John Edwards...scandal. LA TIMES writer claims Rielle Hunter a plotting wacko!

Rielle scans room for rich and famous men...

The tale gets curiouser.

According to a writer who crossed paths with Rielle Hunter - the woman is a bit of a wacko - who plotted feverishly to land herself a "rich powerful man".

Of course - Ms. Hunter is the femme fatale at the center of the John Edwards' scorcher - which has titillated the Nation all week.

In an article in the LA Times today, Sarah Miller reports that in October (2001), she rented a room in a trendy Benedict Canyon home owned by a good friend.

As the report unfolds, there are couple of amusing asides about Harrison Ford - and conjectures that his virile hands crafted some of the woodwork in the house - but that ends up being mindless fodder in the grand scheme of things as Miller moves along.

Allegedly, when Miller relinquished the cozy nest - the now-infamous Rielle Hunter not only moved into her old digs - but became somewhat obsessed with the fact she was firmly ensconced in a lair once inhabited by a "famous writer".

For example, when Ms. Miller returned to the canyon home for a party one night, Reille bounced out-of-the-blue - called her "sweetie" - and lamented,

"It's soooo amazing to me that I am living in your room!"

Understandably, Miller was taken aback.

Why pray tell?

Because, Miller was one of the rarefied breed - a published writer - after all.

"You wrote that article that was published in an actual book in the stores (!) in the room I sleep in. In the bed I sleep in," she gushed incredulously.

Then, in response to Miller's blank look, she ironically exclaimed,

"Didn't you write - 'The Bitch in the House?'"

And, if the revelations weren't bizarre enough, she asserted bold-faced,

"I can feel your energy in there!"

Miller laughingly conjectured that since she was long gone, surely her energy had decamped, as well.

But, Hunter was not convinced.

"You have really strong energy. And I can feel it in there. And it's telling me what I want to be."

Quick on the uptake, Miller asked, "What is that?"

"I am going to be famous," Rielle said. "Rich and famous. I am going to meet a rich, powerful man."

And, she planned to do it the new-fangled way. I mean, forget about courting and petting in dingy movie houses in a sleazy part of town.

"I'm going to manifest it."

Yup, the lady is a space cadet, alright.

Now we know why she refuses to take a paternity test.

The DNA results will probably reveal her child is an alien from outer space!

Got my eye on 'ya, babe!

National Enquirer...Tabloids check facts. DiCaprio & Stone incident proved it to me!

Since the fifties, whenever the names of Tabloid newspapers pop up in a conversation, they conjure up wild images of tales about babies born with three heads, nine-legged aliens that have landed from outer space, whatever!

In recent years - the fodder has tended to be a little tamer - with a big thrust on sex scandals, drug abuse, and corruption in high places.

Like me, you probably expect that when you come across a photo alleging two Hollywood Stars are dating, that the two individuals have never even met; instead, were thrust together in a scandalous clinch by virtue of the skillful hand of a photoshop artist.

Nonetheless - many shoppers at the local supermarket are inclined to give the weeklies a surrepticious glance - before they head out the door with their groceries.

Alhough titillated, many are too embarrassed to be caught dead actually purchasing a dog-eared copy.

For the most part - many Americans are under the distinct impression that - The National Enquirer, The Examiner, and The Star - print up juicy tidbits of salicious gossip without even verifying the facts.

Well, I can attest to the fact that such an allegation would not be true.

A few years ago - I answered an ad in the local newspaper - that was canvassing for talented writers for a "popular" weekly magazine.

When I scheduled the interview, though, I was surprised when I found myself face-to-face with the Editor-in-Chief for one of the top sleaze-bag tabloid newsies in the country.

As one of my favorite characters on "In Living Color" would say,

"I'm not one to gossip, but - "

Although I'm not the type of individual to sort-through dirty laundry, or hang outside sleazy Motels in search of incriminating evidence, I thought - what the heck - I'll give it a shot.

There was one hitch, though.

The Editor requested that I come up with ten story "ideas" before they would sign me on as a regular feature writer.

So, I trundled off in search of a handful of leads from friends and business associates in the industry. God, it was like trying to pull teeth!

One day, I crossed paths with an old friend, and mentioned my dilemma.

"If you hear anything, give me a call."

As it turned out, my gal pal was dating a bartender at a trendy watering hole in Santa Monica. And - her lover noted in passing - that heart-throb Leonardo DiCaprio and Director Oliver Stone were spied huddling in the back room one night snorting cocaine!

When I called up the editor to pass on the tidbit, he demanded the name of the bartender and the exact location of the nightclub.

I put out a call to my friend with a request for the specifics.

At this point, she panicked. Her friend (who happened to be a woman) was antsy about stepping forward. After all, she was a Christian. Also, she was worried about losing her job.

"Well, see if you can get her to change her mind," I urged. "The newspaper will pay well for the tip."

Meanwhile, unbeknownst to me, the tabloid proceeded to contact the Bar behind my back in a scurrilous effort to secure the facts on their own.

Talk about a knife in the back!

Because I let it slip the bartender was a woman - and there was only one female barkeep employed at the establishment - they were able to quickly zero in on her identity.

Then, staff writers proceeded to pester her at work and later at home!

The poor gal freaked out.

Bottom line?

The newspaper wouldn't print the item on DiCaprio and Stone since none of the eyewitnesses were willing to step forward and confirm the facts.

I was surprised as he**.

But, the whole bizarre scenario was reassuring, too.

Until then, I was under the distinct impression the tabloids printed any old piece of gossip unchecked.

Not true!

In light of this, I expect you'll linger a little longer in front of those screaming headlines at the check-out counter, eh?

John Edwards...mainstream press criticized for ignoring affair!

I had a dream I'd get away with it...

Shortly after the shocking news about the John Edwards' scandal hit the fan - critics started pointing fingers at the mainstream media - accusing 'em of looking the other way.

In spite of the fact "The National Enquirer" managed to dredge up a few juicy kernels of evidence to merit a story (which they published many months ago) the big guns at the major dailies allege they struggled to drum up leads but came away empty-handed.

Curious, when you consider the John McCain fiasco.

If you recall - without much fodder to go on - a major daily accused McCain of being involved in a love tryst a few months ago. Later, the rumor turned out to be false.

Years ago - in spite of the fact reporters were well aware of President John Kennedy's womanizing - the media was inclined to play along.

In fact - when screen siren Marilyn Monroe appeared on stage and sang "Happy Birthday" to the President - there was a lot of winking back and forth.

Yeah, everyone knew the score.

But, that was a different era. As long as the President fulfilled his duties to the Nation, who cared?

Of course, today the media is more vicious. In fact, anything goes.

So, the issue is a mystery.

According to Sam Feist - CNN's political director - there just wasn't enough evidence available to give the "green light".

"In a story like this, these are significant allegations. I think it's entirely appropriate to wait...to wait to report a story until they have information that they're comfortable with reporting."

True.

But, the whole scenario makes a sensible person wonder a bit.

How is it that an underdog like the "National Enquirer" (a "Tabloid Trash" news outlet) appears to have a significant edge over the all-powerful competition in the news-gathering arena?

Maybe the dailies need to "hire on" some down 'n dirty investigative reporter-types who are willing to roll up their sleeves and get the job done come he** or high water.

After all - the scandal is not only an embarrassment to Mr. Edwards and his family - but to the media as well.

The Democratic hopeful managed to hoodwink the entire legitimate press.

We've all heard how slick politicians are.

In retrospect, it's evident now. John Edwards was mighty good!

Ben Okri once said,

"The magician and the politician have much in common: they both have to draw our attention away from what they are really doing."

John Edwards...Oh, my gosh! Had an afffair. More like Kennedy than I thought!

John primps for love tryst...

There must be something about Politics that revs up the old libido.

But - somehow - everyone thought that Edwards was a different kind of stud - um - breed of horse (in that regard, anyway).

To many, he gave the impression of being a loving husband and family man.

Golly - when I compared him to a charismatic John Kennedy - I was closer to the target than I ever imagined.

After all, John Kennedy was such a womanizer.

As George would say in - "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf" - what archery!

After all, it's just been reported that John Edwards had a clandestine "affair".

Apparently - when the handsome Presidential Candidate was first confronted with the allegations - he dismissed the so-called gossip as "Tabloid Trash".

On the heels of the startling revelations now, many are irked by the fact he gave the stalwart impression that he was a forthright husband standing by his cancer-stricken wife.

Golly, there have been allegations that he fathered a child, too.

But, he's off the hook on that one.

A former campaign staff member stepped forward and acknowledged he is the father.

Sounds like this young lady was passed around, doesn't it?

The seedy goings-on along the campaign trail sure titillate!

Edwards confessed that he disclosed the tawdry details to his wife and family long ago. Then, shame-faced, he revealed he hoped the knowledge of the love tryst would never see the light of day.

An ABC News feature intends to report this evening that Edwards lied repeatedly about the affair with 42-year-old Rielle Hunter. And, that he has admitted that Tabloid reports that he secretly met with Hunter at the Beverly Hills Hilton, were actually true.

"In 2006, I made a serious error in judgment and conducted myself in a way that was disloyal to my family and to my core beliefs. I recognized my mistake, and I told my wife that I had a liaison with another woman, and I asked for her forgiveness. Although I was honest in every painful detail with my family, I did not tell the public."

He added that he was ashamed of his conduct and the choices he made with regard to his supportive family.

"I took responsibility for my actions back then. I take full responsibility now, publicly."

But, he has not stepped forward, without a lot of soul-searching.

"In the course of several campaigns, I started to believe that I was special and became increasingly egocentric and narcissistic. If you want to beat me up feel free. You cannot beat me up more than I have already beaten up myself. I have been stripped bare and will now work with everything I have to help my family and others who need my help.

David Bonior - who managed Edwards' bid for the presidency - acknowledged to the press he was not only disappointed, but angry.

"Thousands of friends of the senator's and his supporters have put their faith and confidence in him, and he's let them down," said Bonior.

"They've been betrayed by his action."

Asked whether the affair would damage Edwards' future aspirations in public service, Bonior astutely noted for the record,

"You can't lie in politics and expect to have people's confidence."

The whole fiasco makes him look like such a hypocrite, too.

After all, when Edwards was a Senator, he made some pretty disparaging remarks about President Clinton and his affair with Monica Lewinsky.

"I think this president has shown a remarkable disrespect for his office, for the moral dimensions of leadership, for his friends, for his wife, for his precious daughter. It is breathtaking to me the level to which that disrespect has risen."

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black!

There are also hints of some other improprieties, too.

Edwards' political action committee allegedly paid $100,000 (in a four-month span) to a firm run by Hunter to direct Web videos showing Edwards in candid moments.

But things get curiouser.

The payments to - "One America Committee to Midline Groove Productions LLC" - started just five days after Hunter incorporated the firm in Delaware.

The initial six-figure payment was followed with two smaller payments totaling $14,461 on the first day of April in 2007.

Sounds like pay for play, doesn't it?

Well, as I always said,

A stiff di** has no conscience!

Bill Clinton...pain in butt?

They're right...she does have a big a**.

The media has been trying to pin down Obama on potential running mates for the upcoming election.

But, he's been a bit coy with the press. And, determined not to overstep himself in these precarious political times.

In spite of the fact it's obvious someone in the wings will have to reach out with a hook, and yank Mrs. Clinton off the world stage kickin' and screamin' at the appropriate nod, Obama has been quite a gentleman about it - biding his time patiently.

Is the nomination in the bag yet?

Not if Hillary would have her druthers.

On the subject of choosing an individual for the Vice Presidential ticket, one reporter pointedly asked Obama,

"Will you be willing to consider everyone a possible running mate, even if his or her spouse is a pain in the butt?"

A veiled reference to slick Willy?

After a roar from the crowd, and a moment to collect his thoughts, Barack was inclined to note for the record that one of his heroes - Abraham Lincoln - often filled positions with rivals, so why not?

That old familiar saying comes to mind,

"Keep your friends near, but your enemies closer."

If that's the route he goes, the man must be a masochist.

If you ask me, jousting with Hillary in the White House would amount to utter he**.

Personally, I wouldn't tempt fate by sipping any beverage or munching on any delectable goody she brought to the Oval Office around afternoon tea, either.

Barack, beware of Greeks who bear gifts...

John Edwards...for Vice President of U.S.?

I hadn't heard from presidential hopeful - JOHN EDWARDS - since he bowed out of the race, so when a lone e-mail popped up in my inbox, I clicked it open to take a gander at what he was up to.

Of course - the big news splashed over all the newspapers around the Nation this morning - was John's announcement that he's backing Barack Obama in his quest for President. And, confirmation that Barack signed on to Edwards' anti-poverty initiative which Edwards launched yesterday with the goal of reducing poverty in the United States by half within the next ten years.

But, I didn't notice any reports on John's - "College for Everyone" - project; a scholarship pilot project started up by he and Elizabeth a few years ago in Greene County, North Carolina - the subject matter of his communication to me.

As Edwards notes in his e-mail,

"The (College for Everyone) program is based on a simple promise to students: make good grades, work at least 10 hours a week, and stay out of trouble - and the program will help pay for your first year of college."

Since the project was first launched in 2005, the percentage of Greene County high school graduates attending college has increased from fifty-four percent to seventy-four percent, according to the Edwards' team.

Current up-to-date records also reflect that one hundred and sixty-five high school seniors in Greene County are set to graduate in May and that ninety-four percent have been accepted into N.C. colleges and universities.

For John and Elizabeth, the previous numbers were heartbreaking.

"Every parent wants to give their child the opportunity that comes with a college education. But for too many American families, the dream of a college degree was just that - a dream."

John and Elizabeth are now asking for financial support from Americans around the country to help make the dream of a college education a reality for some hard-working students in rural Greene County, for starters.

Donors may make tax-deductible donations of - $10, $25, or $50 - to bring the Edwards' project one step closer to a realistic goal of a high-quality "College Education for everyone".

"By contributing now," notes Edwards, "You will help fulfill the college dreams of deserving students in Greene County and show the world that if we work together on big and important issues, change is possible."

On the heels of all this news overnight, it strikes me that it is wholly possible that John Edwards may make an excellent running mate for Barack Obama in a bid for Vice President of the United States.

Don't 'ya think?

Democrats...no country for white men!

What does the American voter want, pray tell?

There was a funny cartoon in the Los Angeles Times today.

Two middle-aged white men are sitting in a local bar having a couple of brewskies.

As they watch the presidential news footage in the lounge and view reports of Hillary and Barack leading in the Democratic polls, one turns to the other and quips, "Which are you feeling more like, a black man or a woman???"

To the Democrats, this is no country for a white man!

John Edwards...bows out of campaign race; heartfelt e-mail explains!

I was saddened to hear that John Edwards chose to end his campaign since I thought in my heart he was best man for the job!

Dear Julian,

You have stood with Elizabeth and me throughout this campaign. Your support has sustained us as we have traveled across this country.

Earlier today, I suspended my campaign for the Democratic nomination for the presidency. I made this announcement from where our journey began just over 12 months ago: New Orleans.

I began my presidential campaign in New Orleans to remind the country that all of us - as citizens and as a government - have a moral responsibility to each other, and what we do together matters.

Now, it's time for me to step aside so that history can blaze its path. We do not know who will take the final steps to the White House - but what we do know is that our Democratic Party will make history.

And, along the way, all of you who have been involved in this campaign and this movement for change and this cause, I am asking you to continue speaking out for those who have no voice, just as Elizabeth and I will continue to do.

We need you.

Do not turn away from the great struggles before us. Do not give up on the causes that we have fought for. Do not walk away from what's possible, because it's time for all of us - all of us together - to make the two Americas one.

We need you.

I hope you will take a few moments to listen to the video clip of my speech in New Orleans earlier this afternoon or to read it below.

In the meantime, Elizabeth and my family join me in thanking all of you for your support and for working so hard on my behalf. We are truly blessed to have such friends.

Thank you.

Democrats...polarization of races, South Carolina!

The White guys love me, what can I say?

Bill Moyer joked on his talk show the other night that pundits were accusing Bill Clinton of putting a spotlight on the fact that Barack Obama is a black candidate...

"Are they saying that no one noticed before that Obama is Black? Come on," he lamented, somewhat flabberghasted.

Well, no matter how you look at it, the word appears to be out.

If African Americans were unaware of the fact before, they sure as heck know now.

For instance, yesterday - at last count in the South Carolina polls - 81% of the Black population sprung into action and voted for Obama.

In another sector of the community there, John Edwards allegedly garnered 47% of the white male vote.

In view of the trend, the analysts have declared there is an obvious polarization of the races, underway in the Presidential Race.

Come "Big Tuesday", we'll see the phenomenon in full swing.

Any predictions?

In view of the fact a large number of females (black and white) also voted for Obama in SC, it's a toss up, in my estimation!

See you at the polls!

Turn in the road...tide changes for Obama!

Democrats...2 1/2 candidates, according to Today Show pundit!

When Matt Lauer asked a pundit - Tim Russert - appearing on the Today show as a guest, how the field was shaping up for both the Republicans and the Democrats after underdog Mitt Romney's big "Win Tuesday", he opined,

"The Republicans have about 3 or 4 potential candidates. And, the Democrats have about 2 1/2 or 3."

A half? - Lauer quizzically responded...

So, who was the pint-sized candidate Russert was referring to, when he "misspoke"?

John Edwards losing muscle?

Iowa Caucus...last impressions, Presidential Candidates 08!

Mitt Romney...Handsome is as Handsome does!

Well, last night the campaign trucks all pulled into Iowa, and all candidates stood up before the locals - and the media - to make their last bids for the Presidency.

Except, for one!

The Huckabee hopeful made a classic boo-boo on two counts. Instead of groveling with candidates in the "heartland", he chose to elevate himself above the others, by flying to Burbank, California, to appear on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

The poor man failed to check his facts, and subsequently, ended up with egg on his face. You see, in order to make the fateful appearance, he was forced to cross a picket line - after all, the writer's strike is still grinding on.

Huckabee tried to beg off with the flimsy excuse he hadn't been properly informed of the specifics; nonetheless, few gave him any wiggle room...today many were shaking their heads and calling the republican candidate a "scab".

On a second count, he erred too.

His reason for appearing on the Tonight show? According to Huckabee, a friendly chat with Leno was a golden opportunity to reach out to thousands of Americans across the great Nation, instead of a paltry handful of voters in Iowa proper.

Big mistake!

If Mr. Huckabee doesn't know the value of a warm handshake - or the potential of one-on-one personal contact with the voter - then he'd be wise to pack it in...the man is out of his depth, surely!

But, the Obama handlers made mistakes, too. At one point, the campaigners propped the political-savvy candidate up on a makeshift "soap box" - which stressed one point - he may be short on something!

Symbolically, the image gave the impression Obama is trying to play with the big boys. We'll know tomorrow, if he can.

Notwithstanding the foregoing, Obama's speech lacked oompf, too.

At times, the well-educated Senator stumbled over words - grasped for the appropriate turn of phrase - so, insightful viewers were inclined to whisper on the sidelines - "Was he smoking doobies in the green room?"

If it wasn't obvious before - it sure is now - Mr. Obama may find it difficult to walk in Martin Luther Kings' shoes. In spite of fact the Obama team has hinted that their candidate is capable of picking up where the honored leader left off - at this point - it appears doubtful. His take on the "I had a Dream" speech, fell flat.

In sum, Obama appeared tired and weak, and in need of a good shot in the arm.

Mitt Romney's moment in the sun was kind-of-like a fireside chat. Except, it failed to meet it's potential impact. Maybe someone should have passed on a memo to props to include a cracklin' fire in the background as he made his pitch on American values. The setting was spare, after all.

Mitt is an honest straightforward man, but - handsome is as handsome does, right?

Hillary's speech was also low-key...about as soft in focus as those lenses which recently shot footage of her two-minute promo this past week, designed to touch the undecided voter. Instead of attacking her opponents last night, she took pot shots at Bush instead. Ho Hum.

Hillary getting image tips from Madonna?

She appeared for all-the-world, like she was at a coffee klatch...about to hand out her latest recipe, give sewing tips, or instructions on joga.

In sum, John Edwards stole the thunder last night. After all, his speech was forceful and dynamic - eloquent at times - and oftentimes reminded the voters of a young JFK or Robert Kennedy.

The lasting impression?

John Edwards is definitely Presidential material.

In essence, he left others in the dust, in my estimation

Presidential Candidates...guilty pleasures revealed, eve before Iowa Caucus!

Hillary may have to join the Boys Club

Well, I suppose before a candidate gets firmly ensconced in the White House, it wouldn't be a bad idea to get familiar with his or her peccadilloes, if any.

In a sort-of ice breaker, the Presidential Candidates were asked on the eve before the Iowa Caucus, what their guilty pleasures were.

If you recall, for JFK, it was a - um - statuesque blond, smuggled into the White House in a trunk of a car.

Nixon? Well, allegedly, he salivated over cold hard cash in hand.

Ronnie Reagan loved jelly beans.

So, when Mitt Romney noted his sweet tooth for M & M candies - and a short list of other tasty finger treats - it was obvious - the man has Presidential traits.

As to Mrs. Clinton? Well, slick Willy's better half has learned quite a bit in recent weeks, judging by the way she answered.

When asked what her guilty pleasure was, I half expected her to quip in her own inimitable style - "Diamonds or Pearls, either". Instead, she quickly responded with her answer, "Chocolate". And, when queried further about the specific kind, she was fast on the uptake once again, "Dark Chocolate".

Yes, wily Hilly wasn't going to fall into that trap again - get caught sitting on the fence, trying to garner approval in every quarter - and hence - run the risk of coming across as the clever, but wishy-washy gal, we'd all come to love and chastise.

You rose to the occasion well, Mrs. Bill.

For Rudy, the indulgence amounted to a toss up between an expensive cigar or chocolate. Either one would suffice, in a pinch.

Another candidate also indicated his yearnings for a big fat cigar, usually one of questionable origins. I haven't given his name 'cause I'd hate to see him lose the election bid over a Cuban missile crisis, of sorts!

Surprisingly, Barack Obama was not inclined to put things in his mouth when it came to guilty pleasures...no sir, he confidently noted for the record that his addiction was to - Sports Centre. So, Dudes, if you're pining for a PREZ you can watch a game with, and chortle alongside of with a keg of beer to dip into, Obama is your man!

Judging by his trim physique, it was evident to me from the get-go that Presidential Candidate John Edwards was not into fattening snacks...he confirmed the fact, when he noted that he was inclined to indulge a little, by sleeping in!

There's a man after my own heart. There's nothin' finer (except for Carolina) than a late snooze, in a luxury hotel, with excellent room service.

Yeah, I'm inclined to just lay back on a pile of plush pillows, peruse the morning dailies, and channel surf for a couple of hours, before I face the day.

After tonight, John Edwards may be doing the same, who knows?

Barack Obama...wins Iowa caucus, if!

Political pundits are betting that if there is a large turn-out of independent cross-over voters and Republican turncoats at the Iowa caucus this week, that Barack Obama will surge ahead to win the coveted spot sought by all the candidates.

Likewise, if Hillary manages to manipulate a large show of Democrats in strong numbers, she may garner a win by about two percent of all available votes.

Meanwhile, competing candidates continue to give pep talks up 'til the final hour, with the specific aim of snatching up a fistful of valuable, undecided ballots.

Huckabee's been waxing passionately about family values, for instance.

John Edwards, on the other hand, continues to scorn Corporate greed - in spite of the fact critics argue that Iowans' care less about the issue - than voters in other key states around the Nation.

Well, I plan to snap up a bunch of snacks, and quench-thirsting sodas, then - hanker down for the big count in front of the TV - mid-week.

Once the carcasses are accounted for, the truth shall be known.

May the best man - or woman - win, eh?

John Edwards...meets funding requirements!

Well, looks like Governor Schwarzenegger is not the only politician capable of flexing some muscle...

In recent weeks, I penned posts, noting that John Edwards was seeking to raise $500,000.00 by December 1st (2007) so that his campaign would be entitled to matching funds from the Government.

John Edwards’ supporters may be glad to hear the good news!

Over the week-end, campaign Manager - Joe Trippi - send me an e-mail communication noting that the sum of $751,000.00 was raised prior to the deadline.

So, it is onward and upward for Edwards.

Remember, the Democrats will need a strong candidate to stand up against John Paul in the upcoming Presidential Race.

So, do your part today to put the best candidate in the White House.

John Edwards...closes in on $$$ goal.

A couple of weeks ago, I published a post, noting that John Edwards and his campaign team were seeking additional donations to meet a goal of $500,000.00 for their coffers.

In the event the sum is reached in the new few days, contributions will be matched through public-financing.

Joe Trippi, Senior Adviser for the campaign, reports that as of late last night, about $390,000.00 has been collected.

Now, at this crucial juncture, Edwards has a few days to rustle up the remaining $110,000.00.

Trippi notes,

We're counting down to the most important caucuses and primaries in nearly two decades. We need your support today so John's message can reach every voter in these key early states. We have direct mail and broadcast spots to get out, staff and volunteers who are going block-by-block—and your contribution helps us with this critical final push!

Another $110,000 will help us reach our goal of raising $500,000 online in just two weeks. Thousands of you have already contributed — but John needs you — and your friends — to help us again.

Help us raise $500,000 online — and know that can be doubled with matching funds, providing us with an additional $1 million to put into the early states with just 38 days before the first caucuses.

So, hit the piggy banks, kids!

John Edwards...novel ways to raise cash!

Well, looks like the Presidential Candidates are pulling out all stops - especially when it comes to raising cash for their campaigns.

Hillary used her Birthday to fill the coffers, so why not Thanksgiving, too?

This past week, I received a request from "Bobbie", John Edwards' mother, to purchase a handful of Thanksgiving Recipes to help raise much-needed dough for little Johnny.

Here's what she had to say,

Dear Julian,
This is John's mom, Bobbie. I just wanted to send a quick note from our family to yours to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving!
John's dad and I have been out on the campaign trail with him this past week, listening to him talk about change. I couldn't agree more that we need big change in America today. But at Thanksgiving, it's nice to take some time to think about all that we have to be thankful for - and to enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal.
And, this Thanksgiving, Elizabeth and I, along with David Bonior and his wife Judy, and Joe Trippi and his wife Kathy, from John's campaign team, want to share our favorite Thanksgiving recipes with you.

John Edwards...showing muscle!

Well, John Edwards appears to be flexing some muscle these days...in the coffers anyway.

This is what he reported in an e-mail today,

Dear Julian,
Last month, I challenged you to help us raise $500,000 during October. Thousands of you responded and, by October 31, your support helped us meet—and exceed—that goal.

But, in spite of this, there is a new pitch for money today...

"Now, I'm asking you to help us raise $500,000 in just two weeks."

"If we hit that target, this $500,000 will be doubled by matching funds through public financing. That would mean you can help us raise $1 million for the campaign just four weeks before the early caucuses and primaries—money that puts boots on the ground and gets our message out in these critical key states, winning over real voters."

What say, gang!

Should we cough up?

Clinton, Edwards, Obama...take note, brain scans signal swing-voter trends!

While the male presidential candidates - Barack Obama and John Edwards - were posing for GQ and Vogue to spruce up their image, Hillary Clinton's team was busy supplying questions for supporters to pose to Hillary Clinton on the campaign trail to boost hers!

When Hillary Clinton stopped at a bio-diesel plant in Newton, Iowa, to witness alternative fuels in the making, she fielded questions from supporters who had gathered to greet her.

Surprisingly, when a young woman asked Hillary how her plan would combat climate change, the ever-optimistic candidate was ready with a pat answer.

"You should be worried. You know, I find as I travel around Iowa, that it's usually young people that ask me about global warming."

Of course, Hillary got egg on her face when it was revealed that her handlers had specifically selected the question for a faker to raise to bolster her image!

To be fair, a Clinton campaign spokesman openly admitted to planting the question, but underscored to reporters that Hillary did not know which questioners she was calling on during the event.

I was inclined to believe her camp, but as I was finishing up the draft for this post, I noticed a news article in the morning Times which reported that there was another similar incident a few months ago, as well.

On that occasion, the supporter informed Clinton's staffers that he was uneasy about the idea, so he was abandoned as a potential helper in the scheme to make Hillary look good to voters.

Of course, it's incidents like this which have caused some Americans to be so mistrustful of Mrs. Clinton.

You know what they say about crying "wolf", too!

Too often, Hillary has expected the benefit of the doubt - and right about now - she's skating on thin ice.

If image is an all-important consideration - especially as the Presidential Race moves into the next stretch - all candidates would be wise to pay attention to a recent study that was carried out with "swing voters".

According to the New York Times, a group of researchers used functional magnetic imaging, to watch the brains of a group of swing voters as they responded to questions about the candidates - John Edwards, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama - to name a few.

The registered voters - twenty in number (ten men & ten women) stated at the offset they were open to choosing a candidate from either party.

The enthusiastic group of guinea pigs were then given a list of ten questions, focusing on their political preferences; later, their brain activity was studied in a high-tech gizmo to log the results.

After the first session, the participants answered a second questionnaire.

During the course of the research, the swing voters viewed political pictures through a scanner with special goggles.

During the first part of the study, subjects were shown a series of photos of candidates in random order; video excerpts from speeches followed.

In the next stage, a second set of photos were scrutinized thoroughly.

On the before and after questionnaires, subjects were asked to rate the candidates on a scale of 0-10, facilitating a process frequently used in polling.

The swing voters in the study marked their papers accordingly; the responses were either - "very unfavorable" to "very unfavorable".

The results were intriguing.

When subjects were shown the words Democrat, Republican, and Independent, they exhibited high levels of anxiety in the part of the brain called the amygdala.

Also, the two areas in the brain associated with anxiety and disgust - the amygdala and the insula - were especially active when men viewed the word "Republican".

Curiously, the three labels denoting each party, also elicited some activity in the brain area associated with reward - the ventral striatum - as well as other regions related to desire and feeling connected.

However, there was one exception. Men showed little response, positive or negative, when viewing the term "Independent".

Apparently, voters who rated Mrs. Clinton unfavorably on their questionnaire, were not entirely comfortable with their assessment. When viewing images of her, these voters exhibited significant activity in the anterior cingulate cortex - an emotional center of the brain that is aroused when a person feels compelled to act in two different ways but must choose one.

Researchers concluded that the subjects were battling unacknowledged impulses to like Mrs. Clinton.

Interesting!

In contrast, subjects who rated her more favorably, showed very little activity in the brain area when they viewed photographic images of the Senator.

The researchers theorized the results indicated Mrs. Clinton may be able to gather support from swing voters who oppose her if she softens their negative responses to her.

However, in spite of the foregoing, she may be vulnerable to attacks that seek to reinforce negative associations.

So, listen up, Hillary!

According to the team, John Edwards has promise, but suffers a difficult problem to overcome.

When looking at his picture, subjects who had rated him low on the thermometer scale showed activity in the insula, an area associated with disgust and other negative feelings. This suggested to the researchers that swing voters' negative emotions toward Mr. Edwards could be quite powerful.

On the other hand, there is good news for Mr. Edwards...the swing voters who did not give him low ratings, when looking at still photos of him, showed significant activation in areas of the brain containing mirror neurons - cells that are activated when people feel empathy.

The activity of the subjects infers voters feel connected to the man.

In the final analysis, John Edwards has a strong effect on swing voters - those that do like him and those that don't.

Photos of Barack Obama failed to indicate a notable lack of any powerful reactions, positive or negative.

He was rated relatively high on the pre-scan questionnaire, yet both men and women exhibited less brain activity while viewing the pre-video set of still pictures of Mr. Obama than they did while looking at any of the other candidates.

Among the male subjects, the video of Mr. Obama provoked increased activity in some regions of the brain associated with positive feelings, but in women it did not elicit change.

The study concluded that Mr. Obama has failed to register an impression on some swing voters. While his speech resonated with men in the study, it failed to engage the women.

Since the scans were taken, researchers claim that Mr. Obama has changed his tone, and are enthused about any changes that may be reflected in the next round of studies.
