California Hospital...negligent Nurses & Doctors endanger patients! Malpractice runs rampant!

Where is Michael Moore when you need him?

Before a patient dies at the hands of negligent nurses and doctors, a Government agency needs to investigate the slip-ups at California Hospital on Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles, and take immediate action - including disciplinary measures - to ensure the incompetence does not rise to charges of manslaughter.

Last night, for instance, patients languished in the halls for hours-on-end suffering severe pain and undue hardship before being attended to.

Those who were promised admittance were also forced to perch in crowded uncomfortable quarters – in some cases in filthy back rooms, tiny closets, and bizarre crawl spaces – before they were eventually transferred to a hospital room upstairs twelve or thirteen hours later.

In contrast, Hospital staff are quick to search down patients sprawled on the floor in pain here-and-there-and-everywhere about the hospital environs, to ensure they secure a copy of the patent's insurance carrier so that payments may be collected.

A definite lack of communication and shoddy professionalism added to the chaos.

For example, one nurse failed to give one patient crucial pain killer for a severe physical ailment, on the grounds that she was waiting for a doctor’s orders.

However, if the patient hadn't spoken up, the treatment would not have been forthcoming.

For good reason.

No one informed the doctor the patient was in pain, so the request for a prescription was never filled, for obvious reasons.

Food - when it arrived bedside - was usually cold, tasteless, and served up late in Styrofoams "take-out" wrappers!

The servers usually dragged their feet, tossed down the trays with little concern about the quality, and - more-often-than-not - gave the impression they would prefer to be sailing or some other such thing.

In the event there is ever an outbreak of food poisoning - or sudden unexplained infections among the patients - it would come as no surprise given the lackadaisical attitude of the Nurses in charge.

Meanwhile, on the 9th floor, patients were shocked to witness student nurses botch their attempts to place an IV in one patient’s arms – not once, but at least three times (totally obvious to the pain and discomfort they were inflicting on the patient).

And, when the instructor took her turn to show them how the task was professionally accomplished, she made a mess of it, too.

The patent's arms - not only ended up bruised - but also scarred once gaping open wounds finally healed.

Patients come to the hospital to be healed, not injured, God Willing.

Should a hospital allow a student nurse to practice on a patient with low platelets with a bleeding disorder?

If they think so, they need their heads examined.

And, their license to practice medicine at the California Hospital revoked, for sure!

An overhaul of the Health system is desperately needed, so I trust that the next goal of President Barack Obama will be to achieve that end in his next term as President (?).

Amen!

Ricky Martin...Sexy Superstar Crooner on stage live! Nokia Theatre! May 7th!

Ricky Martin - once the focus of a throng of hysterical teen-age girls - is slated to appear live! on stage at the Nokia Theatre on May 7th (Saturday) at 7:30 p.m.

Though the sexy superstar pop singer has disappeared from the searing glare of the spotlight in recent years, the Latino heartthrob still boasts a huge fan following.

In fact, in spite of  "coming out" at the height of his once-sizzling hot career, Ricky remains a big draw, and is one charismatic celebrity bon-bon shaker still capable of selling-out concert halls.

Quite a few of his adoring female fans still pine for the ultra-hot bump-and-grind sex symbol - in spite of the fact he is not "available" - because of his well-known status as an "out" gay man.

"I don't care if he's gay, he' so cute and a great stage performer," one fan gushed when the news first broke about his private life.

In that regard, he's certainly a phenomena in the music industry.

His "homosexuality" came as no surprise to moi!

For good reason!

Years ago, when I was cast to play a small role on General Hospital, I overheard Ricky whisper sweet nothings to his boyfriend on the telephone when I sauntered into the green room unexpectedly out-of-the-blue.

Did the sexy soap stud flinch when he spied me "eaves-dropping" on his steamy conversation with his lover?

Heck, no!

He cruised me subtly.

Discreetly, in fact.

By the gleam in his eye, though, I just knew he was interested in jumping right in between-the-sheets.

Uh-huh!

With his pretty face, and long flowing locks, the Latino beauty was quite the catch back then.

Maybe I should have been quicker on the uptake?

Martin appeared on Jay Leno last night and was surprisingly candid about the drama he suffered through over the issue of his sexuality.

”I was the sex symbol and I needed to dance and I needed to make girls crazy and I couldn’t say that I was gay.”

“It was a lot of struggle. If you add to that just call it culture, religion, society, what people say. What I was feeling, according to what I had in my mind was evil.”

With those struggles behind him now, Ricky will undoubtedly burst onto the stage of a packed house on the weekend, just oozing with sensuality.

With kids in tow backstage, just betcha!

Though a a bit older, and a family man now, he can still wiggle that tight butt, after all.

Well, you've eeither got it, or 'ya don't.

Ricky Martin has it in spades, alright.

See 'ya there!

Julian Ayrs...News Release! Artist returns to roots!

NEWS RELEASE

After engaging in a handful of artistic pursuits over the past decade or so – Canadian-born painter Julian Ayrs (and well-known blogger) – has returned to his roots.

“During a recent trip to San Francisco, I was inspired to take up the brush again,” he enthused in a recent interview.

Ayrs is currently working on a spanking-new series of paintings – crafted in pencil, chalk and water color – that is appropriately titled:

“Color, Spirit, and Light"

“The creations sprang up from an inner joy I experienced in recent days during a vacation to the picturesque tourist mecca. I find that San Francisco is very conducive to the creative spirit.”

Ayrs first exhibited his fine line drawings and sketches at Rochdale College in the fall of 1968 in his hometown (Toronto/Canada) @ 341 Bloor West.

A group show followed at the prestigious Galerie Allen in Gastown the following fall when he relocated to the West Coast of Canada.

The young painter's work was well-received by the local art community and noted art critics such as respected Joan Lowndes at the Vancouver Sun (Southam News).

A one-man exhibition of major pieces followed in March (1972).

In 1972 Ayrs was also commissioned to create street kiosks for the downtown core in Vancouver (B.C.).

The following year, the city also purchased a handful of original paintings to enliven the halls of public buildings and government offices.

A brief stint in New York City - and a tunnelful of images in the city's underground subway - inspired a series of graffiti paintings which were summarily unveiled at the tony Contemporary Royale Gallery (owned by high-flying financier Nelson Skalbania) in 1974.

The Vancouver Sun profiled Ayrs in a feature in the afternoon daily (reference/Holyoak).

For a brief period, Julian tried his hand at model ling. His face has graced the pages of slick ads for American Express, the Hudson Bay Company, T. Eaton Company, and Datsun.

In 1983, Ayrs jumped at the chance to pursue his literary interests once again, when he was offered a column in the Province Newspaper (Southam News).

Ayrs regular feature - "Dressing Right" (which focused on menswear and fashion) - appeared in the morning paper for a year-or-so before Ayrs up and moved to the U.S. to pursue an acting career.

Ayrs was first published by Coach House Press (IS.8/Victor Coleman/Editor) in 1968.

A short story - "Cottage Cheese" - was purchased for broadcast by CBC Radio in 1972 (Robert Chesterman/Producer).

Shortly after arriving in Los Angeles, Ayrs became a member of the Screen Actors Guild, and began landing acting jobs in Hollywood.

Julian first starred in the one-act play - The Marriage Proposal - by Anton Chekhov.

He was given the nod with an "Award of Merit" by Simpsons Drama Festival jurors early on in his budding career.

In Hollywood, the struggling actor managed to land a few bit parts on the popular TV sitcom "Murphy Brown", the comedy variety-show hit "In Living Color", and highly-rated daytime soap operas such as "General Hospital" and the "Young & the Restless".

For a period of approximately two years, Ayrs was also a Literary Agent representing screenwriters at Roy Wallack & Associates and the Camille Sorice Agency (both SAG franchised agents) respectively.

During his tenure at Wallack, Tom Hank's film production office invited Ayrs to submit story ideas for projects, with the specific aim of changing the actor's "Big" image, and the express hope that the rising star stretch his acting "muscles".

A scripted idea for an A.I.D.S. drama (conceived by Julian) was originally rejected by Hanks ("who didn't want to do an A.I.D.S. feature at the time) but later embraced for some inexplicable reason.

During the first season of Fox's reality show - "On the Lot" - which focused on fledgling filmmakers (Steven Spielberg/Executive Producer) - Ayrs was invited to pen a blog.

Ayrs' posts were often featured on the main homepage, and subsequently, he drummed a huge reader base interested in his daily musings on celebrities, show business-in-general, and what-have-you.

When the experimental night-time bill-of-fare was can celled, Ayrs moved over to Google, and started up his own blog which became known as "The Tattler".

Today, the Tattler has made Mr. Ayrs one of the world's best-known bloggers in the world (recognized at high-profile red-carpet events, in the bustling streets among the common folk, etc.)

http://www.ijulian.blogspot.com/

Daily, avid readers surf to the current highly-ranked site to peruse movie reviews, reports on celebrity figures, and catch up on his - at times controversial - social and political commentaries (with a main thrust on Pop Culture).

Ayrs intends to exhibit his new series of paintings in the near future in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York.

Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital...a threat to patients! Dr. Sassan Davoudi a Quack! Hazardous facilities! Wrong diagnosis!

A coat of paint may cover a multitude of sins!

If you're thinking about heading over to the "Emergency" Department at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital at 1300 N. Vermont Street in Hollywood, you may want to reconsider the trek if you value your health and well-being.

Patients have complained about hazardous facilities, incompetent "quacks" such as Dr. Sassan Davoudi and Dr. Joseph M. Nussbaum, bumbling Nurses who bruise patients because of sloppy handi-work and a devil-may-care attitude, and dishonest misrepresentations about the Hospital's "mission" to provide quality care.

For instance, when one ailing individual limped into the lobby of emergency complaining of severe chest pains, they were forced to cool their heels for over two 1/2 hours before any hospital personnel made any professional effort to hustle them back to an examination "cubby-hole" for an EKG or timely X-ray to determine the severity of the problem.

In contrast - hospitals in the general vicinity in Los Angeles - usually give a green light and special priority to potential heart-attack victims (for obvious reasons).

When an individual is finally admitted after long delays at the run-down facility (and an excessive amount of paperwork has been shoved in their pain-ridden faces to fill out) they are subjected to a wild hair-raising ride in a wheelchair outside - sometimes on an icy cold eve at an ungodly hour - to a make-shift X-ray examination room which has been set up slap-dab in the parking lot behind a rusty chain-link fence in a cramped trailer.

Once on the threshold, the inexperienced Nurse proceeds to precariously hoist the patient up onto a crudely-crafted ramp at the door of the rickety shelter, where they are rolled inside for a chest and/or body scan.

Until Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital erects a structure (indoors) that meets the building codes required by California's State Medical Board (and City Officials) patients will continue to be vulnerable to the potentially dangerous hazards.

Talk about negligence and a wanton disregard for patient safety!

In fact, one nurse confessed that one bleak night, he broke a toe after tripping over debris scattered on the pathway to the poorly-constructed outdoors lab.

Elsewhere on the premises, after a few vials of blood were helter-skelter drawn from another patient (which resulted in unsightly bruises on their arms), they were solemnly informed that they were suffering from diabetes.

When the charge noted there had never been any history of the ailment in their family - or even a hint of symptoms either - the inexperienced hospital worker simply shrugged and uttered under their breath in a hushed tone:

"Maybe your blood sugar is just high tonight for some reason."

At this juncture, the diagnosis was deleted from the patent's medical record, with little ado.

Say what?

It was evident to the patient, at this point, that the technician was unqualified for their post!

But, the shoddy unprofessional conduct did not end there, not by a long shot!

One patient languished in "Emergency" for ten hours or so, before the Hospital staff finally wheeled him up to a room outfitted for two.

The sorry individual was suddenly aghast to find themselves dropped on a bed and left to reckon with an obviously mentally-deranged patient who screamed out incoherently at the top of his lungs every few minutes or so.

Then, the physician on duty - Dr. Sassan Davoudi (a bizarre-looking man with bushy eyebrows and eyes that blinked every second-or-two like a spooky old owl) - stumbled in looking for all-the-world like some dishevelled bum.

To make matters worse, the physician was unable to speak fluent English, or effectively communicate to the startled patient in a calm professional manner.

On one occasion, when Davoudi opened up his yap, he barked out orders to the patient in a disturbing demeaning fashion.

"Stand up," he demanded.

When the patient attempted to carry out the demand, he lost his balance, and fell plunk-down onto the bed unmade bed.

In spite of the obvious, the doctor bellowed out more orders, with little regard for the well-being of the patient grasping for oxygen on the bed.

In the midst of attempting to walk across the hospital room - as instructed - the Doctor suddenly waved the sick patient off.

"You're okay. Get dressed. Go home," he growled at the shocked patient, before he strolled out the door never to be seen again!

Then, the situation turned from bad to worse.

For example, when a male nurse briskly waltzed in with discharge papers (and a curt demand that he exit the hospital room immediately), the disoriented patient informed the employee that he was too weak to comply with the request.

At this point, on the heels of a call to Financial Services, a rude African American woman by the name of Gabriela Duran-Lopez (with no noticeable manners or sense of professionalism) strode into the room and warned the patient that if they did not get dressed - and exit - they'd be charged $2,500.00 for an overnight stay.

"Cash," she barked at the startled patient.

Shocking behaviour - especially when you consider the "Mission" statement the Hospital Director has set forth in the patient manual bedside - at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital.

It reads as follows:

"For more than 80 years, Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center has been helping the Hollywood community and surrounding areas, serving your medical needs (!) and those of your loved ones.

Our medical center strives to distinguish itself as a leading health care provider, recognized for providing quality (!), innovative (you betcha!) care in a professional (!) and compassionate (!) manner.

What a load of bullsh**, eh?

But, the shocking conduct of staff at the Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital didn't end after the demand for cash was made.

Unable to comply with the request - the patient humbly asked that he be permitted to stay over - until friends (or family) could arrange to pick him up bright-and-early the next morning.

When Ms. Duran-Lopez noted that she would call Social Services for a quick resolution to the problem, the nastiness escalated, go figure!

Angered by what she perceived as a refusal to leave the premises willingly, a nasty butch-looking woman - by the name of Clarissa (from Social Services) - stormed into the room armed with threats.

"If you don't get dressed and leave immediately, security will escort you to the door," she growled angrily.

Calls to Supervisor - Linda Kaye - were left unreturned!

Outrageous unprofessional behaviour when you consider the Social Services blurb in the patient guide which stated as follows:

Social Services

The Social Services Department assists all patients with emotional, social, and economic problems related to their healthcare (!).

The Department's mission is to provide consultation to family members, caregivers, and significant others to ensure ongoing support vital to a patient's well being (!!!).

Special focus and attention are given to patient and families who are at high risk for problems of adjustments, safety, economic hardship, life-threatening illness, and other severe psychological stresses related to health condition.

Several reasons a patient may need Social Services include:

*Acute grieving, depression, and anxiety
*Suicidal/Homicidal ideation, gravely disabled
*No known family or support system
*Victims of abuse, physical/emotional/sexual neglect/violence by caretakers
*Family behaviour adversely affecting patient welfare and care (!!!)
*Older adults (70+) with multiple physical needs and psychological needs
*homelessness (!!!)
*Substance abuse

Bottom line?

Lies! Lies! Lies!

It's all a public relations ploy, dude.

Coincidentally, I just read a report in the San Francisco Chronicle this past week, that the early discharge of patients is becoming a major problem - enough so, in fact - that the State Medical Board may step in to rectify the growing problem.

For example, it was announced that any Hospital that releases a patient prematurely - who is later forced to return to emergency for additional care - would be levied a penalty.

I am in accord!

In fact, in view of the breaches of professional ethics at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital (formerly known as the Queen of Angels), I expect their facility will be at the top of the list!

In the final analysis, it is also evident from the aforementioned facts, that the Nurses at the Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital are negligent, unprofessional, and derelict in their duty when it comes to fulfilling their "mission".

In fact, their staff are a menace to the community.

Avoid this medical facility like the plague!

Marina Del Rey Hospital...rinky-dink medical facility run by incompetent negligent staff!

Heaven forbid a tourist or a local should be unexpectedly stricken by a sudden illness at the beach, forcing the hapless individual to dash into the Emergency Care facility at the Marina.

What a rink-dink unprofessional hole-in-the-wall place the Marina Del Rey Hospital is!

Shortly after being admitted to the hospital by rude insulting staff (with a piss-poor attitude) patients have revealed that they were set on a treadmill amidst a pile of confusing paperwork - at which point - they got lost in the woodwork as a posse of incompetent case workers and patient liaisons got caught up in a tangle of Healthcare policies threatening to shorten their lives if the actual emergency care wasn't forthcoming soon.

Indeed, when one patient lamented that he wasn't getting much-needed emergency attention, a nurse confirmed red-faced that there had been a slip-up.

The patient's name was left off the list on the Hospital in-patient registry!

Consequently, he was left to wander the halls in search of treatment while the hospital staff at the Marina Del Rey Hospital did fu** all!

In spite of the fact each Nurse at the hospital is assigned four patients - one incompetent lay-about found it difficult to keep up - in spite of the fact only three individuals were in her charge on the night I was eye-witness to her shoddy performance.

Notwithstanding the hospital's failure to promptly admit a patient (which amounted to negligence) and its subsequent shortcomings in respect to providing professional medical care in a timely fashion - it should be noted that the facility was also lacking in other respects, too.

For instance, food rarely arrived on time at the breakfast or dinner hour- and, when the trays did arrive - the orders were either cold and tasteless or short on the items marked on the menu.

Non English-speaking workers were also slow to clean the rooms daily.

But, you know what really got my gander up?

When the aforementioned issues were raised, the immigrant workers employed there just shrugged.

"Me no speak English."

In a hospital where the issue of germs, bacteria, and cleanliness are of utmost importance - it shocks the sensibilities - to encounter such a rampant disregard for a patient's right to professional medical care (especially at a facility that purports to be professional and top notch in quality).

In addition - more often than not - patients are dragged into inappropriate arguments with inexperienced staff who end up adding stress and strain in a patient's dark hour of need at the hospital due to their lack of training, overall skills, knowledge, and hands-on experience.

In fact, as patients languish in their rooms - in need of a doctor's emergency attention,  pain-killers, and what-have-you - the ignorant unprofessional workers often persist in pursuing ongoing verbal battles with the ill as they writhe in their beds in excruciating pain waiting for much-needed medical care.

Curiously, it was announced last night on the nightly news that California is imposing laws that require a patient's care - not only be timely - but also overseen by medical practioners (and not left in the hands of the insurance carrier).

Obviously, the policy is being implemented to ensure that a patient receives the expert medical care and attention they are entitled to by Law- and in a timely fashion at the medical facility - in compliance with their paid-up policy.

Amen!

Citizen's Choice...excellent health care plan! Vision, Drugs & Dental!

As the end of the year rolls around, a posse of Seniors and Disabled Citizens are now forced to thumb through stacks of literature to locate a new health care plan, after being informed by Medicare that their provider is discontinuing services.

A sign of the times, perhaps?

Securing a plan that is either on par with the one that met their needs (drugs, low co-payments, maximum coverage, etc.) during the calendar year of 2010 - or better than the one they were content with - is not an easy row to hoe!

For those who need a heads-up, I highly recommend Citizen's Choice.

For starters, there are no co-payments for Doctor's visits.

In addition, most drugs are covered one-hundred-percent; but - if one is not - the prescription may only require a small co-pay (which amounts to about $1.00 to $3.00 in most cases).

In addition to comprehensive medical coverage for procedures and hospital stays - you name it - Dental and Vision benefits (such as free x-rays, cleanings, flouride treatments, and eye exams) are also provided.

Amazing, since most plans tossed out those benefits long ago when the economy spiralled downward.

There are many perks, too.

The plan pays for up to twenty free taxi rides during the course of the year for travel to-and-from medical facilities.

For those who are disabled, or do not drive, this is truly a plus.

In the event Citizen's Choice does not meet your standards (it's an HMO), then contact Medicare for a booklet outlining the plans and benefits provided for each provider in your neighborhood.

Happy Holidays!

San Francisco General Hospital...feces on floor! Dr. Matthew Oiert incompetent! Unprofessional staff!

Just try to find the front entrance!

If you were a fly on the wall at San Francisco General Hospital, you'd spy feces smeared on the floor, snobs at the front desk discriminating against walk-in patients at "Emergency", and unqualified Medical practitioners (such as Dr. Matthew Oiert) with little or no medical training (and a bad attitude) misdiagnosing the ailments of patients (for starters).

In fact, the attending physcians at SFGH are so clueless, that they actually rely on a patient's off-the-cuff jokes in idle moments to fathom up what's ailing their patients.

Disturbing!

For example, after thoroughly examining a patient over the weekend, Dr. Oiert shook his head in frustration.

No matter how long - how hard (or soft) - he pushed, patted or probed - he was unable to figure out what was triggering the pain in the middle-aged man's chest.

In the final analysis, the Doctor (obviously, wet behind the ears) was forced to admit  he was stumped.

At this juncture, his medical charge laughingly recalled that his symptoms appeared to mimic those that unfolded in a hilarious Jack Nicholson film which starred Diane Keaton and Keanu Reeves.

In sum, Nicholson's character mistakes an episode of acid reflux (heartburn) for a heart attack

Eurkea!

"You're suffering from indigestion," the doctors calmly assured the patient, as he proceeded to ignore the irregular heartbeat (noticeably slipping on the EKG) and shortness of breath (about to adversely affect the patient's health in the near future if not properly checked).

But, it is the attitude of the staff at the front desk at the Emergency entrance, that is particularly shocking to encounter.

When one emotionally-distraught man was out-of-sight (off to the mensroom, I expect) the nurse on duty instructed the clerk at the admission desk to turn-away the individual when he returned because he was "too aggressive" to deal with!

Wasn't that a warning sign that the individual may be in dire need of help?

In addition, nurses in "Emergency" openly discriminate against hapless individuals.

During the course of a visit I made there, I caught sight of a nurse not only neglecting a patient who was first in line, but needlessly making a negative comment as well.

"He didn't appear to be that important," the nurse was overheard to say to the individual she randomly chose to provide hospital services to next.

Another woman - who appeared to be a homeless individual - stood at the admission desk largely ignored by a rude employee at the check-in desk.

Inside the hospital - beyond the confines of the hectic emergency department - visitors are confronted with a maze of clutter that sends up red flags here-there-and-everywhere warning about potential hygiene disasters.

At one point, I recoiled in disgust when I just about stepped in feces that was smeared on the floor.

In spite of the seriousness of the situation (germs of the worst kind spewing rampant on the floor of a hospital?) not one staff member bothered to lift a finger to cleanse the area when it was brought to their atttention.

It wasn't until I mentioned the offending "spill" to a third party later that action was finally taken.

I was particularly shocked to learn that when individuals are processed at "emergency" to register for health care, the clerk in that office trots over to the patient's bedside - when they are usually suffering and in pain - to quiz them about how much money they make a month!

Isn't that a violation of a patient's rights - or the privacy act - at least?

In view of the fact the San Francisco General boasts in its Mission Statement that they accept the needy - no matter their race, color, creed, or bank account balance - it struck me as inappropriate.

Is this a sign of what's to come with ObamaCare?

Cedars Sinai...Nurse abuse more widespread according to LA Times!

St. Rose Nurses guilty of drug theft!

On Saturday, I posted an expose on the growing problem that Cedars Sinai is currently facing.

The problems I reported on Saturday were only the tip of the iceberg, however.

In an earlier post, I reported in-depth incidents of outright negligence, incompetence, and lack of quality of care which has been tarnishing the image of the once-presitigious Medical Faciility.

Nurses violate Patient Rights @ Cedars Sinai

http://ijulian.blogspot.com/2010/05/cedars-sinaiviolates-patient-rights.html

Subsequently, I was  not surprised to pick up the LA Times this morning and spy an investigative report on Nurses in the State of California.

According to the reporters at the daily, the inappropriate conduct of Nurses is widespread, and not restricted to "quality" of care.

For example, Nurses have been sanctioned for neglect, sexual abuse, drug use and criminality (theft of patient property, for one).

In my own experience as a patient, I have found the foregoing to be true.

Over the weekend at Cedar's Sinai, for instance, one middle-aged Nurse kept trying to lift my gown to stare at my genitals.

At a hospital in Las Vegas (St. Rosa) the doctor prescribed morphine for my pain.

When it wasn't forthcoming, I asked to speak with the "charge" Nurse.

A middle-age Filipino Nurse swore up-and-down that she gave me the injection.

A total falsehood.

I surmise she either squirreled the addictive narcotic way for her own use or to sell on the black market.

In an article I penned on a Las Vegas Medical Facility on Charleston Street - I reported that I witnessed shocking abuse of a patient in the Emergency Department.

When an orderly stepped into a cubicle and noticed that the patient (with kidney and liver problems) had urinated on themsevles (because no Nurse or orderly was available to assist at their moment of need) the insensitive unprofessional shouted at the patient.

"Did you piss all over yourself", with a tone of disgust in his voice.

The appropriate way to treat a patient?

At another Vegas hospital, a patient sat in Emergency for about 12 hours before being installed in their hospital room. During that time span, the patients medical records - and their insurance information - went "missing".

For the next two days, a doctor was unable to locate the files.

Was this a classic example of neglect or an attempt at Identity Theft?

http://ijulian.blogspot.com/2009/10/barack-obama-insurance-reform-racist.html

In an earlier Times investigation, journalists learned that hundreds of Nurses have een sanctioned elsewhere (other states) but continue to work in the Golden State.

According to Paul Riches - a director at the Dept. of Consumer Affairs - investigation of new disciplinary cases filed in recent months are going to be a difficult challenge to meet.

A database maintained by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing has revealed that many Nurses were disciplined for the same offenses but continue to defiantly maintain watch over unsuspecting patients (who are obvioously at risk).

State Officials note for the record that a complaint must be filed in California against the Nurse in question before an investigation may begin with the aim of ousting the unqualified and/or disreputable practioner from the profession.

Patients are urged to report all incidents of Nurse abuse and/or negligence to State Officials with the ultimate aim of preventing innocent victims from being the target of these uscrupulous unqualifed hospital personnel.

Cedars-Sinai...Nurses ditzy and clueless! Gay orderlies a comfort!

Oh boy!

The quality of care at Cedars-Sinai is slipping!

On a recent trip to the upscale (!) celebrity-favored medical facility for a procedure - I was shocked by the unprofessional, sloppy, health care - I encountered during the course of  my stay.

I'll start by noting that the young males nurses (and orderlies) were quite attentive.

No problem with bedside manner, there!

One twenty-something worker started the conversation by asking if I was a surfer.

Then, offered up a great compliment.

"You have Steve McQueen hair," he piped up in all sincerity.

I didn't warm up to the idea of my temperature being taken rectally.

But, I lucked out, because the handsome toy-boy type (with every strand of hair coiffed to perfection) was in charge of that delicate procedure.

Unfortunately, these gents were installed in a department I fleetingly passed through.

Suddenly, the mood changed a tad, when I found myself in the clutches of a gaggle of middle-aged "bags" trying to pass themselves off as Nurses.

At first glance, these slow-moving frumps appeared to be somebody's "mother".

Did they lose their way after visiting hours?

And, the Filipino nurse gave the impression they're on the look-out for a rich lover clinging to life on death's bed.

Was it my imagination -  or was the pretty young Asian nurse - flirting with me?

At one point, as I attempted to trot to the little boy's room, she coyly sidled up close to me and seductively posed a question.

"Going somewhere?"

Not her way, 'fer sure.

The thought crossed my mind that I must be wary - after all - spurned admirers are inclined to react (retaliate?) in unexpected surpising way.

Uh-huh.

Think "Fatal Attraction" - the film starring Glen Close and Michael Douglas.

Some folks are romantically turned on by wrinkles and the convenience of a limp di** for two good reasons.

On dates, folks will surmise the old dude is their father, for starters.

And, the erectile dysfunction guarantees that sexual romps will probably be limited to petting (and maybe a spanking).

The odds are that a handful of these ambitious gold-diggers will hit the jackpot and dive into a life of  luxury fueled by old (best) or new money (usually a vulgar option).

Does the name - Anna Nicole Smith - ring any bells?

Nuff said.

Laptop...No etiquette @ Cedars Sinai! Mr. Manners scorns nosey-parkers! Get a life!

What dreary unfulfilled lives they must lead.

Of course - I am referring to cafe hogs who gang up on electrical outlets in order to charge their pricey state-of-the-Art gizmos (of the kind President Obama warned us about) - without any consideration for the rest of the patrons pining for a spark of the vital stuff.

If that weren't uncooth enough, nurses on duty breezed in to my hospital room at whim (under the guise of tidying up) and surreptiously cranked their heads this way 'n that in order to peruse my musings on the computer screen.

I was always taught that this kind of conduct was rude and insulting and an outright iinvasion of privacy.

One perky nurse by the unlikely name of Rosetta strode into the bathroom while I was on the toilet and went about her business.

Miss, if you want some kinky thrills, saunter over to one of the sleaze-bag Hotels on Sunset, and book a room there.

No freebies at Cedars-Sinai.

The fact that Ms. Congeniality was totally oblivious to her glaring  inappropriate conduct underscored what a classless low-life woman (I use the term loosely) is.

Did it never occur to this fast-talking gal from Georgia that a man (Don't know about the ladies) would prefer a little privacy when they're comfortably ensconced on the throne in the bathroom of their home?

Later, the same empty-headed hospital employee, maneuvered herself next to my laptop in order to take note of the data I was keying into my laptop for publication on the Internet.

Fed up, I subtly lowered the lid of the computer to get the message across -  and likewise - block her view.

She must have cheese for brains.

After departing for a few moments, she found some worthless excuse to return to my hospital room - at which poiint - she continued with her disturbing behavior.

It's evident to me now, the nurse has serious psychological problems, which need therapy.

You're not in Kansas anymore, Miss.

Wake up and smell the pampers!

Ricky Martin...admits he's gay! Pop Singer says he's a "Fortunate Homosexual Man"...

Frolics on the beach with studly dudes raised suspicions!

After years of skirting around the issue - and in spite of adopting two adorable young children with no visible main squeeze in sight  - sexy Pop Icon Ricky Martin continued to remain mum about his sexual persuasion.

Last week, when I penned a post on the subject of interviews, I noted that years ago Walters put Ricky on the "hot seat" when - at the height of his poplularity in the glare of the spotlight - she pointedly quizzed:

"Ricky, are you gay?"

In my own post, I noted that Ricky's awkward silence - and refusal to cough up an answer - "said it all" - in the eyes of millions of viewers (and die-hard fans) watching on the edge-of-their-seats at home.

http://ijulian.blogspot.com/search?q=miley+cyrus+jay+leno

Years ago, when I was working on General Hospital one day as an actor (Ricky had a role on the daily soap for a short stint) I overheard Ricky whispering sweet nothings to a male pal in the green room.

So, I've known that he was a closeted homosexual man for years!

Today, the handsome performer (formerly of Menudo) announced to the world on his official web site - that he is indeed - "gay".

"I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man," Ricky said.

"I am very blessed to be who I am.".

Ricky said writing his memoir and thinking about his two twin sons led him to go public.

"To keep living as I did up until today would be to indirectly diminish the glow that my kids were born with. Enough is enough. This has to change. This was not supposed to happen 5 or 10 years ago, it is supposed to happen now. Today is my day, this is my time, and this is my moment," he wrote.

"These years in silence and reflection made me stronger and reminded me that acceptance has to come from within and that this kind of truth gives me the power to conquer emotions I didn't even know existed," he continued.

"What will happen from now on? It doesn't matter. I can only focus on what's happening to me in this moment. The word "happiness" takes on a new meaning for me as of today. It has been a very intense process. Every word that I write in this letter is born out of love, acceptance, detachment and real contentment. Writing this is a solid step towards my inner peace and vital part of my evolution."

Walters fessed up about the "error of her ways" just recently.

"In 2000, I pushed Ricky Martin very hard to admit if he was gay or not, and the way he refused to do it made everyone decide that he was," she told The Toronto Star.

"A lot of people say that destroyed his career, and when I think back on it now, I feel it was an inappropriate question.".

Ricky also alerted followers on "Twitter" about his decision to  officially "come out".

The bombshell tweet was simpled titled: "my life".

In anticipation of the big step forward - to break the ice a tad? - Ricky was inclined to post another tweet a couple of days earlier which should have signaled to many what was on the horizon.

"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter. M.L.K.Jr.," he wrote.

The initials - M.L.K.Jr. - refer to Martin Luther King, Jr.

Ricky a proud pappa!

What a romantic (heavenly) notion!

Sip a cocktail under a full moon on a wide-open adventurous sea surrounded by a bevy of your favorite male soap opera hunks!

I guess I was slow on the uptake.

If it weren’t for a soapie (fan) penning a comment today on a post for daytime TV's - General Hospital - I would have been in the dark about a celebrity-studded “Soap Opera Cruise” that’s fast becoming a big hit around the sudsy circuit!

Although I missed the first get-a-way last year into the exotic realms of soapdom, a 2nd cruise is planned for January.

One of the cruiseliner’s new attractions is a specialty restaurant featuring a heart of glass.

The “Murano” - situated in the center of the ship - sparkles with magnificent chandeliers in exquisite hand-crafted glass.

The eatery is named after an island off Murano near Venice (Italy, not California, silly) where glass-blowing has been a fine art and tradition since the 13th century.

The "Century’s" dramatic two-level “Grand Restaurant” has been entirely refurbished and retains the glamour and sophistication that made it popular prior to the revitalization.

The high-quality service has won extensive praise each year under the deft direction of the Celebrity Cruiseline's culinary team.

Among the many other dining options onboard Century is a 76-seat Sushi Bar set in a casual Asian atmosphere among a collection of thematic artifacts and fine artwork.

Century’s Ocean Grill, on the other hand, offers an alternative dining area with an upscale ambience where guests can select cuisine ranging from steaks, chops, salads, antipastos and desserts from a fixed menu.

Guests will find fresh made-to-order omelettes and crepes each morning opposite the Ocean Grill and an endless array of pizzas and made-to-order pastas every afternoon and evening in the same location.

For the sweet tooth in everyone, just around the corner, there is a station offering a tantalizing array of homemade ice creams and sorbets.

Pairing refreshing sea air with panoramic views, "Century’s" outdoor Sunset Bar features a full-service bar where guests can enjoy an assortment of fresh tapas and appetizers with cocktails and other beverages.

A Celebrity favorite across the fleet (Cova Café ) is the seagoing version of the stylish coffeehouse in the fashion district of Milan.

The Cafe offers up fresh pastries and cookies to complement its coffees, teas, and other beverages every day. At night, the space transforms into a romantic lamp-lit wine bar with live music.

Exercise in the award-winning AquaSpa onboard "Century" which now features a reception area with the spotlight on a 42-inch LCD TV highlighting spa services; 10 new sea-view treatment rooms; new locker rooms with lounge seating; a beauty salon with enhanced manicure and pedicure bars; a dedicated teeth-whitening station; a Persian Garden with Turkish steam room; three tropical showers; both infrared and Finnish saunas; Celebrity’s first barber shop, and a 54-set Spa Café serving light and healthy cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Adjacent to the AquaSpa, Celebrity’s Acupuncture at Sea (the only such program in the cruise industry) offers guests acupuncture treatments, therapies and enrichment lectures by licensed doctors of Oriental Medicine.

The fitness center within the AquaSpa area features top-of-the-line equipment throughout, including treadmills and cardio machines with personal LCD TVs, and a variety of strength-training equipment.

"Celebrity" also offers computer training courses ranging from basic program use to web site creation to digital photography within a dedicated space.

An art gallery joins a new array of trendy boutiques in “The Boulevard”.

Here, art connoisseurs have opportunity to purchase one-of-a-kind works, while avid shoppers will find designer beauty products, fashions, leather goods, premium gifts, rare gems, designer accessories, watches and sunglasses within easy buying reach.

“Cool” Clubs and Lounges

Century boasts the first “ice bar” concept at sea within its Martini Bar, which boasts a liquid wall that freezes to form a sparkling crystalline appearance and a bar counter that freezes into ice-cold stone.

A block of ice creatively displays liquor behind the bar but has a practical purpose.

It’s an ultra “cool” way to serve Celebrity’s menu of 30 versions of martinis.

Other newly refurbished cocktail bars include the Crystal Lounge, Michael’s Club jazz/piano bar, Rendezvous Lounge, and the Hemispheres observation lounge and disco.

“X-Treme” is a Teen Travelers lounge installed with a video arcade to help wile the hours away.

The dedicated space includes a dance floor, juice bar, jukebox, and karaoke stage, along with computers offering Internet access.

Stylish Staterooms and Suites features new premium mattresses, 100 percent Egyptian cotton linens, duvets, Euro pillows, colorful bed throws and pillow shams.

Every ocean-view and inside stateroom onboard Century is equipped with new flat-screen TVs, wireless Internet access, new carpet, textiles, windows, lighting fixtures, and art.

The bathrooms have new vanities and enhanced lighting, stylish surface-mounted sink basins and fixtures, curved-rod shower curtains, and renewed architectural surfaces.

Century’s suites were upgraded with new carpeting, wall coverings, windows, textiles, and designer light fixtures. Each is equipped with new phones, 26-inch LCD TVs, DVD players, wireless Internet access, new accessories, and new veranda furniture.

The KMc and JT Chat Forum...soap talk! Sudsy! Scintillating! Surreal!

When you least expect it, doors open into new dimensions.

Especially on the Internet!

Yesterday, I posted a report on the "A.I.D.S. Walk" here in Los Angeles, and casually made mention of the fact Kimberly McCullough and Jason Thompson (two stars on General Hospital) appeared at the opening ceremonies much to the delight of the 30,000 strong in attendance to raise funds for the A.I.D.S. cause.

Shortly after the post, my blog stats zoomed right up into the blogosphere.

So, I clicked on the stats link to check out what was revving up my site.

I spied a referral link to:

http://z4.invisionfree.com/KMc_and_JT_chat/index.php?showtopic=42&st=1700

Ah, so that was it.

My post noted that sexy Kimberly and oh-so-studly Jason were at the opening ceremonies to discuss their characters on General Hospital - and report in to APLA - that they raised $73,000 for the cause.

Kimberly plays a character on the popular daytime soap who is inflicted with A.I.D.S. - and in a bold plot twist for a daily serial - has become romantically involved with Jason's character who is HIV Negative.

Perplexing dilemma!

The site is where fans of Jason Thompson and Kimberly McCullough offer up juicy tidbits on their fave daytime soap stars.

I LOL (laughed out loud, newbies) at a handful of the zesty comments at the site!

One comment about Jason's wardrobe, for instance, was a laugh riot.

"My god I hate his sunglasses. Did he buy them at WalMart?"

Yeah, it's those goofy rims, that are the tip off.

But, the fan was quick to note that Jason looked FABULOUS in blue!

Here's the part I howled over:

"He looks like he styled his hair to have that messy look, is that in or is it just messy? lol.gif Hot either way yes513.gif The man is just a whole plate of yum."

Yup.

Just want to - um - eat 'em up!

The next fan was a real expert on shades, for some inexplicable reason.

"I hate the shades too. The best shades on him were the ones he wore at FITS SD in 2006 (?). Those fit his face just right. They didn't sit high on his nose like these appear to. I hate when he wears these kinds of shades. I like the close to the face ones for him. I hate the ones that have the shiney frames. Just keep it simple JT. Those shades on Kimberly, I don't like either, but those appear to be the ones she had resting on her head at FCW at the Scrubs event this year. They were the red ones, right? She wasn't seen wearing them at the event, but I recognized the sides of them."

You know what they say, it's all in the details!

I also loved the humor and the creative visuals tossed into the mix.

"You guys are quick lol.gif Thank you for posting. 73 thousand dollars was raised? Wow!!! Great job everyone emoticon_cincin.gif "

Then, as I scrolled down out-of-left field a real zinger hit my funny - um - bone.

"I like their sunglasses. scared2656564.gif "

You can come out from under the chair now.

Opinions are graciously accepted, 'ya know?

"It's funny because I think both Kimberly and Jason have a great sense of style. They aren't main stream, but they both have a unique and comfortable yet edgy fashion sense."

"I'm impressed with what they wear 90% of the time."

In view of all that was unfolding at the KMc and JT Chat Forum, I expect that if I were Jason or Kimberly, I'd really pay attention to what I casually tossed on in the morning.

Whether they know it or not, they're sending shock waves around the planet, at whim!

Whew!

I am exhausted keepin' up.

Will keep ya posted on all the goings-on.

There will be a shades alert in the future, fer sure!

A.I.D.S. Walk Los Angeles...charismatic actor John Schneider sings theme song at Opening Ceremonies. Youth of America carries the torch!

There was a smattering of talk about charitable acts, a spotlight thrown on shocking A.I.D.S. statistics that reflected there is a growing crisis on these shores, a few ubiquitous references to a political issue, and a round of uplifting live entertainment.

Of course, it was the opening ceremony for the annual A.I.D.S. walk, which kicked into high gear earlier today in West Hollywood.

Actor John Schneider - known of late for his role as Superman's father in the popular TV series, but best loved for his stint on "Dukes of Hazzard" - appeared before enthusiastic A.I.D.S. "walkers" to sing the theme song: "You'll never walk alone".

The sexy actor elicited a stir from the audience when he sauntered to the mic in blue jeans and boots topped with a white dress shirt sprayed with red sequins which sparkled like stardust in the early morning sun.

Each year, the song - one that tests the vocal ability of the best of crooners - is performed by a special guest just before the walk starts up.

The uplifting ballad - usually sung by a female - was well-suited to Schneider's distinctive masculine voice. In fact - his phrasing and shading of notes hit their mark so beautifully - a number of eyes teared up.

Soulful - and a bit bluesy at times - the heartfelt rendition was somewhat reminiscent of Elvis' early song stylings.

John, you should sing more often!

The strapping star dedicated the "Walk" to three men who died of A.I.D.S.

In a poignant moment, he noted that it is difficult enough to die around those you love, but more so, if you are dying and the "Government" is trying to tell you who that person should be.

Of course - he was referring to Proposition 8 - and the measure on the November Ballot to ban gay marriages in the State of California.

Loretta Divine (Eli Stone, ABC) pointed out that tomorrow was the last day to register to vote, and she urged everyone in attendance to sign up if they hadn't already - and to be sure to vote nay on Proposition 8.

"We must stop California from becoming a State of bigots," she cried out to the audience who cheered wildly in response.

But the big focus was on the topic of A.I.D.S., for obvious reasons.

The discovery of drug cocktails in recent years managed to quell a handful of the opportunistic infections in some and bring about a turn-around in deaths due to HIV complications.

For this reason, it appears that many have become complacent about the killer disease - and likewise - are under the mistaken impression that the epidemic is over.

No cause for alarm?

The keynote speaker - Rachel Griffiths (who plays a character on "Brothers & Sisters") - cited some disturbing statistics for the audience to mull over.

"To date, over twenty-five million people have died from A.I.D.S. And, 56,000 new infections are reported each year. Remarkably, twenty-five percent who are infected don't know they've contracted the disease."

Ms. Griffiths stressed that there was a particular cause for concern because one trial for a new treatment was just halted.

There are no new drug options just now.

"We all must take a stand."

And, that's what 30,000 walkers were doing today.

Taking a queue from Ms. Griffiths - one Congressman in attendance - further added that it was important voters demand that the next President of the United States have a definite policy on A.I.D.S. and a mandate to fight the killer disease.

Craig Miller - an eloquent speaker (who founded the A.I.D.S. Walk twenty-four years ago) - was on hand to give thanks, too.

In the wake of the big brouhaha about "Joe the Plumber" last week political circles, he was inclined to chat about "Joe the Walker".

"No, I'll call them Josephine Walkers. Because sixty-percent of the marchers today are women. They have such a generosity of spirit. They're compassionate and decidedly earnest, too. And, we thank them."

Also, Schneider applauded the sponsors who gave generously this year, in spite of the dismal economic climate.

"So, go out to "Bed Breakfast and Beyond" (Mervyn's outlet) and show your support to them, as well."

Once again, the Hilton Family played host to the high-profile event.

Paris was conspicuously absent, however.

One lucky fundraiser should be thanking her, though.

All "walkers" were entered into a draw eligible to win a three-day expense-paid stay at any Hilton location in the world!

Generous, eh?

At the top of the ceremony, a handful of Hilton employees led a vigorous warm-up to get the walkers limbered up for their 10-mile stroll.

Other sponsors included the Katzenberg's, Disney, Bank of America, Starbucks, Macy's, Time Warner Cable, and The Abbey.

Cast members from the production of "Kiss of the Spider Woman" wowed the crowd with a spirited performance of one of the popular songs from the hit stage show.

Later, the talented kids dashed out once again to display T-shirts and caps top fundraisers would win.

There must be a prerequisite that male cast members sport chiseled abs.

All the actors took everyone's breath when they revealed their hot bods ; not surprisingly, there was a lot of hooting and hollering and stamping of feet amid a raucous roar of approval in the aftermath.

The "Girls Next Door" (Playmates cast) got a big round of applause, as did Michael Molloney from Extreme Makeover.

There were a few impromptu funny moments, too.

Rachel was about to introduce the Mayor of West Hollywood when she reached the bottom of the scripted material with no name in sight!

One of those - crawl-under-the carpet moments - fer sure!

But she was quick to quip why she didn't know his name off-hand.

"I'm a Valley girl," she shrugged.

Don't feel badly, Rachel.

The Mayors in West Hollywood rotate every couple of years.

Frankly, I thought John Duran was still in the top dog's office!

Craig Thompson - living with A.I.D.S. for twenty-five years - expressed his anger about key issues when he stood up to address the enthusiastic crowd.

"We're one of the wealthiest nations in the world, yet we allow this disease to kill our people."

He asserted there was still a lot of stigma attached to HIV and A.I.D.S.

"We're still in a bad place."

This year's theme for the walk was an inspiring one.

"The journey to change a million lives starts with one step."

General Hospital was quick on the uptake years ago in that regard.

Jason Thompson and Kimberly McCullough were on hand to discuss a storyline that was developed around Kimberly's character on the popular daytime soap.

She compassionately noted:

"It's a story about a woman living with HIV and not dying from it."

Kimberly thanked the fans for reaching out and pledging their generous support for the cause.

General Hospital raised $73,000.00 for the cause this year alone!

As to the walkers, the turn-out was high-energy and festive.

Smiling - outgoing teens - handed out free granola bars, fresh fruit, and Tiger Gatorade to all in attendance.

Many of the high-spirited "walkers" wore shirts that proudly blared out the name of their "fundraising" teams.

Volunteers wore eye-catching tee-shirts with Keith Harin designs on their face.

Harin, if you recall, was a well-known innovative artist with a distinctive artistic style, who died of A.I.D.S. several years ago.

A memorial was installed at Grace Cathedral (San Francisco) shortly after his death.

The "InterFaith" chapel opened its doors for the first time on December 1st, 1995, after the bell tolled at Grace in Honor of "World AIDS Day".

The Chapel is essentially a memorial for those who died from AIDS.

The sacred altar is a place of meditation and healing and remembrance for caregivers and those who are still fighting the disease.

Throughout the ages, stories of each community have been told through their house of worship by virtue of artifacts, stained Glass and sermons.

San Francisco's chapter in the "AIDS" epidemic is recalled through the auspices of the Interfaith Chapel.

The Chapel is a holy place where many go to pay their respects.

But, in the final analysis, Interfaith Chapel underscores that the San Francisco community is one that is compassionate, embracing, and concerned.

The altar was made possible due to the persistent fundraising efforts of community members, local celebrities, and politicians alike.

Inside, there is a stunning altarpiece:

"The Triptych of the Life of Christ"

Mr. Haren - who was commissioned to craft the piece - started off spontaneously with a simple mound of fresh clay.

Then, the talented visionary facilitated a bronze and white gold patina for the original castings.

The center panel depicts the Christ child, cradled by a number of arms below a radiant heart.

Also, there is a healing shower of tears etched below an image of Christ which rests on a cross above.

On the right panel - figures ascend to heaven - as an angel falls on the left.

The Interfaith Chapel is a sacred place where generosity of spirit prevails.

Critics hail the Harin piece as a masterful work that is not only accessible but one that speaks to many people.

In addition, there is a handmade "Book of Remembrance" that is preserved under glass. Within its precious pages, the names of people who have died of AIDS - along with the dates of their birth and death - are inscribed.

The book serves as a testament to the loss shared by the community.

If you're ever up on Nob Hill, don't miss the opportunity to utter a prayer before the sacred memorial.

By the way, I spied a number of garbage receptacles sprinkled about the grounds, with the WET lubricant logo on their face.

That was a subtle, but important touch, which reminds us of one thing.

Play Safe!

Today, I was impressed with the fact quite a few young people showed up to walk, rustle up funds, and raise the consciousness about A.I.D.S. awareness.

Looks like the younger generation have taken up the torch.

Thankfully.

A.I.D.S. is not a gay disease and it does not discriminate.

It's imperative that everyone take up the cause if we are to lick this evil killer.
