsa was so incensed by his rude behaviour and reprehensible manners that she roundly slapped him across his handsome mustachioed face.

Many thought she should have maneuvered a date!

Suppose she would have been hauled into the slammer for attempted bribery, eh?

Merv, though scandalized a tad, appeared to applaud her ballsy bravado when she fluttered in to chat him up on the next talk show engagement.

The popular rotund talk show host - though rumored to be in an affair with sister Eva (a beard)  was just one of the girls who delighted in a bit of delightful gossip with the infectious Gabor sisters.

The fiery Hungarian was hailed as the first celebrity to be famous solely for her celebrity (thanks to Merv).

Sorry Paris, great auntie Zsa Zsa was light-years ahead of 'ya in that regard.

And, in recent years, Gabor has gained cult culture status for God-awful performances in old sci-fi low-budget thrillers that were plain CAMPY! CAMPY! CAMPY!

At one point, Liz Taylor was poised to become her step-daughter due to a couple of infamous trysts the two celebrated show-biz legends were scandalously involved in with male lovers that nearly hastened the odd-ball connection by virtue of star-crossed paths at the altar.

Zsa Zsa Gabor was born in 1917 (???)

"Probably," biographers have dubiously noted for the record.

The zaftig Gabor girls always did their best to confound the records (and snoopy folks who tried to fathom them) in order to conceal their ages (even their mother's reported date of birth varies by as much as five years give or take a decade or two).

As a young girl, Gabor may have competed in the Miss Hungary contest, or maybe not.

Years later, when Zsa Zsa swore up-and-down that her age was such-and-such, one astute guest nearby - with good arithmetic skills - jumped up and squawked that if that was the case she would have to have entered the infamous beauty contest she often spoke of when she was a nubile twelve or thirteen years of age!

At different times the three Gabor sisters have claimed to have won that pageant, or have been runners-up, with the same ensuing dilemma popping up to dash their efforts to remain younger than their years for reasons of vanity.

Age, lovers, and men have been a constant upset in Zsa Zsa's life to reckon with.

In 1937, Gabor married a Turkish foreign affairs minister considerably older than she was.

After she arrived in Turkey in the arms of her new beau, however, she alleged the marriage was never consumated in order to embark on a new romance with well-connected Kemal Ataturk - the President of Turkey - after she caught his eye.

Shortly thereafter, Gabor divorced her first husband in 1941 when she first arrived in America.

Conrad Hilton (Hilton Hotels) married Zsa Zsa in 1942 unaware that his young bride was a big spender who enjoyed the untold luxuries that life had to offer.

Her wanton excesses forced the Hotelier to place her on a $250-a-week budget which soured their marriage, according to their circle of friends at the time.

Before Conrad's daughter (Francesca) was born, Zsa Zsa had lost interest in the union.

So, when she crossed paths with actor George Sanders, she proceeded to set her sights on the rising star of stage and screen.

However, Gabor remained on 'amicable' terms with Conrad.

Smart gal!

In 1955,  he promised Zsa Zsa a special rate at all the Hilton hotels for the rest of her life, such a generous man was he.

After tying the knot with Sanders,  Zsa Zsa pined to be an actress.

In due time, she used her influential contacts to land small parts in low-budget films and on Television.

Zsa Zsa lucked out when she landed an important screen role in the 1951 film Moulin Rouge with Jose Ferrer.

However, film director John Huston allegedly kept Zsa Zsa on needles-and-pins when he persisted in constant humiliation tactics in front of the cast and crew, according to sources close to the actress.

Quirkier, more offbeat roles were offered up in 1950s, including a two episode stint on the popular TV show, Batman.

It wasn't below Zsa Zsa to play cameos as herself - which undoubtedly - led to her gathering fame over the years.

In spite of a long-lasting union with Sanders, Zsa Zsa was inclined to pursue a scandalous affair with a Dominican playboy by the name of Porfirio Rubirosa (known for his donkey dick among wealthy socialite ladies he teased and courted) in 1952.

Rubirosa's claim to fame (in addition to being well-hung) was a marriage to Woolworth heiress Barbara Hutton who was allegedly forced to pay princely sums in alimony when he packed his bags and left her for greener pastures.

In 1954, a black eye caused the rumor mill to speculate that the celebrated polo player beat Zsa Zsa, and was the event that triggered their eventual split as Internationally-known lovers.

To the bitter end, Gabor whispered to friends:

"He loves me."

The proud beauty explained it this way.

"Rubirosa in Spanish means red rose, for me it means black eye. A man only hits a woman if he loves her deeply."

Maybe folks will have some sympathy for Mel Gibson after all, eh?

Miss Teen (USA)...tonight! Stormi Bree Henley! Donald Trump! Paradise Bay!

The charismaic intelligent young ladies are savvy, goal-oriented, and aware - according to Officals - who are tossing a glitzy blow-out in their honor and broadcast live!  aound the globe tonight.

I am referring to the contestants in the Miss Teen USA contest - about to unveil their talents, special skills, and intellgence - amid a lot of pomp and - um - pageantry a few scant hours from now.

The current Ms. Teen USA  - Stormi Bree Henley - will be on hand to pass the Diamond-studded Tiara on to this year's lucky winner.

Miss Teen USA started up in 1952 under the guise of a local "bathing beauty" competition.

Catalina Swimwear (based in Long Beach, CA) transformed the little-Engine-that-could into an International annual tradition.

But, the contest has evolved into more than just a fluffy piece of girlish promotion orchestrated to sell swimsuits, make-up, and an all-American teen image around the globe.

Indeed, the International Organization - comprised of contestants and players - has evolved into a powerful, year-round endeavour that advances and supports opportunities for young women.

The Miss Teen USA celebration takes place at Atlantis in Paradise Island ( Bahamas) tonight
.
NBC Universal will broadcasts the Miss Teen USA competitions live during prime time in the United States.

NBC, through another arm, also distributes the much-anticipated show to International markets (approximately 170 countries).

The MISS UNIVERSE®, MISS USA® and MISS TEEN USA® pageants are produced by Miss Universe Organization, Donald J. Trump, and NBC in a Universal joint venture

Perez Hilton...Beauty & Beast in bit** fight! Mud-slinging titillates Nation...

This morning as I waited for the Newport Beach Film Festival lounge to swing open its doors, I popped into McDonald's for a morning snack and piping hot cup of java.

Imagine that!

The upscale fast-food outlet in this tony neighborhood actually has an expensive wide-screen flat TV installed so guests may take in a morning news show or two.

Shortly after I plunked down in my comfy seat, the anchorman on a popular Fox Network show, launched into a news feature about the Perez Hilton-Beauty Queen scandal brewing across the airwaves.

At the drop-of-a-hat, fascinated diners turned their heads to catch every salacious detail.

Of course, the highly-charged subject matter arises out of an incident this past week which caused quite a controversy in a myriad of socially and politically-correct circles around the country.

Perez Hilton, top blogger, appeared as a judge on a Beauty Pageant and posed (what many thought) was an unfair question to one stunning blond beauty who was just about ripe for snatching up the coveted crown from her rivals!

"What do you think of gay marriage," the Queen of the blogs pointedly asked the startled contestant on the Nationally-televised show, out-of-the-blue.

When she innocently spoke from the heart - and confidently noted that she felt that marriage should be exclusive to a man and a woman - the old you-know-what hit the fan.

Perez summarily dismissed her as a stupid bit** - and quicker than you could say cat-fight - the war of words and insults began.

I started to giggle a bit over the caption that the news outlet was inclined to plaster across the bottom of the screen in bold-face letters.

"The Beauty & the Blogger"

I turned to a lovely couple next to me and offered up what I thought was an astute observation.

"Shouldn't that read "The Beauty & the Beast?"

They both laughed out loud.

Then, the well-heeled socialite uttered up the quote of the day.

"Perez shouldn't have been on the panel. After all, that's kind-of-like a vegetarian judging meat."
