Electric Daisy Carnival...Vegas tribal ritual ends on upbeat ecstatic note!

In what amounted to the younger generation's answer to "Woodstock", thousands of costumed "Daisy Heads" flocked to the Las Vegas Speedway over the weekend to participate in a tribal ritual brimming with eclectic electronic music, hynotic dance maneuvers, and adventurous dalliances with a psychadelic drug or two.

The annual celebration of life went off without a hitch!

Granted, there were a few tense moments when ticket-holders and party-crashers were subjected to ID checks (18 and over please!) and thorough intrusive body searches, but once through "heaven's gate" it was smooth sailing (floating?) for the hedonistic night creatures out to par-tay 'til the crack of dawn.

In spite of a sizzling-hot heat wave (the mercury soared into the three digits by the end of the day) which threatened to wilt the festivities - music-lovers, medics, and sponsor's handlers - pitched-in and pooled their resources to prevent any mishaps (drug overdoses, overwhelming heat exhaustion, or the dangerous side effects of dehydration from gaining a stranglehold on unsuspecting victims).

The revelers kept cool-heads - in fact - and endeavoured to soar at lightning speed throughout the action-packed calendar of events - all the while vibrating an aura that radiated peace and love (dudes)!

The sponsors offered up amusements, too, such as a Ferris Wheel, a Fun House (with things that went bump in the night), and  a myriad of awesome streaming-light shows that dazzled throughout the starry night.

There were a handful of celebrated guests artists on hand (who wowed the teaming masses) such as DJ Tiesto (a pop star in his own right), Skrillex, DJ Benny Benassi, and David Guetta.

Highlights of the weekend included performances by Glitch Mob, Pleasurekraft, Bloody Beetroots Death Crew 77, Green Velvet, and Moguai.

Of course, Ecstasy was the mood elevator of choice!

Fortunately, there weren't any fatalities, hard-drug related.

So, the INSOMNIAC game plan paid off.

I expect the gang of muscle-bound studs that had their eyes on a bevy of bodacious babes will be zipping into town next year when North America's biggest RAVE returns to the desert oasis.

See 'ya there!

Electric Daisy Carnival...2nd drug overdose steps up security at Vegas Speedway Musical Event!

Amid a storm of controversy, North America's largest electronic dance "Rave" is about to kick-off today at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway on the outskirts of town.

Local Officials said it was a "go" yesterday morning after assuring concerned citizens (opposed to the trendy tribal celebration) that high-security measures were in place.

But, later in the afternoon, the promoters were forced to revamp their procedures in the wake of the disturbing news that there had been a second death at a rave in Dallas last year which was cause for additional concern.

Today, Law Enforcement Officials are confident that the "Electric Daisy Carnival" will go off without a hitch - and that over the next three rollicking fun-loving days - the festival will be a positive upbeat musical experience with no tragic incidents on the horizon.

For starters, the age limit for attendance was raised from 16 years of age to 18.

ID will be checked and verified at the gate to ensure no underage electronic music fans slip through.

All ticket-holders will also be subjected to a thorough body-search.

An inside source also whispered in my ear that a posse of undercover narcotic's agents will be filtering through the crowd to monitor drug sales - with the ultimate aim - of preventing potential overdoses.

The drug of choice, of course, is ecstasy.

The illegal substance triggers a surge of serotonin in the body (nick-named the "Happiness Hormone") which results in a surge of euphoria and mind-boggling well-being - at which point - the individual experiences a heightened-sensitivity in respect to their five senses.

"Everyone gets real touchy-feely on the dance floor," one teen fessed up jubilantly to one reporter quizzing attendees at the front entrance.

Ecstasy addicts are easy to spot in the crowd because they usually suck on baby pacifiers to prevent the teeth from grinding (a side reaction to the drug which may become a nasty habit difficult to curb until the teeth literally fall out!).

The much-ballyhooed musical extravaganza is sponsored by INSOMNIAC (go figure!) and runs from sun-up to sun-down over the weekend.

About 150 musical artists are slated to perform at the trendy "can't miss" social event of the year.

In addition to wild dancing throughout the night, ticket-holders are sure to hop on a myriad of carnival rides to add to the weekend thrills.

See 'ya there!

Canyon Buster...never again! Circus Circus Vegas ride packs a whallop!

As part of a "coupon" package I received during my stay at Circus Circus, a free ticket was offered up for the Canyon Buster thrill ride in the Hotel's Adventuredome.

Over the years, I've been to a number of theme parks - actually appeared on stage live as a performer at a couple of 'em during the summer holidays - so the modified "roller coaster" didn't appear to be that ominous or scary-looking.

Wrong!

The ride started off calmly enough.

As excited thrill-seeking teens held on tightly to the rail, the car slowly crawled to the top of a steep perch - during which time - they were able to drink up  a spectacular view of the Vegas skyline through a glass dome.

Suddenly, without warning, the cab jolted forward - then - leapt  down a startlingly deep decline - which prompted the amusement park attendees to shriek out at the top of the lungs in sheer terror as their pounding  hearts literally jumped out of their chests!

But, that was just the beginning!

In a short span of time the  riders were sent headlong down a track that jolted this way 'n that to the left and to the right (at times the paid charges were nearly spilled right out of their flimsy-seats) as they hung on for dear life.

OMG!

Just when I thought the roller coaster ride was slowing down and about to ease into the end stall - there would be another jolting round of spurts - forward, down, to the side, and up again.

The unique attraction features two six-car trains that seat four passengers in two rows per car.

Though tightly secured inside, the Canyon Buster's back-to-back vertical loops and corkscrews sent me reeling, alright.

No wonder!

The helix inside the mountain takes up a expansive portion of the park to great advantage.

The "Buster" has been touted as the worlds largest indoor double-loop double-corkscrew coaster.

And worth every cent paid up-front to experience the adrenalin-rushing  adventure under the fun-filled sun-drenched dome.

Never again, though.

The old ticker can't take it!

Michael Phelps...swimmer's dope smoking! Quote of day...

For medicinal purposes, dude!

Cruising across town this afternoon, I was flicking the dial on the radio, when I stumbled across the Tom Leykis talk show on 97.1 FM.

The spirited chat fest was focused on Michael Phelps on the heels of a news flash over the week-end that reported the Gold Medalist was snapped on film smoking the evil weed, Marijuana.

And, not just for medicinal purposes!

Of course, any arguments from Olympic dope-testing officials that a joint or two might enhance sports performance - which could result in a "foul" against the 23 year-old stud - falls on deaf ears in this corner.

For good reason!

Whenever I inhaled a toke in my wild rebellious youth, I usually ended up getting lost in the intricate designs on the carpet.

I guess that's what you'd call a magic carpet ride!

Shortly thereafter, like clockwork, I'd keel over and slip off into a euphoric dream state!

After fielding a few hotly debated issues on air, Leykis uttered the quote of the day.

"When I first caught Phelps being interviewed on a television talk show, I thought he was a dweeb. Now, I realize, he was probably just stoned."

Don't Bogart that joint, eh?
