Nevada Highway Patrol...Captain Karen M. Lorenzo cover-up & conspiracy! Rogue cops Violate motorist rights!

A few weeks ago, I reported on the abusive conduct of a Nevada State Trooper by the name of Del Padre (Badge No. 691), who illegally harassed a motorist under the color of authority.

Post:  07/13/10

http://ijulian.blogspot.com/2010/07/chief-tony-almaraznevada-highway-patrol.html

After filing a complaint on behalf of the victim, I was quite annoyed to receive a response back from Captain Karen M. Lorenzo (at the Nevada Highway Patrol), who clearly chose to sweep the issues under the rug after-the-fact in a deceitful effort to protect her fellow officers from recrimination.

For example, in her terse response by U.S. Mail, Captain Lorenzo asserted as follows:

"An investigation into your complaints regarding Trooper DelPadre and Sergeant Haycox, employees of the Nevada Highway Patrol, has been completed."

"Although personnel rules prohibit me from discussing our findings and/or information about our employees, I can assure you that this matter was properly investigated and addressed. Furthermore, I can assure you that any sustained allegations of misconduct will be addressed administratively for appropriate corrective action."

Bullsh**!

If you read between the lines, it is quite evident that Captain Lorenzo is just as corrupt as the officers in question, if not moreso!

On its face the communication confirms how reluctant Law Enforcement Officers (and the powers-that-be in uniform) are - to not only take disciplinary action - but reveal to the public what penalty rogue cops will suffer for engaging in conduct that is both abusive to motorists but also in direction violation of their overall rights under the U.S. Constitution.

Shame!

Ms. Lorenzo should be strung up by the ti**ies and given a thousand lashes!

It is because of officers like Lorenzo, that a mockery is made of Law Enforcement, in the final analysis.

There will be rebellion in the streets if action is not taken against corrupt cops like these in Nevada!

Amen.

Tony Hamilton...actor's meteoric rise to stardom & tragic end!

One day, a casting director gave me a shout and asked if I would mind doubling for an actor for an independent feature, "Mirrors".

In those days, I was a bit of a workaholic and always in need of ready cash, so I jotted down the location address and dashed out the door full of vim and vigor.

As I was signing in with the assistant director, a breathtakingly handsome actor appeared at my right and strode confidently across the sound stage towards us.

"Tony, this is Julian. He'll be your double today."

We subtly sized each other up, then settled in for the task at hand.

Although location shoots may be adrenalin-boosting on occasion, this shoot proved to be somewhat draining; so, when I was wrapped early in the evening I was out the door before the ink was barely dry on my pay voucher.

Tony was still on the set rehearsing for the martini shot.

Shortly after that gig, I occasionally bumped into Tony (Hamilton) after hours on the night-club party circuit in West Hollywood.

He cut a fine swath around town, in his black 450SL Mercedes Benz convertible, as he hotly pursued his career (and addiction to sex) with lusty carefree abandon.

Hamilton was born in Liverpool and grew up on a sheep farm in Australia.

Fate appeared to nudge him into the dance arena - in part due to the fact - a significant portion of the curriculum at the schools he attended (Scotch College & Adelaide) was focused on Ballet.

In fact, The Australian Ballet Company welcomed him into their fold after his formal training was complete and auditions established that he had not only a dramatic flair, but was blessed with a unique talent for dance.

During one performance in 1972, a fashion photographer noticed how photogenic he was, and offered him a career opportunity in modelling.

Tony quickly booked assignments in America, Europe, and Asia.

Richard Avedon bowed at his feet.

And, he was a favorite of Bruce Weber, a top photographer of the day.

You may have spied Hamilton gracing the pages of Vogue and GQ during his golden years, delivering up delicious fashion statements by the likes of visionary superstars such as designer Gianni Versace.

I was driving in hectic rush-hour traffic one day when there was a news flash on the radio.

According to the News Anchor, Jon Erik Hexum - a co-star on the popular action-adventure TV series "Cover-Up" - was toying with a prop on the set and shot himself accidentally in the head.

Hexum is pictured at the right.

The wound proved to be fatal.

In the wake of the tragedy, Tony was plucked from relative obscurity to step into Hexum's role.

Suddenly, Hamilton was thrust into the spotlight - and as a result - his star rose quickly.

Tony was particularly well-known for his perfect pecs, startlingly handsome face, and a steady gaze that could melt the hardest of hearts.

What a hunk!

As it turned out, Tony worked out at the same gym as I did, the Athletic Club.

The privatelly-owned hang-out for serious body-builders was a hop-and-a-skip down the street from the infamous Sports Erection - excuse me - Sports Connection.

One day, I dashed into the change room, tore off my clothes, and started to head for the showers.

Out of the corner of my eye, I spied Tony standing in the shadows, packing up his gym bag.

What a shock!

In the half-light, I noticed right away that Tony's face had a gaunt-like appearance, and that his body appeared to be startlingly thin.

I tried to conceal my first thought, but judging from Tony's all-knowing glance, he knew right away that I was clued in.

The tell-tale physical signs indicated he was obviously in advanced stages of the disease.

My heart sank!

Within a few weeks, the rumor-mill started up.

Within a short span of time, industry-insiders were keenly aware of his troubling medical problem.

Unfortunately, in those days - the 3-drug combo known as the "cocktail" which is used today to effectively combat the disease (and keep it at bay) - had not been developed by A.I.D.S. researchers yet.

When the word got out, casting directors stopped calling him for interviews - and producers and studio executives who once sang his praises - shunned him.

The news of the A.I.D.S. epidemic was just breaking in the media around the country and the hysteria had risen to a fever pitch.

Loved ones - even nurses and health-care professionals - were afraid to touch an A.I.D.S. patient for fear of catching the dreaded killer virus themselves.

The ignorance running rampant was astounding!

Sadly, Tony passed to spirit in 1995, after a bout of A.I.D.S. related pneumonia.

This evening when I was researching a few facts about his childhood years, I was quite taken aback to learn that Tony and I were both born the same year (1952).

Astoundingly, his birthday was May 4th, two days earlier than my own on May 6th.

Star-crossed lovers?

I'll always remember two things about Tony.

His stunning masculine beauty and his gentle loving spirit.

Who could ask for anything more?

Richard Raddon...resigns elitist post at the Los Angeles Film Festival. He hurt people so good riddance!

News has just filtered out that Richard Raddon has resigned his post as Director of the annual Los Angeles Film Festival.

Management at the Festival site issued a release in which they confirmed that Mr. Raddon - who was at the center of a controversy since it was revealed that he contributed $1,500 to the Proposition 8 campaign to ban gay marriage in California - resigned his post on November 25th (2008).

"I'm personally saddened by the outcome," said a Film Independent Board member - Bill Condon - writer-director of the hit "Dreamgirls."

"Someone has lost his job and possibly his livelihood because of privately held religious beliefs. I think the organization was ready to tough this out, but Rich ultimately decided it wasn't worth the cost. I'm not sure he was right."

On the contrary, it was right that Mr. Raddon resigned.

Notwithstanding his donation to the "Proposition 8" cause - Raddon also mistreated myself and others in recent months - in spite of the fact there was no conduct on our part that deserved such outrageous insults.

For example, I penned a post a few weeks ago in which I reported on improper conduct Mr. Raddon engaged in, in respect to access to festival events.

Mr. Raddon not only levelled strange abusive conduct at me in the month of June earlier this year, but also denied my entitlement (and right) to cover the Los Angeles Film Festival as a member of the press for no good reason.

In fact, in a perverse whim - last minute - odd-ball Raddon chose to deny me access to the Festival circuit in Westwood - and ultimately - discriminated against me in the process.

http://ijulian.blogspot.com/2008/06/los-angeles-independent-film.html

In view of the foregoing, I - for one - have no sympathy for Raddon's plight today.

In fact, Mr. Condon's arguments in support of Mr. Raddon, fall on deaf ears.

Deservedly so!

I say good riddance to a bad seed!

The creative community - and the film and gay community - will be better off without him in our midst.

Barack Obama...blacks have to be held accountable for their actions! Racism has nothing to do with it...

When Proposition 8 was passed in the November 4th election, I penned a post about some of the specifics pertaining to the protests that erupted in the streets of Los Angeles, in the wake of the unfortunate outcome.

In response, a blogger posted a comment in which he alleged that 70% of Blacks voted "yes" for a ban on "gay marriage", for good reason.

"Because gays in West Hollywood are racist," Monster 62 (!) lamented.

In a follow-up post, I laid bare such a notion and backed up my position with a solid argument.

In the final analysis, I asserted that the black community stabbed "gays" in the back.

Some have alleged in the front, too!

Therefore, I was quite appalled when I read in the weekend newspaper that protestors at a rally against Prop 8 in Los Angeles urged the emotionally-charged activists not to blame the black community!

After all, exit polls verified that blacks voted 2 to 1 in favor of a gay marriage ban.

I proceeded to denounce the anti-Prop 8 rallies on the grounds that the protestors were wrongfully "singling" out Mormons and Evangelicals and ignoring the truth.

Until the protestors were prepared to put part of the blame where it belonged - on the black community - I noted that I could not support their misguided harassment of a select few.

I was quite surprised (and thankful) to open the Sunday paper and come across an editorial by writer Gregory Rodriguez which appeared to be in accord with my position.

Ah, an individual not afraid to voice an opinion, for fear of being labelled a racist!

He started by saying:

"The chattering masses on the post-racial right say Barack Obama's win is one more nail in the coffin of affirmative action. It proves blacks are equal , they say, and therefore they don't need "special consideration" (Amen!) anymore. Abigail Thernstrom wrote it in the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday."

Maybe they're right, he continued.

"And gays' attack on blacks for voting to ban gay marriage is the proof. Since when have blacks been the target of left-wing opprobrium about the way they vote? At least since Obama was elected president."

Mr. Rodriguez proceeded to argue that because blacks had no power in the past they could not be racist.

"Difference plus power (old race warriors insisted) equalled racism. Those with no power therefore could not be racist, and by extension, could not be bigoted in other ways as well."

Then, he bold-faced argued that the ascension of an African American to the presidency changed that calculus, primarily because of the symbolism of a black man in the "White House".

At this juncture, he noted that he was deeply impacted by an image he caught on the local news.

A dejected gay protestor at an anti- Prop 8 march - he asserted - argued that blacks got theirs - in the form of a president - but did nothing to help the little guys.

"We're the last minority left," he wailed to the media.

In sum, Rodriquez smugly asserted, whether the gay man knew it or not - he was accusing blacks of doing what many other ethnic groups have done - joining the mainstream by stepping on the group below them.

Then, Rodriquez took a leap!

"I hate to say it, but that's the American way - a constant struggling of outsiders to become insiders."

"If the controversy about Proposition 8 tells us anything, it's that even as discriminatory borders fall, groups in our diverse society will continue to jostle for power, position, and whose vision of the country will prevail."

"Implicit in the criticism of black support for Prop 8 is the idea that, as historically oppressed people, African Americans should have greater empathy for gays. The assumption here is that they cast their ballots as a liberal or even progressive bloc of "black voters"."

That issue aside, Rodriquez also put forth the idea that blacks may have voted "yes" on Proposition 8, because they are all basically "Church-goers" with a traditional Christian ethic which see gay marriage as an abomination in the eyes of the Lord.

Hogwash!

If the sermons at the Churches they attend are anything like those wildly pounded out from the pulpit in Chicago by Barack Obama's pastor friend - what's his name - then it's easy to fathom why the black community has gone astray!

Notwithstanding, alleged Christians - involved in the Prop 8 controversy - have been quoting scriptures in support of their stance on a gay marriage ban - that have never been determined to be the actual "word" of God.

In view of the fact the Bible has been edited, rewritten, and updated - by a myriad of Church Officials with secret agendas over the centuries - the words within its covers can not be trusted to be held true.

Moreover, it should be obvious to anyone with a modicum of intelligence, that it is not necessary to turn to the scriptures to resolve the problem at hand.

If each of us simply recognized that all individuals are equal - no matter their race, color, creed, or sexual persuasion - the answer to the current "dilemma" facing the courts would be crystal clear.

It's the Devil in sheep's clothing along the way the trips up the many at the expense of the few!

Proposition 8...boycotts taking effect! Yes voters cry foul...

Opponents of Proposition 8 have shifted gears after protests in the streets earlier this week caught the attention of the National media.

Now, gay activists are moving ahead to exert their economic power, by boycotting businesses which voted "yes" on the initiative to ban gay marriages in the sunshine (!) State.

Ron Prentice of ProtectMarriage.com has called "foul".

"No matter what your opinion of Proposition 8, we should all agree that it is wrong to intimidate and harass churches, businesses and individuals for participating in the democratic process," he argued to the media in recent days.

According to Prentice, boycotters are "unabashedly trampling on the rights of others."

Not true!

I agree that harassment, per se, is wrong.

However, boycotters do have a legal right to stand in the street with signs and protest the actions of individuals and/or businesses that engaged in a process that they believe denied their rights.

And, on Wednesday night, an angry mob did just that.

Hundreds of protestors converged on the El Coyote restaurant on Beverly Boulevard - much to the dismay of the owners of the establishment - who have (by the way) collected many "gay" dollars for goods and services over the years.

For some inexplicable reason, El Coyote Manager Marjorie Christoffersen elected to contribute $100 to the "Yes" on Proposition 8 cause, which resulted in the protest outside the popular eatery.

Although the disciple of the Mormon Church allegedly appeared outside of the restaurant - and broke down in tears over the incident - protestors were unrelenting.

As they should have been.

Yes, California voters are entitled to cast a ballot as they wish, and contribute funds for a proposed initiative they opt to back.

Likewise, gay individuals have a right to boycott individuals and businesses who vote "down" their lifestyle and their inalienable right to equality pursuant to the California Constitution.

If the voters who supported Proposition 8 had any integrity, they would follow through all the way.

For example, "Yes" supporters would not seek out "gay" patronage or support any gay businesses, to underscore how vehemently opposed they are to the gay lifestyle and same-sex marriages.

While supporters of Prop 8 are inclined to deny gays the right to marry and equal status - ultimately - businessmen in the area have no qualms about accepting gay pinkbacks.

Indeed, the backstabbers seek the best of both worlds, to their advantage.

Sorry folks, it doesn't work that way!

In the wake of the boycotts now underway, strident opponents to gay marriage are now whining about potential losses and belly-aching about the gay community's bold-faced efforts to hurt 'em where it matters most, in the pocketbook.

The gay community has got 'em by the short and curlies, so why let go?

Fred Karger, a retired political consultant and resident of Los Angeles, put it succinctly when he made a statement to the press recently about the issue.

"People are determining who their friends are and who are not their friends. People need to be held accountable for their financial support."

Those interested in boycotting businesses (and individuals) who donated money in support of Proposition 8 may surf to the "Californians against Hate" website to determine who the culprits are and act accordingly.

http://californiansagainsthate.com/

Robert Hoehn (a VP at Hoehn Motors in Carlsbaad) - who contributed $25,000 in support of Prop 8 - is now suffering a lot of angst over his misstep.

He vowed to a reporter that in the future he'll find a discreet way to contribute funds without being found out by the gay community.

Well, he hasn't learned a thing on the heels of the controversy, now has he?

A boycott of Hoehn Motors should commence immediately.

Let's put that bozo out of business, straight away, folks!

Meanwhile, Ms. Christoffersen (El Coyote employee) left town.

If these individuals feel so strongly about the cause, and that what they did was politically and morally correct, why are they hiding their faces now?

Guilt? Shame? Conscience?

Well, to me, that signals a glimmer of hope...

Proposition 8...did 70% of Blacks vote down Gay Marriage? Are West Hollywood gays racist?

Yesterday, I posted a feature about Gay activists who protested the outcome of the Prop 8 initiative on Hollywood Boulevard the other evening, amid an overwhelming presence of riot police.

Some chastised the LAPD for "overkill".

Within minutes of posting, I was quite alarmed to receive a message from one blogger, who asserted that West Hollywood "gays" had it coming, essentially.

Here is what he said, verbatim:

on November 12, 2008 at 6:45 pm Monster 62

"I don’t know why that West Hollywood crowd are all pissed off at blacks because they voted 70% in support of Proposition 8. The reaction they are having toward blacks, etc. is “exactly” why they voted the way they did.

Everyone knows those Gays up in Weho are some of the most “racist” group of people unless it benefits “them”. Here’s some advice West Hollywood Group or Gay’s. How about trying to treat people the way you want to be treated.

If you all want Prop 8 passed one day and get the support — how about getting the support of these other “groups” and help them understand why they should support your cause. Calling people names and using the “slave derogatory word” won’t get you anywhere.

If anything it will make people vote against you. Final word, take “no one’s vote” for granite. Hatred and ignorance has no place in America anymore! If you want “America” to change — you have to start in your own house first."

Post: 11/12/08 http://www.julian1st.wordpress.com/

In my response comment, I noted - for starters - that there were more "blacks" living and working in WEHO than ever before.

And, I might add, in harmony with their neighbors!

I should know; after all, I've resided in West Hollywood for the past twenty years.

Frankly, Monster 62's response was out-of-line, if you ask me.

Not only have gays welcomed blacks, Mexicans - whomever - into the community with open arms, they also incorporated a city where gays and minorities could feel comfortable in their skin, at home in their sexuality, and free of discrimination.

Notwithstanding the obvious, when A.I.D.S. first broke out years ago, it was the gay community that reached out to all those inflicted when the government, straights, and the ignorant would not.

Despite skin color or sexual persuasion, gays offered medical services, shelter, food, and financial assistance.

The A.I.D.S. walk was also instituted, in a bold-faced effort to build a powerhouse of resources so scientists, doctors, and researchers could fight the disease and hasten a cure.

I find it appalling - if true, as Monster 62 alleges - that 70% of the Black community voted down Gay Marriage.

When gays jumped on the bandwagon, and started to back Obama in his bid to be 1st Black President of the United States, I recall penning a post that posed an all-important question of the Presidential hopeful.

Would Barack be urging his supporters to Vote "no" on Proposition 8?

If he took appropriate action, his voice must have fallen on deaf ears.

In retrospect, it appears that the Black Community stabbed all gays in the back.

Is that the thanks gays get for opening up their community in a spirit of humanity?

In view of what has transpired in recent days, I can only opine this.

Too bad we can't turn back the clock!

If blacks are unhappy with the gay lifestyle in West Hollywood, then they should find another community to leach off of.

They're a thorn in the community's side, otherwise!

Elizabeth Taylor...A.I.D.S. activist. The last great Hollywood star!

Every time a big event - like PASSPORT or the A.I.D.S. Walk - rolls around each year, I am inclined to recall the compassionate efforts of Elizabeth Taylor on behalf of the cause.

Last fall, Elizabeth was honored with a Humanitarian Award by Macy's for her courageous AIDS activism, at a glittering gala event.

Although the much-anticipated event attracted a bevy of beautiful models, A-list stars, and Hollywood's power elite, it was Ms. Taylor - the mega star - who knocked the crowd dead when she appeared on stage in a coffee-coloured gold-sequinned Naeem Kahn gown and a stunning collection of dazzling diamonds consisting of fifty carats in all.

The legendary star was presented the award for her tireless devotion to the A.I.D.S. cause which has raised millions for research and delivered up much-needed aid for those suffering from the disease.

I vividly recall the day a few scant years ago when a room-mate directed my attention to a two-line report in one of the local throw-away newspapers about a mysterious "cancer-like" disease which appeared to be striking young gay men.

Within a year, newspaper headlines around the globe were screaming about a widespread "gay plague", which had been given a curious name by the medical community: "Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome".

In the early days of the outbreak, there was a lot of hysteria.

The country was rampant with fear, overcome by widespread panic, and at a loss to comprehend the complexity of the issues.

Initially, because the causes for contracting the virus were relatively unknown - and so little was known about the deadly intruder - those stricken with the disease were shunned.

The paranoia was so great - that even life-long friends and cherished family members - were afraid to hug or kiss the bodies of the afflicted.

The ignorance was astounding.

The United States government further shocked a disbelieving medical community when they stepped into the fray; in a bold-faced effort to "curb the disease", they implemented a ban on any individual who tested positive for HIV from entering the country.

Injustice and troubling discrimination were the order of the day.

On the sidelines, I struggled to boost the morale of those around me, infected with the deadly virus.

One long-time friend was so afraid of being found "out" that he stored his AZT in vitamin bottles - prompted by the disturbing thought that on a trip to the bathroom - a friend or neighbor might happen upon the evidence of his infection in the medicine cabinet.

Others were so terrified of being spied in the waiting room of an HIV specialist's office - that they travelled miles outside of the city for medical care - where they were faceless and unknown.

One neighbor made a pact with his doctor to have his prescriptions mailed by the U.S. Post to avoid physically appearing in the busy clinic office

The stigma of A.I.D.S. was far-reaching and frightening.

As I reflect on the issue, I am flooded with many painful memories.

One week, a pal might be healthy, then - the next - appear gaunt.

If anyone was caught off-guard and inadvertently stared at him - like a cornered animal - he would defensively swear up-and-down that he had the flu (so mortified was he at the thought of being "found out").

And, for many, there were the unexpected middle-of-the-night emergency trips to the hospital to halt a nasty bout of pneumonia - or suppress some unknown invader attacking the immune system - brought on by a host of opportunistic infections.

One known actor - who appeared in a film about drug smuggling - was so concerned that Hollywood industry-insiders might catch wind of his infection that he passed on treatment.

Although there were medicines available to prolong the young man's life, sadly - because of the trauma of dealing with the circumstances - he was incapable of reaching out for any physical, moral or spiritual support.

I recall with disgust that a model - known for his breathtaking looks and manly physique - was quickly abandoned by casting agents and theatrical reps when his ravaged body first showed signs of the effects of the disease.

It was heart-wrenching to witness the disturbing demise of a person in the harsh throes of the initial discrimination in the early days of the outbreak of the disease in this country.

First hand, I also witnessed the horrors of the killer disease.

One day as I walked into my agent's office, he confided in me that he had tested positive for HIV.

After reading reams of data on the subject, I tried to coach him on the need to reduce his stress levels, eat a proper diet, commence with available drugs to combat the virus, and make an all-out constructive effort to take rein on his life.

Unfortunately, he was unable to manage his own self-care in any capacity.

He drew up his will, and was resigned to die, in spite of my urgent protests.

In the final stages of his illness, I'd appear at his bedside each day to hold his hand and give comfort to his weary body, all the while inwardly praying for a miracle.

In the last days, it was heart-wrenching to witness his faculties wane by the second.

Only after the pain became unbearable, and a morphine drip was administered, did he finally find peace after his gentle spirit slipped away from us.

Yes, the early days of the A.I.D.S. epidemic were shocking, heartbreaking, and discouraging.

In fact, it was not until it was revealed that Rock Hudson was dying from A.I.D.S., that the world became painfully aware that the virus did not discriminate - and that it could strike anyone - man, woman, or child.

At this juncture, Ms. Taylor stepped in and began to fight for the cause.

Initially - when Taylor called old friends and business associates for financial contributions, telephones were slammed down on her ear - she recalled at the gala with a bad taste in her mouth.

If anyone had a lot to lose in pursuing the ugly task, it was Taylor.

The celebrated actress first arrived in Hollywood several decades ago when her father, an art dealer, opened a gallery in Beverly Hills.

No doubt, this is how the connoisseur of fine paintings was introduced to her first love: Art.

With the nurturing support of her loving parents - in a few short years - Ms. Taylor was under contract with Universal Studios.

When Universal Studios dropped her contract, she signed on with MGM.

She first captured America's hearts in classic films like "Lassie Come Home" and "National Velvet" (in which she co-starred with Mickey Rooney).

Mature roles followed; for example, she starred with William Powell and Irene Dunne in the perennial favorite, "LIFE WITH FATHER".

Then, she snapped up roles in "Rhapsody", "Beau Brummel", and "The Last Time I saw Paris".

Over the years, Ms. Taylor honed her craft, won the respect of the industry, and proceeded to nab Oscars for memorable performances in "Butterfield 8" and the film adaptation of Edward Albee's thought-provoking stage drama, "Who's Afraid of Virgina Woolf".

Her personal life was just as glamorous and exciting!

Elizabeth Taylor's first marriage was to the dashing Hotel heir - Nicky Hilton - on May 6 (my birthday) at the tender age of 18.

Although the two were a handsome couple, the union was later annulled on grounds of mental cruelty.

Later, Elizabeth found true love when her paths crossed with film producer, Michael Todd. Although the union appeared to be headed towards domestic bliss, tragedy struck.

Originally, Taylor was to fly with Todd on a promotional tour for - "Around the World in 80 days" - but the young beauty was forced to convalesce at home due to a serious bout of the flu.

Later that night, the plane crashed; sadly, Todd was killed.

In the consoling arms of dear friend, Eddie Fisher, Ms. Taylor stumbled on passion once again.

However, there was one hitch: the famed crooner was married to America's girl-next-door, Debbie Reynolds.

Amid scandalous headlines, and the scorn of the American public, Taylor and Fisher were married.

That short-lived romance was doomed to fail because of a twist of fate no one - not even Ms. Taylor - could anticipate.

When Ms. Taylor was offered the role of Cleopatra, she was not interested in the part, originally.

On a lark, she informed the studio that she would accept the role, if she was paid the whopping sum of $1,000,000.00

Her jaw dropped when the answer came back from the studio: sign on the dotted line, please!

Suddenly, Ms. Taylor had the distinction of being the highest paid actress in Hollywood, the first to crack a salary in the six-figure-range in Tinseltown.

It turned out to be a deal more than she bargained for.

On the set, Elizabeth met and fell in love with gutsy Richard Burton, in spite of the fact each were betrothed to another.

Ms. Taylor was suddenly crowned the dubious title of most notorious seductress in the world!

To complicate matters, the production of Cleopatra was hindered with delays, setbacks, and sluggish, behind-the-scenes dramas.

The most costly film of the modern day ended up a surefire bomb at the box office!

Only in recent years has the studio recovered the losses.

Liz and Dick (as they'd come to be known) went on their merry way - the toast of the International Jet set - sipping on vintage champagne, munching on Beluga caviar, and cruising throughout exotic locales on luxury yachts.

The tempestuous fights were legendary.

But, the vulgar fabulous jewels Burton gifted her with, more eye-popping.

Only Elizabeth could manage to escape the curse of the 33.19-carat Asscher-cut Krupp diamond her insatiable lover gifted her with in 1968.

After they divorced ( twice) Elizabeth floundered - not only in her professional life - but in her personal sphere, as well.

And, the subject of her weight became fodder for comics on the nightclub circuit.

Was the most beautiful woman in the world becoming a national joke?

About the time one wondered what would become of her, Mr. Hudson's crisis galvanized her into action.

Clearly, Ms. Taylor needed a cause, or a direction in life, to put her on the path again and out of harm's way.

Her goal was clear: to find a cure and put an end to discrimination.

In addition, she engaged in a bold-faced compassionate effort to bring solace and comfort to those suffering with the disease, until those ends could be accomplished.

Through her arduous efforts, a spotlight was thrown on the dark corners of the epidemic.

And to her great surprise, supporters sprang from all quarters, to stand by her side in the fight against the killer virus.

Money was not only raised to fund vital research - but also provide hospital care, life-prolonging drugs, and out-patient health-care services for A.I.D.S. patients - who could ill-afford them.

Through her tireless efforts (and those of a handful of others just as dedicated) A.I.D.S. is now a manageable disease in North America.

Unfortunately, this is not so in third-world countries.

In spite of the wealth of the world, that goal has yet to be attained.

Is it within our grasp?

In my humble opinion - there is no reason today for any mother or child in Africa (or elsewhere for that matter) - to suffer, be denied access to emergency medical care, or die before their life expectancy.

Now, the fight must move stridently beyond these shores, to ensure aid is provided in developing nations.

It is my unfailing belief that we are each a part of the whole.

And thus - it stands to good reason - that we are only as healthy as the total of all parts.

Until A.I.D.S is under control worldwide, we remain unhealthy as a whole in the global community.

And so, the fight must continue.

And it can, due to the remarkable works of individuals, like Ms. Taylor.

Ms. Taylor has often been referred to as the last great Hollywood star.

Let's hope she remains in our galaxy for quite some time - shining brightly - so that we may bask in the reflected glow of her dazzling healing light.

And in the process, inspire each and every one of us to take up the cause, to lessen her burden and that of others.

Dept. of Justice...considers racial profiling. U.S. to become fascist country!

Last Fourth of July to be truly free...

When I thumbed through the morning newspaper the other day and came across a report alleging that the Dept. of Justice is entertaining the idea of "racial profiling", I thought I plucked up the "ONION" Newspaper by mistake.

The report noted that the government is tinkering with new guidelines to allow the FBI to investigate Americans without any "evidence" of wrongdoing - allowing the agents instead - to rely solely on a "profile" that would put the spotlight on Muslims, Arabs and other racial and ethic groups.

Currently, agents of Law Enforcement require a specific reason - or proof that a law has been broken - in order to investigate U.S. Citizens and legal residents.

The new policy would permit the FBI to open preliminary terrorism investigations after they have sifted through public records and available intelligence and managed to sketch a profile of traits from the crumbs - that when taken as a whole - may be deemed suspicious and/or worthy of pursuing.

Sounds like the kind of sinister plot Adolf Hitler might hatch up in a bold-faced effort to secure the destiny of his perfect Aryan Race, don't 'ya think?

Heil George W. Bush!

From the get-go - no matter how you fathom it - the wild scheme is un-American.

We have only to recite the inscription on the base of the Statue of Liberty to get our bearings in this regard:

"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Are we to amend that to read,

"Only if your a**ses are Lily white and foreign free?"

Notwithstanding, the whole "idea" flies in the face of the U.S. Constitution.

Does the Bush administration intend to toss the whole concept of "Due process of Law" out the window, too?

In that event, the presumption of innocence would be lost.

Golly, the Founding Fathers of this country must be turning over in their graves!

But, the Government's jaundiced view of things gets worse.

Factors that could make someone the subject of an investigation include travel to regions of the world known for terrorist activity and/or where there is access to weapons or military training.

In addition, a person's race or ethnicity would be a key factor in the decision to open up a clandestine investigation, too.

In fact, every citizen will be suspect under the new guidelines.

Whoa Nellie!

Are they daft?

The long and short of it?

I foresee a "controlled" society where the Nation's peoples - no matter their race, color, or creed - are not free by any stretch of the imagination.

Indeed - if any of the aforementioned guidelines are implemented - the U.S. may end up sliding down a slippery slope and along a dark and trecherous path to become a full-fledged fascist regime.

At that juncture - fear, suspicion, and uncertainty - will be rife around the Nation.

And, Americans will become the most-hated citizens of the world.

You can count on that, believe me.

If anything, I surmise terrorist threats will increase!

I also expect that there will be an uprising within unstable U.S. borders - and that just maybe - there may be an overthrow of the government, too.

One has only to look to the U.S. Constitution to understand why.

"We the People of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

Understandably - once there is a loss of "domestic tranquility" and irreparable harm to the "general welfare" of the people - the citizenry will pay heed to the prophetic third sentence of the remarkable - "Declaration of Independence" - and demand a call to action.

"That to secure these rights [to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness], governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed; that, whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it, and to institute a new government, laying its foundations on such principles, and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness."

As Edward Abbey once said,

"A patriot must always be ready to defend his country from his Government."

Amen!

Golden Nugget Hotel...harasses patrons and discriminates against individuals attired in Calvin Klein fashions!

Fabulous Las Vegas?
Not!

Today I was involved in a shocking and disturbing incident at the Golden Nugget Hotel here in Las Vegas, which has shaken me considerably!

After having a coffee and doughnut on Fremont Street, I stepped into the Golden Nugget to play a few of the slot machines. I selected a one-arm bandit, and began to place bets, as usual. A cocktail waitress sauntered by at one point, offered me a beverage, and wished me good luck with my game.

In a short while, I got up and picked another machine, to try my luck there. In fact, I probably bet on a handful of machines over the course of a half-an-hour.

Suddenly, as I was pondering whether to exit and go uptown - and perhaps take in a show - a woman in a dark suit who identified herself as "security" - blocked my path and demanded to see my identification!

I was in total shock! Had I done something wrong? Was there a case of mistaken identity or something? My thoughts started running wild, I suddenly felt dizzy, and nauseous, and out-of-breath.

When I gathered my emotions, and my head stopped reeling, I asked her, "Why?"

She claimed she observed me walking about the Hotel Casino without betting, scanning the machines, and accused me of looking suspicious!

Well, that was a total lie. In my hand, I was holding a voucher which verified I was betting for at least the last half hour (both time stamped & dated); in addition, the cocktail waitress could also verify the security guard's statements were a total falsehood.

When I noted this, she bristled, then retorted in a nasty, demeaning tone of voice, "Well, I have a right to ask for your ID."

But, the grounds on which she based her decision, had no merit whatsoever!

I felt insulted at this point.

Because there were no sufficient grounds for harassing me, and I was a patron of the Casino for the past few days, it was evident to me that the woman had not only acted out-of-line, but was discriminating against me for some inexplicable reason - and in the process - was seriously violating my rights, as well.

I asked to see her supervisor, who appeared behind me moments later.

When I started to complain, he smiled like a Cheshire cat, and tried to wave me off.

"We can ask to see anyone's ID," he replied smugly.

I pointed out, however, that she based her actions on the grounds that I was wandering about the lobby, that I was not patronizing the Hotel, and appeared to be some kind of bum or street person, with no right to be in their Casino!

Which was totally untrue.

When it was evident he was trying to protect her, and shoo me off, I asked to see the Manager.

He responded quite adamantly, "You're speaking to him."

"You're the Manager of the Hotel," I queried further.

He hesitated, stammered a bit, then blurted out, "No, I'm not".

In response, I said, "I demand to see the manager right away so I can lodge a formal complaint."

And, I proceeded to explain why.

"I am thoroughly insulted by the woman's inappropriate actions, which unnecessarily humiliated me, in front of all the patrons in this section of the Casino."

He trotted off to find the Casino Manager with me in tow. After a guard managed to secure his whereabouts by walkie-talkie, he appeared about fifteen minutes later.

At first, Mr. Realmuto tried to use the same excuse - that the woman was correct in her position - because the Hotel had the right to ask anyone on the premises for ID at any given time at their discretion.

However, when I pointed out that the grounds on which the woman stated her reasons for making the request were totally without merit - and that she had slandered me in front of other hotel guests in the vicinity of the incident in the process - he recanted.

At this juncture, he agreed to have a word with her supervisor, and try to resolve the issue. In addition, he assured me that she would apologize for her outrageous conduct which caused me undue mental and emotional distress in front of a roomful of strangers.

After about fifteen minutes, Mr. Realmuto returned and informed me that he had spoken with her supervisor, that she would apologize - and that if she did not - he'd put her on suspension.

As he walked off, he noted that matter was now in the hands of her supervisor.

Meanwhile, out of the corner of my eye, I spied the man in question with another security guard about fifteen feet away, laughing at me, and making jokes about the incident. After the Casino Manager was out of sight, the supervisor walked over and informed me the woman refused to apologize - but added - that he would do so on her behalf.

I pointed out that Mr. Realmuto assured me that if she did not make amends herself, that she would be suspended. In response, he stared at me coldly for a moment, then panicked.

Our talks went downhill after that.

When I informed the man (who would not provide his name) that I wanted to file a formal complaint, he arranged for the Director of Security to bring a standard form down to fill out; however, when the gentleman arrived, he argued with the supervisor most strenuously against providing it. In fact, he was downright reticent about handing over the paperwork.

In retrospect, it would appear that he did not want any record of the incident, in spite of the fact there was a roomful of witnesses standing on the sidelines, watching the drama unfold with great intensity.

I noted my intention to file a complaint with the Executive Management of the Hotel and the owners.

At this juncture, I also noted that Mr. Realmuto let it slip that the security woman who harassed me, may have acted the way she did because I was dressed in the manner I was - in a plaid shirt and black jeans.

So, I asked the supervisor - point-blank - to state for the record if the Golden Nugget discriminated against patrons based on casual attire.

He replied with a stunned look, "...it depends on the circumstance."

Well now, is that not discrimination in its truest form?

It should be noted that I was wearing Calvin Klein designer clothes, which were clean and pressed, and relatively new. Are Mr. Klein's clothes not acceptable at the Golden Nugget Hotel?

It should be noted that I was also carrying a flap jacket, so I have to wonder if the woman thought I was in the Military; in that event, does the Golden Nugget discriminate against individuals they suspect to be members of the Armed Forces?

Are the young men who fight for this country, and put themselves at risk and in harm's ways - to ensure our basic rights and freedoms are secure - not welcome at the Golden Nugget either?

Obviously, something is clearly amiss at the Golden Nugget!

The actions of the security staff were wild and reckless, discriminatory in nature, and amounted to harassment. Throughout the shocking, disturbing incident, my rights were violated in the process.

So, I intend to lodge a formal complaint with the Hotel Executive Management, and the owners of the Golden Nugget.

In addition, I shall seek appropriate legal counsel to bring litigation forward - if necessary - to deter such outrageous, heinous, wrongful conduct in the future.

In the interim, I urge all tourists, and visitors to the Las Vegas resort area, to boycott the Golden Nugget - or at least - steer clear of patronage.

After all, this could happen to any one of you.

According to employees I spoke to after the incident, this is the kind of typical, disturbing conduct, that is ongoing at the Golden Nugget Hotel in Las Vegas.

I say, steer clear of this establshment like the plague.

Amen!
