Vice President Joe Biden...to snooze in Las Vegas! Paris Hotel hosts Teamster Union's Convention!

Though the White House has been a little vague about the specific details of the Vice President's stop-over in Las Vegas it's official.

President Obama's political sidekick is slated to deliver a speech on Friday July 1st at the Teamster Union's 28th International Convention at the Paris Hotel in the exotic desert oasis.

Unless the VP dozes off, the much-anticipated appearance is expected to go off without a hitch at approximately 11:15 a.m. at the convention center inside the trendy Hotel premises.

Do you suppose Mr. Biden will dare broach iffy issues such as the escalating deficit or illegal workers (and a backdoor Amnesty plan) if quizzed by the aggressive media?

Sarah Palin..."Blind Allegiance" expose! Queen of Tea Party potboiler!

Between the scandal sheets!

Poor Sarah Palin!

The former John McCain running mate - who ran against Obama's ticket in the last Presidential race - was pretty adept at keeping her innermost scandalous secrets in the closet.

And, with a slick posse of handlers on hand along the campaign trail daily, it was pretty much a snap for the charismatic upstart to prevent damaging gossip from floating out onto the political terrain and spewing over the vicious blogosphere where nasty pundits were laying in wait hungry for the the dirt.

Notwithstanding, staunch strident supporters were always at-the-ready - quick-as-a-wink- to leap into action and extinguish fires when they flared up now and then.

But, with a tell-all expose about to be published (and released) on May 24th, it appears that Sarah's fifteen glorious minutes in the sun are about to be eclipsed by the dark musings of Frank Bailey and a pack of wolves howling at the moon.

Go, figure!

Bailey is a former aide, who lived it up with Palin, so he could write it all down for posterity.

Now, his detailed chilling side of things is about to be released under the auspices of "Howard Books".

Due out on May 24th, the potboiler titled - "Blind Allegiance" - is expected to toss a searing spotlight on the Queen of the Tea Party circuit - and ultimately - knock the folksey Alaskan flat on her Republican ass.

Curiously, Ken Morris (a published author) and a high-profile blogger (Jeannie Devon) collaborated with Bailey on the much-anticipated page-turner.

Not surprising, eh?

When there are skeletons in the closet, a ghost whisperer or two, to shake out the cobwebs of intrigue!

Just betch, it's on the bestseller list, first week out on the shelves!

President Barack Obama...who does he remind you of?

Who could Barack double for?

Today, one of the trendy tabloid shows was running some footage of Barack Obama - gleaned from his recent appearance on "The View" (which they had skillfully interspersed with a couple of news clips) - when it suddenly hit me like a bolt of lightning!

When all of the hand mannerisms and facial expressions (the posturing, too) seemingly melded together to conjure up one visual image of the President - in the fresh setting there before my eyes - it suddenly dawned on me.

Obama reminded me of an actor from a major feature film.

If I ran the title of the movie by you, could you figure out who it is?

"Being there"

Ring any bells?

Uh-huh!

I am referring to Peter Sellers!

Curiously, there are some parrallels between the film - directed by legendary Hal Ashby - and a day-in-the-life of the President.

In the film, which co-stars Shirley MacLean, a commoner (Sellers) is mistaken for a brilliant philosopher and is invited to the White House to share his thoughts on economic growth and the future of the country.

In a real life scenario, a handful of American voters are hopeful that their candidate for the next term of Presidency - who touts a new "Order of the Day" - is the new Messiah.

Who stars in this transparent role?

President Barack Obama, of course!

President Obama..speaks at Aria in Vegas today! Lodges @ Caesar's Palace...

Prez will speak at Aria!

The theme of the speech?

President Obama will touch down in Vegas with a bit of controversy nipping at his heels.

For starters, the Governor will not be greeting the Commander-in-Chief when he alights onto the tarmac late this afternoon.

Although some have tittered that the State's Chief Honcho is snubbing the President because he is still pi**ed over remarks Obama uttered up last year that resulted in a mammoth loss of business to the desert Oasis's Convention business - the Governor's handlers swear up-and-down that scheduling conflicts are the reason for the failure to bow down.
Also, some are grumbling that during a stellar  week of  Tourism - operators of aerial sight-seeing tours conducted by helicopter - may lose up to a half-a-million dollars in revenue over the next twenty-four hours because the flights have been restricted above Las Vegas pending the arrival and departure of the President's carrier.

Ouch!

The President is in town to rally and raise funds for Harry Reid.

In addition, Barack Obama is scheduled to give a prepared speech at Aria around the dinner hour.

But, get this!

Instead of hunkering down at CityCenter's crown jewel, the President has elected to takelodging a hop-and-a-skip away at Caesar's Palace.

Maybe the administration is taking a cue from the Queen (Elizabeth II, silly!) and being budget-minded this trip?

Or, perhaps Caesar's is more suitable digs for an "Emperor" of Obama's ilk?

Just maybe, he's hopped up over the idea of taking in a glitzy Vegas show!

Sarah Palin...outrage over neighbour's spying prompts fence building...

Tough broad fights back!

Sarah Palin is on the warpath!

A relative calm prevailed over the woodsy community - where she presides in Alaska - until an unexpected stranger moved in to the cottage next door.

When the identity of the new tenant was revealed, Ms. Palin was inclined to spring into attack mode.

As it turns out, the mysterious tenant was none other than author Joe McGinniss who is currently penning an unauthorized biography on the former VP hopeful, Sarah Palin,

"He's invading my privacy," charged Palin, after capturing Mr. McGinnis on film gazing in the direction of her home.

Sarah hinted at foul play on her facebook page while  friends, fans, and supporters lent a sympathetic ear.

Mr. McGinniss's publisher assured members of the press that his client would be respectful of Ms. Palin's privacy.

When asked, a handful of the locals labeled McGinniss's behavior "creepy",

In response to the "intrusion", Palin's husband opted to go his own way to resolve the problem.

Early this morning, neighbours were greeted with a fence along the edge of the property, which has essentially blocked McGinniss's ability to "peep" in the future.

One reporter, anxious to hear the author's side of things, strolled up and knocked on the writer's door.

Although McGinniss was inclined to come to the door, he threatened in no uncertain terms that if the employess of the TV station didn't get off the property, he'd sick the local police on them.

The book is titled - "The Year of Living Dangerously - " which I find ironic since it appears to be starting out that way.

Isn't there an ordinance that restricts the height of fences in residential areas in Alaska?

There's more to the story! News @ 11...

In recent days - amidst a flurry of highly-charged news reports - one truism became crystal clear.

There's usually more to the story!

For this reason, viewers in TV land - and armchair critics in general - might be wise to hold judgment for a moment before succumbing to a knee-jerk reaction and going off-the-handle when the raw news splashes across the old boob tube.

In fact, I have a piece of advice, that may be worth listening to.

When the jolting breaking news interrupts regular programming - take a deep breath, fathom what just washed over you, reflect a little, collect your thoughts, then process and digest the data.

In particular, I am referring to the exhausting - at times hysterical coverage - on the Arizona State Law regarding Immigration Reform, the controversy over ethnics classes in public schools (funded by tax dollars), and the oil spill tragedy that has numbed the Nation.

The jolting newsbites have been non-stop, accusing, relentless, informative, wild, insightful - and at times - even thought-provoking.

But, it  did not escape my attention - that from one report to the next - the focus often tends to shift with a little more probing, intensive investigative journalism, and a more thorough review of the facts passing through what is usually a glass-darkly initially.

There is not only more to the story, but two sides to it, as well.

I compare all the media hoopla to a court of Law.

Wait for the evidence to be presented, reviewed, and substantiated before rushing to judgment.

Only fools rush in, after all!

President Obama...State of Union speech! Hints at what's on agenda...

Today, I received an e-mail communication fromthe Senior Advisor to President Obama outlining the highlights of the State of the Union speech slated for broadcast tomorrow night (January 27th).

According to Valerie Jarrett, the President will stand before a joint session of Congress and summarily outline "where we are" and "where we're going to be" as a Nation.

In preparation for the annual address, Mr. Obama apparently issued a directive to his Cabinet to prepare a report for the American people, in advance of the landmark political event.

Jarrett underscored in her communication that there will be short videos - which focus on progress made in the first year of  Barack Obama's presidency - in addition to a report back from the Cabinet on what lies ahead for their departments and agencies to keep America moving forward.

For example, Secretary Sebelius will talk about the Department of Health and Human Services' successes helping to prevent the spread of the H1N1 virus.

Also, Chu - Department of Energy Secretary -will highlight the thousands of green jobs they’ve created using Recovery Act dollars.

Secretary Clinton intends to detail the Department of State’s efforts to restore global partnerships.

State of the Union address:

http://www.whitehouse.gov/2010-Cabinet-Reports/?e=27&ref=image

At this juncture, the President's "right-hand", went on to note that when President Obama took office a year ago the country faced an array of historic challenges such as an economy in freefall, job losses averaging almost 700,000 a month, a middle class under assault, two wars and badly frayed global alliances.

Jarett asserts that - "when faced with these unparalleled challenges" - the President and his Cabinet got to work by taking a few bold steps to rescue the country from a possible second Great Depression, rebuild the economy for the long-term (so businesses can thrive, the middle class can grow, and all our families can be more secure) and to restore America’s leadership in the world as the U.S.  wrestles with the global challenges of the 21st Century.

San Francisco...Iran hijab protest! Provocative exhibition @ Adobe bookstore...

A provocative exhibit on display in the front window of the poplular Adobe Bookstore in San Francisco is turning heads!

On a television screen, the faces of male protesters in Iran are featured prominently in the traditional hijab (scarf), as they essentially thumb their noses at officials in their homeland in what amounts to a unique political statement.

The movement began as an online backlash after the arrest of one anti-government protester by the name of Majid Tavakoli.

The day after his arrest, an Iranian news agency published a picture of Tavakoli dressed in a chador, a black head-to-toe garment worn by Iranian women.

The government claimed the man had been caught wearing the garment in an attempt to hide himself and avoid arrest, but opposition leaders insisted that the photo published by the semi-official Fars news agency had been manipulated.

Within hours of the Fars report, men - both inside and outside Iran - began posting pictures of themselves online at a politically-oriented website wearing head coverings that are mandated for women in the Islamic republic.

Hamid Dabashi, a Professor of Iranian studies at New York's Columbia University, stridently noted to the press last month that the action was an attempt to draw attention to the government's tactic to "humiliate, intimidate or stifle political momements" inside the country.

"They (Iranian government officials) used a standard cliche to try to humiliate men, as if being a woman were something bad, and thousands of Iranians respond by posting these pictures, showing there is absolutely nothing wrong with women or veiling," Dabashi huffed to all within earshot.

Adding to the controversy was the Fars agency's decision to juxtapose the photos of Tavakoli alongside a decades-old photo of the first president of the Islamic republic, Abolhassan Banisadr.

Years ago, Iranian officials accused Banisadr of using women's clothes to try to escape arrest.

The Fars report gave no explanation for publishing Banisadr's photo alongside Tavakoli's and the two men have no other apparent links.

According to CNN, a blog that focuses on religion and politics in the Muslim world - Spittoon.org - interpreted the juxtaposition as being an attempt by the authorities to humiliate Tavakoli, using an old practice by the government to prove to the public that the opposition leaders are 'less than men,' who lacked  courage and bravery.

One commentator on that site wrote:

"It is ironic how [the] head scarf, which was traditionally seen as a symbol of women's oppression ... is now being used by men to show membership in a liberation movement."

Hijab refers to religiously sanctioned dress for men and women in Islam.

Tavakoli remains in custody of Iranian security forces and it is not known what he thinks about becoming associated with this particular protest tactic.

He was arrested after a protest which incensed Iranian Government officials.

Shortly after he was hauled away, a video of a speech was posted on YouTube, in which he made an urgent plea.

"Stand up against dictatorship and scream all you can against dictatorship. We don't accept a dictatorship any more."

If you're in the neighborhood, stop by the Adobe Bookstore to catch the thought-provoking exhibit.

Below, I have posted a few links featuring HD Video I captured from my perch on the street.

Barack Obama...heckled by Congressman during Healthcare speech. Insurance for Illegal immigrants? Not...

Barack is no Martin Luther King Junior, Sir!

In the wake of a rude outburst by a Congressman during Barack Obama's much-anticipated speech to the Nation last night on the Healthcare issue - today, in the cold light of day - Republicans and Democrats alike are denouncing the impromptu rebellion as an "extraordinary breach of decorum".

In the midst of asserting to critics that under his intended plan, insurance would not be available to illegal immigrants, the President was cut-short by Representative Joe Wilson who taunted from the bleachers below:

"You lie!"

For Obama-haters, it was a precious moment.

Caught off-guard - and in the obvious throes of mixed emotions - the President had no other recourse but to react with a hilarious "classic" double-take.

Nope, it wasn't a "say what?" moment, at all.

Imagine that, Barack Obama - "old diarrhea mouth" - at a loss for words!

Not a problem for Joe Biden, though, who issued a statement on the heels of the controversy.

"I was embarrassed for the chamber and a Congress I love," Vice President Joe Biden said Thursday on ABC's "Good Morning America."

"It demeaned the institution."

Meanwhile, House Minority Whip (Eric Cantor R-Va)  was quick to stress that the rude interruption was inappropriate and did not reflect the sentiments of the party.

"Obviously, the President of the United States is always welcome on Capitol Hill. He deserves respect and decorum."

Rep. Joe Wilson contacted the White House in a bold-faced effort to apologize to the President personally.

When Obama failed to take the call (for reasons undetermined at press time) Wilson managed to get a word or two in edgewise with the White House Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanue.

According to sources, he apologized.

When asked about the mea culpa, Biden said Thursday, that he hadn't spoken with Obama

"Knowing the president, I'm sure he accepted the apology."

The Republican rebel released the following terse statement to the media.

"This evening I let my emotions get the best of me."

"While I disagree with the president's statement, my comments were inappropriate and regrettable. I extend sincere apologies to the president for this lack of civility."

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a California Democrat, appeared to be the only sensible politician with her wits about her in the aftermath

"It's time for us to talk about health care, not Mr. Wilson," she quipped to anyone within earshot.

On a nightly news show, an English pundit from across the pond - not only laughed about the incident - but shook her head over the way politicians, the media, and Joe Public alike reacted to the alleged controversy.

"They're always heckling the Prime Minister in England," she giggled.

Hear! Hear!

Well, at least Wilson didn't toss a shoe!

The ultimate insult, eh?

Barack Obama...letter from the President! Tune in tonight: Health Care Insurance for Americans...

From: President Barack Obama
Subject: Tune in
To: julian@julianayrs.com
Date: Wednesday, July 22, 2009, 12:48 PM

Dear Friend,

As you read this, we are closer than ever to passing comprehensive health insurance reform that benefits American families and small businesses. Despite all the back and forth in the news right now, it is important to understand just how far we've come in this challenging process.

That's why I'm holding a press conference tonight at 8pm ET, and writing to let everyone know where we are, what's ahead, and why health insurance reform is so important.

Let me be clear: although Congress is still debating parts of the legislation we have achieved critical consensus on several key areas:

If you already have health insurance: reform will provide you with more security and stability. It will limit your own out of pocket costs and prevent your insurance company from dropping your coverage if you get too sick. You'll also have affordable insurance options if you lose or change your job. And it will cover preventive care like check-ups and mammograms that save lives and money.

If you don't have health insurance: you will finally have guaranteed access to quality, affordable health care, and you can choose the plan that best suits your family's needs. And no insurance company will be allowed to deny you coverage because of a pre-existing medical condition.

Now, I realize that the last few miles of any race are the hardest to run, but we can't stop now. There's no dispute about it: we cannot control our long-term fiscal health as a nation without health insurance reform. American families and small businesses understand that the health insurance status quo is taking away those things that they value most about health care. The stability and security that comes with knowing that you can get the treatment you need, when you need it. Without reform, we are consigning our children to a future of skyrocketing premiums and crushing deficits.

We have to seize this opportunity and pass health insurance reform this year. You can help by forwarding this email to your family and friends and letting them know what's at stake in this debate.

Thank you,
Barack Obama

P.S.

Tune in to Press Conference on Health Insurance reform @ 8 pm ET

Barack Obama...Mom jeans sissy up ball park! Butch it up, Mr. Prez...

When Barack Obama scrambled on the field this past week in his Mom jeans to pitch the first ball of the game, a few viewers at home were probably chuckling.

In fact, I think I overheard one baseball fan yell at the screen:

Butch it up, you pansy!

Yup - "one size fits all" - tends to separate the men from the boys.

A few reporters on the sidelines were no doubting reminiscing about a former U.S. President who was truly a "man's man".

The dialogue went something like this in the dugout.

"I knew John F. Kennedy. He's no JFK!"

I surmise that Barack either slipped on a pair of Michelle's jeans by mistake in an early-morning fog - or just maybe - his valet forgot to pick up his Calvin's from the cleaners the night before.

No use airing dirty laundry in public now.

Barack should have given the momentous appearance a little more thought, though.

After all, this American pastime tends to be one of the butchest sports here and abroad.

The way a player's pants hug the butt - and accent the fly-line at the crotch - speaks volumes about the studliness of the man.
'Ya know?

Barack's nambie-pambie dash onto the mound was bit - nellie - wouldn't you say?

I have a suggestion for the Prez in the event he wants to butch up his act a tad.

In Hollywood, actors are enrolling in classes specifically geared toward developing a macho persona for any fella a bit too light in the heels when it comes to scoring in the leading man arena.
Maybe the Democrat's handlers could arrange for a workshop or two?

After all - in many respects politics is a lot like acting - isn't it?

Does the name Ronald Reagan ring a bell?

Macho stance with hint of a bulge piquing sexual curiosity preferable!

Barack Obama...double-talk with Anderson Cooper signals slick Barry typical politician!

A large number of Americans tuned in the other night to 360 on CNN to catch the one-on-one historical interview Anderson Cooper conducted with the Prez on his jaunt overseas to Ghana.

On that auspicious occasion, many voters may have caught Barack Obama transform into a bona fide politician right before their eyes, as Cooper tried to pin the Commander-in-Chief down on key issues.

But, it proved to be a slippery task, even for the political-savvy news reporter!

For example, when Cooper (a gay man) queried (no pun intended) Obama about the "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy in the Military - and his subsequent promise to end that antiquated stance on homosexuality in the ranks - Barack responded in true political style.

"Because the policy was enacted into law," Obama hedged, "I can't very well ask the Military not to enforce it."

At this juncture, the camera panned to a blank stare on Anderson's face.

Then, there was a deafening silence for a moment or two.

With a few carefully chosen words Barack managed to pick up the slack.

"Of course, I intend to take some action on that issue later on," he noted for the record or in words to that effect.

Ironically, his response was just as "on the fence" as the policy itself.

Yup.

Just like a true politician, Barack is now trying to appease both sides.

Consequently, the popular Prez is forced to talk out both sides of his mouth.

In the final analysis, Barack has blossomed into a full-fledged corrupt politician!

In fact, his wishy-washy maneuverings have started to smack a lot like those of slick Willy before him.

Slick Barry?

Has a nice ring to it, doesn't it?

Next, I expect the candidate for change will be saying he's never inhaled.

'Til now - Obama has managed to keep his di** in his pants - though.

With those of the female persuasion, at least.

Meanwhile, another issue rears its ugly - um - head!

How long is the Prez going to refuse to respond to the gay rumors running rampant on the blogosphere?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Just ask the "Globe".

Los Angeles...too many foreigners? Angry homeless man expresses his angst...

The other day - a male (white mid-40's) - approached me for spare change on the street in upscale West Los Angeles.

Suddenly, without warning, he started into an angry rant.

"There are too many foreigners in Los Angeles," he griped with a bitter tone in his voice.

"The Latino immigrants are hogging all the work."

I surmised at this juncture, that a large percentage of the jobs he was referring to, were probably menial task low-paying posts of not much interest to educated white folks with specialized work skills.

"I'd take one of those jobs. I'm homeless and I need the cash."

"They hate us.," he barked out angrily.

"Why is that?"

I argued that it was probably because - as Paris Hilton would say - "wrinkly old white dudes " - have been in control of the power structure in the United States for the past couple of centuries.

"It's natural for them to resent us," I guess.

When I reflected on the plight of this homeless man later, I recalled that in my travels around the country the past year or so, there appeared to be a growing number of white males in the 40-50 age range - in Las Vegas, San Francisco, and major cities back East - out-of-work and on the streets.

How was it that the fortunes of these men had so tragically reversed?

Was it due to the introduction of computers (and subsequent automation) , the prevailing trend towards cheap non-union labor, or the influx of a wave of immigrants descending on these shores hungry for work at any cost?

No one seems to care.

The media - indeed, political activists and the government, too - have been inclined to put the big focus these days on immigrants and their rights and/or issues pertaining to racism because Blacks allege they have been victims of discrimination.

No wonder, there is a growing outcry from disgruntled Anglo-Saxons, who swear they are being short-changed, too.

I am reminded of the Ron Paul movement during the election.

Although Paul's followers were somewhat extremist in their views about immigrants - and trends that threatened foundations this great Nation were built on - some of their idealogies (and outspoken alarmist views) have not fallen on deaf ears.

A less strident (more realistic) posse of of White Americans have taken a cue and are now standing up and demanding to be heard.

"The Latinos and the Blacks are the ones that are racist."

So, with an eye to the future, grass roots oganizations are springing up in a bold-faced effort to protect the interests of White Americans around the country - with the ultimate aim of holding on to their stake in the American dream - too.

Amen!

Barack Obama...touches down in my "homeland". Anti-American sentiment once real...

Barack Obama flew into Ottawa to meet with the Prime Minister - and according to news reports - was given a hearty welcome by a posse of high-spirited Canucks!

One reveller manipulated the wording on a tag from a well-known Beer Commercial popular above the border to get a message across.

"Yes we CANada!"

By the way, our Canadian ale packs a bigger wallop than those pi**y American brands.

Hope you chug-a-lugged one, Barack!

A local bakery one-upped, though, by serving commemorative "Obama Tails" - a version of the beaver-tail fried-dough pastry - topped with a maple-syrup flavored frosting in the shape of an Obama "O".

There was time when my fellow countrymen may have shaken their fists - or given the "finger" to a U.S. President - on the heels of which they may have angrily shouted:

"Yankee Go Home!"

Having been raised in the great white north - in the suburbs of Toronto - I have always been keenly aware of the anti-American sentiments that run deep in the Canadian psyche.

Years ago, Canadians felt that the U.S. was gobbling up the country.

In fact, I recall a joke from my youth, that said it all:

"America drinks Canada Dry."

Many Canadians didn't much like living in the shadow of a major super power, either.

On occasion, when disputes arose over fishing territory, the price of lumber, or an outbreak of mad cow disease on a wild outreach at a cattle farm in Calgary, it was fists across than border.

When I was a kid, I recall that adults were particularly put off - by what they perceived - as a vulgar respect for the almighty dollar in America.

Why, the U.S. mint even etched a handful of sacred symbols on the greenback - an all-seeing eye in a pyramid, the awesome image of an eagle, even mystical symbols - then crowned 'em with an uplifting spiritual message.

In God We Trust."

Even so, Canadians were ever wary of their neighbors to the south.

At one point, the Canadian Government became troubled by the fact that the airwaves over Canadian space, were being dominated by broadcasts of trite sitcoms and fluffy action-adventure dramas from below the border.

To shore up the Canadian identity (ha!) the CRTC implemented stringent requirements that a portion of shows broadcast daily must contain Canadian Content.

In Vancouver, CKVU circumvented that little hurdle by broadcasting a two-hour live show - packed with local celebrities, National News, and endless dog & pony shows - to meet their staggering quota.

Local on air personalities like Pia Shandel (who later married into the wealthy Southam Family), and Laurier La Pierre (who?), saw their stars rise in Hollywood North!

And, don't get me started about run-a-way production and greedy producers in Tinsel Town struggling to keep a stranglehold on the whole pie!

Shortly after landing on Canuck turf, Obama thanked supporters who trekked stateside during the elections last fall to work on his campaign.

I expect the folks he was referring to - in part consisted of a handful of "snowbirds" - retirees who migrate south each year to escape the bitter-cold winters.

After all, for half-of-the-year, this sector of Canadian Society is inclined to be mindful of the way Uncle Sam is running things during the duration of their cozy stay at their properties in Florida and other states in that region of the country.

Of course, Barack was probably singling out a number of draft dodgers, no doubt, who took flight to escape the draft during the Vietnam War and tricky Dick's rein of terror.

Most, have since become legal residents of Canada since.

The Government sponsored an amnesty program a couple of decades ago - much like the one the U.S. Government implemented in 1986 - to resolve the long-standing issue of illegal aliens within Canadian borders.

As to the current war?

Although I was residing in the U.S. when the Iraq War broke out, I felt very proud of my countrymen - and Government - when the decision was made not to go full-throttle and get involved in the "Imperialist Occupation" of that Nation.

Likewise, I gave my full support when Canada refused to become part of the "Star Wars" fiasco many years ago.

To some, Barack is probably a bit of an oddity.

Yes, Prime Minister Trudeau opened the "immigration" door wide a couple of decades ago.

And, today - because of it - Canada is a multi-cultural Nation.

But, when I was a boy, things were quite different north of the border.

I was raised in an all-white neighborhood, and attended district schools that were - likewise - entirely Caucasian in make-up.

The balance of race wasn't planned that way - truth of the matter is - there weren't many blacks residing in Canada during that era.

In fact, it wasn't until I attended Humberside High in the West End of Toronto as a teen, that I came into contact with a multitude of students with multi-cultural backgrounds.

In fact, one of my first new friends at Humberside - Shaheen - was a lively boy with dancing eyes - who hailed from India!

For the most part, Canadians are a generous kind-hearted people.

But, if you're an American visiting one of the major cities - Toronto, Ottawa, Vancouver - you'll probably notice right-off-the-bat that Canucks are bit reserved and that they mind their own business.

Years ago, when I first moved to New York City, I always withdrew like a shrinking violet when strangers on the street - and die-hard New Yorkers in general - would get right up in-my-face.

And, ask frank questions, that would be considered rude in Canada.

Questions like - "How much rent do you pay" - are strictly verboten.

I guess it's a carry-over from the English Empire.

Politeness, giving people space, respecting privacy - yup - all Canadian traits.

Gosh, in view of that, I can't help but wonder.

How well did Barack and Harper get along?

Obama, if there were tense moments, don't blame yourself!

Harper is quite a conservative - an old-stuffed shirt - if you ask me.

Yes, time we had some young blood in politics in Ottawa.

Justin Trudeau, are you interested in carrying the torch?

Barack Obama...National Prayer Service for the elite?

When I flipped on the boob tube bright and early this morning, CNN was in the midst of broadcasting a prayer being offered up to - Barack Obama, his wife Michelle, and their children - in a Church ceremony rife with a lot of pomp and circumstance.

At one point, I was startled to spy a caption at the bottom of the screen which read in plain script:

"National Prayer Service is by invitation only."

Oh, God is exclusionary now?

Well, at least Reverend Jeremiah Wright, Jr. wasn't entertaining the masses with one of his wild and woolley Sermons!

Praise the Lord for that, at least!

George Bush...shoed out of Iraq!

On Monday, the Arab online community was in an inspired mood - waxing poetically, penning commentaries with great flourishes of the pen, and even zealously signing up for a novel fan club on Facebook.

What was the impetus for all this sudden surge of ecstatic upbeat activity on the Internet?

A pair of shoes flung from the hands of an Iraqi journalist - Muntather Zaidi - targeted for President George W. Bush.

Mr. Bush was on a tour of Baghdad in a public area of the city when the 29-year-old Satellite TV correspondent chose to express his angst against the U.S. President in the surest quickest method possible.

Bush was quick on the uptake, though - and with one swift duck - managed to avoid the offending missiles.

Even though Zaidi missed the subject of his disdain, the frustrated writer is still being hailed by some as a hero overseas!

After all, hurling shoes at a world leader, is the worst possible insult in Iraq.

No doubt, additional kudos are chalked up if the individual on the intended receiving end, just happens to be a cowboy Texan about to get the boot on U.S. shores, too.

In fact, comments on Internet chat sites appear to support that point of view.

The famous shoes should be exhibited in a museum as they resembled a rocket that talks on behalf of all the people of Iraq, one blogger quipped.

Elsewhere, on Arab TV stations, the images of Zaidi engaged in the act of the dastardly crime, continued to repeat non-stop for hours after the incident.

Disc Jockeys at radio stations also got into the act.

Without a visual to refer to, they encouraged their audiences to "listen" to the sound of the shoe hitting the wall and missing the outgoing President of the U.S.

Smack!

A joyous sound to Iraqi ears, no doubt!

One critic worried that the outburst would have a negative impact on journalists in the future.

"We may be asked to take off our shoes when we are invited to press conferences," one disgruntled media person whined.

Well, toss your writing utensils, then.

After all - you know what they say - the pen is mightier than the sword!

In a bold-faced effort to avoid the stigma of the ultimate Iraqi insult, Bush was inclined to assert to the press later that the act was carried out by a demented man merely seeking attention.

Nothing more, nothing less.

Meanwhile, Secretary of State - Condoleezza Rice - seized the moment to meet her own political agenda.

"It's a sign of the freedom people feel in Iraq."

Next, Ms. Rice will be pulling rabbits out of hats, I expect.

Caroline Kennedy...decision to pursue Senate Seat elicits quote of day!

Caroline Kennedy supported Obama in his campaign for President

Out-of-the-blue, Caroline Kennedy confided to a friend recently, her intention to pursue the Senate Seat being vacated by Hillary Clinton.

Caroline Kennedy is the daughter of former charismatic U.S. President, John F. Kennedy, and celebrated socialite and Art Patron, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

After wrestling with the idea for a few days, sources reported that the normally camera-shy Kennedy, made up her mind to ask the Governor - David A. Paterson (New York) - to consider her for the post.

At the time of the announcement, the Governor could not be reached for comment because he is currently on a jaunt to Utica.

In spite of this, apparently Ms. Kennedy has been putting in personal phone calls to potential supporters in the political arena, to inform them of her intentions.

Her uncle, Robert F. Kennedy, once held that office.

A handful of agitated Democrats are allegedly questioning her credentials from the get-go.

The turn of events has managed to rustle up the quote of the day in my estimation.

When U.S. Representative Gary Ackerman (a Queens Democrat) was asked what - if any - were Ms. Kennedy's qualifications to hold the post, he allegedly quipped that he didn't really know except for one thing.

"She has name recognition, but so does J. Lo."

Ouch!

Sarah Palin...photo of VP hopeful has negative impact according to Neuroscientists!

Cognitive neuroscience signals wrong message to send...

When I opened up the morning paper and spied a photograph of Sarah Palin supporters carrying placards displaying an image of the VP hopeful flexing her bicep, I laughed out loud.

Talk about synchronicity!

Just last night, I attended a lecture by Dr. Irving Biederman, the respected Harold W. Dornslife Professor of Neuroscience at USC.

The focus of the talk was on the neural basis for aesthetics.

During the course of the discussion, Dr. Beiderman displayed a handful of images on the screen which resulted in negative interpretable experiences for the subjects tested.

Curiously, a photograph that scored low on the test as a pleasurable experience, was the one that depicted a man flexing his bicep, and strikingly similar to the one Palin supporters are displaying on their placards!

Of course, the promotion is a take-off on "Rosie the Riveter".

Even still, I don't expect that the Palin camp is aware that the image they're touting is - undoubtedly, in view of the scientific research - turning off the voters they are trying to reach!

Again, it appears that John McCain and his handlers, failed to do their homework.

"Never underestimate the power of stupid people to do stupid things in large groups."

Not a lipstick pig by any stretch of the imagination!
