John F. Kennedy...assassination! Where were you?

They say most people recall where they were the moment they heard the news about the assassination of John F. Kennedy.

Personally, I was in the midst of a 6th grade class in Scarborough (Ontario/Canada) when our teacher was suddenly summoned to the Principal’s office out-of-the-blue that frosty November morn.

Judging by the startled look that erupted across her face - as she quietly read a note handed off from a somber page who bit his lip as he stood at attention at her desk - something mighty serious was up.

After directing the students to carry on with a prepared assignment, the normally-unflappable teach dashed out the door, without glancing back.

A short time later, she returned calm and composed, as she cleared her throat to make an announcement.

“President John F. Kennedy has been shot,” she managed to utter up, just as a wave of emotion swept over her slightly-built frame.

At this point, the teacher instructed us to bow our heads, as she recited a prayer for the slain politician.

Actually, that fateful day ended up being a dramatic one for me on my own home front, so-to-speak.

Earlier that morning - I was heading off to the schoolyard with my head in the clouds (thinking my thoughts as usual) - when a bully dashed up out-of-nowhere and kicked me harshly in the butt with a pointed steel-tipped shoe.

Stung by the blow - both physically and emotionally - I veered off the beaten-path to lick my wounds.

As I idly strolled down the train tracks I reflected on my short topsy-turvy life to date.

Because I was a popular kid in the neighborhood - and the class clown (who was liked by most everyone and popular in a romantic-sense with the girls) - the unwarranted attack was difficult to fathom.

As I kicked a few pebbles this way ‘n that, I happened to glance up to get my bearings, when I suddenly caught sight of my foster mother fuming at the wheel of her compact auto about a hundred feet or so away.

One of the other charges of the Children’s Aid Society must have sprinted back to the big old rambling house on Eglinton Street to tattle about the incident and report on my subsequent whereabouts.

At the curb, I was quickly interrogated through an open window on the passenger side of the vehicle, before I was coaxed inside.

Shortly after I was dropped off at school, and firmly ensconced in my class, I was called down to the principal’s office where I immediately caught sight of my attacker.

The young woman - who physically lashed out at me earlier so cruelly at the side of the road without any provocation - awkwardly arose from a cold hard bench in the hallway and apologized for kicking me like a common dog.

Even still, I was determined to high-tail it out of there.

For some inexplicable reason, I hatched up a plan to hop on my bike after school, and run away to Oshawa to visit Gramma and Poppa.

Though the forty-mile seat-of-the-pants road-trip was a daunting one - especially when you consider that the blinding glare of the headlights was constantly smacking me in the face - I managed to cruise silently into the quiet driveway on Kilmaurs Avenue just around midnight.

Suddenly, I was overcome with panic, as I stumbled toward the front door.

What if the retired couple weren’t overjoyed to see me?

Just as I pushed the doorbell, a panic attack numbed me up and down, and I fell against the side of the wall out of plain view.

I was beside myself with grief as my heart beat faster and faster.

Meanwhile, the interior of the quaint little bungalow remained silent and dark.

Just as I started to head towards the backyard, the front door flew open, and the lawn was bathed in bright light.

“Is that you?” Gramma cried out in a voice that crackled with emotion.

“Yes,” I half-whispered, as my feet just about gave away beneath me.

Within minutes, Gramma was hugging me, and chiding me for my foolishness.

I felt smothered with love!

“You scared the wits out of me. I thought you were a strange little man lurking around the front door up to no good,“ she excitedly explained.

I was hustled inside, fed a nourishing snack, and tucked into a warm cozy bed.

Within minutes, I was fast asleep, without a care in the world.

Then, the following morning at breakfast, the shocking events of the day before  unfolded on a portable TV nearby.

The disturbing footage of the motorcade - and the subsequent assassination of President Kennedy - splashed across the tiny screen in all its horrific gory detail.

The image of Jackie Kennedy - in her pink dress and matching pill-box hat splattered with blood - touched me deeply and has remained deeply etched in the inner recesses of my mind to this day.

Talk about the ironies of life!

Years later, in an intriguing twist of fate, I ended up playing a secret service agent in a moment-by-moment reenactment of the Kennedy assassination for an episode of  "Twilight Zone" (CBS).

The plot twist was an intriguing one in which a scientist invents uncovers a way to go back in time to prevent the murder of JFK.

Unfortunately, it never occurred to the well-meaning character, that altering a moment in time may end up triggering a series of  unexpected irreversible events far worse than ever those previously imagined.

In my own instant case, the action I took ended up sending me head-long down a new path.

On occasion, a call to action, is necessary to effect important change in one’s life.

Marilyn Monroe...rare photo surfaces! John F. Kennedy intrigues...

Rare publicity still of Marilyn & JFK intriguing!

Marilyn Monroe is still making waves long after her mysterious death a few decades ago.

For example, a rare photograph has just been released on what would have been the “Some like it Hot” star’s 84th birthday.

Is the legendary siren crying out from the grave?

The curious publicity still was taken at a historic political event on a novel occasion when Marilyn was invited to perform her rendition of  “Happy Birthday” to President John F. Kennedy and a rapt audience.

A raft of photographs were confiscated by the secret service that festive night, but the rare one in question, slipped through the cracks for some inexplicable reason.

Is it possible that an unknown person (or persons) manipulated events behind-the-scenes because of the revealing subliminal message being transmitted?

In the faded still, Marilyn is facing camera essentially, but for some intriquing reason, the President’s back is turned toward camera.

Was Jack in the throes of arranging a clandestine meeting with Marilyn?

Did he turn away when he saw the cameraman approach to prevent an incriminating still from harming his relationship with Jackie Kennedy or hurting his reputation in social and political circles?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Jacqueline Kennedy...Steven Spielberg pitching script! Jackie O's dark days...

The celebrated socialite - and former wife of one of the most-respected Presidents in U.S. History - is to be the subject of a screen biopic if Steven Spielberg has any say in it.

Spielberg, arguably one of the top power-brokers in Hollywood today, has jumped on board the project in the capacity of Producer.

The screenplay - written by Noah Oppenheim (a former producer on the "Today" show) - intends to focus an insightful lens on Jackie O's last dark days at the White House in the aftermath of her husband's assassination in Dallas, Texas.

The twist?

Oppenheimer's material is allegedly written from the point of view of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

A toughie, when you consider that most of the principals in the modern-day tragedy - Jackie Kennedy, son John F. Kennedy Jr., Robert F. Kennedy - even Senator Edward Kennedy (who passed away to spirit in recent months) - are no longer with us in the actual flesh.

Does Oppenheimer intend to rely on the recollections of daughter Caroline Kennedy?

Or, does he have a parcel of heretofore unpublished documents (and/or private letters) to draw on to breath some new life into the highly-scrutinized age-old saga?

And, now that the issue has been raised, I am inclined to wonder - too - if the project has received a blessing from the Kennedy clan (what's left of 'em).

Inquiring minds want to know!

Curiously, years ago, I was hired to play a Secret Service Agent on the TV Show - The Twilight  Zone (CBS) - for an episode on time travel which featured a re-enactment of the Kennedy assassination in Dallas.

With startling detail, the producers recreated the infamous limo scene - where Jackie jumped out of her seat in the open motorcade and onto the rear trunk - shortly after John F. Kennedy was shot.

I was in that scene, in addition to others at a mansion that doubled as the White House, which focused on events triggered by the shocking tragedy.

I wonder, will Spielberg also push for a flash-back of that black day in American history?

If so, maybe I should dust off my dark suit, and keep my eye out for audition calls!

Caroline Kennedy...decision to pursue Senate Seat elicits quote of day!

Caroline Kennedy supported Obama in his campaign for President

Out-of-the-blue, Caroline Kennedy confided to a friend recently, her intention to pursue the Senate Seat being vacated by Hillary Clinton.

Caroline Kennedy is the daughter of former charismatic U.S. President, John F. Kennedy, and celebrated socialite and Art Patron, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

After wrestling with the idea for a few days, sources reported that the normally camera-shy Kennedy, made up her mind to ask the Governor - David A. Paterson (New York) - to consider her for the post.

At the time of the announcement, the Governor could not be reached for comment because he is currently on a jaunt to Utica.

In spite of this, apparently Ms. Kennedy has been putting in personal phone calls to potential supporters in the political arena, to inform them of her intentions.

Her uncle, Robert F. Kennedy, once held that office.

A handful of agitated Democrats are allegedly questioning her credentials from the get-go.

The turn of events has managed to rustle up the quote of the day in my estimation.

When U.S. Representative Gary Ackerman (a Queens Democrat) was asked what - if any - were Ms. Kennedy's qualifications to hold the post, he allegedly quipped that he didn't really know except for one thing.

"She has name recognition, but so does J. Lo."

Ouch!

Osama bin Laden...twists & distorts truth!

With the anniversary of the 9/11 attack on New York City just around the corner, Osam bin Laden has chosen the occasion to release a twenty-six minute video to remind the American people he's still a threat to be reckoned with...

His ramblings are not only misguided, but convoluted.

For example, in one segment he implies that U.S. Corporations assassinated President John F. Kennedy because he was opposed to the Vietnam War which had become immensely profitable to them.

More believable theories have been offered up elsewhere - in the Aristotle Onassis biography, for example.

Is he losing his grasp?

Osama also argues in this piece, titled "The Solution", that multinationals have put mankind in danger from global warming.

Frankly, it appears that he's taking a cue from former VP Al Gore, and Leonardo DiCaprio, and their astute, insightful observations in "An Inconvenient Truth" and the "11th Hour", respectively.

The head honcho of the outlaw society offered up some intriguing ideas about our system of Government, too.

"It has been clear to you and the entire world the impotence of the Democratic System and how it plays with the interests of the peoples and their blood by sacrificing soldiers and populations to achieve interests of the major corporations."

What an insane analysis of Democracy!

Read between the lines and it becomes obvious he's been closely scrutinizing a handful of American-produced documentaries - those of Michael Moore - in particular.

Basically, he's plucked up other people's ideas, and offered them up as his own, in a bold-faced effort to convince Citizens of the United States he's in their corner fighting all the ills of society they, too, are rising up against in America.

He's clever, but twisted.

Obviously, he's searching for novel ways to absolve himself of his heinous crimes against humanity.

The fact remains...his band of merry terrorists kill innocent people, intentionally.

His own people's blood is also spilled blindly for a cause that is not only self-serving, but ludicrous in nature.

Osama bin Laden is nothing more than a snake-oil salesman, using slight of hand, in a world of smoke-and-mirrors, to sell a perverted brand of terrorism...

If he wants the ugly side of man to come to its senses, then he should be the first in line to the bargaining table to put an end to the madness.

Violence, after all, only begets violence.

As Mahatma Gandhi once said,

"Be the change you want to see in the world"...

Family Jewels...CIA releases sensitive docs!

The CIA at long last declassified reams of pages of top-secret records stewing in storage for the past couple of decades which precisely detail some of the worst abuses in American History.

The explosive documents focus with razor-sharp attention on controversial issues such as overseas assassination attempts, domestic and foreign spying, and kidnappings approved by top-level officials.

In short, a whole can of worms!

CIA Director Michael V. Hayden's confession to the press that the documents are unflattering is somewhat of an understatement.

The prolific records include accounts of break-ins, thefts, illegal wiretaps, surveillance of journalists critical of the government, and notes on a series of "unwitting tests", including the use of lethal drugs on U.S. Citizens.

Kissinger warned in the past that if the incriminating documents were released, "that blood would flow".

After all, high-level dossiers include detailed accounts of Robert Kennedy's alleged personal management of an assassination attempt on Cuban President, Fidel Castro.

Did they knock off John Kennedy, first?

Most of the major operations uncovered - albeit unwillingly - were revealed in varying detail during congressional hearings that later led to widespread intelligence reforms and increased oversight protection.

The reports, which have come to be known as the "Family Jewels", would make for an intriguing potboiler.

Anyone up to the task of penning the script?

Or do you value your life too dearly to embark on such a dangerous path?
